The Alacran were once a small-time criminal organization, one of many groups that held little to no notoriety amongst the other bandits that roamed Thanalan. Following Leavold leaving the Gladiator's Guild and joining the Alacran, the group quickly grew in stature, becoming more and more well-known and extending their power and reach to the point that many believed that they even held connections within The Syndicate. Their reach had also drawn the attention of the Ascians, who sought to use them to further sow discord and chaos.

The Alacran ran several operations, including smuggling and robbery, as well as security operations such as acting as bodyguards and assassination. When Weggfarr Wideaxe came under investigation by the Pugilist's Guild for the smuggling of Somnus, and Weggfarr challenged Hamon Holyfist to a fight upon learning that he had become weak in his old age, the Alacran were behind the smuggling operation, and attacked the Warrior of Light and Hamon to defend their boss and take the guild out.

The Alacran had also managed to steal the Sultana's crown, and blackmailed the guard, Owyne into exchanging a strange satchel from the Royal Vaults for the crown. Owayne reached out to the Warrior of Light for assistance in making the exchange for the crown. At the location of the exchange, Garibald, the gang's leader, revealed that the satchel contained Trader's Spurn, a deadly alchemical concoction used to zombify the living and was once used to raise an army of the dead. It was at this point that the Sultansworn ambushed the members of the Alacran and managed to defeat them, ending a majority of the gang's actions.

When Leavold placed a bounty upon Aldis when he returned to Ul'dah to finish off the remaining dregs of the Alacran, many members of the Gladiator's Guild were targeted and killed, bringing the guild into the ordeal. When Leavold framed Aldis for an assassination attempt on the Sultana, the Alacran actively interfered with the investigation and attacked the guild constantly to ensure Aldis' demise. However, in their final battle at Highbridge, Aldis and the Warrior of Light defeated Leavold, and many of the remnants of Alacran were captured. Since this time, the organization has seemingly disappeared, with little to no notable movement or actions since.
