Ist Imperial Legion

The Ist Imperial Legion was led originally by Quintus van Cinna and acted as the personal guard for the Emperor of the Garlean Empire. Known for their unwavering loyalty to the Emperor and their homeland, they ended up battling against the IIIrd Imperial Legion following the death of Varis zos Galvus when they attempted to take the throne by force for Nerva yae Galvus, the previous Emperor's other son.

When the Telophoroi used the power of Anima to temper the people of Garlemald, the few soldiers of the Ist Legion who were not on the front lines and were within range of a radio were spared the tempering effects of the Primal, and fought their way out of the city with a few citizens, setting up camp in Tertium, a small train station outside the main city. Initially their plan was to wait for the return of the Xth Imperial Legion and launch an attack to take back the city. They were so set on this plan, despite the suffering of both their people and their soldiers, that they even refused the humanitarian aid offered by the Grand Company of Eorzea, choosing instead to take Alphinaud and Alisaie hostage to use as leverage to make the Eorzeans leave their land. Upon learning that the Xth Legion had barely survived attacks against them by the Tempered and had turned to the Eorzeans for the very aid they had refused, they honored the Xth's request to stand down and surrender to the Grand Company. It was at this point that Quintus released the remaining Garlean soldiers from their duty, and took his own life, preferring to die than suffer the "debasement of their land".
