Playable races
Playable races in A Realm Reborn consist of Elezen, Hyur, Lalafell, Miqo'te, Roegadyn and Au Ra.

Au Ra
Au Ra
Introduced in Heavensward, Au Ra is a dragon-esque race with horns, scales and tails.

Au Ra is divided into Xaela and Raen.
Elezen
:Main article: Elezen
The elf-like race is tall and slender. They have longer life spans when compared to Hyur. Before the arrival of Hyur, Elezen was the sole dominion of Eorzea.

Elezen is divided to Wildwood and Duskwight.

Hyur
:Main article: Hyur
The human-like race is average in height and build. They have migrated to Eorzea recently. In Eorzea, Hyur is the most populous and culturally diverse of all races.

Hyur is divided to Midlanders and Highlanders.

Lalafell
:Main article: Lalafell
Lalafell is a tiny race from seas south of Eorzea. They possess child-like appearances and welcoming attitudes.

Lalafell is divided to Plainsfolk and Dunesfolk.

Miqo'te
:Main article: Miqo'te
The cat-like race possess large ears and feline tails. They migrated to Eorzea during the Age of Endless Frost in the Fifth Umbral Era.

Miqo'te is divided to Seekers of the Sun and Keepers of the Moon.

Roegadyn
:Main article: Roegadyn
Roegadyn's massive and muscular frames make them distinguishable from afar. Descended from maritime people that roamed the northern seas, they are often considered a barbaric race.

Roegadyn is divided to Sea Wolves and Hellsguard.

Ul'dah is one of the starting cities in Eorzea. As a bustling commercial hub located in the desert of Thanalan, Ul'dah is a city state ruled by the Syndicate, a group of six of the most influential and wealthiest members of society. The economy of Ul'dah is based on clothcrafting and mining.
The Goblet
The Goblet

Lore
The most interesting bits are probably as follows:
* Most official state matters are actually handled by the Divan, eight viziers who handle eight subjects of Ul'dahn life
* Wording seems to imply that the viziers handle their own respective areas, that there might be a Vizier for law, a Vizier for finance, war, so on and so forth.
* Population is overwhelmingly Dunesfolk and Midlander, with the two making up around 70% of the citizenry.
* It's not uncommon to eat spiced bugs.
* Their hooch is widely considered "off the chain", as it were, because the alchemists guild's distilling techniques have lead to some amazing breakthroughs in the fine art of making alcohol.

Flag
Ul’dah’s flag bears upon a field of black a set of golden scales, which weigh the jewel of prosperity on the left and the flame of might on the right. This emblem itself originates in Belah’dia, where the scale weighed power and wisdom. Thus, the twin heirs to that ancient civilization took one sigil apiece: Ul’dah the flame, and Sil’dih the grapes of knowledge.

Motto
For Coin and Country

Government
Members of the Ul Dynasty claim their sovereignty by right of birth. Their will is carried out by the Divan, a group of eight viziers who oversee matters of law, finance, engineering, the interior, commerce, war, religious affairs, and palace affairs. However the influence of the sultans has been waning for some time, and at the present true power is wielded by the Syndicate, a council sat by six of Ul’dah’s most elite and influential.

Leader
Sultana Nanamo Ul Namo, seventeenth in the line of Ul

Ruling Body
As a sultanate, all offices of government serve to manifest the will and policy of Ul’dahs ruler.

Racial Distribution
Midlander Hyur: 30%
Highlander Hyur: 10%
Dunesfolk Lalaafell[sic]: 40%
Hellsguard Roegadyn: 10%
Other: 10%

Note: the race of refugees are not reflected in these numbers.

Religion
Nald’thal, the overseer of the underworld and god of commerce, is the guardian diety of Ul’dah. While many believe that He is possessed of a dual nature, Ul’dahns see Him as twins, and worship Nald and Thal separately. Since times of eld, the Order of Nald’thal has devoted itself to this task, and encourages the devout to donate their coin–for virtue in this life, and happiness in Thal’s realm.

Guilds
Ul’dah is home to guilds representing gladiators, pugilists, thaumaturges, goldsmiths, weavers, alchemists, and miners.

Industries
Merchantry:
With a gateway to the five seas and roads to all corners of the realm, Ul’dah has long flourished as a center of commerce. Today, countless companies and consortia – both large and small – operate within the city-state.
Mining:
Beneath the lands of Thanalan run countless veins of quality ore, and, as a result, bustling jewelry trade has evolved.
Textiles:
In addition to crafting essential fabrics for everyday use, a large and prestigious apparel industry has grown under the auspices of an increasing number of wealthy people. As represented by Sunsilk Tapestries, a number of notable brands have become popular even outside of Ul’dah’s borders.
Medicine:
Thanks to the tireless study of ailments and Frondale’s Phrontistery, Ul’dah has established itself as a reputable producer of alchemical and traditional cures.
Entertainment:
The city-state offers something for seekers of pleasure, from gladiatorial displays in the Coliseum, gambling at the Platinum Mirage, and games of fortune ad the Manderville Gold Saucer.

Beliefs
In a city of merchants, everything has a price, and business is placed upon a nigh-hallowed pedestal. Shopkeeps show scant mercy towards their rivals, and anyone who is cheated out of coin is seen not as a victim, but rather as a fool. To other Eorzeans, inhabitants of the city-state may seem as swindlers who worship nothing but profit. Nonetheless, the core of Ul’dahn values of hard work and daring have earned many men great fortunes in their lifetime.

Diet
Few vegetables grow in the heat of Thanalan, leaving Ul’dahn cuisine to consist largely of meats and insects, heavily seasoned with imported and local spices – though some claim this merely conceals fare that would normally be deemed unfit for consumption. Alcohol, on the other hand, is more highly appraised, as the arts of the Alchemists’ Guild have led to distilling techniques leading to liquors of complex and subtle flavor.
Here's the interesting bits I picked out for you:
* The red on the flag represents blood
* Each admiral has their own councilors nominated as the thassolocracy changes leaders.
* This isn't listed below, but Merylwyb broke the popular trend of nominating their friends to high ranking positions, instead opting to award based on experience or even leaving previous officials in office
* Sea Wolves make up as much of the population, if not more, than any two other demographics combined.
* Religion is more of an in-home thing rather than organized in some other regions
* They standardized units of measurement for the entirety of Eorzea.

Flag
The obsidian longboat upon Limsa Lominsa's standard is a pirate ship, and hearkens back to the founders of the city: brutal Sea Wolf buccaneers, once the terror of the north seas. It should come as no surprise, then, that the crimson field represents the spilled blood of lost companions, and reflects the city-state's savage and gruesome history.

Motto
Till Sea Swallows All

Government
Lominsans choose their leader in the Trident, a competition held once every seven years. The strongest of pirate crews run this multi-pronged race, and whosoever crosses the finish line first becomes admiral, the head of the maritime city-state. Afforded sweeping powers over Limsa Lominsa, new admirals will often drastically alter existing policies--and with it, change the course of the city-state.

Leader
Admiral Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn

Ruling Body
A number of councilors, nominated personally by the admiral, oversee the everyday proceedings of the thalassocracy.

Racial Distribution
Sea Wolf Roegadyn: 40%
Seeker of the Sun Miqo'te: 20%
Plainsfolk Lalafell: 20%
Midlander Hyur: 10%
Other: 10%

Religion
As one might expect for a maritime city-state, Lominsans revere Lymlaen, watcher of the seas and goddess of navigation. True believers make pilgrimages to the mark of the Navigator before they set sail, and upon their safe return to port. The worship of Lymlaen has roots in a loose collection of local beliefs, however, and thus cannot be thought of as a formal religion. Indeed, the Navigator has no grand temples nor clergy to Her name in Limsa, save the odd bethel overlooking the endless seas. Instead, each man keeps his own faith within his home through prayer and humble ritual.

Guilds
Limsa Lominsa is home to guilds representing marauders, arcanists, rogues, blacksmiths, armorers, culinarians, and fishermen.

Industries
Piracy:
In the present day, piracy as such is forbidden. Privateering, on the other hand, is permitted, provided that the plunder be of Garlean origin.
Fishing:
Lominsan anglers come together in numerous loose associations of "pullers" and eke out their living by casting off the coastal cliffs and trawling the open seas.
Shipbuilding:
Whether they be crafting great warships or fishing skiffs, the shipwrights of Limsa Lominsa have no equals within the realm--as they themselves will proudly proclaim.
Metalwork:
The art of steel-making evolved alongside the shipbuilding industrym and has profited much from Lominsan exchanges with the kobolds who are masters of metallurgy in their own right.
Shipping:
With their considerable knowledge of shipbuilding and seafaring, it was natural that a shipping industry should flourish in the city-state. Many and more are trading vessels that can be seen sailing in and out of port each day.
Farming:
A settlement initiative has made great strides in providing an honest livelihood for those retired from freebooting, who grow mainly oranges, grapes, and wheat.

Beliefs
Founded by men fleeing the rules of kinds, Lominsans continue to see laws more as guidelines than actual rules. Whether pirate or fisherman, citizens generally feel less loyal to their city-state than to their immediate crew. This spirit of freedom ever drives Limsa forward, yet the selfsame wild abandon may appear brutish in the eyes of other Eorzean nations.

Diet
Naturally, Lominsan cuisine makes use of the abundant fresh fish and shellfish. The city-state is a favorite of gourmands, as the seafaring culture brings foreign spices and recipes aplenty to the table. Likewise, Lominsan liquors, which were developed to keep on long sea voyages, are famed--particularly the ales and wines, brewed from local wheat and grapes in great quantity.

Bonus
Eorzeans measure length and distance in ilms, fulms, yalms, and malms. The ilm is the fundamental unit of measurement, roughly equivalent to the length of an adult Hyuran thumb, with the longer fulms, yalms, and malms calculated using the ilm as a base. Needless to say, as the size of body parts can vary wildly from person to person, these units were somewhat imprecise in the early days of their use. While this would rarely be a problem within close-knit communities, confusion quickly ensued as trade and commerce spread across the realm.
Matters came to a head in the year 986 of the Sixth Astral Era, when a pirate who had come to Limsa Lominsa to procure sailcloth from the black markets became enraged when his purchase fell short of the length for which he believed he had paid. Though contradicting accounts of the incident exist, most agree that the ensuing scuffle left some fifty men dead or wounded. Admiral Agatzahr Roehmerlsyn of Limsa Lominsa took swift action, promptly arresting the pirate who had caused the ruckus, lopping his thumb clean off, and declaring that it would henceforth serve as the standard measurement of an ilm throughout the land. Cast-iron replicas of the buccaneer's severed digit were produced in bulk and distributed around the realm to serve as one-ilm rules, and disputes over vague measurements soon became a thing of the past.
Motto
Government
The rule of Gridania falls to the Seedseer Council, a body composed of chosen officials known as Hearers. These conjurers are able to commune with the elementals, and decide the course of the city-state through discussion and consensus. Around the time of the Calamity, however, Gridania's fate was so uncertain that Kan-E-Senna--the Elder Seedseer and head of the Council--assumed direct control. At present, she continues to preside over all affairs of state.
Religion
Nophica, tender of soils and goddess of the good harvest, is the patron deity of Gridania. While She does not want for devotees in other lands, only in the Twelveswood does one find the curious belief that the elementals are sprung from Her essence. These beings are at once the force of the forest's vitality and its defenders, ever ready to purge invaders from amongst the trees. Their presence is felt most keenly in the everyday life of Gridanians, and many are the festivals and rituals performed in the honor of the elementals.

Guilds
Gridania is home to guilds representing lancers, archers, conjurers, leatherworkers, carpenters, and botanists.

Industries
Forestry:
The sounds of chopping and sawing can be heard in certain groves throughout the Black Shroud. Woodcutters fell timber only where directed, and act in accordance with plans drawn up by Hearers in negotiation with the elementals. Thus, loggers avoid divesting the forest of its natural bounty, and even go so far as plant a seedling for every tree hewn down.

Carpentry:
With the quantity and quality of the timber in the forest, it is natural that Gridanians should take to working wood. Indeed, there is precious little they cannot fashion--from everyday goods to armaments to buildings to riverbeds. The pride of Gridania carpentry is the waterwheel, which has no peer in design or craftsmanship
Farming:
Over time, people have abandoned gathering the Twelveswood's bounty for the table in favor of cultivating crops. Orchards can be found in cleared thickets throughout the Shroud, and Gridania's citizens share large gardens within the city itself.
Hunting:
To ensure no man is too greedy in his take, hunters who pursue game in the woods must abide by the regulations of the Trappers' League. The League also works to combat poachers, whose actions risk upsetting the balance of the forest.
Leatherwork:
The artisans of Gridania use the finest hide and bones that hunters can provide, and craft works of such quality as to garner the admiration of the entire realm. They ensure that never will any part of an animal go to waste.

Beliefs
Gridanians know the blessings bestowed upon them by the elementals, and heed well their will. Behind this lies a fear of disturbing the peace of the Twelveswood, and being cast from the forest by enraged elementals--just as the Ixal once were. Yet, Gridanians have earned a reputation as stubborn amongst the other city-states of Eorzea, as they can be so unyielding in their commitment to the forest laws as to appear unadaptable and brittle.

Diet
The bounty of the Black Shroud graces the Gridanian table, from fruit to vegetables to meat of forest game. Yet, there are a few who feel this fare lacks in flavor. As animal husbandry is forbidden--lest the creatures upset the wood's balance--dairy goods are few and far between. Instead, Gridanians drink Mun-Tuy tonic, a concoction brewed from beans of the same name. In fact, many products made of fermented Mun-Tuy are known as Gridanian delicacies the realm over.

Bonus
In her twenty-eight summers, Kan-E has developed a fondness for Mun-Tuy brew, and is surprisingly adept at the dances of mooglekind.

Players can also access the area by selecting Residental District Aethernet in Gridania Aetheryte Plaza's main aetheryte or by talking to Ferry Skipper in Westshore Pier near the Lancer's Guild, Old Gridania (x14,y6).

Shirogane
Estate Types
All estate types can have:
*Chocobo Stables, Miniature Aetheryte for easy teleportation, mailbox, summoning bell, armoire etc
*the same number of Private Chambers (only applies to Free Company Housing)
*Free Company Airships (only applies to FC housing)

Small: Cottage
*2 floors with relatively small rooms
*100 pieces of furniture inside / 20 in the yard max
*can have 3 vendors at most
*can have 4 crafting facilities at most
*can only have 1 garden patch (up to 8 beds)

Medium: House
*3 floors, the house is approximately twice the size of a cottage
*150 pieces of furniture inside / 30 in the yard max
*can have 4 vendors at most
*can have 8 crafting facilities at most
*can have 3 garden patches (up to 24 beds)

Differences Between Free Company and Personal Housing
Free Company Housing
*Private Chambers are available for members for 300,000 gil each (with the limit of 512 chambers)
*Company Workshop for Free Company Airship construction. Airship of certain rank unlocks The Diadem (Hard), which can't be accessed otherwise.
*If offered free Krakka Roots for members, they can feed the stabled chocobos, and they can potentially save the plants in the garden in case they are about to wither and die. While a personal house can have stable and a garden, it's only up to the owner and the tenants to take care of them
*If no member enters the Free Company house in 45 days, it’ll be automatically demolished.
Personal Housing
*No Private Chamers
*No Company Workshops or Airships
*You can share your estate with up to 3 friends through the tenant system. You can allow them to use your stables, garden, or move and place furniture.
*If the owner doesn’t enter the house in 45 days, it’ll be automatically demolished.

Acquiring a House
Requirements
*Character with level 50 in 1 of the classes.

*Second Lieutenant in 1 of the Grand Companies for Personal Housing. Rank 6 or higher Free Company for Free Company Housing.

*A player and a Free Company can only have 1 house each. If a person wants to have two houses, they need to create/lead a Free Company and then buy one for themselves and one for their Free Company. Private chambers in Free Company houses don't count.

Purchasing Land
You can check if there are any plots available by speaking to the NPC who takes you to or out of the wards or using the capital city’s main aetheryte in Aetheryte Plaza and selecting “Go to specified ward” (after selecting “Residental District Aethernet”, if using the main aetheryte — you need to have done the Where the Heart Is quest for this to be an option). Taken plots have the owner's name or the Free Company tag on them while available plots show their price instead. Small plots go for 2-5 mil while mediums go for 15-37 mil and larges for 35-87 mil. Prices depend on the current server economy, the location of the plot and how long the it's been on the market; the price goes down the longer it's for sale. Waiting too long in hopes of getting it cheaper is risky, though, since there are limited amount of plots and, you guessed it, the demand is high.

The hardest part of getting a house (aside from saving enough Gil) is finding an available plot of the wanted size. It got a lot easier after the introduction of reclamation of inactive housing in patch 3.1, however, so now free plots show up every now and then. It's a good idea to check out the plots daily (multiple times a day, even, if you really want that house). Smalls and mediums go especially fast.

If you are not patient, you could try to find another player willing to give up their house. Just remember you can't buy a plot from another player directly; instead, you pay for them to relinquish their land and then you can buy the plot for the regular price. This means you could end up paying twice the Gil for the land compared to the regular way of spotting a free plot and going for it. This was pretty much the only way to get a house pre-3.1 when all plots were taken and most were inactive. (It is, however, against the game’s Terms of Service and may results in actions taken against your account, so it’s risky.)

After finding an available plot you want to buy, select the ward it's in and go there. Check out the number of the plot and locate it on the map; it's either in the original area or in the subdivision. Teleport to the nearest aetheryte, go to the plot and examine the placard in front of it; select buy. If you're a Free Company leader or of high enough rank in your Free Company, you must choose whether to buy the plot for yourself or the FC.

Building House
After you've bought the land, you need to buy the Housing permit from a vendor NPC to actually get a house on the plot you just bought. You have 45 days for this (if you don't build in this time, you will lose the land due to reclamation of inactive housing). Examine the placard again and choose to get it for

*450,000 Gil for a small cottage
*1,000,000 Gil for a medium house
*3,000,000 Gil for a large mansion

Small, medium and large houses can only be built on small, medium and large plots respectively. This also means that after buying the plot you're settled on the size, and if you want to get a house of different size, you must relinquish the land and get another plot. (You can't even build a smaller house on a bigger plot.)

While building the house you have to make a choice between three exterior types: wood, composite or stone. You can change the exterior components afterwards if you like, but choose the one you like the most.

Customizing House
Exterior
A house is comprised of four mandatory parts—roof, exterior wall, windows, and door—along with up to four optional parts: roof decoration, exterior wall decoration, placard, and fence.

A number of furnishings can be placed in the garden outside of your house. The following three options will be available to adjust their position:
:Move: Change the position of selected furnishing.
:Rotate: Rotate the selected furnishing
:Remove: Remove the selected furnishing from the garden.

*The number of furnishings that can be placed in your garden will depend on the size of your land.
*Once a furnishing has been placed in the garden, it can no longer be traded. Furthermore, certain furnishings will be lost upon placing them in or removing them from the garden.
Interior
A number of parts including the wallpaper, flooring, and lighting of the interior can be changed.

A wide range of furnishings will be available to decorate the interior of your estate including tables, lamps, plants, wall mountings, carpets, and more. Certain furnishings can be placed on top of others, such as lamps atop tables or desks.

*The positioning of furnishings inside a house can be adjusted using an interface similar to the one used for the exterior.
*Once a furnishing has been placed in the house, it can no longer be traded. Furthermore, certain furnishings will be lost upon placing them in or removing them from the garden.

Demolishing Your House
If you want to get rid of your house for any reason (going to switch servers, don't really use your house, plan on quitting the game) you can demolish it. You won't get back any of the Gil you paid for it and you will lose the “cannot be retrieved once placed” furniture (like all the cool and expensive primal stuff), but, if you're patient, you may be able to “sell” the plot to someone else if they're willing to buy it. (In other words: you get paid for relinquishing the plot.) This, however, is against the game’s Terms of Service and may result in you getting suspended for a period of time, so it’s not advised.

You could also wait for the automatic reclamation and then get 80% of your Gil back. In this case, you cannot enter your house in 45 days, but you can keep playing normally otherwise.

You can demolish your house and get rid of the plot by choosing Housing > Estate Settings > Private/Free Company Estate > Relinquish Land. (Or, in private room's case, “Vacate Chambers”.)

Reclamation of Inactive Housing
To ensure that plots of land are not claimed and left unused, estates not accessed for extended periods of time will be automatically demolished, and the plots of land will be put back up for sale.
*Reclamation of Inactive Housing was released in patch 3.1.

*80% of the price paid for the estate grounds.
*Indoor and outdoor furnishings that are not destroyed upon removal.

Not Redeemable from the Resident Caretaker:

When choosing to teleport to a district: plots that appear in red are either locked or do not yet have a house. Plots that appear in green are open to visitors. If a lot is for sale, its price will be listed in white text.
