Hyllfyr

"Slit their throats, steal their wares, share the bounty."

Leader of the Bloody Executioners, "One-eyed" Hyllfyr is a giant even amongst other Sea Wolves. With one hand, he wields a greataxe larger than many men could lift, and has won himself a name as the brutal lord of the pirates. He was a rival of Bloefhis, the penultimate captain of the League of Lost Bastards, and for many years the two were locked in a struggle for the upper hand. It is also widely thought that the Galadion Accord—and Limsa's current unity—could not have come about but for his aid.

After his sixtieth nameday, however, rumors began to swirl that Hyllfyr was stricken by an ailment of the lungs. His vessel, the Astalicia, has not weighed anchor in some time, and he has now seen his sixty-ninth winter come and go.
Nonetheless, such is his fearsome reputation that all Lominsan pirates keep watch for his reappearance.

Lore

During The Trident, a competition held in Limsa Lominsa to determine who the next Admiral would be, Hyllfyr and Merlwyb were rivals going against each other. After a Kraken's Arms register was stolen, Hyllfyr sent his men to retrieve it so he would have it as leverage against the rival crew. He and his men come up against Rostnsthal and an adventurer, who refuse to turn it over. In a rage, Hyllfyr set his men upon the two and left.

Though he would eventually obtain the register, Merlwyb would still go on to win the Trident, becoming the Admiral of Limsa Lominsa. However, when she became Admiral, she outlawed the long held tradition of piracy, believing that in order to do their part in uniting with Eorzea, they could not continue attacking the vessels of other nations. Hyllfyr would not stand for what he believed to be an attack on their very way of life, and began uniting rebel crews under him in a bid to build an army and take out Merlwyb.

When a meeting was orchestrated between Hyllfyr and Merlwyb aboard the Braveheart by a member of the newly formed Maelstrom, Malin, a bloody battle broke out when he attempted to assassinate Hyllfyr. By the time the fight had ended, only Hyllfyr and Merlwyb had survived. It was at this time that Hyllfyr finally came to accept Merlwyb's ways and resolved to follow her orders. To hold both parties (and effectively all pirates) to the agreement, the two forged the Galadion Accord. This allowed pirates to become "privateers", and loot and pillage ships of the Garlean Empire.

In the years since, Hyllfyr has suffered a major affliction, an unknown virus that attacks his lungs. Year after year he has grown weaker, eventually becoming all but bedridden, but due to his reputation has held him in high regard amongst all the pirates. After he stepped down as the leader of The Bloody Executioners, several have come forth in an attempt to take his place as captain, but none have managed to hold the position. Hyllfyr would eventually bring Sicard on as his right hand, telling him that he had the makings of a great leader.

When Sicard attempted to challenge Merlwyb to a duel for the title of Admiral, Merlwyb easily defeated him, but would not kill him. When Sicard attempted to shoot Merlwyb, Hyllfyr blasted the gun out of his hand, berating him for not following his orders. Enraptured with their former captains appearance in a very long time, the ship fell silent. Hyllfyr delivered an impassioned speech about how everyone was now part of the crew of "the good ship Limsa Lominsa", and each must do their part in supporting the Admiral in uniting Eorzea. He told them to make something of themselves, a new breed of pirate, and let him be the last of those who could do naught but steal. He reminded Sicard why he had chosen him as his right hand, and told him that all he lacked was the belief in himself to be a great leader. He apologized to Merlwyb for the confusion, and returned to his quarters.
