Dialogue
Arenlona: The Admiral herself has seen it fit to dub our stead an exemplary model of her settlement initiative. As a Stead botanist, I attribute our success to unyielding innovation─our willingness to attempt any and all agricultural techniques at least once, no matter how counterintuitive or potentially embarrassing.
Bait and Swat
Arenlona: So, Anaoc has at last abandoned the naive hope that the kobold menace would abate of its own accord. Their numbers have increased manifold as they expand southward. The food shortages spurred by overpopulation quicken the cycle of aggression. A common beggar would know better than to expect foodstuffs aboard a stagecoach bound for the Stead, but the filthy scamps grow desperate. We need only set the bait, and their hunger will be their undoing. Tell Anaoc to make the arrangements.
Beetle Juice
Arenlona: Return to me once you've collected three phials of ladybug viscera. Arenlona: It's elementary, really. Aphids live in fear of ladybugs, and so applying the scent of ladybug blood to our crops is certain to ward off the parasites. We are manipulating the laws of nature. Of course, we could have just let the ladybugs go on defending the crops as always and not squash them for their viscera, but I hardly see the science in that.
Walking for Walker's
Arenlona: Walker's popotoes? That's a name I've not heard in a while. I'm afraid you're far too late, we haven't cultivated those since the Calamity. I cannot say I miss them either, they were so susceptible to both disease and the cold, it was always an uphill battle. You won't find any in storage either, in case you were getting your hopes up. We threw the last of them out long, long ago. I've never heard of anyone else volunteering to grow them since. Sorry I couldn't be of any help. Arenlona: As I said, I don't imagine we'll be growing that variety again any time soon. Good luck with your search all the same.
Whack-a-Mole
Arenlona: Well, that was so easy, it makes me wonder why I've spent my life formulating complex solutions to problems rather than merely going around killing things. Nevertheless, I'm afraid it's too late to alter my methods now. I'll continue to focus on the complex solutions, and have you stick around to kill things. What hubris! What arrogance to believe that I, one woman alone, could overcome the unfathomably vast and profound mysteries of nature... But with you here, I'm sure we can do it.
