Talk:The Prince of Anemos
Did you know? This is a reference to the Lord of Onzozo in Final Fantasy XI, a large kraken/octopus type notorious monster that at one point dropped one of the most powerful weapons in the game for endgame burn strategies on very tough content. Essentially you would get Dark Knights (melee DPS in that game) to equip it, and even though they were atrocious at using clubs, this weapon -- the Kraken Club -- had the special effect of attacking 2-8 times each attack round. Imagine in FFXIV if each autoattack had a chance of hitting 2-8 times but still hit just as often.
Dark Knights would pop their ultimate ability which converted damage dealt into HP, and an ability that sacrificed a big chunk of their HP and added it as damage with each attack. They would THEN be ultra-buffed to lower their attack delay as much as possible. Everything combined meant that they would be hitting for an absurd amount each hit, and be swinging so fast so often that the game literally couldn't keep up with the animations. It would run out in 30 seconds, but if done right with enough DRKs 30 seconds was often more than enough, which was crazy in a game where most endgame fights took 30+ minutes.
The kraken club was later removed from Lord of Onzozo (along with a slew of other high-value items gained in the same kind of way, from low-spawn notorious monsters who would then get insanely over-camped) in an attempt to address the economy of the item being way out of whack, and was placed in a special kind of instanced "trial" that had a very low chance of it dropping. Lord of Onzozo was in turn given an alternate version of the kraken club that couldn't be sold or traded, but no one would've wanted to anyway because it was nerfed in a really stupid way. I think it like, did a number of hits based on your level, and in order to get he same as kraken club could you had to be at max level 72, when 75 was the cap. Completely unusable, to the point that I can't even remember its name. All this shit is off memory from like 18 years ago.
Anyway, that's why this minion (a chibi version of the Lord of Onzozo kraken model) has two clubs -- the kraken club and whatever one it drops now. And obviously the "Lord of Anemos" in the description is a direct reference to Lord of Onzozo.
