Currency

The Currency menu displays information on all currencies in the player's possession.

Common

Gil

Gil is the general-purpose everyday money of Final Fantasy XIV. The Gil cap is  999,999,999 for the player and each retainer or  300,000 for a player on the free trial.

Company Seals

Company Seals are a generic reference to the specific types of seals used to purchase items from your Grand Company.

• Storm Seals from The Maelstrom
• Flame Seals from The Immortal Flames
• Serpent Seals from The Order of the Twin Adder

Ventures

Ventures are used to pay for Retainer Ventures. They can be purchased from Grand Company Quartermasters for 200 Company Seals each, as well as with other currencies. They are also earned as Allied Society Quests rewards or as a random bonus for the completion of normal levequests.

Manderville Gold Saucer Points (MGP)

MGP is acquired from completing mini-games in Gold Saucer. Used to purchase rewards in Gold Saucer.

Battle

Allagan Tomestones

Allagan Tomestones are awarded by completing endgame Dungeons, Trials, and Raids, among other activities. They are exchanged for Endgame Gear.

They rotate regularly, and there are always two kinds of level-cap tomestone: the newest one with a weekly cap (usually 450/week) which is currently Allagan Tomestones of Mnemonics, and the next-oldest one with no cap which is Allagan Tomestones of Mathematics.

Tomestones types from older expansions are converted to Allagan Tomestones of Poetics as a catch-all. See the Allagan Tomestones page for more info.

PvP

Wolf Marks are acquired in PvP. They are used to purchase PvP Gear and other rewards in the Wolves' Den Pier.

Trophy Crystals are acquired in PvP. They are used to purchase Endwalker-era and onwards PvP Gear and other rewards in the Wolves' Den Pier, including the Wolf Collar token.

The Hunt

Allied Seals are acquired from the A Realm Reborn-era The Hunt (also Blue Mage activities) and are used to purchase unique rewards.

Centurio Seals are acquired from the Heavensward-era Clan Hunt and the Stormblood-era Veteran Clan Hunt and are used to purchase unique rewards.

Sack of Nuts are acquired from the Shadowbringers-era Nutsy Clan Hunt, the Endwalker-era Guildship Hunt, and the Dawntrail-era Dawn Hunt and are used to purchase unique rewards.

FATE

Bicolor Gemstone was introduced in Shadowbringers as the currency for the Shared FATE system. They can be used used to purchase a variety of items from Gemstone Traders.

Scrips

Scrips are endgame currency for Crafters and Gatherers. These are the only currencies listed in the "Other" tab in the Currencies window.

They rotate with new expansions, and unlike Allagan Tomestones, Scrips convert forward at a 1:1 ratio. So there is no permanent catch-all type of scrip. See the Scrips page for more info.

Societies

Societal currencies are earned as quest rewards from their corresponding factions.

Miscellaneous

These currencies are not listed in the Currencies window and are usually tied to specific pieces of content.

Achievement Certificates

Achievement Certificates are a form of currency obtained and used at the NPC Jonathas in Old Gridania, who will reward you 1 certificate every 50 achievement points.

Bozjan Clusters

Bozjan Clusters can be used as currency in Save the Queen areas. They are exclusively earned as random drops from mobs with "4th Legion" in their name.

Company Credits

Company Credits are a currency passively earned by Free Companies as their members complete various activities in the game. They are spent on items and FC actions with the OIC Quartermaster of your aligned Grand Company. They can also be used at the Resident Caretaker in Residential Districts or the Mammet Voyager #004A in the Free Company Workshop.

Cosmic Exploration

Cosmocredits and zone-specific credits ( Lunar Credits and Phaenna Credits) are currencies specific to Cosmic Exploration. Cosmocredits can be earned and spent in all Cosmic Exploration zones, while the other credit types can only be earned and spent in their respective zone.

Faux Leaf

Faux Leaf is a currency acquired from the Faux Hollows. They can be traded to Faux Commander in Idyllshire for various items.

Island Sanctuary

Seafarer's Cowries, Islander's Cowries, and Felicitous Tokens are acquired from Island Sanctuary specific tasks. These are used to purchase unique rewards on the Unnamed Island.

Occult Crescent

Enlightenment Silver Pieces and Enlightenment Gold Pieces are the primary currencies in the Occult Crescent field operations. Sanguine Ciphers is a currency specific to The Occult Crescent: South Horn and are used only to enter The Forked Tower: Blood.

Lore

Eorzeans employ a system of units and measurements which serve to quantify various aspects of their daily lives. From currency to units of length and weight, familiarity with these concepts and their origins will afford the reader a deeper knowledge of the realm and the references employed by its residents to describe the world around them.

A History of Coin

When the Sixth Umbral Calamity came, laying waste to the land and swallowing up once-proud nations of magi and wise men, the currencies minted and circulated by these civilizations lost their value, and the economy of Eorzea returned to a primitive system of barter and trade. As the realm recovered and rebuilt itself after the dawn of the Sixth Astral Era, the currencies of Mhach and Amdapor came back into limited use, their values assigned roughly according to the worth of their component metals.

As city-states and nations came to flourish, certain interests took steps to mint their own currencies, with Sharlayan and Ishgard quick to follow suit. As contact between nations in these times was limited at best, no effort was made to introduce a universal standard, and for years, many and myriad currencies were exchanged throughout the land.

This changed in the years of peace that followed the Autumn War. Trade and diplomatic relations between nations flourished, and for reasons of economic convenience, voices calling for a universal currency grew louder.

In the year 1477 of the Sixth Astral Era, the leaders of Eorzea’s six great city-states came together, and after some debate reached the decision to mint a universal currency to be used the realm over. So it came to be that gil, a coinage once used by the ancient Allagan Empire, was reinstituted as the standard currency for all the land.

On the Design of Gil

In times of old, coins would typically bear designs inspired by heroes, leaders, or religious imagery of the nations that minted them. With the introduction of the gil as the standard currency, a new design was needed that would be neutral and acceptable to all. The design that was eventually chosen features the likeness of Nymeia, the Spinner, goddess of fate. This was seen as a fitting choice, given that the value of money can be as fickle as fate itself.
