(The Sea of Stars)
“The southern side of Mare Lamentorum slopes gently down towards the Cradle of Darkness, with the largely flat terrain doing little to obstruct the sweeping view. The ground is, however, rent asunder by deep canyons, making traversal to the northern side all but impossible on foot.
— Encyclopaedia Eorzea Volume III, p. 144
Southern Mare Lamentorum is an area in Mare Lamentorum, The Sea of Stars.
Landmarks
The Chlorophosgrot
This cavern is crowded with softly glowing fungi. The phosphorescence illuminates a path to the Chlorophospond, where truly adventurous anglers can indulge in a spot of lunar fishing.
The Cradle of Darkness
The ancient primal Zodiark was sealed within this massive hollow, a cradle intended to lull the omnipotent entity into tranquil stasis. Six sword-like monoliths surround the site, but these chains which kept the dark god imprisoned were deliberately shattered by the Telophoroi.
Vallis Vulneris
Precipitous chasms radiate from the Cradle like a sunburst, as if the sundered Zodiark's agony had opened jagged wounds in the moon's surface. Whatever the truth of their origin, they present a daunting obstacle to overland travel.
