Magnai, the Khan of the Oronir Tribe

The Oronir Tribe are one of the fifty tribes on the Azim Steppe, and are generally considered the most powerful tribes in the region. They are often the leaders of the Xaela who call the Steppe their home, as they are most often the winners of the Nadaam.

History

One of the fiercest tribes on the Azim Steppe, and a dominant tribe from the southeast corner. While most Xaela believe themselves to be descended from the Dusk Mother, the Oronir draw their heritage to the Dawn Father, and believe it their duty to watch over all who reside on the Steppe. As direct descendants of Azim, they hold the belief they are superior to other tribes, and it is their right to rule-a point that most other tribes contest.

Their leader is not determined by bloodline or heritage, but through the Azim Bokh, a wrestling match, where the strongest is declared the most "radiant", and is the leader of the Oronir. The ruler is then given the Scale of the Father, a greataxe believed to be forged from a fallen scale from the Dawn Father after a duel from the Dusk Mother.

Notable Members

Magnai: (Pictured Right) The most radiant of the Oronir, and unparalleled in combat and hunting. He is their leader, or "Khan". Believing actions mean more than words, he has many incredible feats to his name, leading some to look at him as a heroic figure. He holds his heritage in high regard, and therefore the beliefs of how the Oronir find their mates. Because of this belief and high standard, Magnai struggles with finding a partner.

Esugen: Having never won a single match in the Azim Bokh, he is believed to be "the least radiant". Because of this, he is often left behind at the encampment when the others go off hunting, which is ideal, as this led to him discovering his passion for cooking. He is the leading authority on Oronir cuisine, and is even able to replicate other tribe's dishes.

Baatu: The right hand of the most radiant, and the most devout. He refuses to go to places where the light of the Dawn Father cannot reach, like the depths of the Azim Khaat. Due to their shared faith and long-enduring friendship, he is comfortable speaking openly and plainly to Magnai. Also like Magnai, he believes the Oronir to be the superior tribe, however he is willing to recognize one's worth.

Lore

The strongest tribe in the region, the Oronir currently occupy the Dawn Throne, having won the right to do so through their triumph in previous Naadams. Though the Mol claimed victory in the most recent of these contests, they had no interest in relocating, and so the Oronir were free to remain where they were.

History

Historically, the Oronir have been one of the dominant tribes in the southeast corner of the Steppe. Unlike most Xaela, who believe themselves the children of the Dusk Mother, the Oronir trace their lineage to the Dawn Father, and believe it is their duty to watch over and keep the Xaela safe. As direct descendants of the avatar of Azim, they believe themselves superior to other tribes—though said tribes are not wont to agree. Nevertheless, theirs are formidable warriors who have claimed the ovoo countless times in the Naadam, including the one prior to the Mol’s most recent victory.

The hierarchy within the tribe is determined through the Azim Bakh, a wrestling competition which pits brother against brother. The strongest and therefore most worthy is then declared the most radiant brother and leader of the Oronir. [1]
