Two-handed Thaumaturge's Arm
Two-handed Thaumaturge's Arms are weapons used by 
thaumaturges and 
black mages. They consist of staves.
Until level 50, one-handed weapons are available for thaumaturges and black mages, along with two-handed weapons. Past that, two-handed weapons are the only weapon type available.

Lore
As the rise of organized faith ushered mankind from the bloody chaos of the First Astral Era, so were the secrets of aether manipulation—the secrets of magic—revealed unto the masses. What began as fervent prayer and choral hymns unexpectedly transformed into basic spells when paired with certain religious paraphernalia—crystal-encrusted staves and scepters serving as mediums to focus the caster's aether and make manifest the energies in the tangible forms of fire, ice, or levin. Once the importance of elemental agency was realized, mankind began experimenting with all manner of substances, searching for those which exhibited more aptitude at channeling magicks than others. Nature, as always, was the best provider of such items, the bleached bones of mystic beasts, the gnarled boughs of ancient trees, and the glowing hearts of woodland sprites all proving to increase the chances of successfully casting a spell.
Over the next millennia, mankind’s capacity to control aether burgeoned, and with it did the tools he used to manipulate those energies evolve. Both the Allagans and the Mhachi built entire civilizations on foundations of magic, with varying degrees of success. In their pursuit of ever more destructive incantations, the latter stumbled across a powerful medium they called “magicite.” The elemental energies stored within these fragments of fallen stars proved powerful enough to rend the heavens, raining destruction down on their enemies while forcing open doors to darker realms. And while this folly eventually led to the end of an age, their cumulative knowledge lives on in the brands and cudgels wielded by mages today.
Prominent Designs
Brand
The most widespread of thaumaturges’ arms, most brands consist of a stock carved from wood, bone, or horn affixed with an elementally aspected crystal or gemstone. Their simple, inexpensive design makes the mediums perfect for the training of inexperienced acolytes.
Scepter
From as early as the Second Astral Era have scepters been used by rulers as symbols of their standing. And while their hafts of aetherially charged metal and their heads of ruby and opal have seen them become the preferred weapon of spellcasters across the realm, many a thegn still carries a scepter that their thralls may know their place.
Cudgel
The turbulent Fifth Astral Era saw many practitioners of magic take to the fields of war as battlemages. To provide these important assets with a secondary means to protect themselves should they find their spiritual energies drained, aetherial mediums were reinforced with heavy metal casings and sharpened projections that they might be used to bludgeon an opponent if the need arose.
Staff
Not only does the extended haft of a staff provide the potential for increased elemental potency, but it can serve to keep an opponent at a manageable distance. It can even second as a crutch, should the mental strain suffered from expending one’s will prove overwhelming.
Longpole
Similar to staves, longpoles provide mages with a physical means of fending off would-be attackers, while serving as the aetherial mediums to their spells. One marked difference between the two, however, are the bejeweled effigies attached to the longpoles' heads—elaborate images oft carved to resemble vilekin.
Rod
The use of rods as aetherial mediums is not a practice reserved for the West. Far Eastern Disciples of Magic have also developed similar arms with which they might harness the lands abundant energies. In fact, beyond ornamentation, there are almost no notable differences between a Hingan rod and an Eorzean brand.
Laevateinn
Its name taken from an ancient word for “destruction” or “destructor,” Laevateinn was created by Gerolt Blackthorn at the behest of former Thaumaturges’ Guild guildmaster, Mumuepo the Beholden—the mage desiring an arcane vessel that could withstand the channeling of powerful magicks. The staff left Mumuepo’s hands after his fall from grace some five summers past.
Gambanteinn
If the tales of heretics are to be believed, Gambanteinn was forged in a time when the bonds betwixt man and dragon were unbreakable, and used by an ancient wyrm to teach the secrets of draconian magicks to the people of Ishgard. As to the validity of these claims, only the dragons themselves might provide reasonable confirmation.
Halonic Exorcist's Rod
Long, Ishgardian steel rods such as these were once carried by those priests of the Holy See tasked with exorcising the blood of the Horde from heretic prisoners—a process that ended with a “blessing” of cleansing flame, and most often resulted in the death or extreme disfiguration of the victim.
Elder Staff
According to the Sons of Saint Coinach, staves such as these were administered to each of the thousands of infantry magi who marched with the Allagan Imperial Army. Despite recording heavy losses in most contests, it is widely believed to be the efforts of these spellcrafters that saw the Empire’s borders expand as quickly as they did.
Kujo
Frustrated with his inability to foreshorten the suffering of his lands people at the hand of their cruel ruler, an ascetic monk set off on a journey of enlightenment with naught but his staff, Kujo, and the robes on his back. After a year having journeyed the entire length of the Dairyu Chain, the monk returned to Doma and presented the staff—now primed with the geomantic energies of water and wind—to his lord that he, too, might awaken to his vassals' plight.
Lilith Rod
Legend has that this iron caduceus was torn from the icy fingers of the voidsent queen Lilith after her defeat at the hands of a mage belonging to the Zodiac Braves. It was centuries later that another mage summoned the queen back to the corporeal realm in an attempt to bind the succubus to his will.
Vanargand
By affixing the core of a gemstone golem 'neath the crook of a weathered Fifth Astral Era staff, legendary archmage Shatotto—or more specifically, the memory of Shatotto inhabiting the body of a priestess of the Order of Nald'thal—created this powerful weapon to present as a gift to the black mage who aided her in staving off a cataclysm.
Astrolabe
Designed in the waning years of the Sixth Astral Era, before the resurgence of Sharlayan astrology, the astrolabe was created to provide thaumaturges with a means of monitoring the movements of Hydaelyn and her twin moons, Menphina and the since-fallen Dalamud. As to why this would have been necessary, few can say.
Makibi
A variation on the Othardian “khakkhara,” or “sounding staff,” Makibi were crafted for use in ceremonial geomantic rites honoring the first Doman king, Ganen. Believing their exotic design would catch the eye of her customers and see her profits soar, Eorzean entrepreneur Rowena had hundreds of the staves shipped to her emporium in Idyllshire.
Teiwaz
A Skallic relic dating back to Fifth Astral Era Gyr Abania, the ivory dove twined atop the ancient brand was added per the order of an Ala Mhigan king who deemed the relic too mundane for his tastes. [1]
