The city which has sprung up along its edges is populated almost solely by scholars investigating the nearby ruins of the Invisible City.

Highbridge is a settlement in Sandgate. The construction of the bridge was commissioned by the Syndicate in the wake of the Seventh Umbral Calamity, which created a giant chasm across Eastern Thanalan. A settlement began to form when scholars flocked to the chasm in order to investigate it. It is frequently raided by a group of Qiqirn bandits, led by Gilpincher Zuzuroon, who have been hired by the Amalj'aa to kidnap residents for tempering at the Bowl of Embers.
