Once used by Far Eastern priests as stands for displaying sacred relics during religious ceremonies, it is only recently that Masakaki have found their way into the hands of spellcasters. The shakujo’s head is adorned with twin wands made of cuttings from a broad-leafed evergreen known in Doma and Hingashi as “sakaki.”
