The Slice Is Right is a GATE in Gold Saucer. Avoid Yojimbo's attacks and reap rich rewards.

How to Participate
Speak with the Strangely Garbed Gentleman at the Gold Saucer (X:7.6 Y:4.7)

Tips and Tricks
Yojimbo will summon bamboo stalks and quickly slice through them. The cut he makes will determine how they fall:

* A single diagonal cut will cause the bamboo to fall in the direction of the cut, causing a line AoE.
* Multiple diagonal cuts cause the bamboo to fall in a circular AoE.
* A single vertical cut will split the bamboo in half, causing line AoEs on opposite sides of the bamboo.

Standing where bamboo is going to emerge, or getting hit by falling bamboo will cause you to fail the GATE.<br>
If you find it difficult to see the bamboo slices, try zooming out, adjusting your camera's tilt angle or hiding your HUD.

Part 1: Yojimbo summons 1 bamboo stalk once, then 2 bamboo stalks twice.<br>
Part 2: Spectator NPCs throw 4 piles of gold onto the stage and Yojimbo summons Daigoro to collect them. Collect piles yourself to earn extra MGP. Standing in Daigoro's path or near a pile when he jumps will cause you to fail the GATE. Watch the direction Daigoro faces to know which pile he's going to jump to next.<br>
Part 3: Yojimbo summons 2 bamboo stalks twice, then 3 bamboo stalks once.<br>
Part 4: Yojimbo spawns 3 giant cups, spins them, then divides the platform into thirds. You must decide which section to stand in to get the reward from that cup. One reward is gold, one reward is nothing, and the last reward is getting knocked off the stage and failing the GATE. This is completely luck-based.<br>
Part 5: Yojimbo summons 3 bamboo stalks twice, then 4 bamboo stalks thrice.

Rewards
Part 1: 1000 MGP<br>
Part 2: 1000 MGP per pile<br>
Part 3: 2000 MGP<br>
Part 4: 2x current winnings / Nothing / Failure<br>
Part 5: 2000 MGP

You will fail the GATE when either struck by Yojimbo or after falling off the stage, at which time you will receive a reward commensurate to your progress in the GATE and any additional MGP earned.
* No MGP will be received when voluntarily leaving the stage.

The most MGP you can win is 12,000 by dodging all bamboo, collecting 2 piles of gold and guessing correctly on the cups.

Lore
Hailing from the Far East, the mysterious swordsman Yojimbo descends upon the Gold Saucer! Only those with lightning-quick reflexes and the providence of the kami will be able to withstand his onslaught and reign victorious in the ultimate test of skill...and sheer luck.
Guide
Players walk around the stage area and find a place to stand, and Typhon will appear after a notification appears on the screen telling you not to move. Any players caught up in his Snort AoE attack will be blown off the stage, and points will be divided up between those players who are left on the stage at the end. This is a game simply based on luck.
Description
The mission statement of the Gold Saucer's founder, Godbert Manderville, states that all are welcome to seek employment at the Gold Saucer, regardless of race, nation, or creed. It's even said a kindly voidsent has joined their ranks after an aborted gladiatorial career. If you believe you can withstand his gale-force nasal eruptions, seek out the thaumaturge in Event Square!
A mischevious imp has disguised itself to look exactly the same as an NPC. There will be a lot of NPCs that look almost identical, so you'll have to identify subtle differences among them to find the fiendish impostor. The differences can be anything from facial features to their shoes, hats, weapons, etc. If people are crowding the NPC, you can select them and take a closer, uninterrupted view.

You have a lot of time to complete this task, so make sure you're absolutely certain before you choose.
Imps, imps, everywhere! With the Gold Saucer suffering from an imp infestation, the management recruited a contingent of adventurers to purge the voidsent pests. To their dismay, the imps transformed themselves into the spitting images of their would-be hunters and dashed off into the crowds! GATEs, or Gold Saucer Active Time Events, are FATE-like events within the Gold Saucer, consisting of mini-game challenges that reward participants with MGP. GATE events occur every 20 minutes, and at the following times one of three events will be chosen at random:
We thought them taken by the Children, but eventually learned who the true culprit was. Of the countless rails that call the Greatwood home, Supay is the largest and most formidable. Unlike its brethren, it feeds not on plants, but on flesh and blood... It is an ambush predator, striking fear into its prey with a shrill cry before attacking in full force. This was witnessed by one of our scouts. Thus did we name it for a bird of Ronkan legend whose mournful song heralds death and doom.}}
So he travels the world, amasses all kinds of treasure, then pays a visit to a Nu Mou hermit who claims he can make his dreams come true, and would you believe it? Gunitt gets his wish! But then, in his greed, he steals the treasure sack off the table and runs off before the hermit can protest. 'Course he was a damn fool to try, cause the hermit gets their own back in the end. Curses Gunitt and transforms him into a twisted fiend for his avarice. Also sank his ship while he was making his escape for good measure. And so Gunitt was consigned to the bottom of the sea where he has wandered to this day.
Sugaar will occasionally telegraph that it will rotate clockwise or counterclockwise while casting Numbing Noise or Tail Snap. At the end of the cast it will do a wide draw-in, then attack and rotate 120° (1/3) 3 times. If you are out of range of the first attack before being drawn in, you will not get hit by it.
Description
Cladoselache

* Protolithic Puncture: Tankbuster.
* Tidal Guillotine: Area of Effect attack centred around Cladoselache. Players hit will take moderate damage, be Stunned for a couple seconds, and inflicted with a stack of Vulnerability Up.
* Aquatic Lance: A circular attack focused on one player. This will create a persisting circular damaging area upon impact and should be placed accordingly. Stepping into it will inflict Vulnerability Up.

Doliodus

* Pelagic Cleaver: A large cone shaped Area of Effect attack. Getting hit by this will knock back.
* Marine Mayhem: An area wide damage attack.

Doliodus and Cladoselache will swap place. While Doliodus is fighting, Cladoselache will be circling the area, swimming.

Shortly after the warning Cladoselache is gathering its strength... Cladoselache will jump back into the arena and execute Tidal Guillotine.
Doliodus will jump back into the water.

* Arbor Storm: Moderate damage to the entire party.
* Extensible Tendrils: Marquis Morbol will raise its four tentacles and eventually slam them down in a line attack inflicting hit players with Concussion. The boss will slowly rotate while doing this attack. At the end of the attack, it will use Bile Vomit, dealing moderate damage and inflicting Poison and Damage Down to players in a cone in front of it.
* Blossom: Two sections of flowers will be coated in a puddle that inflicts Heavy and Vulnerability Up to players standing in it. The puddle remains until the next cast of Blossom, at which point the other set of flowers will be coated.
* Thunderbolt: Moderate damage to the entire party.
* Thunderstorm: Circle AoEs targeting each player, plus several other ground-targeted AoEs randomly dispersed around the arena. After the attack finishes, an electrical orb will spawn wherever a ground-targeted attack hit. These orbs will grant a stack of Damage Up when touched. Orbs not picked up will eventually tether to the boss, giving the Damage Up buff to it a short time after.
* Shocking Plumage: Four cones AoEs, centered on the boss, pointing outwards. Deals moderate damage.
* Winding Current: Quetzalcoatl flies to one edge of the arena and knocks the party to the opposite edge. Followed immediately with four gradually-expanding circle AoEs and a Ring AoE that takes up the entire arena save for inside the boss's hitbox.
Prerequisites
In order for The Head, the Tail, the Whole Damned Thing to spawn, players must complete the following FATE chain:
# Where Has the Dagon (x23.2, y22.8)
# Ondo of Blood (x28.8, y12.6)
# Lookin' Back on the Track (x24.2, y17.9)
# Coral Support (x35.3, y9.5)
# Low Coral Fiber (x36.1, y5.3)
#* There is a chance the chain will reset after completing this FATE. The chain will always reset if Archaeotania is still on cooldown.
# Nothing Like A Trappin' Life (x26.9, y24.7)

Types of Materia
Materia can be used to enhance your gear. You can affix materia into a piece of your armor with socket(s) to improve its attributes.

*Materia affixing can only be done by specific crafting classes.

Players can acquire materia by converting a piece of your gear that is 100% Spiritbond to you. Spiritbond percentage increases as you use that piece of armor in battle, crafting or gathering.

*Note that the materia conversion process permanently destroys that piece of gear.

Creating materia
Spiritbond
To create materia, you must first complete the Forging the Spirit quest. The quest giver is Swynbroes, located at The Bonfire in Central Thanalan (23,13).

You can create materia from your weapons, armors and tools with spiritbond of 100%. You can increase the spiritbond percent of a piece of gear by battle, craft and gather while wearing that piece.

The type of materia you create from a piece of gear is based on the gear's intended class. For example, when you convert a piece gear intended for pugilist and lancer, you will receive materia that is ideal for physical, melee damage dealing.

Materia tiers
Lower level gear converts into lower tier materia. Additionally, higher materia tiers require higher level gear for melding.

Melding materia
The easiest way to meld (attach) Materia is to find a Materia Melder NPC who will perform the action for a small fee. This method has no level requirement. You can find them near one of the Market Boards in any of the three cities or in player housing if the owner has purchased and placed a Materia Melder Permit.

To meld Materia yourself, you will need to complete the Waking the Spirit quest. The quest giver is F'hobhas, located at The Bonfire in Central Thanalan (x:23, y:13). You will need to be level 19 or higher in at least one of Blacksmith, Carpenter, Goldsmith, Weaver, Armorer or Leatherworker to accept the quest, and unlocks the "Materia Melding" action.

Higher Materia tiers require armor with higher item levels.

*For example Tier I Materia requires a piece of equipment with item level of 15 or above while tier 5 materia requires a piece of equipment with item level of 90 or above.

Advanced Materia melding / forbidden melds
It is possible to meld more materia to a piece of gear than the available slots. Doing so requires completing the Melding Materia Muchly quest given by Mutamix, who is also located at The Bonfire in Central Thanalan (x:23, y:13). You will need to be level 25 or higher in at least one of Blacksmith, Carpenter, Goldsmith, Weaver, Armorer or Leatherworker to turn in the quest. Note that you can accept it at level 19, but can't turn it in until 25 (though you can turn it in as any lvl 25+ class, including Disciples of War or Magic). The quest involves melding 8 materia to gear in front of Mutamix. It helps to bring the requisite number of materia and enough gear to meld them to before accepting the quest to save time. This replaces the "Materia Melding" action with "Advanced Materia Melding". Advanced melds are better known as forbidden melds.

Forbidden melds allow you to meld up to 5 materia to a piece of gear total, however the chance of success is low, typically starting at 45 or 35% and going down from there, depending on the number of materia already melded, the number of materia of that specific stat melded, and grade of materia and carbonized matter used, Going for a full five melds (penta melding) typically ends at about 4-8% for the final meld.

Forbidden melds are often required for crafters for the highest tier of crafting recipes, since the unmelded gear is not enough to meet the minimum requirements for those recipes, even when high quality. Crafters attempting penta-melds often lose many materia doing so, which requires either a lot of time spiritbonding for materia or a lot of gil to purchase materia on the market board.

Materia transmutation
Removing materia
Materia can be removed from items through the item context menu. The removed materia is preserved.

Webberjo: /* Boss FATEs */

TOCRIGHT
Introduction
FATEs or Full Active Time Events are dynamic scenarios, often battles, that appear around Eorzea. FATEs involve boss battles, escort missions and other events. Players can complete these events for experience, gil and Grand Company seals. Occasionally players will also receive items for successful completion of a FATE at gold medal.

Shared FATEs
List of FATEs
Basics
To locate a FATE, look for FATE indicators that randomly appear on your map. To join a FATE, simply enter the FATE radius (blue circle) on your mini map and attempt to complete the FATE objectives. There are no limits to the number of players that can participate in a FATE at a time. If the player's level is too high, they will be asked to level sync down. FATEs can be completed by finishing the on-screen objectives within the time limit. Players are rewarded with experience and gil when a FATE is completed.

Types of FATEs
Kill Enemies
Monster FATES require the players to defeat waves and waves of monsters. On your map, they show up as icons with two crossed swords. Players can increase their rating by tagging or first hitting monsters, doing damage to the monsters and healing and reviving other players. To obtain participation for a monster slain, players need to get on the aggro table (pops up on the left) for that monster when it is slain.

*Easiest way to achieve Gold Medal rating is by tagging monsters with instant cast spells, damage them with AoE abilities, gaining enmity for multiple mobs and healing players with high enmity.

Kill Boss
Boss FATEs require the players to defeat one large and powerful boss monster. On your map, they show up as icons with monster maw. Players can increase their rating by doing damage to the boss, tanking hits from the boss and healing other players.

*Players do not gain participation by creating enmity, instead they gain rating by tanking the boss' attacks. Simply tanking a hit, regardless of whether you dodge, parry or take damage from it, gives you the same level of contribution.
Collect
Collect FATEs require the players to collect and turn in special items. On your map, they show up as bag icons along with a small bag that indicate the location of the FATE NPC. Players can increase their rating by turning in collectibles before the timer hits 0.

*Players can easily obtain the Gold Medal rating by picking up the FATE items on the ground and handing them to the FATE NPC.

Defend
In these FATEs, players have to defend certain objects from destruction for a specified amount of time. Waves of enemies will attempt to destroy these objects and players must defeat these foes. If the objects are destroyed, players fail the FATE.

Escort
In these FATEs, players need to escort an NPC or multiple NPCs from one place to another. The NPC will travel from point A to point B, players must defend her from incoming monsters. If the NPC is killed, players fail the FATE.

*Note that the HP of NPCs will regenerate outside of combat.

Hot Spots
Players often group up and farm FATEs for fast experience. Various FATE spots emerge for different levels.
13 - 20||Aleport|| Western La Noscea
28 - 34||Costa Del Sol|| Eastern La Noscea

Tips and Tricks
*Players do not need to stick around for the entire FATE. If you feel comfortable that you have done enough to receive full exp for the fate, you can leave early to join another FATE that may have popped. For Collect FATEs this is typically 6-8 of the items.
*Make sure to join a party. Often if you shout in an area that you are "looking for group" someone will pick you up. You can also use the Party Finder.
*By being in a party, you will not only increase your likelihood of getting the Gold Medal for FATE completion, but also allows you to share everyone's experience as monsters are killed.
*Tanks having trouble getting Gold Medal for FATE completion should spam Flash.

*Healers having trouble receiving high ranking FATE completion can spam Aero or Bio and tag as many mobs as possible.

*Casters can spam AoE abilities such as Blizzard II or Miasma II.

Boss FATEs
A Realm Reborn
New Stormblood FATE Mechanics
Experience Points Bonus
FATEs that appear in 4.0 areas will, on occasion, offer a bonus to EXP awarded upon completion.

FATEs offering bonus EXP can be confirmed via the map or the Recommendations list.

Twist of Fate
Special enemies may appear over the course of any given FATE.

By defeating this enemy, all players who participated in the FATE and receive a rating will be granted the Twist of Fate status.
* Players will be granted the Twist of Fate status even if the FATE ends in failure.

Players under the effect of the Twist of Fate status will receive increased EXP rewards upon completing any FATE.
* The effects of this status will apply even if the FATE ends in failure.
