Job mechanics
The pictomancer channels offensive elemental magic by creating a variety of artwork. In addition to hard-cast spells, they also have several instant cast actions, similar to other magical ranged DPS. They will also be able to buff nearby allies, similar to Red Mage or Summoner. They will not have access to a resurrection spell.
The pictomancer's basic spell combo (Aether Hue) consists of a sequence of three spells: fire, aero, and water, that are assigned to a single button. Upon completing a combo, they gain one usage of an instant-cast holy spell and 25 rainbow job gauge. The pictomancer can use 50 gauge on Subtractive Hue, which allows them to use a stronger combo of three different spells: ice, earth, and thunder, that deal more damage but have longer cast times. Each available usage of their holy spell is also replaced with a use of an instant-cast comet spell.
The pictomancer's job gauge also contains three empty canvases, which can be painted on to create a creature, weapon, and landscape canvas. The painting actions are instant-cast out of combat but have a cast time in combat. The creature canvas requires four uses of the paint action to fully materialize. Each time the paint action is used, a different body part is added, unlocking an instant cast "rendering" attack spell. A moogle is created after two uses, and a madeen after four, which can be summoned by using a finisher spell to deal high damage. The weapon canvas will summon a hammer which can be used on a three-part ranged attack combo. The landscape canvas has a long cast time and unlocks a finisher that buffs party members and creates an area on the ground that grants several effects to the user, including the ability to use Star Prism, a very strong attack.
The pictomancer also has access to a movement action allowing to quickly dash forward while temporarily boosting their movement speed.

Trivia
- The only known example of a pictomancer in the Final Fantasy series prior to this job's introduction was Relm from Final Fantasy VI. The artifact armor in Dawntrail is styled after her outfit. The job was playable in Bravely Default II, another RPG made by Square Enix.
- This job was initially teased by the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles shirt worn by Naoki Yoshida during the 2023 North American Fan Festival. The connection is that the turtles were named after famous Renaissance artists.
- The job was revealed at the 2024 Japanese Fan Festival, featuring Krile in the full trailer.
