Endurance

Endurance is a Racing Chocobo Stat that affects when a chocobo enters the detrimental "Lathered" state, which makes stamina spend at a faster rate.

The Lathered state is entered when a chocobo's current speed is higher than a hidden threshold. A higher endurance stat raises this threshold, meaning it is then "safe" to maintain a higher speed without getting Lathered.

Additionally, the penalty of Lathered increases as the gap between the threshold and the chocobo's current speed widens - for example, being 100 speed above the threshold incurs a more-severe stamina spend multiplier than just being 50 speed above it (not real numbers; this is just the general idea). Therefore, raising Endurance and Maximum Speed together allows for the Lathered penalty at max speed to be less severe, due to a smaller gap.

Endurance is relevant for:

  • Stamina budgeting - that is, accelerating sparingly instead of just holding the button. More endurance means a higher below-Lathered speed can be maintained.
  • Pairing with Maximum Speed, to make going at full speed incur less of a stamina penalty, therefore making stamina spending more efficient.

A downside is that Endurance is less helpful when stamina is abundant, such as from item boxes; and it does not effectively prevent Lathered when under the Frenzy status inflicted by Bacchus's Water.
