Deals fire damage with a potency of 1,500 to all nearby enemies while incapacitating self.
— In-game description
Self-destruct is an action unlocked at level 1. It is available for Blue Mage.
Credited as the source of the “bomb” voidsent family's name, Self-destruct, when used by blue mages, converts the entirety of its caster's energy into fire-aspected aether to cause an explosion. The application of oil has been observed to make it more effective─though likely also more painful.
|Arena Cherry Bomb||50||Voidsent||Bomb||Bomb-edy of Errors|
|Blasting Cap||17||Voidsent||Bomb||Copperbell Mines|
|Bright Balloon||29||Voidsent||Bomb||North Shroud (17.5,27.1)|
|Glide Bomb||12||Voidsent||Bomb||Western Thanalan (27,17)|
|Lady's Candle||28||Voidsent||Bomb||Haukke Manor|
- Be sure to wait until the enemy uses Self-Destruct to kill itself. Do NOT kill it beforehand, only tag it (ie, hit it at least once).
- "Incapacitate" here means "KO", as in you'll need a Raise to get back up afterward.
- The Toad Oil spell necessary for the increased damage from the additional effect is conveniently available to learn Western Thanalan, the same zone as the Glide Bombs.
- Using this spell is the only method of incapacitating oneself in safe zones. This spell can be used to trivialize some Sightseeing Log entries that require completing a jumping puzzle, most notably Stormblood entry 53 in Kugane on top of the lamp post. A Blue Mage that KOs themselves with this spell can be resurrected by a player on top of the lamp post, which will teleport them to the vista without having to complete the jumping puzzle.
