Final Fantasy XIV is set on:
- Hydaelyn, the Source, or Etheirys, is the setting of most of the game.
- The First, one of the Shards (reflections) of Hydaelyn, is the setting of the Shadowbringers expansion.
- The Thirteenth or The Void, one of the Shards of Hydaelyn, is the home of all Voidsent and a major part of the Post-Endwalker plotline.
- The Ninth, one of the Shards of Hydaelyn, is the setting of parts of the Dawntrail expansion.
The English localization frequently uses an obsolete astrological meaning of the word "star" to refer to the planet the game is set on.
There other eleven other Shards have not yet been depicted in game. Many of these Reflections were destroyed by Rejoining with the Source during a Calamity.
