- Damage over Time effects in FFXIV apply their damage every 3 seconds. The potency of Damage over Time effects in FFXIV is given at the same rate.
- Comparing on a GCD basis, in order to match the equivalent 160 potency of
Heavy Shot, the target would have to take 4 ticks of Venom (100 base potency, plus 4x 15 potency from venom = +60 potency) or live for at least 12 seconds after using Venomous Bite/applying Venom. The potency over the full duration of Venomous Bite and Venom combined is 325 damage, so if the target lives for the full duration, up to 165 potency may be gained over simply using Heavy Shot.
History
Patch 6.0 (2021-12-07):
- Potency for damage over time has been changed from 30 to 15.
- Duration has been increased from 30s to 45s.
Patch 5.1 (2019-10-29): Damage over time potency has been reduced from 40 to 30.- Patch 5.0 (2019-07-02): Effect duration has been increased from 18 to 30 seconds.
Patch 4.0 (2017-06-20):
- Requirement changed to archer and bard only.
- TP cost reduced from 80 to 60.
Patch 3.3 (2016-06-07): Potency of the venom effect has been increased from 35 to 40.
