Tactical Points (TP) was a resource initially introduced in Final Fantasy XIV 1.0, although the concept originated in and was carried over from Final Fantasy XI. TP was primarily used to execute weaponskills, serving as the physical DPS equivalent to MP.

In Final Fantasy XIV 1.0, TP appeared as a blue bar alongside HP and MP bars, functioning similarly to its FFXI incarnation. TP began at 0 and could accumulate up to a maximum of 3000 points. Characters gained TP by dealing or receiving damage.

In A Realm Reborn, TP was redesigned into a yellow bar positioned next to HP and MP. It started at 1000 points and regenerated gradually both in and out of combat, though regeneration slowed significantly during battles. Physical DPS jobs had to carefully manage TP in prolonged encounters. Using Sprint icon1.png  Sprint was particularly costly in terms of DPS, as it completely drained TP, also leaving the character with limited sprint duration if their TP was already low. Certain encounters, notably Raid The Binding Coil of Bahamut - Turn 4, became infamous for heavy TP consumption. Jobs such as Bard could help mitigate TP issues with abilities like Army's Paeon.png  Army's Paeon, which provided TP-refreshing effects.

Disciples of Magic (Magic Ranged DPS role.png Magical Ranged DPS and Healer role.png Healer) jobs generally did not utilize TP, focusing instead on MP.

As job resource management evolved and shifted towards specialized Job Gauges, TP was removed entirely as part of a resource simplification overhaul introduced with Shadowbringers.
