Journal
- As neither memories nor records of Gulool Ja's mother may exist, G'raha Tia suggests splitting up to question the greatest number of people. He and the others will ask around Solution Nine, and you will gather information by speaking with the residents of the outskirts.
- While the people you question have no direct knowledge of the Mamool Ja you seek, their stories contain tidbits of Zoraal Ja's history that imply a larger picture with missing pieces. The best course of action would be to return to the Backroom and see if the others can help make the picture whole.
- The collected stories of you and your comrades reveal that nearly twenty years ago, Zoraal Ja began visiting a settlement located in a region known as Yuweyawata, where he once battled and defeated a tural vidraal, together with a cadre of Landsguard─one of whom was a female Mamool Ja. This settlement may have also been the site of clandestine research, and Shale determines its location by analyzing the history of supplies sent from Everkeep. With your next destination determined, Gulool Ja is eager to set forth and learn more of his family.
- With a glimmer of excitement in his eyes, Gulool Ja says he is ready to cross the lake. The young king will stay close behind as you cut a path through the long-forgotten facility.
※To enlist your companion NPCs for this duty, speak with them near the entrance or access Duty Support via the main menu. Use the Duty Finder if you wish to complete the instance alongside fellow players.
- Besting both feral beasts and inhuman abominations, you traverse the derelict facility, slowly uncovering its terrible purpose. At the end of your path, you come upon a storm raging over a deep canyon, and as you draw near the winds cease as a howl resounds in your ears. Breaking free from its prison, a tural vidraal descends from the skies to wreak havoc upon the land. Yet even such boundless fury is no match for you and your allies, and after a fierce battle, the beast lies broken and dying.
※In the event that you leave Yuweyawata, you may return via the driftdowns.
- As you watch the tural vidraal breathe its final breath, the Echo imparts to you a vision of its past. In it, Zoraal Ja approves Kanilokka's proposal to experiment with the transference of human souls into bestial vessels, and after the researcher departs, Zoraal Ja is joined by a Mamool Ja woman. Addressing her as Teeshal Ja, the King of Resolve commands her to aid the project, and she accepts on one condition: that should the work bear fruit, she is permitted to take what she herself desires most of all. The vision ends on this vague note, and after you share its contents with the others, it is concluded that Teeshal Ja may be the woman you have been looking for. Emboldened by this new revelation, Gulool Ja wishes to search the facility further.
- With the facility now devoid of threats, you are free to search for clues of Teeshal Ja's background. Gaining access to the upper floor of the observatory would be prudent at this juncture...
Dialogue
Accepting the Quest
G'raha Tia: Assuming neither memories nor records of Gulool Ja's mother remain, we must cast as wide a net as possible. I suggest we split into groups. G'raha Tia: Forename─if you could make inquiries outside in the outskirts, the rest of us will do the same in Solution Nine.
Gather information in the outskirts
Middle-aged Tonawawta
Middle-aged Tonawawta: Sorry, but I've never heard of a Mamool Ja woman living in these parts, much less one connected to Zoraal Ja. Middle-aged Tonawawta: You might have better luck talking to the people over at a Tonawawtan settlement to the north of Everkeep, in a place called Yuweyawata. Middle-aged Tonawawta: The Resilient Son won their loyalty when he saved them from some crisis or another, or so the story goes. If I remember correctly, their chief's name was Kanilokka.
System: Your exchange with the middle-aged Tonawawta has taught you about “Zoraal Ja's devoted.”
Chatty Shetona
Chatty Shetona: A Mamool Ja woman? Hmmm, their people have never been a common sight around here... Chatty Shetona: Why, the last time I saw one would have been before the dome came down over our heads. Chatty Shetona: She was among an entourage of Landsguard that was dispatched here. I assume they all returned to Tuliyollal after their mission. Chatty Shetona: But if any remained, I suppose they could've been trapped in here with the rest of us.
System: Your exchange with the chatty Shetona has taught you about “a Mamool Ja woman.”
Optional Dialogue
Chatty Shetona: I haven't seen the Mamool Ja woman or any of the other Landsguard since then, but I suppose it's possible some of them were trapped here with the rest of us.
Fresh-faced Tonawawta
Fresh-faced Tonawawta: You're looking for a Mamool Ja woman? Fresh-faced Tonawawta: Oh, Gulool Ja's mother... I can't help you there, I'm afraid. Fresh-faced Tonawawta: I only know a little about Zoraal Ja, and then only what my father told me. Fresh-faced Tonawawta: He said that before the dome cut us off from the outside world, a tural vidraal had appeared and was terrorizing the region. Fresh-faced Tonawawta: In response, Zoraal Ja assembled a party of warriors, and with them confronted and felled the beast. It was interesting to hear of the king's feat in the past.
System: Your exchange with the fresh-faced Tonawawta has taught you about “a battle with a tural vidraal.”
Optional Dialogue
Fresh-faced Tonawawta: What a battle it must've been, between the king's men and the tural vidraal. And all without regulators, too...
Optional Dialogue
Gulool Ja: Ah, you're back too! I told Shale all about your search.
Krile: Zoraal Ja rarely made public appearances, so the people had no idea how he spent most of his time. Yet I believe therein lies the key to the answers we seek.
G'raha Tia: Solution Nine is vast indeed. Even with the teleporters, we could cover but a small portion of it.
Wuk Lamat: I'm sorry, but I couldn't find out anything useful. None of the people I questioned had heard of a Mamool Ja woman before...
Alisaie: Lamaty'i didn't seem to have much luck. How did you fare?
Alphinaud: While I failed to learn anything directly related to Gulool Ja's mother, I did find information which may shed some light upon Zoraal Ja.
Report your findings to Shale in the Backroom
Shale: Gulool Ja has told me all. We've previously tried to track down records of his mother, but came up empty-handed. Shale: With everyone's help, hopefully we can get somewhere this time...
Shale: Ah, so you spoke with quite a few different people as well. Let's combine all our findings and see what conclusions we might draw.
Cutscene
Shale: So, Zoraal Ja brought a retinue of Landsguard to Yyasulani, among whom was a female Mamool Ja. Shale: His mission was to rid the region of a tural vidraal, and I believe it safe to say that that was the “crisis” in Yuweyawata he resolved.
Wuk Lamat: If some of his troops stuck around for a time, perhaps to assist the villagers with recovery efforts, then they could've indeed gotten trapped in the dome.
Alisaie: We also heard stories about the settlement in Yuweyawata. People lived there until nearly a decade ago, and Zoraal Ja made regular visits.
Alphinaud: If he required secrecy, a location home to his most loyal followers would be ideal. And if this Mamool Ja woman had remained there, they would have had occasion to come in contact.
Shale: I see. But what could Zoraal Ja have been doing in that village?
Krile: I think we can answer that question. Krile: In order to retrace Zoraal Ja's steps, Raha and I spoke with a researcher who worked at Origenics. Krile: He said that, approximately twenty years ago, a number of his colleagues were transferred to a research facility outside Everkeep─per the king's direct order.
Shale: This is the first I've heard of such a facility. Only Vanguard was believed to have been under the king's jurisdiction...
G'raha Tia: It was apparently being used to develop a new kind of weapon, but I'm afraid that was all we could learn.
Shale: It's plenty to go on. Even if the work there was classified, any materials and equipment needed would have been manufactured within Everkeep. Shale: So if we look into transportation records... Shale: There it is. Shale: The routes are full of detours and attempts at obfuscation, but large deliveries were being made to Yuweyawata. Far too large for a mere village. Shale: There hasn't been any activity for years, though. It's likely the facility has been decommissioned.
Gulool Ja: Do you think that's where my mother was?
Wuk Lamat: We can't say for certain just yet, but I reckon there's a good chance!
Gulool Ja: This is amazing! Even though no one remembers her, you managed to figure all of this out!
G'raha Tia: Each piece of the puzzle may reveal little on its own, but when we put several together, a picture begins to form. G'raha Tia: And even should memories fade, footprints remain to mark the path of those who walked before. G'raha Tia: A lesson I learned in another life.
Wuk Lamat: So we'll be investigating this secret facility in Yuweyawata, then. Wuk Lamat: And this time, I want you to come along, Gulool Ja.
Shale: Yuweyawata is on the other side of the lake. To get there, you'll need to take a hover cargo from the driftdowns.
Gulool Ja: Alright. Thank you, Shale!
Optional Dialogue
Shale: Make your way to the driftdowns when you're ready. Kiluwsa will have a hover cargo ready for you.
Kiluwsa: I'll remain nearby after dropping you off. Just let me know when you're ready to head back.
Wuk Lamat: We've seen how much has changed for the part of Yyasulani that's on this side of the dome. I wonder what it's like on the other...
Alphinaud: Someone would have noticed if Zoraal Ja traveled from the driftdowns. I expect he utilized a flying vehicle.
Krile: While the researcher we spoke with remembered that he had colleagues, he couldn't recall details about any specific individuals. Not their names nor what they were like...
G'raha Tia: Weapons developed in secret with the aid of devoted followers... Nothing good will have come of this.
Alisaie: The settlement in the outskirts─that was originally Tonawawtan as well, yes? I wonder if Yuweyawata is similar to it.
Speak with Gulool Ja at the driftdowns (cutscene)
Gulool Ja: So the hover cargo will take us across the lake... I've never been over there before.
Wuk Lamat: It's still inside the dome, so I don't expect it'll be too different from here. Wuk Lamat: We'll likely encounter dangerous beasts, so the rest of us will go first. You follow when it's safe to do so, alright?
Gulool Ja: Alright. Be careful, everyone!
Optional Dialogue
Wuk Lamat: I promised to look after Gulool Ja, but I've spent hardly any time with him. I'm going to make up for that.
Alphinaud: While I alone haven't seen much of the dome, I am no stranger to braving the unknown. I will not slow us down.
Krile: We've seen the havoc that Valigarmanda wreaked on Urqopacha. I wonder what this other tural vidraal might have left in its wake.
G'raha Tia: If the facility was used to research new weaponry, then it will have had tight security. Even if it has been closed down, let us proceed with caution.
Alisaie: I can't help but be reminded of our foray into Origenics. And of Cahciua...
Gulool Ja: Don't worry about me. I'm good at hiding from beasts.
Dungeon
Gulool Ja: My father must've come here for a reason... Gulool Ja: There are beasts here, too!? Gulool Ja: So the facility is still here... Gulool Ja: What kind of research did they do here? Gulool Ja: Ah! What are those!? Gulool Ja: They're...they're moving! Gulool Ja: What happened here? Gulool Ja: Aaah! Gulool Ja: More of them! Gulool Ja: What was Father doing here?
Overseer Kanilokka: You... Surrender your souls...to King Zoraal Ja.
Gulool Ja: I have a bad feeling about this...
Overseer Kanilokka: Come forth, my dear souls... Overseer Kanilokka: I won't let...precious samples escape... Overseer Kanilokka: Discard the flesh...extract the soul... Overseer Kanilokka: Why not serve a greater purpose...? The King of Resolve's purpose... Overseer Kanilokka: Relinquish your souls... For the glory of Alexandria! Overseer Kanilokka: More...more souls... The work demands more souls! Overseer Kanilokka: Would that we could tame the beast... But the seal is already...
Gulool Ja: Is that...a storm? Gulool Ja: Something's wrong... Don't rush ahead! Gulool Ja: What was that roar? Did it come from inside the storm!? Gulool Ja: Has that thing been sealed away all this time!?
Post-duty Voiced Cutscene
Wuk Lamat: For all the talk of my brother felling this beast, he only imprisoned it, like Valigarmanda.
Krile: From what I could tell, they sought to transfer people's souls and memories into bestial vessels at that facility. Krile: The tural vidraal explains the need for a remote location. It was doubtless their prime subject. Krile: Though I expect Zoraal Ja did not foresee the opportunities it presented when he imprisoned the creature...
Kanilokka: ...And so, in order to prevent the breakdown of the individual, I instead seek to transfer their soul into the body of the beast.
Zoraal Ja: This would allow one to wield the power of a tural vidraal?
Kanilokka: In theory. Our initial experiments will involve lesser creatures, but in time I am confident we will be able to bring even the mightiest under our control.
Zoraal Ja: And what becomes of those who offer their souls?
Kanilokka: As they won't be able to return to their original forms, we must consider them lost. But the sacrifice will be worthwhile, for the army you stand to gain will far surpass any composed of mechanical soldiers.
Zoraal Ja: Very well. Recruit volunteers and begin at once.
Kanilokka: Thank you, Your Majesty. I shall return to the observatory and see to the necessary preparations.
Mamool Ja Woman: So you've given him permission.
Zoraal Ja: Teeshal Ja. You will assist Kanilokka. Zoraal Ja: As one of the Landsguard's finest chirurgeons, your knowledge may be of use in his experiments. Zoraal Ja: You will also watch him. Closely. And what you learn, you will report to me. Zoraal Ja: You object to his project? Or are you incapable of performing this duty?
Teeshal Ja: No, Your Majesty... Teeshal Ja: Whether we shelter within the dome or expand beyond it, we require great power. Teeshal Ja: But with no one to rely upon, we must take that power for ourselves. Even if the means are questionable. Teeshal Ja: I will do as you command. Teeshal Ja: But if Kanilokka's work bears fruit, I wish to beg a boon.
Zoraal Ja: What do you desire?
Teeshal Ja: Something that I had accepted I would never have in Tuliyollal. Teeshal Ja: That I believed would forever be beyond me─that it was foolish to covet... Teeshal Ja: But here─here and now, it is close... Teeshal Ja: So very, very close...
Zoraal Ja: Perform your duty to my satisfaction, and anything you desire is yours. Zoraal Ja: That which I seek does not lie within this dome. Here, I cannot prove the miracle. Zoraal Ja: But if what you seek is at hand, then you may claim it. For it has no value to me.
Wuk Lamat: Are you alright?
Gulool Ja: Teeshal Ja... Could she be my mother?
Wuk Lamat: Like the people in the outskirts said, few Mamool Ja lived in Yyasulani. I can't imagine many other Hoobigo women were trapped in the dome. Wuk Lamat: That being the case, she could well be the one.
Krile: This observatory Kanilokka returned to─could it not be part of the research facility? We might learn something about Teeshal Ja there.
Wuk Lamat: That's where we're going next, then.
Optional Dialogue
Alisaie: Now that the danger is behind us, it's started sinking in just how unsettling this place is. Hard to believe it used to be a village.
Krile: That you should be able to peer into the tural vidraal's past... I wonder what that implies for the beast's consciousness while it was sealed away.
Wuk Lamat: Teeshal Ja, you said her name was? I wonder what her story is...
Alphinaud: The villagers were likely monitoring the imprisoned tural vidraal at Zoraal Ja's behest. And at some point, they became involved in the research of souls...
G'raha Tia: It seems this Kanilokka was in charge here. From your recounting, he was quite dedicated to Zoraal Ja.
Speak with Gulool Ja
Gulool Ja: I wish I could see into the past like you. Then I could see people who are gone. Gulool Ja: Because there aren't any other Mamool Ja women here, for a long time I couldn't even imagine what my mother looked like. Gulool Ja: But when I visited Tuliyollal and saw some, I was finally able to picture her in my mind. Gulool Ja: And one day, I hope I can see what she actually looked like as well.
