[[Treasure Hunt]] is an activity released in [[Patch 2.1]]. While [[gathering]] resources as [[Miner]], [[Botanist]], or [[Fisher]] at gathering points that are of level 40 or above, players have a chance of receiving [[#Maps|Timeworn Maps]]. Players can {{action icon|Decipher}} these maps to receive a location where treasure can be found. After arriving at the correct location, players will have to defeat one or several monsters guarding the treasure before it can be opened. The maps come in 17 grades, with higher grades being associated with higher-level enemies. Since [[patch 3.0]], 2-3 new types of treasure maps are released per expansion.

*Players can only receive one map through gathering every 18 hours Earth time. They can decipher as many maps as they like, however.
* [[Fisher]] must have the {{item icon|Snagging}} action active to find maps (or {{item icon|Salvage}} while {{action icon|Spearfishing}}).

*While players can sell the Timeworn Maps, they cannot be sold after they are deciphered.

==Tutorial==
===Finding the Maps===
In the course of [[gathering]], [[Gathering|Disciples of the Land]] are able to obtain items known as [[#Maps|timeworn maps]]. These maps can be used to reveal the location of hidden treasures. [[#Maps|Map]]s are found in level 40 or above gathering nodes. Higher level nodes will offer more difficult maps with better rewards. Players cannot find maps at [[Unspoiled Nodes|unspoiled gathering points]] or [[guildleves|guildleve]] gathering points.

*Timeworn map locations are not recorded in gathering and fishing logs.
*When rod fishing, maps can only appear if {{i|Snagging}} is enabled. They are weak (!) bites on any bait that is suitable for the current fishing hole.
*When spearfishing, maps can only appear if {{i|Salvage}} is enabled. They are slow-moving, bottle-shaped shadows.

===Examining a Timeworn Map===
Players can examine a timeworn map by using the action {{item icon|Decipher}}. Doing so will change the timeworn map into a treasure map key item. Only one treasure map key item of any type can be in your possession at any given time.

Players can effectively hold up to 3 copies of a given map at a time:
* One deciphered copy in key items
* One undeciphered copy in the normal inventory
* One undeciphered copy in their {{i|Chocobo Saddlebag}}

===Discovering Treasure===
Using a treasure map will bring up a window indicating the general area of the treasure. Players must cross-reference the area map to discover its precise location. Using the action {{item icon|Dig}} in the approximate location will cause a treasure chest to spawn.

===Examining Treasure Chests===
Treasure chests are armed with a trap which, when triggered, will lure an enemy (or several) to your location. If the enemy cannot be defeated within the allotted time, or you and your party leave the area, the treasure chest will disappear and the hunt will end.

*The treasure map will be lost upon triggering the trap.

===Obtaining Treasure===
Players will be free to examine the treasure chest after defeating the abovementioned enemy. All party members will receive rewards such as {{exp}} [[EXP]], {{gil}} [[gil]], [[Allagan Tomestones]], [[minions]], aetherial gear, [[Materials|crafting ingredients]] (including {{HQ}} [[High Quality]]), [[Housing Items]], [[medicine]], and elemental [[shards]], [[crystals]] or [[clusters]]. The contents of the treasure chest will vary depending on the type of treasure map.

==Treasure Dungeons==
