Dialogue

Accepting the Quest

Wood Wailer Expeditionary Captain: Well met, adventurer. Thanks to your diligence, we have expanded the scope of our reconnaissance missions in the ruins. Unfortunately, we have yet to find any clues as to who, or what, is the source of our problems.

Wood Wailer Expeditionary Captain: You claimed the undead spoke of a robed figure, correct? Perhaps this is the foul sorcerer who gave birth to the palace and its inhabitants.

Wood Wailer Expeditionary Captain: To not only create such a labyrinth, but to fill it with the souls of so many innocents... We are dealing with a foe possessed of dark and terrible power.

Wood Wailer Expeditionary Captain: It pains me to burden you, but on behalf of the Wood Wailers I would ask that you seek out and put an end to the one behind all this. I can think of none more capable for the task at hand.

Wood Wailer Expeditionary Captain: My men have not the strength to stand with you in the ruins, but rest assured we shall do all we can to support you here at Quarrymill. Now go -- drive out the evil of the Palace of the Dead, before the deceased should find their way out into the Twelveswood.

System: You can now explore beyond floor 50 of the Palace of the Dead.

Floor 55 Cutscene

Nybeth Obdilord: The art of true resurrection... a challenge even in this world, it would seem. The Trader's Spurn seemed promising, but inevitably renders the subject undead.

Nybeth Obdilord: The magicks of Gridania proved equally ineffective, only pulling souls back from the brink of death, unable to reach beyond the veil.

Floor 60 Cutscene

Nybeth Obdilord: Aether, the great catalyst. The building block from which all creation is born, capable of reconstituting flesh through sheer will.

Nybeth Obdilord: Heh heh heh... How fortuitous that I should be pulled from oblivion to continue my work in this world. More fortuitous still that I should find so fine a specimen as her.

Floor 70 Cutscene

Nybeth Obdilord: Yet even that experiment ended in failure. Such a pity.

Nybeth Obdilord: She was the key, and with the strength of her spirit I would have flung wide the gates of truth. I would have discovered the means to escape death. Immortality...

Floor 80 Cutscene

Nybeth Obdilord: Mortality is but an illusion, and [he/she] would dare preach its falesehoods to besmirch her spirit, to close her eyes to the truth.

Nybeth Obdilord: Could [he/she] not see the girl lamented the veil of death? That she would have rejoiced to see it lifted?

Floor 100 Pre-Battle Cutscene

Nybeth Obdilord: Tracked me down, have you? It seems my subjects were not as sturdy as I hoped.

Nybeth Obdilord: You stand before Nybeth Obdilord, necromancer and arbiter of of life and death.

Nybeth Obdilord: Mine is a noble art, the path to salvation of the body and soul. I have come too far to be stopped by the likes of you!

Floor 100 Post-Battle Cutscene

Nybeth Obdilord: Even here they fail to understand...

Nybeth Obdilord: Humanity yearns for salvation from the ravages of death... to cast off the fetters of morality...

Nybeth Obdilord: Would you not try to free those you hold most dear?
