This battle exercise will test your ability to breach enemy stronghold defenses.

Eliminate targets in each of the three antechambers before infiltrating the final chamber and engaging the cyclopean toad who makes the cave its den. Making quick work of the creature is key, for the yarzons who lurk behind the chamber's boulders will emerge once they smell blood.

— In-game description

Basic Training: Enemy Strongholds is a level 15 guildhest introduced in patch 2.0. It intends to teach basic group mechanics.

Objective

Breach the three gates and defeat the ledgeleaper!

Some gates will open automatically after all enemies have been defeated and the area is secure. There are, however, other gates which can only be opened using a lever. When you arrive in the final chamber, yarzons will attempt to break through the boulders they are trapped behind. Finish off the ledgeleaper before the vilekin can join the fray. Guide

In Basic Training: Enemy Strongholds, players are required to travel through a mini-dungeon in the form of a cavern.

Your party will encounter groups of Puk Hatchlings. In one of the encounters, a Rasher Hog and Lemurs will at attack your party from the back. Be sure to have your tank take its aggro as soon as possible. Some of the mobs may spawn behind the group.

There is an iron lever that will need to be pulled between each mob in order to advance in the instance - interaction on the lever will be activated when each group of mobs is destroyed. If the lever can't be pulled, check behind the group to see if another mob has spawned. You will encounter a group of Tamed Spriggans.

At the end of the dungeon, you will need to defeat a giant toad named Ledgeleaper.

In the Ledgeleaper's boss room, there are 2 level 15 boulders. Ledgeleaper will attempt to destroy the boulder in the right of the room. Once the boulder is destroyed a group of 3 Yarzon Lurkers enter the fight.

You should switch your damage dealers to the Yarzons and defeat them before focusing on the boss. Later in the fight, the Ledgeleaper will destroy the boulder in the left of the room and release another group of Yarzon Lurkers.

In many cases, if damage in the group is high enough, the Ledgeleaper can be defeated before the Yarzons are released.

Loot

Reward: Experience 1,450 experience, Gil 80 gil

Quickly, adventurer. Every moment spent chatting with me is a moment squandered.
Abandon currenty duty? Yes/No
The safety mechanism on the gate will deactivate once all threats in the area have been removed.
The first gate is open! Tend to your wounds before advancing to the second.

If the enemies spawning behind you are not defeated before Rasher Hog

Behind you! Slay the lesser enemies before concentrating your efforts on the true threat.
My orders are to aid you to victory. You only make it harder on yourselves by disregarding them.

If the enemies spawning behind the group are defeated before the Rasher hog

Now that those two are out of the way, concentrate your efforts on the hog.
Pull the lever and open the gate!
The second gate is open! One more, and you will have breached the gigantoad's lair.
Now pull the lever to open the gate...but only when you are ready for what waits on the other side.
The third gate has fallen! The lord of the lair awaits beyond!
Quickly! Those boulders will not hold the yarzons back for long!
The boulders are beginning to crack!

If no boulder is destroyed

A superb display of strength and speed! Well done!

If the first boulder is destryoed

A swarm of yarzons has broken through! Your attention is best focused on clearing away the six-legged vilekin before returning to the gigantoad.
Something tells me there will be more if you cannot make swift work of that toad.
There to the left of the gate! A second swarm of yarzons has appeared! Hurry and fell the gigantoad or you will have the vilekin to deal with, as well.
The boulders will crumble at any moment, allowing the yarzons entry!

If the second boulder is destroyed

A second swarm approaches quickly! Ready yourselves!
A fine display! Now come, collect your reward.
A solid performance. You seem to know your way around the battlefield. Here is to hoping that I may work with you again at a later time.
