Journal
- Gildon is racking his brain over the gnawed bone.
- Gildon conceds that he has had no luck in deciphering the markings on the gnawed bone. He asks that you invite others around camp to inspect the bone and its markings, hoping a new perspective may offer a hint as to their meaning. Show the gnawed bone to knights around Camp Cloudtop and see what information you can gather.
- You have shown the gnawed bone to knights around Camp Cloudtop, but no one was able to make sense of its markings. When speaking to Fabrellet, however, you did receive a bit of unrelated good news: a shipment of provisions is scheduled to arrive soon. Return the gnawed bone to Gildon and relay to him what you have learned.
- You speak with Gildon of what little information you obtained, along with Fabrellet's news of an upcoming shipment. Never one to deny hi sbelly, Gildon finds himself easily distracted by the news. This in turn leads him to a startling realization: the gnawed bone was used to count days until the next provision shipment, which includes a substantial number of crystals. As he leaves in search of Lady Laniaitte, Gildon asks that you alert Fabrellet of a potential Vanu attack.
- You talk with Fabrellet of Gildon's recent epiphany, but he is incredulous that the Vanu could follow through with such a plan. Despite his disbelief, however, Fabrellet asks you to check on the men unloading provisions aboard the airship. Head to the Protector and see that the provisions are safe and secure.
- You board the Protector to find an injured knight at the feet of a Vanu preparing to make off with the camp's provisions. You make quick work of the would-be raider, but he may have tampered with the crates before you arrived. Examine the crates and make sure nothing is amiss..
- You examine the crate and are relieved to find them undamaged. Report to Fabrellet and assure him the provisions are safe.
- You return to Fabrellet, who is pleased to hear you routed the Vanu. Laniaitte soon arrives with Gildon in tow, and she also thanks you for once again ensuring the safety of Camp Cloudtop. Not wanting to overlook the efforts of her own men, she recognizes Gildon for his diligence which led to uncovering the Vanu's plans. She then offers him a position at another outpost to reward his efforts. Gildon humbly refuses the proposition, stating that all he has ever desired is to restore the spirit of his fellow knights. In lieu of a promotion, Gildon asks they use a portion of the provisions for a meal to celebrate successfully foiling the Vanu's plans. Laniaitte consents to his request, expecting redoubled efforts from Gildon in his future duties.
Dialogue
Accepting the Quest
Gildon: Three sets of fourteen lines... two crossed out entirely, the third halfway... Gildon: Bah, it's no use. I still haven't the foggiest what the markings on this bone could mean. Gildon: Would you show it to the others? Perhaps they will know what to make of it.
Optional Dialogue
Gildon: If we're fortunate, one of the other knights might know what the markings mean—if anything...
Showing the gnawed bone to knights around the camp
Marielle: Can I assist you with something? <Hand Over Gnawed Bone> Marielle: Hmmm... What an odd pattern. I've never seen its like. Marielle: If it holds any meaning, I couldn't tell you. My apologies.
Laniaitte: [Forename], how good to see you. What can I do for you? <Hand Over Gnawed Bone> Laniaitte: ...Seems to me that the scouts were counting something. The question is, what?
Fabrellet: I have no time for idle chatter. <Hand Over Gnawed Bone> Fabrellet: ...This isn't another of Gildon's errands, is it? Fabrellet: I haven't time to waste entertaining his requests. A shipment of provisions should be arriving any moment.
Optional Dialogue
Marielle: If I think of anything, I will let you know.
Fabrellet: I told you, not now. Gildon and his bone are not my concern.
Returning the gnawed bone to Gildon
Gildon: Ah, there you are. Did you learn anything of value? <Hand Over Gnawed Bone> Gildon: A shipment of provisions!? Truly? Oh, how I've longed for a reprieve from salted meats... Gildon: Ahem! Didn't mean to get carried away. It's just that I often find myself counting the days until— Gildon: By the Fury, that's it! The shipment is their target! Gildon: The Vanu scouts must have been spying on our shipments. They know they come once a fortnight! Gildon: But they couldn't care less about the foodstuffs. They mean to seize the crystals and offer them up to the white whale! Gildon: Go and tell Fabrellet what we discovered. I will speak with Lady Laniaitte.
Optional Dialogue
Gildon: We cannot let the Vanu get their hands on those crystals. You must hurry!
Speaking with Fabrellet
Fabrellet: Hm? What is it now? Fabrellet: The Vanu mean to steal our crystals? I can't imagine how they intend to accomplish that. Fabrellet: Well, if you truly believe there is merit to Gildon's claims, by all means, go to the Protector. The provisions are being unloaded as we speak.
Reporting to Fabrellet (Cutscene)
Fabrellet: Well, it would seem that the threat was indeed legitimate...
Laniaitte: Time and again you have risked your life to protect our camp, and for that you have my sincerest thanks. Laniaitte: Ah, yes, you are right. 'Twas Gildon who uncovered the Vanu's plot. Laniaitte: Perhaps a man of your intelligence could better serve House Haillenarte elsewhere. Should it be your desire, I could arrange for a transfer.
Febrellet: Well, well! To think that I might one day salute you!
Gildon: I am honored, Lady Laniaitte. Truly, I am. But with all due respect, I would rather remain in Camp Cloudtop. Gildon: All I want—all I have ever wanted—is to rekindle our men's spirits. To see them walk with their heads held high once more! Gildon: Were I to leave, that dream might never become a reality... Gildon: But, if I may, I do have one small request. Gildon: All this running about has left me quite famished. Might I—ahem, mightwe partake of the recovered provisions? A celebratory meal—or a celebratory snack, perhaps?
Fabrellet: Even now, all you can think of it your stomach?
Laniaitte: A snack—and a few casks of wine besides. That much we can afford to spare, no? Laniaitte: Aye, the men could do with a bit of meat and mead. Make sure they know that Gildon is to thank for it.
Gildon: Th-thank you, Lady Laniaitte! Thank you!
