Eldest son and heir to his clan’s soy sauce empire, Kageyama left the daily minutiae to his rather more competent younger brother, allowing him to devote his every waking moment to pleasures of the flesh. His hedonistic ways have apparently endeared him to the social elite of Kugane, who flock to the scion of thirty-eight summers’ soirées without fail. In a recent notorious incident, he led a group of insurgent ronin in laying siege to Kugane Castle...though in truth it would seem he had no interest in their cause, and was simply indulging in yet another idle whim. After a group of foreign adventurers brought an end to the insurgents’ machinations, Kageyama was detained by the Sekiseigumi, and his fate seemed all but certain. However, after he pleaded that he was an innocent bystander and a victim like the others, the peacekeepers inexplicably released him. The prevailing rumor is that his clan paid an exorbitant sum to a bakufu official to secure his freedom, leaving the prodigal son of the Shiratama to resume his endless pursuit of an extravagant life.
