Journal
- This excited adventurer is starved for a listening ear.
- The adventurer in the Carline Canopy trembles with excitement as he describes his encounter with a curious creature in the Central Shroud. A fluffy white beast that can neither be described as a sheep or a wolf certainly sounds strange for the Twelveswood, so you set off for Sorrel Haven to confirm the sighting yourself.
- You discover the beast in question under attack, and immediately rush to its defense. Before you have time to draw your weapon, however, lightning strikes. From the trees emerges a coeurl, soon joined by a mysterious Miqo'te who stands comfortably by its side. With a word, the duo lunges forward and strikes your aggressor unconscious. Before introductions can be made, yet another newcomer dashes onto the scene—a breathless goblin by the name of Loosefrox, who is astounded by the presence of the curious creature, identifying it as a Cu Sith. While the Miqo'te gentleman shares in her wonder, he suggests a change of locale.
- The mysterious man in furs is J'yhuh Tia and, like Loosefrox, he is a beastmaster of the Kornago tradition. The Cu Sith seems none the worse for wear, thanks to your intervention, and is clearly fixated upon you. J'yhuh Tia hands you a cut of meat and encourages you to feed it to the young beast.
- The Cu Sith greedily devours the offering, demonstrating a clear tendency towards domesticity. To further confirm J'yhuh Tia's guess that it may have been brought to Gridania by a beastmaster, he would have you /pet the fluffy creature.
- Not only is the Cu Sith receptive to your touch, it relishes in the contact, luxuriating on the ground like a happy pup. Both beastmasters are shocked by this unguarded display of affection from a species so generally shy. J'yhuh Tia estimates that either the Cu Sith has taken a particular liking to you, or you simply have a way with beasts. Regardless, he offers his services as a teacher, should the path of a beastmaster interest you.
- While many traditions of beastmasters exist, the Kornago believe strongly in the power of teamwork between mankind and beast. J'yhuh Tia asks if you are prepared to care for the Cu Sith with integrity, and you accept the responsibility of its young life. It remains to be seen how the two of you will grow as a team, your journey only just begun. Nevertheless, you steel yourself to heed the call of the wilds.

Dialogue
You're an adventurer too, aren't you? Just listen to this!
I saw something. In the Twelveswood. A remarkable beast!
It was white, fluffy, four-legged—as much a sheep as it was a wolf! Given its docility, I attempted a cautious approach, but it spooked and fled into the forest...
Alas, bound by my own duties, I had no time to pursue... Still, I'd wager my best boots that the creature was a foreign breed. In all my travels of Eorzea, never have I encountered its like before.
Anyway, I simply had to share my discovery with a like-minded soul. Keep your eyes peeled near Sorrel Haven—the curious beast may yet linger!
Take care if you go in search of the creature. Sorrel Haven is no stranger to bloodthirsty beasts.
Ghhhrl...
Squee!?
Having a bit of a squirrel-tantrum, are we? Still. Can't have you senselessly attacking the helpless.
...Whomsoever they may be. Fascinating.
Hold fast, stranger. This won't take but a moment.
We move!
Squeeew...
My thanks. Till next time.
We only knocked it unconscious. Doubtless it felt threatened by the newcomer to its woods—but I've found a short nap can do wonders for an ill temper.
Pshhh...! Shkohhh...! Wiseteach! W-Wait for me!
...Hm? Oh, I thought you were on my heels. My apologies, Loosefrox.
Apologies won't unfog my mask, Wiseteach! Use your braincase before you dash off next...
Hmm?
HMM!? Th-That... That's a young Cu Sith!
Surprising, isn't it? To find so rare a species this far from its native lands.
No serious injuries, at a glance. Though I daresay it would have fared far worse, if not for this stranger's intervention.
Ghhhrrrl...
You can leave the Cu Sith to us—rest assured, we're professionals. But we'd best move quickly, ere the rodent wakes.
We'll handmend the Cu Sith, but... I can't believe it's here, of all places...
Ghrl...
That's better, isn't it? All patched up.
The cuts weren't deep. You can rest easy.
Allow me a belated introduction. The name's J'yhuh Tia—wayfaring friend of the feral, and tamer of beasts.
And yourself?
Forename, is it? Charmed.
Pshhh... Shkohhh... I'm Loosefrox! Same as Wiseteach, I'm a beastmaster of the Kornago tradition.
Haha, we'll need to explain some of that, it seems.
Beastmasters—that is, practitioners who battle alongside beasts—can be found across the land, although our means and methods differ.
From the former Republic of Landis to Ala Mhigan griffin husbandry... We Kornago beastmasters follow but one of many traditions.
Wiseteach and I are on a journey to seek out new beastfriends in every corner of the world. We were just having a reststop in Gridania when a lad fluttered over, babbling about a bizarre white growlyfluff...
And thus were we guided to you, standing in defense of said “growlyfluff.”
A Cu Sith. Its natural habitat lies far from Eorzea, so how it should come to be here is puzzling.
Given its tender years, I can only assume it was led by the hand of another...
You think a beastmaster brought it here? But surely they wouldn't leavestray it!
No... Till death do we part, after all.
Ghhhrl...
Heh. Interesting.
Cu Sith are naturally wary creatures. Difficult to charm, they say. But this one hasn't taken its eyes off you.
Here, try giving it some meat. Young ones are always hungry.
Cu Sith are carnivores, so I'm sure this growlyfluff will like the meatsnack. Go on!
This little one looks famished. Give it a go.
Gauh?
Ghrlll!
The Cu Sith devours the meat in an instant. It must have gone hungry for some time.
Accustomed to being hand-fed. It may indeed have been someone's familiar.
Try petting it, would you?
Pshhh... The meatsnack I understand, but it'll shy away from touchpets. Just watch.
Calmly, so as not to frighten it. Just a simple pat will do.
Ghhh?
The Cu Sith is staring at you intently. Try petting it.
Ghrlll!♪ Ghrlrlrl!♪
Really!?
Shkohhh... I can't believe it... It trusts you!
Familiars are generally...well, familiar with people, but expressing such faith so quickly is highly unusual.
Either it harbors affection for you, or you simply have a way with beasts. Perhaps both.
Ghhhrlll...
...Do you wish to partner with Forename?
Ghral!
Hahaha, very well.
It seems you've won its favor.
And my favor, to be honest. I can make you into a Kornago beastmaster, if you're keen.
Wh-What!? Wiseteach!
...Ugh. Just don't forget—I'm Wiseteach's number one apprentice!
The decision is yours. You have a willing teacher, should you desire one.
Even amongst the Kornago, Wiseteach is especially devoted to kinbuilding. He may act friendly, but he prefers beastfriends far better than people. ...Like you.
Guhurl!♪
Eager to join our ranks, then? Splendid.
Beastmasters of the Kornago tradition value our familiars beyond all else. Every partnership begins with a hard-won pact.
And when I say “hard-won,” I mean it. No beast will follow you on good faith alone.
You must prove your ability to lead as the wilds have dictated since time immemorial—by asserting dominance through a show of strength.
Once you have won the respect of your opponent, they may choose to forge a pact with you. Thus, will you have captured their favor.
...But a pact does not a tyrant make. When you have no need of your familiar's aid, you must allow the pact's magicks to return them to their natural freedom. The care and respect you show your charge is paramount.
Pshhh... Pacts also leave a magicked brand upon your beastfriend, preventing other beastmasters from snatchstealing them away.
So don't make pacts lightly! No good beastmaster leavestrays a beastfriend!
Upon further inspection, we found this Cu Sith's brand.
...Its vestiges, at least. Which can mean only one thing.
...Your guardian has fallen, yes?
Ghhhlll...
As I suspected. You've suffered much for one so young.
Now then, Forename. Before you stands a Cu Sith at the mercy of a foreign land, with grief heavy upon its heart.
You stood as its savior, and now it turns to you for companionship.
Are you willing to bear the burden of this creature's fate? To protect it, come what may, and to nurture a bond worthy of a beastmaster?
What will you say?
Care to travel the world?
I will lend you my strength, if you will lend me yours.
Let's be beastfriends!
Ghruuul!
Haha! You make a fine match.
In the rare case where two souls naturally connect, a Kornago gourd will serve to solidify your pact. Quite handy, these...
You'll be safe. Have no fear.
And you will need proper kit before we get started. You can have a set of my spares—can't remember if these were tight or baggy. Regardless, forgive the tail hole/Hopefully it won't be too short in the limbs../You may still need to take in the hems../Tail hole included, of course/...Regardless, let's hope it all fits/Feel free to adjust the tail hole.
You'll need a bestiary, too... I'll leave a few hintclues, but only a master of our craft can fill the rest!
Looking forward to training you, Forename. I can tell we're in for an adventure!
You have acquired the Cu Sith gourd. You must use it to complete your pact with the Cu Sith.
Once you have equipped yourself as a beastmaster and finalized your pact with the Cu Sith, speak with J'yhuh Tia.
You have unlocked a new job! You can change to this job at any time by equipping the weapon received from this quest.
When changing jobs, gear sets will allow you to register and save your equipment. You may then use them to switch between jobs instantly without the need to manually equip weapons or equipment.
A button for the Gear Set interface is located in the upper portion of the Character window.
