— In-game description

Tsubame-gaeshi is an action unlocked at level 74. It is available for Samurai.

  •   Enhanced Iaijutsu (Lv. 74) - Reduces Iaijutsu cast time to 1.3 seconds.
Also grants Tsubame-gaeshi Ready after executing iaijutsu excluding Higanbana

Notes

  • All applicable Iaijutsu will grant Tsubame-gaeshi Ready for 30 seconds, and the effect will not fade after execution of any weaponskill thereafter, though will be overwritten if another applicable Iaijutsu is executed.
  • Because the range of   Kaeshi: Setsugekka and   Tendo Kaeshi Setsugekka have a range of 6 yalms, this action can be held and used when out of melee range (being 3 yalms).

Trivia

  • Tsubame-gaeshi 燕返し(つばめかえし)means "Swallow return strike" and it is a reference to a famous technique of the mythical swordsman Sasaki Kojirō.
  • This action upon release in Shadowbringers was controversial, due to the fact that it could only be executed following   Iaijutsu, while also on a 60-second cooldown. This severely increased the difficulty of the job at an intermediate level, while raising the maximum amount of player skill expression, as this action was considered a major cooldown and required a strict (referred to in the community as "looping") or customized rotation to follow in order to not drift usages.
