Journal
- J'yhuh Tia smiles with open relief.
- J'yhuh Tia warmly welcomes you back from the Crucible. As your trials have only just begun, he suggests you all return to the Bannock, where you can speak freely.
- The Crucible of the Unbroken is not simply a gauntlet of battles, but a test of wisdom and tactical skill. To this end, Loosefrox offers an unlikely personal lesson. She strides off, leaving you to follow your prickly comrade and partake of what knowledge she is willing to impart.
- Alone at last, Loosefrox is apologetic for her brash attitude. People are not as easy as beasts to commune with, but she is willing to try. With any luck, a stroll about the Central Shroud will deepen your connection with Loosefrox—and perhaps yield some “beastfacts” along the way.
※You must be accompanied by Loosefrox to complete this task. Speak with her again should you become separated.
- Loosefrox explains that learning how to exploit the weaknesses of foes you face within the Crucible will be crucial, given its various restrictions. You continue your stroll together, hopeful she has a few more kernels of knowledge to share.
- The corporeal body, Loosefrox continues, may also be subjected to a variety of ailments. She makes example of her own favorite familiar, claiming the giant sandworm is strongly averse to shockwaves—a fact she demands you immediately forget. You continue your stroll together...
- Loosefrox calls for a break, claiming to have lost much of her stamina since her former days as an adventurer. You learn that your goblin compatriot is skilled in wielding all sorts of weapons, but finds her greatest joy in studying beasts of the wild. During the course of her explorations, she once wandered into a nest of sandworms and was saved from certain death by none other than J'yhuh Tia himself. Moved by the connection he shared with his familiars, Loosefrox begged his tutelage and has been a beastmaster ever since. Growing sentimental one moment, she becomes gruff in the next, emphasizing her superior abilities. In fact, she says, she can prove her claim right now by pitting you against one of her familiars. A drake skilled in fire magicks—but you know all you need to win.
- Aided by your knowledge on drakes, you defeat Spicekick Mustard. While her facial expression remains inscrutable, Loosefrox is staring at you with what you suspect is begrudging approval.
- Just as Loosefrox is begrudgingly admitting her approval, Lauda emerges from the woods. Instinctively, Loosefrox rises to your defense, but Lauda simply wishes to speak. The Kornago tradition has intrigued her, still captive to Guttler's will though she is. She had never considered beasts to be more than emotionless fiends, but she now reflects upon all she has experienced and seen. She wonders if her people, the Lhu, had been mistaken in their practices, but quickly remembers the part she plays in this charade and disappears once more.
- J'yhuh Tia has heard all from Loosefrox, and urges you to focus upon training. Your hard work will ultimately spell the end of both Lauda and Guttler's suffering, so you apply yourself to practice as the second board of the Crucible looms upon the horizon...
※The next beastmaster quest will be available from J'yhuh Tia upon reaching level 40.

Dialogue
Pshhh... Shkohhh... Don't forget to prepready.
Pshhh...! Did you do it!? Did you bigwin!?
You did well, Forename. Welcome back.
I-I wasn't on tenterhooks! ...Maybe a little. Shkohhh...
Allow me to extend compliments on behalf of my master. Breaking a beast like Pas de Seul is no mean feat.
Guttler waits on the third board, yes? Meaning we should take our celebrations back to the Bannock and strategize for the second.
I shouldn't have bothered getting worrywashed! Pshhh...
Credit where it's due for diving into the unknown and returning alive. Tell us—what was the Crucible like?
...Fascinating. If such a range of opponents can be expected of all boards, a mind for strategy may prove a keener weapon than any axe.
Pshhh... Shkohhh... I've been waiting for this moment.
Leave Forename to me, Wiseteach! I'll cram some hintclues into my dullsister/brother for you.
Is that so? Then she/he's all yours. ...Just remember to play nice, Loosefrox.
I'm always nice! Come along, Forename. Let's have a lazywalk.
Learn all you can from Loosefrox. Few can rival her knowledge of the wilds, and you will benefit from any wisdom she offers.
Pshhh... Shkohhh... This is the first we've traded tongueflaps on our lonesome.
...I know mine can be sharp. But I mean well. Promise.
If only people were as easy to work with as beastfriends...
...Anyway. We can start with a lazywalk and take it from there.
What will you do?
Speak with Loosefrox.
Part ways with Loosefrox.
Nothing.
Pshhh... D-Don't think I'm doing you favors. I'm just saving Wiseteach the trouble!
Are you sure you wish to part ways with Loosefrox?
Shkohhh... Something better to do than learn about beastfriends? Fine. I'll grumpwait near the Bannock.
Pshhh... Shkohhh... Shall we?
Pshhh... It sounds like Crucible beastfriends—or their shadeshapes, anyway—have significant strengths and weaknesses.
By filling your braincase with strategy, you'll know exactly how to knockfight any foe.
Beasts found within the Crucible of the Unbroken may possess one weakness of the following affinities: fire, wind, lightning, water, ice, earth, slashing, piercing, or blunt.
Additionally, physical and magic resistances are unique to each foe, so be sure to study your opponents' attributes before battle.
Treants around these parts are skilled in magicks—so maybe call one to knockfight an opponent weak to magicks. Simple enough, right?
Some people favor only one beastfriend, but in a gauntlet like the Crucible, you can't afford to have softfeels. Information is your greatest ally.
Let's keep lazywalking.
Weaknesses come in all shapes, you know. Meatbags are subject to loads of maladies: slowness, heaviness, stoniness...
The shockwave from a simple blastbomb is enough to send my favorite beastfriend reeling—and she's a giant sandworm!
Hintclues like these can be deciding factors in knockfights between equal opponents. Use anything and everything at your disposal. Playing smart isn't playing dirty.
Opponents may be susceptible to certain status ailments. Exploiting these vulnerabilities may prove helpful during combat.
It's better to make more beastfriends than not. The more variety in your kinbonds, the easier knockfights will be.
...B-But forget what I said about my own beastfriend! Come on, let's go!
Shkohhh... I can't believe you made me trade tongueflaps about my beastfriend... Forget them, all right?
Pshhh... Shkohhh... That's enough of a lazywalk for now. Time for a breathbreak.
Shkohhh... I feel like such an oldcreak... Back when I was an adventurer, I could fastclimb all day long.
I mastered no little number of fightsticks in my time. And not just swords and hammers—blastbombs, too.
...You have the same look. Like someone with a sickening number of fightsticks in your pack.
Filling my braincase with beastfacts was always a passion of mine.
Once, I got so dreamstruck by exploring that I wandered straight into a nest of sandworms. ...The one who pulled me out alive was Wiseteach.
I had never seen anyone heartlock so tightly with a beastfriend before. It was as if he entrusted his entire soul to his familiars.
I begged him to take me on as his disciple, right then and there. And that's how I made my first pact—with Chewchum Popoto.
The way she opened her heart to me... Wiseteach's proudsmile... I'll never forget that day for as long as I live.
N-Not like I'm getting watereyes over it! It was just a joyday, all right!?
What I'm trying to say is that I've been heartlocking with beastfriends for far longer than you. If it came to a knockfight between the two of us...
...Actually, why not? Let's see how you stand up against one of my beastfriends!
I already slipped you tongueflaps about Chewchum Popoto's weakness, so I'll summon someone different.
...But you're still my dullsister/brother, so I'll give you a hintclue anyway. Drakes like Spicekick Mustard are masters at breathing fire.
Come on! Impress me!
Pshhh... Intimidated? Spicekick Mustard is a drake, and drakes have a talent for flame. I've told you how to bigwin—now show me you're capable!
Shkohhh... Well. Better than I expected.
But don't think you've taken the measure of my beastmastery. Against Chewchum Popoto, you wouldn't...
Lauda?
Why are you here!? If you so much as lay a finger on Forename, I'll—!
Unnecessary. It is not I who desires the decimation of beastmasters, but my master.
I am my master's humble servant. But a servant is not devoid of...opinion.
Opinion? ...All right. Then why did you seekfind us?
...Your ways intrigue me. Those of the Kornago tradition.
That's little wonder. Our peoples are worlds apart when it comes to beastfriends.
You Lhu slaytrap beastsouls... But you're saying our kinbonds interest you?
Beasts are, by their very nature, a threat to mankind. Their instinct is to turn fang and claw against us. Thus must we cull and control them.
Not once did I think to commune with them. Understand them. To consider they are capable of emotion still beggars belief...
What will you say?
Has Guttler taught you nothing?
I never thought twice about slaying beasts...
Beastfriends have feelings too!
My master has taught me wrath. Wrath, born from pain. ...Pain, born from grief.
But you changed. You have come to believe that bonding with these creatures is possible?
Beast...friends...?
A turn of phrase ungainly on my tongue. ...But not without its charm.
We don't mean to frownjudge you entirely. Beastfriends can be dangerous, and even we believe that a show of strength is necessary to forge a kinbond.
But the Lhu chose a path that led straight to sorrow... I don't envy you.
Were we misguided as a people? Perhaps my master's vengeance is...
...Forgive my intrusion. I shall look forward to your next venture into the Crucible of the Unbroken.
And off she goes...
We should get back to Wiseteach. Take care that my precious tongueflaps don't dribble out your braincase along the way!
Pshhh... Shkohhh... Enjoy the lazywalk? I suppose it was all right.
Welcome back. Loosefrox says you had an unexpected visitor.
Myriad traditions exist among beastmasters. That our beliefs differ accordingly is only natural.
Emerge victorious from the Crucible, and you prove the strength of our principles.
In so doing, even the maiden's captured heart may find peace—and Guttler's soul find rest.
