Former lady-in-waiting to Nerva yae Galvus's niece at Palatium Novum, Vipsania dus Malicus is the mother of Volusus. Her grandmother was a public servant, and it was through this connection that she met her future husband, Frontinus, who was working as a government official at the time. She had difficulty balancing her roles as royal attendant and mother, but persevered for the sake of her family, and dreamed of the day they might gain permission to live in the warmer climes of Locus Amoenus.
Vipsania was in the midst of her duties at Palatium Novum when the capital descended into chaos, and her mistress shut herself and her servants within the residence. She worried endlessly what might have become of her husband and son, and after she managed to escape the crumbling residence, the forty-four-year-old woman sought refuge from the carnage, and was fortunate to be reunited with her family in the process.
Though her mistress perished while attempting to flee Palatium Novum, Vipsania took pride in her ability to quickly calm the imperial princess's tantrums, and hopes such skills will be needed elsewhere.
