“Toppled from his seat of power, Vauthry, the final Lightwarden, has fled to Mt. Gulg, whose fiery summit now hangs in the firmament, beyond his enemies' reach. However, with the aid of the myriad peoples of Norvrandt, you succeed in building a gigantic Talos that rises to take the volcano in its grasp. Using the golem's rocky body as a bridge, you begin the arduous ascent to your quarry's newly built paradise, there to put an end to the tyranny of Light.

In the first area, players can pull all five packs of enemies before the first boss. In the last area, players can pull three groups of enemies (which will always receive a damage buff) before reaching a barrier. These "wall-to-wall" pulls are some of the more challenging ones in the game and require good healing/defensive cooldown usage from the party.
Bosses
- Rake: Tankbuster
- Lumen Infinitum: Frontal line AOE attach with no ground marker, move away from boss' face when he starts to cast
- Cyclone Wing: Room-wide AOE
- Typhoon Wing: Don't stand in front of green orbs around boss to avoid triangular AOE attack
- Typoon Wing: Further into the fight he will add aether current-looking AOE puddles as well as his orbs around him - dodge both to avoid damage
- Sacrament of Penance: Room-wide AOE
- Catechism: Tankbuster
- Judgement Day: 2 meteor puddle - 1 person will be enough to soak damage
- Exegesis: The boss rearranges the pattern of faces on itself, and the faces will begin glowing. The boss's 3x3 arrangement maps onto the arena floor. Stand on a square without a face, as the face-containing squares will be hit with an AoE. Note that the pattern of faces is always symmetrical.
- (Shiny Orbs): Occurs same time as Exegesis and spawns large donut AOEs on the ground - avoid both for no damage. For many patterns, the upper corners of the arena are safe.
Consort of Sin: Forgiven Obscenity
Forgiven Obscenity's attacks have different variations depending on whether there are glowing rings surrounding the boss.
- Orison Fortissimo: Raidwide AoE.
- Sacrament Sforzando: Tankbuster.
- Divine Diminuendo: Circle AoE around the boss. Glowing variation: Two more Ring AOEs spawn. To dodge, stay close to the edge of the initial circle AoE.
- Conviction Marcato: Line AoE from the front of the boss. Glowing variation: The boss casts additional line AoEs from the discs surrounding it, forming an X-shaped AoE. To dodge, be on any cardinal except in front of the boss, outside of the boss hitbox. Note: The glowing disc directly behind the boss does not fire a line AOE.
Clones Phase:
- Penance Pianissimo: Tightens the arena into a circle.
- Feather Marionette: Summons 4 copies of itself around the arena.
All 4 clones and the boss will cast another Divine Diminuendo - one of the clones will have glowing rings. Go to this clone and stay close to the edge of its circle AoE.
The position of the clones and boss will then change, and they will cast another Conviction Marcato. Again, one of the clones will have glowing rings and discs. Stay out of line AoEs from the clones and the X-shaped AoE from the glowing clone.
- Solitaire Ring: A ring will spawn on each of the six columns in the arena, marked by lines on the floor. Stand on the column of the last ring to spawn, wait for the other columns to do their line AoEs, then run out of that last column before it does its line AoE.

Urianger: Its form notwithstanding, I believe that is a sin eater.
After second boss
Alisaie: Phew, that was tougher than it looked...
Y'shtola: As the old adage goes.
Alphinaud: There is much we do not know about sin eaters.
Thancred: And there I thought I'd seen them all.
Urianger: By my reckoning, it was an elemental made eater.

Alisaie: Oh, I look forward to shutting him up!
Alphinaud: No amount of splendor will make you king!
Ryne: If you're righteous, why did you run?
Thancred: This place really isn't to my taste.
Y'shtola: A good thing we are here to tear it down.
