Searchingway is pleased with the initiative's stellar progress.

— In-game description

Notes

This quest will become available around 30 minutes after your server finishes the final upgrade FATE and constructs the Lunar Hopopolis.

Steps

Journal

  • Searchingway is pleased with the initiative's stellar progress.
  • Having set you loose in the Moongate Hub with your exotablet and an instruction to “Go forth,” Searchingway is understandably curious as to your progress. Moments after you give a brief report on your activities, Namingway arrives, eager to share his newly crafted nomenclature in situ.
  • When you indicate your willingness to hear more, Namingway urges you to accompany him first to the starship launch area, whence you will surely be guided hither and thither across Sinus Ardorum.
    • ※You must be accompanied by Namingway to complete this task. Speak with him again should you become separated.
  • You visit the fully constructed Galactic Way with Namingway in tow. Relishing the opportunity to recount the inspiration behind his creative choices, he dives into an explanation of the ship's propulsion system and its aspirational name.
  • Your next destination is Gleamslope, so named in hopes that its sparkle will be visible during journeys to other stars. Notably, the tunnel that passes through it was carved without the use of magic, partly due to the magnetic interference in Sinus Ardorum, but also to test the efficacy of such a method on stars with limited aether.
  • Last on your tour is Weddingway's Bower, a botanical garden lush with crossbred plants. Naturally, Namingway is prepared to explain the appellation given to each in greater detail, should anything in particular stand out to you.
  • As your eyes scan over the hodgepodge garden, Namingway imparts tidbits of interest for each lunar species. From mycophlox to the sabotended, each has been lovingly─if somewhat eclectically─named.
  • Having completed your tour of Sinus Ardorum's sights, you and Namingway report to Searchingway. He offers to guide you to one final vista─one overlooking the entire Moongate Hub. There, he confesses that the resolution of the Final Days left him unmoored from purpose, as it did many other Loporrits, but the scholars of Old Sharlayan inspired him to follow his curious heart. It was this epiphany that gave rise to the Cosmic Exploration Initiative and its headquarters, where a fully functional starship is now in want only of a destination...
    • The next quest will be available once you have completed 100 stellar missions in Sinus Ardorum. You may undertake missions and other cosmic exploration tasks from your exotablet.

Dialogue

Accepting the quest (cutscene)

Searchingway: Hard at work, Forename? Have you had a chance to explore the premises?
What will you say?
> I occasionally look up from my exotablet to avoid crashing into things.
> To maintain maximum efficiency, I go only where there is work to be done.
Searchingway: How wonderful to hear that you love your work so much! Your contributions will play an invaluable role in our future exploits.
Namingway: I have returned! I must say, the base has truly become a sight to behold!
Searchingway: Hasn't it? We owe much to the people of Etheirys for their assistance.
Namingway: Indeed! And it warms my heart to see my kin working together with them.
Namingway: It's good to be back...and to have so many new curiosities to name! Come, Forename, let me introduce you to my latest and greatest nomenclature.
Searchingway: A marvelous idea! You two hop along, by all means.
Searchingway: Trust me, Forename─Namingway never disappoints!

Optional Dialogue

Searchingway: Sounds like Namingway's already hard at work as our designated denominator. Go on! I'll be here when you return.

Speak with Namingway and have him accompany you

Namingway: Let us be on our way, Forename. We'll start with the starship, and from there, tour my most delightful discoveries!
System: Namingway is now accompanying you. Keep him at your side in order to proceed with quest objectives.
System: You can leave Namingway behind by entering a different area, or by speaking with him and selecting the option to part ways.
System: If you wish to have Namingway join you again, return and speak with him at the original location.

Small Talk

Namingway: There's much to cover, so let's waste no time.

Part Ways

Namingway: Urgent business, perhaps? Oh, very well. I shall go and chat with Searchingway while I await your return.
Namingway: Have you seen to your other commitments? Then let us be off!

Accompany Namingway to the starship and then speak with him (cutscene)

Namingway: Witness our starship─the very manifestation of our collective aspirations!
Namingway: Though diminutive in size and propulsion capacity compared to the Ragnarok, it is nevertheless heir to its legacy, for data collected during the journey to Ultima Thule was the basis for our craft's ability to ride stellar currents at the speed of light.
Namingway: In anticipation of its future voyages across the cosmos, it shall be known as the Galactic Way!
Namingway: May it carry us into the unknown, and beyond our wildest dreams.
Namingway: And now I say that we venture further afield. Pray accompany me to Gleamslope! The outer edge by Gleamrift will do.

Optional Dialogue

Discuss the rainbow crystal

Namingway: Are you familiar with the rainbow crystal in the center of the hub? Though it is slightly different than those in the burrow, I see no reason to change its appellation. It's simple, clear, and has the word “rainbow”! What's not to like?
Namingway: ...Anyway, such crystals regulate gravity and oxygen levels, allowing us to maintain ideal living environs for the people of Etheirys. I'm told they can be recalibrated for use on any star we come across!

Discuss the Cosmoliner

Namingway: Here in Sinus Ardorum, magnetism disrupts any attempt to attune to aether currents. Our solution? A public propulsion system─the Cosmoliner!
Namingway: I admit that I was initially uneasy about hurtling through the sky on a tiny platform with few apparent safety features, but now I find it as refreshing as a spring breeze!

Accompany Namingway to Gleamslope and then speak with him

Namingway: Have you heard about the tunnel they carved through this mountain? It was done entirely by machinery─no magicks at all! A valuable experiment in anticipation of stars where aether is scarce.
Namingway: And just look at that luster... That's where I drew my inspiration for “Gleamslope,” naturally.
Namingway: It may be little more than a twinkle, but when we're out there traversing the cosmos, I do so hope we'll see it shining back at us.
Namingway: Our dream of reaching the stars beyond is what inspired this project to begin with─and the name “Sinus Ardorum” stands as testament to that longing. I rather resent that Garlean has become the standard for names of lunar features in my absence...but inconsistency would be even worse!
Namingway: There's so much more I could show you...but I'll settle for one last jaunt. To Weddingway's Bower!

Accompany Namingway to Weddingway's Bower and then speak with him

Namingway: Here we have the botanical gardens, where Weddingway is attempting to determine whether we can utilize the rainbow crystals to cultivate life on other stars.
Namingway: Fortunately for us, the experiments have resulted in a delightful array of crossbreeds. See for yourself!

Observe plants from the designated vantage point while accompanied by Namingway (cutscene)

System: The following event cannot be skipped. You may wish to cancel any pending Duty Finder registrations.
System: Observe the plants in Weddingway's Bower? (yes/no)
Namingway: Looking at it now, I can scarcely believe this area was once a barren waste...but I digress.
Namingway: Point out anything that catches your eye, and I shall be happy to expound on the particulars!

Namingway

Namingway: By all means, take your time. This garden is worth a look!

Vaguely Familiar Cactus

Namingway: Long and blue with a flower on top... Reminds you of a lunatender, does it not? Indeed, the resemblance is uncanny.
Namingway: Some say lunatenders evolved from Etheirys sabotenders that adapted to the moon's environs. Perhaps these, in turn, evolved from lunatenders.
Namingway: Unlike their alleged cousins, however, these are unmistakably flora, not fauna. I've named them the sabotended to mourn their lost autonomy.

Spongy Pink Carpet

Namingway: The regolith that covers the moon's surface is made up of particles too fine for plants to lay roots. To combat this, we've been experimenting with an alchemical soil treatment.
Namingway: This improved soil is to be known as remediated regolith, and as you can see, it's already growing a layer of pink moss!
Namingway: For now, Weddingway's Bower is the only place to witness this botanical miracle. But should we succeed in fostering more types of plant growth, we may be able to grow entire farms on other stars!

Bright Blue Bush

Namingway: Believe it or not, that leafy-looking bush is a type of fungus known as turquoise shag.
Namingway: I'm told its peculiar glow activates in response to electromagnetic waves, effectively rendering those energies visible to the naked eye.
Namingway: Sharlayan researchers have even begun to debate the possibility of an information wavelength that exists beyond our ken─all because of this fungus! Fascinating!

Massive Mushroom Mound

Namingway: That sizable specimen on the cliff? Yes, you may recognize it from Lovingway's Darlings in Mare Lamentorum. I call it a lovingpuff!
Namingway: Fearsome though it may appear, I assure you it is entirely benign. When it senses an animal's approach, it lets out a puff of spores to say hello!
Namingway: ...Mind you, those spores are wont to hitch rides on the unsuspecting, and rather quick to germinate besides. I could have sworn Weddingway wasn't planning to plant any...

Tree with Exploding Blooms?

Namingway: Incredible, isn't it? That is no tree, but in fact a magnificent mushroom transplanted from Mare Lamentorum─and henceforth known as the mycophlox!
Namingway: Inspired by the hot summers of Etheirys, its name means “fungal flame.” When you gaze up at its gills, does it not bring to mind fireworks blooming in the night sky?
Namingway: With further refinement, perhaps we could even teach this species to pop and crackle like its namesake! What a sight it would be, amid all these stars...
Namingway: Have you had a good look, Doctor, or would you like more time?
What will you say?
> I've seen it all!
> A little more time, I think.
< A little more time, I think. >
Namingway: Certainly! You may peruse the plants for as long as you like. Let me know when you've finished.
Namingway: Did you get a proper look at everything? I do hope you've enjoyed the scenery─and its official terminology!
What will you say?
> I came, I saw, I marveled.
> More... I need more!
< I've seen it all! >
< I came, I saw, I marveled. >
Namingway: Wonderful! It has been a delight to show you our new varietals.
Namingway: When it comes to my process, observation is of vital importance, of course─but a well-designed appellation can often establish cognitive links where physical appearance alone could not.
Namingway: Given a proper name, what once was nebulous moves into the light for all to see. A discovery named is a discovery shared!
Namingway: Greater awareness, in turn, invites research, prompting further discoveries. In other words─my nomenclature may one day change the world!
Namingway: And with each term I craft, I feel a spark of joy that reignites my passion all over again. Truly, I've never been gladder to call myself Namingway.
Namingway: You know, when Searchingway first arrived, this region was merely an expanse of unknowns.
Namingway: Then you and I turned up, and now look at it! Every last ilm identified!
Namingway: Yet this is far from the final frontier. We must continue the initiative, that we might one day put a name to each and every star in the sky.
Namingway: Oh, how invigorating! Searchingway will surely want to share in our enthusiasm. Let us return to the hub!

Optional Dialogue

Namingway: Thank you ever so much for your company. I'm certain Searchingway will be interested to hear your observations!

Speak with Searchingway

Searchingway: Had a nice look around, I hope? Isn't it all just fantastic?
Namingway: Would that you had joined us, Searchingway. We toured the places I named and waxed philosophical about the virtues of sharing knowledge─all in all, a lovely time!
Searchingway: Oh, you're speaking my language! Come to think of it, there's one more place you could visit...if you're so inclined?
Namingway: You have my attention!
Namingway: Shall we, Forename?

Cutscene

Searchingway: Here it is: my favorite vista!
Namingway: Why, we can see the entire hub from here!
Searchingway: Precisely! Whenever my motivation starts to wane, this sight reminds me of the dream we're chasing together.
Searchingway: When the Final Days were averted, it was a joyous occasion. Yet we Loporrits had lost our purpose─and for some, the will to carry on.
Searchingway: My role was to seek out a new star for us to call home...but it was decided that no exodus would come to pass.
Searchingway: While my hunger for worlds unknown and sights unseen remained, I feared that there was no meaning to be found in it.
Searchingway: Yet in Old Sharlayan, I saw knowledge given unexpected purpose as a new field of study was born.
Searchingway: If the people of Etheirys can pursue knowledge without knowing where they'll end up, I thought, then why not me? Curiosity needs no justification!
Searchingway: If my heart yearns for the great expanse, then so be it. To the stars I'll go!
Namingway: Remarkable how far that epiphany has taken you, Searchingway. Look at all that your initiative has built!
Searchingway: The Galactic Way awaits on its launch pad. Now we only need the coordinates of our first destination...
Searchingway: When we're ready for liftoff, will you follow me to the stars?

If you have completed 100 stellar missions

System: As you have completed 100 stellar missions in Sinus Ardorum, you are eligible to undertake a additional quest.
System: Seek out Mumukko to learn of ways you might further benefit the initiative.

Otherwise

System: Complete 100 stellar missions in Sinus Ardorum to become eligible to undertake an additional quest.
System: Check your exotablet for available missions and other means by which to contribute to the Cosmic Exploration Initiative.

Optional Dialogue

Searchingway: We're still calculating the exact coordinates for the Galactic Way's voyage, but once the preparations are in place, I invite you to embark with us...into the great unknown!
Namingway: Such a marvelous moon base─I can scarcely believe the magnitude of it! Yet I know that far more awaits us beyond the furthest reaches of the stars...
