Journal

  • Krile has regained some composure.
  • As fate would have it, Krile has been reunited with her mother and father, Alayla and Robor. While uncertain how she should interact with her long-lost parents, with your support and encouragement, she sets off for the heatwells to make the most of this chance to be with them.
  • Krile and her parents' initial attempts to get acquainted prove awkward. As you observe their struggles, inspired by her experiences with xibruq pibil, Wuk Lamat offers to bring them food in a bid to break the ice. Alayla requests something cold, and you turn to your comrades to discuss options.
  • As this is a special moment, it is decided that you will look for a treat that will leave an impression. The search begins with asking locals for recommendations, and you make your way to leynode pyro to question the Endless there.
  • The answers you receive point you to a stall southwest of the leynode, which apparently offers something called gold star ice cream. Without delay, you set forth in search of it.
  • You arrive at the stall to find Wuk Lamat also eyeing it. The ice cream looks duly impressive if cumbersome, but confident in your transporting skills, you volunteer to deliver all three servings to Krile and her parents.
  • You have picked up the servings of gold star ice cream. Stepping quickly but lightly, you begin making your way back to Opal Springs.
  • You deliver the ice cream intact, but even with the delightful treats, the awkward air persists between Krile and her parents. Thankfully, the ice is finally broken when G'raha Tia makes an artful intervention, and genuine smiles manifest upon the faces of all present.
At the meal's conclusion, Krile's parents tell you about interdimensional fusion. The key for invoking the power is a relic that belonged to their people, the Milalla, who employed it in the distant past to flee to another reality when a great calamity froze their homeland. When lightning then threatened this world, Robor and Alayla attempted to invoke the power once more, but were unable to do so. In desperation, they agreed to cooperate with Preservation only to discover that the order sought to siphon aether from other worlds. This led to the couple's defection, and in the course of fleeing pursuit, they brought their only daughter to the Source to keep her safe. So it is that Krile comes to know the truth of her origin, and in order to learn more about the Milalla, you decide to visit the cavern inside the volcano, where their ancient homeland has been recreated.
  • Standing at the entrance to the cavern, Krile expresses her heartfelt gratitude to you all. Thanks to your intervention, she was able to not only bond with her parents, but know the joy of sharing a meal with them besides.

Dialogue

To think that Krile would actually meet her parents...
Miracles really do happen here... I'm happy for Krile.
Alright. I feel a little calmer now.
I thought myself prepared for the possibility, but to actually come face-to-face with my parents was overwhelming.
And having been parted from them as an infant, I'm not sure how to behave...
Take your time. After everything that has happened, you deserve to do so.
You have many things to say to one another. Now you can say them.
Indeed. This is a meeting to be cherished. Just do what comes natural, eh?
Thank you, everyone. I'll make the most of our time together...
Let us keep an eye on things for now.
You could carve the tension with a knife...
You're all our daughter's friends, yes? Thank you for bringing her to us.
That we should meet our daughter again here of all places...
It's such a strange feeling to be reunited with you beyond death...
Your companions—what are they called?
Oh dear, I'd completely forgotten to introduce them!
Over here is Wuk Lamat, Vow of Resolve of Tuliyollal. Beside her is G'raha Tia, my colleague in the Students of Baldesion.
And this is Forename, an adventurer—though that hardly does her/him justice. She/He is the most dependable of friends, to whom I owe my life.
My word. We clearly have a great deal of thanks to give. Don't we, dear?
Oh, uh...yes! Yes, we do! Our heartfelt gratitude to you all.
Not the smoothest of beginnings, is it...?
If only we had some xibruq pibil to ease the way, am I right?
Wait... That's not a bad idea.
Hey, are you hungry? We could bring you something to eat if you like?
Oh...uh, thank you, but we're fine.
You know, it's quite hot here by the springs.
Something cold would be lovely.
Understood! We'll fetch you all treats that'll help cool you off!
I wouldn't want to be a bother, but...
Think nothing of it. This is what friends are for.
Thank you. We shall look forward to the cool treats.
As we've learned, good food brings people together—even sworn foes!
You're very considerate.
I feel like a bundle of nerves...
Thank you, Forename. We look forward to seeing what you bring.
That was well conceived, Wuk Lamat.
Hehe, just putting what I learned in Yak T'el to use.
If I had to mention a potential problem, however, it is that food here tastes like nothing to the living.
Seriously!? I had no idea...
Still, it appears to be perfectly enjoyable for the Endless. In going along with the idea, Krile likely understands this.
It may not instantly break the ice, but I'm hopeful that it will help to thaw it.
So, shall we split up and look for what Alayla requested? Something cold, ironically.
This is supposed to be a special moment, so I say we go with the best treat there is—one that'll leave an impression! The locals ought to be able to recommend something.
If you wanted to ask people near the aetheryte, Forename, G'raha Tia and I will do the same elsewhere.
Hm-hm, what snack to have today...
Eh? You want a recommendation for something tasty and cold? This stall doesn't have that sort of thing, I'm afraid.
But speaking of something cold, I could use an iced drink with my snack. I think I'll get a coffee. Actually, a tea might be better, or even a lemonade...
Ah, but I can't go past a beer! Yes, let's make it a white beer today.
Actually, a dark one might be better. Or would it...?
A cold treat that will leave an impression? That's a difficult one.
Asyle Volcane is home to fighters, so the food here is mostly the hearty and filling kind...
Ah, right! There's a popular stall to the southwest that might just have what you're after. Why don't you go and take a look?
I've been curious about that stall myself, but I haven't checked it out yet. It could be just the thing, though.
Whew... After a long, hot soak like that, I'm going to need a gold star ice cream.
What? You don't know gold star ice cream? It's only the most popular treat here in Asyle Volcane!
While it's a little tricky to tuck into, you can't come here and not try it. There's a stall just to the southwest, so you have no excuses!
You'll understand when you see the ice cream, but you need to handle it with care. Wouldn't want to have all that delicious goodness become a puddle on the ground!
Based on what you learned from the locals, the stall to the southwest seems promising.
Hello there! Would you care for our famous gold star ice cream?
Heh, so you're here too. Everyone I spoke with recommended gold star ice cream.
Those colorful balls stacked on top of each other—that'd be the ice cream, I take it?
I can see the appeal, but it's going to be hard to deliver it intact. We need three servings, so let's get G'raha to help carry one.
What will you say?
Just leave it to me!
You're talking to a transportation expert.
You mean you can do it alone!?
Well, there do seem to be vessels for carrying three... Are you sure about this?
Great. They're definitely safer in your hands than in mine.
I'll go and tell G'raha everything's taken care of. See you back at the springs!
Hello there! Would you care for our famous gold star ice cream?
Alright, three servings coming right up!
Here you are! You'll want to be quick so it doesn't melt, but also careful so it doesn't collapse. Good luck, and enjoy!
Deliver the ice cream to Krile before the time runs out.
You will have two minutes and five seconds to complete the task. Should you fail, return to the starting location and begin anew.
Oh dear, the ice cream has collapsed, has it? Not to worry, I'll fix it for you!
Thank you, Forename. We look forward to seeing what you bring.
Speak with the ice cream vendor and deliver the ice cream to Krile before the time runs out.
Goodness me, what an amazing-looking treat! Thank you so much, Forename!
That went really well! And you, Forename—your sense of balance is something else!
Though it had no taste, the ice cream was a treat for the eyes. I'm glad it served to ease the tension.
You all have good hearts. Our daughter is fortunate to have friends like you.
You've gone through much trouble for us.
Forename, Raha, Lamaty'i...
With your help, I was able to not only bond with my parents, but know the joy of sharing a meal with them besides.
For that, and so much else, I thank you.

Cutscene 1

Start of voiced cutscene.
Never did we imagine that such a reward awaited us. Isn't that so, Robor?
Uh...y-yes.
Oh, don't mind your father. Like me, he's still getting used to seeing you all grown up.
This is just excruciating...
Yes, well. A twenty-year blank is not so quickly filled.
Even so... There's got to be something we can do...
You know, I think I might have an idea.
Raha...?
What is he doing...?
[AMUSED LAUGHTER “Hehe... Hehehe!”]
[BITING INTO ICE CREAM EXERT]
Y-You needn't force yourself...
It doesn't taste of anything to the living, surely?
No, no. It's delicious.
I mean it. I've never tasted anything so good.
It really does taste so much better when we're all together.
Yes, indeed.
I'm suddenly craving dessert. How about you?
Truly, we've never felt so happy in all our lives. We don't know how to thank you.
But at the very least, we can give you some answers. You've risked so much and come so far for them, after all.
'Tis our understanding you were researching a power called interdimensional fusion. Will you tell us about it?
To begin at the very beginning, there is a legend passed down by our people, the Milalla.
In the distant past, we abided in a different world. Our homeland was a paradise of eternal summer. The flowers were always in bloom.
Until, that is, a great calamity turned the very seas to ice. As those around them froze to death, our ancestors looked to a mighty relic for salvation. By its power they opened a portal, and used it to flee to another reality.
The key is none other than that relic, and it has been in the safekeeping of our people since time immemorial.
Yes. When lightning threatened this world, we attempted to use the key to flee again like our ancestors once did.
Alas, no matter what we tried, we couldn't invoke its power. We had all but given up when Preservation approached us with an offer of partnership.
Desperate as we were, we accepted their help...only to later discover their ulterior motive: to plunder other worlds of aether.
Seeking to frustrate their plans, we defected from the order. And as their agents closed in on us, we seized control of the prototype gate and activated it.
What followed, you already know. We sent our daughter and the key through the portal, entrusting them to the men we encountered.
You were born with an unusual gift, you see. Upon learning of it, Preservation sought to subject you to experiments.
An unusual gift... The Echo, I daresay.
Our people, the Milalla. Are there any ways I might learn more about them?
There are—such as visiting the cavern inside the volcano. Our ancient homeland has been recreated there.
While it's intended to serve as an entertaining diversion, it ought to teach you a thing or two about our history and traditions.
May we go there? Selfish though it may be, I should love to learn of my ancestors.
Of them...and of the legacy my parents entrusted to me.
Sure, by all means. As it happens, it's on the way to our destination.
[BITING INTO ICE CREAM EXERT]
[BITING INTO ICE CREAM EXERT]
[HAPPY CHUCKLE “Hehe”]
[BITING INTO ICE CREAM EXERT]
[BITING INTO ICE CREAM EXERT]
End of cutscene.
