“In a distant church of the First Light persists an unholy union, sealed away and forgotten by time. Although no more yielding but a dream, this simulacrum of Light and Darkness will test your readiness to face what lurks at the end of the pilgrim road...
— In-game description
The Final Verse is a level 91 deep dungeon introduced in patch 7.35 with Dawntrail.
It is an isolated battle against an identical version of the floor 99 boss in Pilgrim's Traverse that serves mostly as a practice mode. This duty does not count towards deep dungeon completion but will occasionally provide rewards.
Players' aetherpool levels from Pilgrim's Traverse apply in this duty; there is no item level requirement.
This duty does not interact with any existing Pilgrim's Traverse save files: pomanders and juniper incenses are unavailable. However, Pilgrim's Potions are available.
Unlock and Entry
After reaching stone 99 of Pilgrim's Traverse, players will be able to challenge the Final Verse. This boss fight is identical to the one fought at stone 99.
Once this duty has been unlocked, it is no longer necessary to retain save data that reaches to stone 99.
After speaking with Vanthau in Il Mheg (X:29.9 Y:6.0), select "Invoke the Final Verse" and choose whether to enter with a fixed or matched party. When entering with a matched party, aetherpool gear strength must be +94 or above.
As with Pilgrim's Traverse, your character's attributes will not be affected by normal gear, and instead will be dictated by aetherpool gear strength.
Additionally, while players may challenge this duty at level 91, their level will automatically be adjusted to 100 upon entering. There are no role requirements or restrictions for parties.
Guide
Unholy Union: Eminent Grief and Devoured Eater
Players may fall off the edge of the arena to their deaths.
This encounter has two bosses: Eminent Grief and Devoured Eater. Both bosses have overlapping hitboxes, although Eminent Grief's hitbox is larger. Several times throughout the battle, both bosses will be casting actions that require players to pay attention to both at the same time.
In addition, there is pools of darkness on the ground which gives a Dark Vengeance debuff, and also pools of light which gives a Light Vengeance debuff, which are important for this encounter. Each debuff lasts for 3 minutes, and will temporarily incapacitate the player if allowed to expire naturally: light inflicts petrification, and dark inflicts hysteria. However, these timers are sufficiently long enough to be disregarded.
Players can mark each boss as a reminder for which debuff color they need to damage or resolve a certain mechanic from a given boss, e.g.
(yellow) for Eminent Grief and
(purple) for Devoured Eater.
Finally, both bosses' HP must be roughly balanced. If the difference between the two exceeds ~25%, the bosses will gain Damage Up and regen stacks. The system message "Light grows..." or "Darkness grows..." will appear depending on which one is higher.
Eminent Grief (Dark Boss)
This boss can only take damage from players that have the Light Vengeance debuff from stepping on a pool of light.
- Chains of Condemnation: Two large fireballs will surround the boss. Inflicts Chains of Condemnation on each player. If the player is moving when the debuff is active, they will take heavy damage. Stay still before the cast finishes. Unlike a regular pyretic debuff, players are allowed to attack without taking damage.
- Ball of Fire: Four small fireballs will surround the boss, denoting a late telegraphed circle AoE where each player was standing previously. Keep moving before the end of the cast bar and away from other players. Being hit by these will inflict Suppuration.
- Note that Chains of Condemnation or Ball of Fire are always combined with Blade of First Light (middle or side cleaves from the Devoured Eater).
- Spinelash: Targets a player marked with a red marker and fires a late telegraphed line AoE after the marker disappears. If the beam hits one of the windows behind the arena, a Vodoriga Minion add will spawn. Stand on the thick gold lines to the left or right of the middle to avoid breaking any windows. Remember to sidestep out of the way of the line AoE.
- If the add spawns, the party should focus it down. It will use Terror Eye, a baited circle AoE telegraph on a random player.
- Abyssal Blaze (no cast bar): Opens two rifts in different orientations, which each drop four purple crystals in the arena in a diagonal line which will explode after a certain period of time.
- Tears open the rift up/down: When the crystals explode, AoEs will travel Forward & Backward across the arena.
- Tears open the rift left/right: When the crystals explode, AoEs will travel Left & Right across the arena.
- This always leaves one corner of the arena safe. Once both sets of crystals spawn, players can type the safe corner in chat to remember. The crystals will glow orange for a few seconds before they explode.
- Drain Aether: Will cast this at the same time as the other boss. Steals a heavy amount of HP from all players, which negated by having the Light Vengeance debuff by stepping on a pool of light. One of the two bosses will randomly have a faster cast than the other: the faster cast must be resolved first. For example, if Eminent Grief has the faster cast, players will step in a light puddle, wait until its cast finishes, then step in a dark puddle to protect against the Devoured Eater's cast.
Devoured Eater (Light Boss)
This boss can only take damage from players that have the Dark Vengeance debuff from stepping on a pool of darkness.
- Blade of First Light: (2 Options)
- The boss holds two blades: Late telegraphed line AoEs hitting the left and right thirds of the arena.
- The boss holds one large sword: A late telegraphed line AoE hitting the middle third of the arena.
- Note that Blade of First Light is always combined with Chains of Condemnation or Ball of Fire from the other boss.
- Bounds of Sin: Pulls all players to the center of the arena, then spawns a series of fast circle AoE telegraphs around the center in a clockwise or counterclockwise pattern. Being hit by these will knock players back, potentially off the arena. These will also leave behind an impassable spike barrier when they resolve, eventually trapping the middle, which will detonate. Escape the middle by moving through the last telegraph to appear.
- Drain Aether: Will cast this at the same time as the other boss, Steals a heavy amount of HP from all players, which can be negated by having the Dark Vengeance debuff by stepping on a pool of darkness. One of the two bosses will randomly have a faster cast than the other: the faster cast must be resolved first.
