Here did beat the heart of the Empire─a district pulsing with political, financial, and military authority. Yet these institutions, which once sought dominion over the world, now lie in ruins. Any structure not outright destroyed in the war of succession has been torn apart, its materials cannibalized for the construction of the Tower of Babil.

Landmarks

One of the young Solus's first acts upon becoming Dictator, supreme commander of Garlemald, was to erect a shining landmark in the center of the capital. Once serving as the proud "new palace" of the royal family, the towers now sit scarred and broken amongst the piles of rubble.

— Encyclopaedia Eorzea Volume III, p. 143

Open plazas such as this one were once popular as a place to gather and relax. Now it lies eerily vacant, a silent witness to the devastation of the capital.

— Encyclopaedia Eorzea Volume III, p. 143

It was in this square that Emperor Solus inspected his troops before embarking upon his second campaign into the Far East. The imperial legions were ultimately successful in their subjugation of the Kingdom of Dalmasca, and officials celebrated the grand victory by transforming the parade ground into a commemorative public park.

Endwalker Sightseeing Log 31: Forum Solius

Once the center of government for the Republic of Garlemald, this stately building would later house the Emperor's advisory council. Within its walls, countless campaigns were planned and executed─decisions that would result in untold bloodshed, and bring ever greater prosperity to the Empire.

With advances in technology came the construction of new architecture of impressive scale. For the Garleans, the sight of magitek vehicles speeding along this elevated thoroughfare was but a hint of better things to come, whilst provincial conscripts were left awestruck by the Empire's engineering marvels.

— Encyclopaedia Eorzea Volume III, p. 143

Processed and purified, water from the city's outskirts was pumped into this canal after its ceruleum content had been removed. It is said that engineers once burned large quantities of that same ceruleum to prevent the waterway from freezing over.
