GATEs
GATEs, or Gold Saucer Active Time Events, are FATE-like events within the Gold Saucer, consisting of mini-game challenges that reward participants with
MGP.
GATE events occur every 20 minutes in real-world time. At the following times, one of three events will be chosen at random:
- Every hour, on the hour (Earth Time)
- Air Force One (The Cieldalaes)
- Cliffhanger
- Leap of Faith (1 of 3 available courses)
- Hourly, 20 minutes past the hour (Earth Time)
- Any Way the Wind Blows
- The Slice Is Right
- Air Force One (The Gold Saucer)
- Hourly, 40 minutes past the hour (Earth Time)
- The Slice Is Right
- Leap of Faith (1 of 3 available courses)
- Air Force One (The Cieldalaes)
Ready. Aim. Fire! Strap into the Air Force and shoot the cactuar targets to rack up a high score for a handsome MGP reward.
Air Force One is a shooter ride wherein players board the Air Force and attempt to shoot as many targets as possible while riding along a preset course. Two different courses are available for this GATE. It was added in Patch 4.5.
- Shooting targets will reward points, but shooting a Ruby Bomb will deduct points.
- Rewards are based on how many correct targets the player shoots, with a maximum of
4,000 possible.
The mission statement of the Gold Saucer's founder, Godbert Manderville, states that all are welcome to seek employment at the Gold Saucer, regardless of race, nation, or creed. It's even said a kindly voidsent has joined their ranks after an aborted gladiatorial career. But who can withstand his gale-force nasal eruptions?
Any Way the Wind Blows is a challenge where players must stand in safe spots to avoid Typhon's attacks. It was added in Patch 2.51 as one of the original attractions.
- Standing in one of Typhon's attacks will push the player out of the arena, causing the GATE to end for them.
- Typhon's attacks are selected at random from a list of possible patterns, but the patterns are not shown until players are locked in their positions. As such, players are able to improve chances of success by standing in the spots that are targeted least frequently, but it is still random whether they will succeed or fail.
- Rewards are based on how many rounds the the player stays in the arena, with a maximum of
7,500 possible.
High atop a lofty locale, a wayward chocobo chick with a wont for wanderlust chirps out in distress. Are you adventurer enough to brave the heights and rescue the frightened hatchling!?
Cliffhanger is a platforming challenge where players must jump up platforms to rescue a stranded chocobo chick at the top. Two different courses are available for this GATE. It was added in Patch 2.51 as one of the original attractions.
- Players can repeat attempts to reach the Lost Hatchling until they are successful or time expires.
- As players climb, a goblin on the top platform will toss bombs that land among the platforms. These bombs will knock players away from the explosion, potentially off the platform.
- Rewards are given for reaching the Lost Hatchling, for a total of
3,000.
Hop, skip, and jump your way to the top in this death-defying test of athleticism. Will you climb straightway to the finish line, or claim trophies precariously perched along the way? To scale the course's dizzying heights will require strong legs, and a stronger stomach. Or perhaps one need only take a leap of faith.
Leap of Faith is a platforming challenge where the players must jump between platforms to collect cactuar trophies and ultimately reach the goal point. Three different courses are available for this GATE. It was added in Patch 4.4.
- Players can repeat attempts to gather trophies and reach the goal point until they reach (and click on) the goal point or time expires.
- Rewards are based on how many of the cactuar trophies the player collects plus a bonus for reaching the goal point, with a maximum of
4,000 possible.
Hailing from the Far East, the mysterious swordsman Yojimbo descends upon the Gold Saucer! Only those with lightning-quick reflexes and the providence of the kami will be able to withstand his onslaught and reign victorious in the ultimate test of skill...and sheer luck.
The Slice Is Right is a challenge where players must avoid falling hazards. Yojimbo will summon bamboo stalks and quickly slice through them. It was added in Patch 5.1.
- Standing where bamboo emerges or getting hit by falling bamboo will push the player out of the arena, causing the GATE to end for them.
- This is the same pillar-falling mechanic that is used in other content, including one of the Ivalice alliance raids and one of the Arcadion raids.
- Rewards are based on how many rounds the the player stays in the arena, with a maximum of
12,000 possible.
Retired GATEs
The Gold Saucer suffers from an imp infestation, and the management recruited a contingent of adventurers to purge the voidsent pests. To their dismay, the imps transformed themselves into the spitting images of their would-be hunters. Can you identify friend from foe quickly enough to put an end to the two-faced threat!?
Skinchange We Can Believe In was an impostor identification challenge added in Patch 2.51, and was later replaced by The Slice is Right in Patch 5.1.
- A mischevious imp would disguise itself to look exactly the same as an NPC, among a group of gathered NPCs. The player would need to identify subtle differences among them to find the fiendish impostor and complete this GATE.
Do you dance a mean Manderville? Is your Bomb Dance positively explosive? The Gold Saucer is ever looking to shine the spotlight on the finest young dancers in Eorzea! Prove yourself on the grand stage and it just might be your first step into Ul'dahn high society.
The Time of My Life was an emote-matching challenge added in Patch 2.51, and was later replaced by Air Force One in Patch 4.5.
- NPCs would perform four random emotes, which the player would then need to remember and then perform in the same order. This process repeat four times. The player needed to successfully repeat at least 10 out of 16 emotes to complete this GATE.
En route to the Gold Saucer: a shipment of priceless Thorne Dynasty vases. The Jolly Raptor has been entrusted with the delivery, but the shipping conglomerate has reason to believe that a band of unscrupulous brigands has set their sights on the cargo. Are you stealthy and surreptitious enough to deliver the goods to their destination while steering clear of the bandits' greedy gaze?
Vase Off was a delivery challenge added in Patch 2.51, and was later replaced by Leap of Faith in Patch 4.4.
- The player was given 2 or 3 vases which needed to be delivered to specific NPCs around the Gold Saucer. They would fail the GATE if a patrolling bandit took the vase from them or if they jumped from a high ledge (causing the vase to break), but could make another attempt.
