Journal
- Ruvoll Ja seems stunned by the gainery's growth.
- ※The difficulty of this quest will be synced to your current level.
- While the gainery is steadily making progress, Anggir is quick to detect a pest infestation in the burgeoning harvest. She explains the need for a companion plant to ward off the unwanted insects, and after some deliberation Ruvoll Ja suggests introducing branchbearers to the farm. These seedkin resemble birds but are, in truth, plants that possess their own techniques for warding off pests. Petitioning your help in confronting such a specimen, Ruvoll Ja sets off for northwest of Golmajiik Grove.
- ※Please note that the difficulty of this quest has been synced to your current level. Furthermore, you may not proceed with a class or job that is different from when you accepted this quest.
- You regroup with Ruvoll Ja and discuss strategy. The Doppro knows techniques that can tame a wild branchbearer, and he would like to lure one over with something appealing to the creature. You set out to gather what he needs with the hope that the impending confrontation does not result in violence.
- Ruvoll Ja masterfully befriends a branchbearer with sweet words and sparse magicks. He accompanies his new charge back to Gok Golma, where Anggir is no doubt anxiously awaiting your arrival.
- The branchbearer takes to its new home swimmingly, unleashing a shower of protective aether upon you and your companions. With the aid of these creatures, the pests plaguing Gok Golma's young plants recede, proving the seedkin to be deeply beneficial to the garden. Still, this is but the first of many hurdles the gainery must overcome if it is to bring real change to Mamook, and your continued cooperation will be paramount to its success.
Dialogue
Gok Golma
Ruvoll Ja: [Forename], did you see? The plants Anggir brought from Sharlayan are growing. They're actually growing!
Anggir: All is going to plan so far, yes, but overconfidence begets error. In truth, we've detected evidence of harmful insects upon our crops recently.
Ruvoll Ja: Insects? Can't we just stamp them out?
Anggir: If only it were so simple. Every one you find represents another hidden ten, another hundred—indeed, we may be facing an infestation of thousands if left unchecked.
Anggir: Which is why we must find a companion plant for our crops posthaste.
Anggir: As the name suggests, companion plants support each other's growth in myriad ways, not least of all in deterring pests.
Anggir: While the samples I've brought with me should thrive in this particular aetheric environment, their efficacy against local fauna has yet to be tested. We would be wise to pick a local variety of plant for the job instead.
Ruvoll Ja: In other words, we need a plant native to these forest that will repel those insects.
Anggir: Precisely. Might you have any suggestions?
Player Options: What will you say?
- Ja Tiika bananas?
- What about trees of living light?
- How about some kind of seedkin?
Ja Tiika bananas?
- Ruvoll Ja: Maybe...though I feel I've heard Kageel Ja complain about bug problems for najool before, so it's hard to say...
What about trees of living light?
- Anggir: You mean those large trees that cling to meteorites, correct? I'm uncertain how we'd replicate the phenomenon near our gainery...not to mention the time it would take for such trees to reach maturity...
How about some kind of seedkin?
- Anggir: I hadn't even considered the possibility, but such a creature may be exactly what we need. Surely local seedkin have adapted to repel insects that plague their own bodies.
Ruvoll Ja: What about a branchbearer? It looks like a bird, but it's actually an ambulatory plant. I've heard it emits these great bursts of energy to ward off pests.
Anggir: Sounds like it may be well worth our time to capture one. Can you do it?
Ruvoll Ja: Leave it to me. We Doppro are used to taming all sorts of beasts, not just wivres.
Ruvoll Ja: But, on the off chance that the creature becomes aggressive, I'll need someone to back me up in a fight. Will you come along?
Anggir: Then I'll leave the matter to you both. In the meantime, I'll investigate the scope of the damage done by these insects.
Ruvoll Ja: The sooner we return, the better. Let's meet up northwest of Golmajiik Grove. We're sure to find branchbearers there.
Returning to Anggir
Anggir: A seedkin in the shape of a bird? How curious... I simply must take readings of its aetheric emissions!
Catching up to Ruvoll Ja
Ruvoll Ja: There should be plenty of branchbearers around here. They mimic birds to attract carnivores, then leech energy from their would-be predators.
Ruvoll Ja: In theory, either of us could act as a decoy to lure one over, but that may well end in violence. Taming creatures is about trust, after all, not physical dominance.
Ruvoll Ja: I'd like to make it an offering instead. Something rich in the energies it likes. Are you up to the task?
Ruvoll Ja:
- (for Miner) Excellent! Then could you bring me some glowing mineral water from Cenote Neyozzote? Contact with the meteorites there should make it particularly potent.
- (for Botanist) Excellent! Then could you bring me some glowing seeds from Cenote Neyozzote? Contact with the meteorites there should make them particularly potent.
- (for Fisher) Excellent! Then could you bring me some glowing waterweed from Cenote Moxutural? Contact with the meteorites there should make it particularly potent.
- (for Fisher) Any old golden stonefly nymph should be able to reel some in.
Ruvoll Ja: While you tend to that, I'll scout out a good candidate.
Handing over the offering
Ruvoll Ja: Did you find something our branchbearer might like?
Ruvoll Ja: Even richer in energies than I imagined! The rest you can leave to me—I'll show you traditional Doppro taming at its best!
Ruvoll Ja: Here it comes!
Branchbearer: Gyu, gyuweee!
Ruvoll Ja: There, there, little one.
Ruvoll Ja: I'm glad you accepted my gift. It represents the bond we share as beings of this forest.
Ruvoll Ja: All's well that ends well, as you can see!
Ruvoll Ja: ...Not to say I emerged completely unscathed, but so it goes sometimes.
Ruvoll Ja: Once it realized I meant no harm, we came to an understanding.
Ruvoll Ja: The Doppro magicks I cast on what you brought me certainly didn't hurt my chances either.
Ruvoll Ja: Anyway, let's have Anggir take a look and see if our new friend will benefit our garden.
Gok Golma
Speaking to Branchbearer
Branchbearer: Gyu, gyuweee! Gyuweee!
Narrator: The branchbearer seems calm and regards you with a friendly gaze.
Speaking to Ruvoll Ja
Ruvoll Ja: Thanks to your offering, this little one will hardly leave my side!
Turning in quest
Anggir: I've studied my share of seedkin, but I've never seen anything quite like this specimen. It's a marvel!
Ruvoll Ja: I hope it can help with our pest problem...
Branchbearer: Gyuweee, gyuweee!
Ruvoll Ja: Well, it's made itself right at home!
Anggir: An aetheric emission so potent you can see it!? No doubt this is an instinctual measure taken against irritants.
Anggir: And given its amicable behavior, it seems keen on protecting us as well. If we can direct its attentions to our gainery, I daresay the plague of insects won't stand a chance!
Ruvoll Ja: Will you help protect our little garden?
Branchbearer: Geee!
Ruvoll Ja: Haha, I'll take that as a yes. I'll have my colleagues tame more of these fine creatures.
Anggir: Wonderful. Let us coordinate our efforts with the branchbearers to create a hospitable environment for our crops.
