*Her preparations complete, Lalah stands ready to bring the reckoning to Guildivain.

*Lalah informs you that she has finished preparing her countermeasure against Guildivain. With all finally in readiness, the three of you set out for the Hundred Throes in the Dravanian forelands, where the villain has made his lair.

*By the entrance to Guildivain's cave, Lalah reveals to you the countermeasure: a set of garments imbued with a special enchantment to shield you from your foe's influence. Changing into your new attire, you venture into the cave, where you find Guildivain waiting with Mahaud and Ancel.

*In service to his twisted research, Guildivain sets Mahaud and Ancel against you, but you succeed in freeing the pair from their enthrallment. Undeterred─and indeed delighted by your feat─the disgraced sage then transforms into a fearsome fiend to personally carry out his tests, but with your staunch comrades at your side, you weather the worst of his fell magicks and subdue him.

*Though Ancel wants nothing more than to put Guildivain out of his misery, Mahaud believes that Loifa should be the one to decide the villain's fate. And true to his pledge, he spares the man in favor of having him face justice in Sharlayan. Loifa then offers to return his soul crystal to Lalah, but she bids him keep it and, through his deeds, bring honor to her mother's memory.

*Upon returning to Idyllshire, Lalah informs Loifa and his friends that she has reported their disappearance to her superiors. As the sordid details of Guildivain's experiments have been brought to light─possibly in spite of the Forum's best efforts─the former fugitives' innocence has been made plain. Thus do they need no longer fear pursuit by the Sharlayan authorities and are free to begin anew. Loifa promises to use his powers for good while seeking a cure for Mahaud and Ancel, and they will likewise continue to stand by him. Inspired by their resolve, you make a silent pledge to continue doing your part, bearing the hopes of sages past and fighting for the future of all lives.

The Sage icon was changed during development because the first version was triggering trypophobic reactions (Aversion or feeling of disgust or fear in response to clusters of small holes or bumps) in some players. The two versions may be viewed and compared here (TRIGGER WARNING if you have trypophobia), and the official blog post announcing the change may be viewed here (Safe for people with trypophobia, as the old icon is not shown).
{{Quotation|FinalFantasyXIV.com Reaper|The Garleans' forebears were once humble farmers who made their home among the sun-drenched fields of southern Ilsabard. ==Journal==
*The overwrought Ondo seems overjoyed to see you.

*The overwrought Ondo has come ashore in search of an ally who can enter the city of Amaurot. It seems the Cups is being threatened by a great beast of savage temperament, and the Ondo fear it is an omen─that they have somehow incurred the wrath of the ancients. Perhaps a visit to the Bureau of the Administrator will explain the mystery behind the creature's sudden appearance...

*After hearing your description of the beast, the clerk at the Bureau of the Administrator suspects it may be one of Akadaemia Anyder's creations. He sends you south to the public offices of the Akadaemia, suggesting that you repeat your tale at the institution's front desk.

*Once more you describe the savage creature with the cavernous maw, only to be told that the beast in question is, in fact, under the supervision of the Akadaemia's scholars. Seeing no harm in allowing you─a resident sponsored by Emet-Selch─an educational visit to their hallowed halls, the academic sends you into Akadaemia Anyder to confirm the creature's containment for yourself.

*You have completed your “tour” of Akadaemia Anyder, finding the entire institution besieged by chaos and carnage. Return to the front desk, and make your report to the waiting academic.

*Speaking with the academic, you are treated to a brief lecture for every point of interest you noted within the Akadaemia. Most significantly, however, it seems that the mystery beast managed to escape both its containment and the notice of those outside the institution. With nothing left to learn, you prepare to make your way back to the Derelicts and the waiting Ondo.

*It seems your visit to Akadaemia Anyder has produced more questions than answers, leaving the Ondo concerned that the creature now threatening the Cups was able to slip the bonds of the ancients themselves. Otherwise, he seems greatly relieved that his people have done nothing to incur the old ones' wrath. The Ondo promises to share this news with his fellows, and bids you come to the Tempest to join them in the hunt...
* Speak with Alisaie. <br/>※ Solo Duty will commence upon speaking with Alisaie.
* Speak with Aymeric.

Journal
* Your discussion with Kan–E–Senna is interrupted by the arrival of a flustered sylph bearing urgent news from Xelphatol. It would seem the Telophoroi have marched straight through the Ixal's homeland, scattering all before them, on their way to the Carteneau Flats. Wasting no time, the Elder Seedseer orders the Twin Adders to ready their airships, and bids you join them on their journey to the battlefield.
* Outside the airship port, you are surprised to find Arenvald, whom Fordola has brought all the way from Ul'dah in the hope of speaking with Alphinaud. Your happiness soon gives way to shock, however, when you discover that the youth is now confined to a wheelchair due to the injuries he sustained in the tower at Paglth'an. Having apparently resigned himself to the fact that he can no longer join the other Scions on their adventures, he asks Alphinaud to fight on in his stead and be the hero that he cannot. While these well-meaning words only add to the─largely self-inflicted─weight of expectations with which Alphinaud has been struggling, he seems grateful for the encouragement with battle just around the corner.
* Their numbers bolstered by tempered beastmen and lunar primals, the legions of the Telophoroi test the newly forged Grand Company of Eorzea to its breaking point. As you and your fellow Scions descend upon the field of combat, it becomes apparent that the enemy have set their sights on an aetherial confluence buried deep beneath the ground, though their true designs remain a mystery. Knowing only that they must be stopped, you divide your forces and engage a nigh-endless army of foes, drawing upon hitherto untapped reserves of strength, and succeed at length in driving the Telophoroi hordes from their prize.
* Heart still pounding, you look up to the heavens to find Fandaniel staring down at you intently. Making light of his failure, he declares that while the day may be yours, your efforts have earned you no more than a brief stay of execution, and with that he takes his leave. Whether the Ascian is right only time will tell, but the fact remains that when tested, the Grand Company of Eorzea emerged unbroken, which is surely cause to celebrate in itself. You permit yourself a weary smile, and troop from the field. Soon after, a grateful Lord Aymeric offers to fly you and your comrades back to the Rising Stones─where it becomes clear he has much to discuss.
* Reasoning that the Grand Company of Eorzea can be relied upon to keep the Telophoroi at bay, Lord Aymeric requests that the Scions search instead for a means to neutralize the threat of the towers. Given Sharlayan's preeminence in the field of aetherological research, it is agreed that the solution will most likely be found there; along, perhaps, with knowledge pertaining to the Final Days. Unfortunately, you will not be able to confirm your suspicions until Krile has obtained permission for you all to set foot in the infamously insular nation, and a long wait seems in prospect.
*Sometime later, you accompany Y'shtola and the others on an expedition to investigate the mechanism by which the towers absorb aether, and learn to your dismay that they are draining the lifeblood of the land itself. As you grimly turn for home, you hear an ephemeral voice call out to you and you alone...
* It warns that the end draws nigh...and that the fate of the star is in your hands.

Duty Walkthrough
This duty is long in gameplay, so it is best to set aside sufficient time to complete it.
* For the first part of the duty, you will fight as yourself along with Alphinaud, Alisaie, G'raha Tia, Urianger, Y'shtola, Thancred, and Estinien.
* You will immediately fight a horde of enemies. Once the numbers thin, everyone will split up. Follow Alphinaud and Estinien to start the second part of the duty.
* For the second part, you will fight as Alisaie, alongside G'raha Tia. Remember to heal yourself and G'raha Tia when necessary.
* After defeating the minor enemies, you will fight Telotek Gamma. It will use many AOE circle attacks.
* When Alisaie is marked with a target, run to the side of the field opposite of G'raha Tia, then run back after the marker is placed on the ground to reduce damamge. Heal afterwards.
* Once Telotek Gamma is defeated, interact with Angelo to initiate the third part of the duty.
* For the third part, you will fight as Urianger, alongside Thancred and Y'shtola.
* Focus on healing yourself, your allies and the Confluence. Let your allies damage Lunar Odin.
* When Y'shtola is chained up, let Thancred damage the chain. Use Fixed Sign to cast a damage reducing barrier.
* Following that, Lunar Odin will use circular wide AOE attacks and a rush attack that covers one side of the battlefield. Take care to heal throughout the onslaught.
* Afterwards, Thancred will get chained up and Odin will target the Confluence. Free Thancred to redude the damage the Confluence will take. It also helps to cast Fixed Sign at this point.
* The fight will then continue as normal, but when Lunar Odin starts casting Ultimate Zantetsuken, he must be defeated before he finishes or else you will fail the duty.
* You will then head back to Alisaie and G'raha Tia, this time fighting as G'raha Tia against Lunar Ravana.
* When adds appear, cast Break to freeze them in place. Then defeat them quickly before they attack the Confluence.
* When Lunar nails appear, they cast linear AOE's.
* When Lunar Ravana is near defeat, he will make himself invulnerable. Cast Break on Ravana's Will to keep them from moving, and defeat them until Alisaie breaks through his defense.
* Defeat Lunar Ravana to initiate the final part of the duty, fighting as yourself alongside Alphinaud and Estinien against Lunar Ifrit.
* When Infernal Nails appear, destroy them before Lunar Ifrit casts Hellfire.
* Lunar Ifrit will share moves with Lunar Odin in terms of linear and circular AOE's.
* When Lunar Ifrit is defeated, the duty will be completed.

You will be able to undertake various quests and even gather with Disciples of the Land just as you did on the shores of Eorzea. Entering certain bodies of water will allow players to float and swim. When special conditions are met, diving under water will also be possible.

*Automatically switches to swim mode upon entering an accessible body of water
*Not all bodies of water are accessible
*Walk (breast stroke), Sprint (crawl)
*Only Flying Mounts can swim
*Available in limited ARR areas like Costa del Sol
*Movement is slightly slower than walking/running
*No combat while swimming
*No loading times when switching to swim mode

Diving
While swimming in a body of water, you simply need to descend as you would with any flying mount. If you are riding a flying mount, you can go from flying to diving by descending into water at the proper angle. Swimming toward the surface will allow you to leave deep waters automatically.

*Can only dive in selectable bodies of water
*No loading times when moving to dive mode
*No need to worry about drowning (endless diving magically enabled)
*All flying mounts can dive
*Diving is available only in Stormblood, Shadowbringers, and Endwalker areas
*No battles during diving
*NPC interactions and gathering possible
*New gathering locations (especially for fishers)
*Diving is unlocked via a quest

The Diamond Weapon's Abilities (Phase 1)
Mark I Anti-Eikon Warmachina: The Diamond Weapon
In this fight, 2 ships and 4 teleporters pads will be available to players. This is important to be able to dodge some of the mechanics during the battle.

Diamond Rain: Unavoidable Raid-wide damage

Adamant Purge: This mechanic is telegraphed by a glowing hand on one of the Diamond Weapon's sides. If hit, it will result in a KO, regardless of health. Teleport to the opposite side to avoid damage.

Attack: Auto-attack that targets tanks with line attacks. Avoid overlapping to minimize damage.

Photon Burst: Targets tanks with proximity-based damage. Separate from other players to avoid spreading damage.

Diamond Flash: This linear attack is telegraphed by a yellow glow on the Diamond Weapon's chest and will target a random player. Line up to share the damage.

The Diamond Weapon (Phase 2)
Code Chi-Xi-Sigma: This move will shed the Diamond Weapon's armor and transition to the next phase of the battle.

Auri Cyclone: This attack will be casted immeadiately after Code Chi-Xi-Sigma, placing a blue circle AOE on one of the ships. This attacks guarantees knockback, so either get as close as possible without getting inside to avoid getting knocked off the ship, or use knockback immunity.

Airship's Bane: This will temporarily destroy one of the ships. All players must evacuate as this attack will guarantee a KO if on the targeted ship.

Afterwards, the Diamond Weapon will hop onto the remaining ship.

Outrage: High Raid-wide damage

Auri Arts comes in two forms of attacks:

1: Untargetable Blue spheres will appear outside the ship, telegraphed by a zig-zag line. After that, the Diamond Weapon will target one side of the ship. Getting hit by this move will cause knockback and add a stack of Vulnerability Up. Move into a safe zone to avoid damage.

2: The Diamond Weapon will target the middle of the ship, followed by a circular AOE. Move to the side to dodge the linear attack, and then stay out of the circle.

Vertical Cleave: This attack will happen from the side of the ship and guarantee knockback. Line up with the corner of the ship to avoid falling off the ship.

The Diamond Weapon (Phase 3)
After another Auri Arts, the Diamond Weapon will regain its armor, another ship will appear, the teleporter pads will be active and the Diamond Weapon will re-use Phase 1 attacks along with new attacks.

Diamond Shrapnel: This attack will target two players and 5 blasts will chase them in rapid succession. These attacks do heavy damage, so teleport away from other players after the large AOE appear to minimize as much damage as possible.

Articulated Bits: 10 hands will spawn, 5 facing each ship. Each hand will fire a linear attack. Move to the other side of the ship you're on to avoid them. This attack can happen at the same time as Adamant Purge.

Adamant Sphere: 4 meteor circles will appear, 2 on each ship. One player must be standing in each sphere to soak the damage.

Homing Lasers: AOE circles will appear on all players. Spread out to avoid any overlap.
Vertical Cleave: This attack will happen from the side of the ship and guarantee knockback. Line up with the corner of the ship to avoid falling off the ship.

The Diamond Weapon (Phase 3)
After another Auri Arts, the Diamond Weapon will regain its armor, another ship will appear, the teleporter pads will be active and the Diamond Weapon will have new attacks.

* Alphinaud is eager to continue along the road, and behold more miracles at your side. Speak with Urianger next for his decision.
* Urianger would sally forth with you into the jaws of peril, and see you survive "unto the morrow." Speak with Y'shtola next for her decision.
* Y'shtola would repay you for all the support you have given her, and implores you to do as your heart decrees. Speak with Thancred next for his decision.
* Thancred seizes upon the chance to express his appreciation for all you have done, and promises to guard your back during the coming battle. Speak with Ryne next for her decision.
* Unlike your fellow Scions, Ryne seems gripped by doubt and feelings of powerlessness. After some encouragement, however, you convince her to trust in the path she has chosen. With your party thus assembled, you turn to face the foreboding doors of the Capitol.
* You enter the Capitol building with your companions and find yourselves face-to-face with Emet-Selch himself. The Ascian belittles the value of the fragmentary lives which now populate the Source and its reflections, challenging you to prove yourself worthy of his people's legacy. With the gauntlet thrown down and the Exarch awaiting rescue, you steel yourself to wade into the infernal flames of the Final Days of Amaurot.
* You battle your way past terrors made flesh, and arrive at the brink of the star's fiery oblivion.
* Though you survive the tragedy which befell Amaurot, Emet-Selch remains resolutely unimpressed by your efforts. Taking to the field, he brushes aside your comrades' every attack, refuting each argument leveled against him with the same easy contempt. Exhausted from battering yourself against the Ascian's adamant defenses, you are powerless to prevent the Light within from breaking its bonds, and you slump to the ground in agony. Emet-Selch has won.
* But then Ardbert is there at your side, and with his hand at your back, you find the strength to take another step. Emet-Selch's disbelief is compounded as the Exarch appears and intones a spell to bring you further reinforcements. Now enraged beyond measure, the Ascian casts aside his mortal form, and reveals to you his true name–Hades. The final hour–the final conflict–is at hand!
* With all your might behind the throw, the axe of incandescent Light shatters the bound soul of Emet-Selch
* You wage a titanic battle not only against Hades, but the hopes and dreams of Ascian-kinds, of which he is the keeper. In the end, however, your own unwavering conviction brings the ancient being low. You have done a great and terrible thing. Pen the conclusion to this momentous chapter of history, and make your return to the Ocular.
* "Remember us..."
* "Remember... that we once lived..."
* The Ascian's words ring in your ears, even as both Y'shtola and Ryne declare your soul free of the Wardens' taint. You have won.
* After an exhausting swim to the surface, you and your companions are given a hero's welcome by the people of Norvrandt. The Crystarium erupts in celebration, and you enter the city beneath a blessedly clear sky.
* You look on proudly as the Exarch proclaims that the First is saved, and that the Eigth Umbral Calamity no longer threatens the Source. But then a moment of confusion descends as those assembled puzzle over the steward's continued presence. His timeline has supposedly been unmade, yet with the man himself still very much alive, it would seem the summoned Scions are stuck in the First.
* Happy enough to postpone their return if it means the Exarch's life is spared, your comrades urge you to head back alone. Once the portal is prepared, you step through without further hesitation, eager to bring word of your success to Tataru.
* When traversing the rift, the steady beat of time is rendered mutable, and so your unexpectedly early return catches Tataru entirely off guard. The redoubtable secretary swiftly recovers, however, and regales you with what she knows of the situation in the Source. Wishing to confirm the current news from the front line, as well as contact her "surprise" helper, Tataru bids you take your ease for the moment– a brief respite before the ceaseless turning of two tumultuous worlds beckons you once more unto adventure.

* Grenoldt channels his newfound inspiration into crafting a suitably splendid lamp for the Ondo's planned devotions. Pleased with the results, he proceeds to share the cause of his recent slump, explaining how the perfection of the ancients' works had stolen his will to craft. Thanks to the crystal you showed him, however, Grenoldt now claims to be overflowing with creativity–enough to weave the strength of bittersweet sagas into armaments you can use. An intriguing proposal, but one which might have to wait until you've delivered the artisan's lamp to the Ondo chieftan.
* You deliver Grenoldt's lamp to Tolshs Aath, and the grateful chieftan recognizes you and your companions as the sign they have been waiting for. You are invited to gather at the Walls of the Forgotten, and, after witnessing the Ondo's devotions, Tolshs Aath appoints a guide to show you the way to the "illuminated land."
* You greet the Ondo guide, and he directs you towards a tunnel leading downwards. It seems your comrades are already assembled below, and eagerly await the guide's directions.
* You listen patiently as your guide explains the path you are to take. Judging by his description, the trek to the illuminated land will be no simple undertaking...
* You meet Urianger on the floor of the first cavern, and he suggests a careful progression of scouting and relaying directions to those who come behind. Y'shtola waits ahead, the next link in the chain you are to follow.
* Alphinaud hesitates before a thick growth of white coral, explaining that there are two possible routes forward: the winding coral branch, or the path along the rocks to the south.
* Your dogged footsteps eventually lead you to Alisaie, who claims to have found the entrance to the Caliban Gap. If the guide is to be believed, you need only traverse this last passage before arriving at your destination.
* You and your companions gather at the mouth of the tunnel, and Alphinaud bids you dispel the Ondo's barrier. The glowing wall quickly dissipates, clearing the way to complete the last leg of your journey.
* As you exit the Caliban Gap, you are greeted by the spectacle of a vast city. Y'shtola describes the monumental enchantment that blazes before her aether-sensitive gaze, and your party is left momentarily awestruck.
* Y'shtola points out the similarities in design between the remnants you have seen and the buildings which now tower before you. It is, without a doubt, a construction of the ancients, but upon the ruins has been draped the semblance of the city which once stood there. And somewhere, hidden within this enchanted metropolis, awaits Emet-Selch and the captive Exarch...
*Slay Sophrosyne once and for all!

Journal
*You snap Giott from a melancholy reverie, prompting the dwarf to remember that Sophrosyne recently paid visit to Tomra and may still be in the area. Giott theorizes, based upon your recent vision, that the Virtue reflexively heals those sin eaters it recognizes as helmless dwarves─those of Lamitt's people who joined her in exile─and concludes that adding a helm to any eaters you would prefer remain dead may be enough to deter it from doing so. Though this seems almost too easy, it is true that sin eaters are simple beings, with no real powers of cognition that might allow them to see through even rudimentary deception. In any case, there is only one way to find out.

*You locate a pair of sin eaters, and summarily put them down as potential bait for Sophrosyne. As you well know by now, however, littering the entire area with corpses would be more likely to attract the Virtue's attention─and also somewhat cathartic.

*Now that you have dispatched a multitude of sin eaters and given Giott ample time to do the same, the time has come to reunite. Hopefully the dwarf has been able to keep at least one kill reasonably intact.

*As hoped, Sophrosyne appears to revive one of the sin eaters you left as lure. Upon engaging the newly risen eater in battle, Giott instructs you to use your spellcraft to put the thing to sleep, and unceremoniously crams its head into a helmet once you do. This does, in fact, prevent Sophrosyne from automatically healing the eater, and thankfully proceeds to work several more times as additional lesser eaters make themselves known. When, at last, all that remains is to defeat the Virtue itself, Giott raises the sole remaining spare helm brought for this purpose with a triumphant shout─and is promptly hurled backward by a sorcerous blow, the helm blasted to smithereens. With no other choice, she brazenly removes her own helm, revealing her face for the first time. Crowned with the helm of your courageous comrade, Sophrosyne is finally vulnerable, and the pair of you destroy it as one.

*Sophrosyne leaves behind a damaged crystal, one which you recognize immediately. As you pick it up, it resonates, calling forth a manifestation of Lamitt's memories. Giott calls out to her, though she is long beyond hearing, desperate to assure her that her legacy is not forgotten. And while the real Lamitt may not have known that, someday, one amongst her kin would at last recognize her for the noble woman she had been, her shade's words make clear that she was, at least, at peace with her sacrifice in the end.

*You speak to Giott, who confirms what you suspected─having broken her people's taboo by taking off her helm, she no longer feels as if she can return to Tomra. Having seen how inflexible dwarven traditions can be, and knowing how much they mean to Giott, you know it is not your place to disagree, and so follow her to the Crystarium instead.

*When you join Giott at the Wandering Stairs, she appears to be faring better than one might have expected, given the circumstances, and is certainly cheered for your presence. She tells you that while she still values tradition, leaving her village has given her an appreciation for the wider world and all that is precious in it─an appreciation that Lamitt, too, once shared. As you trade fond farewells, it is clear that, much like the woman she has come to admire, she will bear her burdens without breaking under their weight.

Walkthrough
* In this duty, Giott will fight alongside you against Sophrosyne. For the first phase, Sophrosyne will be untargetable.
* Make sure to heal Giott as necessary throughout the Duty.
* As you fight the sin eater, you can't defeat it right away. When Giott tells you to do so, cast Repose to put it to sleep.
* Once Giott puts the helmet on the sin eater, Sophrosyne won't heal it.
* Repeat the same process on the reinforcements that show up to Sophrosyne from healing them.
* Once the reinforcements are defeated, Sophrosyne can be targeted. Once she's on the verge of the defeat, the second half of the duty will begin and Sophrosyne will be fully healed.
* For the second phase, Sophrosyne won't heal herself, but she will use a new array circular and line AOE attacks. Defeat her to complete the duty.

* Desiting to use your time efficiently, the Crystal Exarch suggests splitting up for the tasks to come. While he transports the earthseed to Chai-Nuzz in Amity, he asks that you see your young dwarven companion, Korutt, safely back to Tomra.
* Xamott is pleased that young Korutt was of help to you, and informs you that other dwarves have also come forward wishing to aid your cause. To that end, anticipating that you will have need of mining tools to procure the stone for the Talos, they have modified their spare pickaxes for use by bigger folk. Thus generously ofurnished, you set out to rejoin your comrades at Top Rung.
* You arrive at Top Rung to find Alisaie and Alphinaud returned, along with the help they promised. Yet while there is no shortage of willing hands, there is a shortage of pickaxes for them to wield. How very fortunate, then, that you should be carrying a small mountain of the mining tools with you. Equal parts pleased and incredulous, Alisaie bids you distribute them among the gathered helpers.
* As you go about doling out the pickaxes, you meet many a familiar face. Though each has walked a different path to reach this point, all are united in their desire to do their part of Norvrandt. With the last of the volunteers equpped and on their way, your turn your steps back to Alisaie.
* After thanking you for your efforts, Alisaie declares that she will take her place alongside the soldiers tasked with defending the laborers while they work. There is much and more still to be done, but in such determined company, you cannot help feeling optimistic.
Journal
* Tristol informs you that a dwarven family known as the Tholls have long mined this land, and none know its bounty as well as they. If you explain to them your situation, the painter is confident that they would be willing to cooperate in your search for ore. Thus do you and the Exarch set out for the village of Tomra to seek an audience with its chief, a dwarf named Xamott.
* At the entrance to Tomra, you and the Exarch are greeted by a boisterous dwarf. Having traded lali-hos to his satisfaction, he reveals himself to be none other than Xamott. While he is keen to assist any endeavor that will restore peace to their home, he will only help you find the ore if he is certain you will put it to good use. To that end, he requires that you undertake a trial most tricksy, and invites you into the village to learn more.
* Xamott informs you that, when dwarves of his village come of age, each of them must prove their readiness to take to the mines. This they do by undertaking a traditional trial–the curiously named 3-D MineRunner. In this trial, you are given a slingshot, which you must use to shoot the dwarf who wears a different helm from that of the Tholls. When you are ready to begin, you are to report to the observer neargy.
* The dwarf observer takes you to the rooftops, where you have a practice run of the trial. The next time will be the actual trial, where failure is a possibility.
* With your combination of discernment, diligence, and dexterity, you succeed in passing the dwarves' trial. The observer instructs you to return to Xamott, that you might get on with the business of putting an end to the strangeness that racks the land.
* Impressed with your showing in the trial, Xamott declares that he will place his faith in you and help you to find the ore you seek for the Talos heart.
Journal
* By all indications, the residents of Gatetown are under Vauthry's mind control, and as Urianger attempts to fathom its workings, Alisaie arrives with your old friend Kai-Shirr in tow. Based on his account of events, it would seem that those who have lived in Gatetown the longest were the first to be affected. All the pieces fall into place when Y'shtola subsequently returns brandishing a loaf of meol. With dread and disbelief, Ryne immediately recognizes the Eulmoran staple for what it is: sin eater flesh, the consumption of which apparently renders one susceptible to Vauthry's influence. This shocking revelation leaves everyone aghast, but the horrors do not end there... Recalling the words you heard during your first visit to Eulmore, Alphinaud shares his suspicion that citizens who have outlived thier usefulness are being deliberately turned into sin eaters. Suppressing the urge to gag, you endeavor to put such thoughts from your mind, and concentrate instead on the task at hand: hunting the Lightwarden. The being is all but certain to be hiding in Eulmore's upper levels, and it is decided that you will lead the charge into the city.
* Together with your comrades, you sally forth into Eulmore.
* While the others keep Vauthry's thralls at bay, you press on to the Canopy, where you are confronted by a lone Ran'jit. Driven by a resolve all his own, the old soldier brings the sum of his might to bear against you, but you narrowly emerge the victor, striking him down once and for all. Rejoined by your comrades, you then ascend to the Emergent and find Vauthry having dinner in his chamber. There, Ryne finally realizes that he is the Lightwarden, being an unholy mixture of man and sin eater. Before you are able to act, however, Vauthry sprouts wings and takes to the skies. Rushing to the balcony, you are met with an impossible sight: the peak of Mt. Gulg, torn from the earth and floating in the heavens. It is that that Vauthry appears to have fled. With you quarry out of reach, you decide to suspend the hunt, that you might instead render aid to the casualties of the battle.
* To your relief, Thancred informs you that Ryne is able to counteract the effects of Vauthry's mind control, and is busy tending to the afflicted one by one. There are, however, countless wounded requiring attention, and you are asked to assist in the relief effort.
Journal
*Though a search through the Cabinet of Curiosity's resources for further information regarding Sophrosyne's magic has borne no fruit─through much fault of Giott's own, you gather─a new lead as to the Virtue's whereabouts did apparently present itself. Giott reasons that there's no reason not to pursue it, given the dearth of other options, so you agree to set out for the Rak'tika Greatwood in search of the eater.

*You meet up with Giott, who, to no one's surprise, is enjoying the local spirits in Slitherbough. The dwarf proposes that you once again divide your efforts and kill a number of sin eaters as bait for Sophrosyne.

*You put down a pair of sin eaters in accordance with the plan. The more the better, however, so slaying a few extra would not go amiss.

*Between your efforts and the enthusiasm with which Giott is doubtless undertaking the task, you have likely dispatched a sufficiency of sin eaters. All that remains is to rejoin your companion and wait to see if Sophrosyne appears.

*Fortunately, Sophrosyne takes the bait, swiftly healing a fallen eater. Less fortunately, the Echo causes you to collapse almost immediately upon engaging it in combat. It shows you another vision of Lamitt's past, one in which the First's Warriors of Light travel to the ruins of Ronka, and it seems that it was in that ancient place that she learned the long-forgotten technique that Sophrosyne now wields.

*You relate the contents of your vision to Giott, who, it transpires, has saved you from an untimely death at the hands of Sophrosyne. You do not neglect to mention the detail of Lamitt's apparent purpose in seeking the restorative magic of eld─to save her sister, though from what you do not know. Giott finds the tale to be of great interest, and suggests you both return to the Crystarium to further reflect on it...over a mug of ale, no doubt.

*It appears that learning of Lamitt's sister has provided Giott with a solid lead at last, as dwarven records are likely to contain at least some mention of her. It also may be worth looking into the Ronkan magic Lamitt gained access to...though whether it will be possible to do so will depend on whether Moren is willing to forgive Giott's prior transgressions at the Cabinet. Regardless, it will take the dwarf some time to investigate all possible avenues, so you are free to wander afield in the meanwhile.

Walkthrough
* In the first half of this duty, Giott will fight alongside you. It's important to keep him healed up.
* Sophrosyne will be untargetable while the lesser sin eater is active.
* After defeating the lesser sin eater, Sophrosyne will become targetable. However, she will revive the lesser eater, and this time it will be untargetable.
* Giott will focus on the lesser sine eater, while you target Sophrosyne.
* After defeating her, you will transition to the second half of the duty. You will fight as Lamitt, with Ardbert, Cylva, and Renda-Rae fighting alongside you. If any of them fall, you will have to start all over.
* For this half, focus on healing your allies. Let them damage the enemy and any reinforcements.
* When Ardbert gets Doom, fully heal him to remove it. Do the same with Cylva.

* Before long, Minfilia will come face-to-face with the original Oracle–the real Minfilia. But despite her understandable trepidation, she assures you of her commitment to see her journey through to its end. With both Thancred and Urianger also ready to set off, you have only to speak with Magnus to proceed.
* You board the trolley, but Minfilia quickly notes Urianger's failure to follow suit. He duly insists you continue without him, that he might inform Alphinaud and the others of your progress. After a short farewell, the Talos is set into motion, and the trolley begins racing down the tracks. The gate to Nabaath Areng opens wihtout incident, but an unwelcome sight awaits you on the other side–Ran'jit.
* With a single blow, Ran'jit topples the trolley, sending you and the others tumbling in all directions. Struggling to her feet, Minfilia pleads with him to let you pass, but her words only serve to send him into a rage. He moves to strike her down, but is prevented by Thancred at the last moment. Eyes aflame, the Scion commands Minfilia to leave while he contends with Ran'jit. After a moment's hesitation you take Minfilia with you southward, the clang of steel ringing out behind you.
* At long last, you have arrived at Nabaath Areng. Within awaits the Oracle. Minfilia steels herself as you press onward, still unsure how this reunion with her kindred spirit from the Source will end.

Walkthrough
* Ran'jit has access to circular and linear AOE attacks.
* Gukumatz will occasionally inflict Down for the Count on you.
* At 85%, Ran'jit will fuse with Gukumatz, gaining access to new attacks.
* When the duty action Perfect Deception is available, use it to hide out of sight from Ran'jit. Be warned however that Thancred will suffer Fading Fast, a status that will result in a KO if not removed in time. To remove it, cast the Duty action Shining Blade.
* Near the end of the fight, Perfect Deception will change to Souldeep Invisibility and Shining Blade will change to Leap of Faith respectively. Same pros and cons as the former, however Thancred will also suffer Vital Sign, which will reduce movement speed. Cast Leap of Faith to end the duty.

*Speak with Lue-Reeq in Kholusia.

Journal
*Lue-Reeq appears to have been struck by an epiphany.

*Despite not even bothering to venture outside the Crystarium whilst making cursory inquiries, Lue-Reeq has struck upon a new avenue of investigation into the whereabouts of Andreia. There is a prevailing theory that the Virtues, unlike most sin eaters, are driven by powerful memories that forever changed the course of the fallen heroes' lives. If true, then the memory you glimpsed of Andreia may hold a clue to where she might be found next. What you described to Lue-Reeq was apparently similar to a tale the would-be hunter heard when he was a child. Why he did not reach this conclusion sooner is anyone's guess, but the fact remains that he has now, which is why he urges you to accompany him back to Kholusia that you may question the wet nurse who first told him the story and determine if its hero and Renda-Rae are one and the same.

*Miss Olvara, the kindly woman who all but single-handedly raised Lue-Reeq, confirms that the adventures of the brave hunter that she regaled him with in his youth were indeed those of Renda-Rae. Despite the slander and disdain heaped upon the Warriors of Light in the wake of the Flood, Miss Olvara and her fellow bounty hunters still celebrated Renda-Rae's feats and looked up to her as a hero. They swore to preserve them, even if only in secret, and pass them down to future generations that they might inspire others as they had them. And so, even after she had long since put up her bow and quiver, the wet nurse delighted in sharing Renda-Rae's grand adventures with little Lue-Reeq, who in turn decided to follow in the women's footsteps.

*The theory proves accurate, for your search of the Citia Swamps leads you straight to Andreia, where you once more find yourself walking in the memories of Renda-Rae─much to Lue-Reeq's dismay. As Miss Olvara described, the hunter tracked down the scourge of Norvrandt, Balam–Quitz, and with bow in hand took aim at the beast that had stolen her comrades from her on that tragic day...

*In a twist, you discover that Renda-Rae did not in fact slay Balam–Quitz by herself, but with the aid of Ardbert and the other Warriors of Light, who had come to her aid despite her efforts to to keep them in the dark. However, when you emerge from your vision to share this revelation with Lue-Reeq, you are chastised by the young hunter who is angry that your visions have yet again cost you a chance to slay the Virtue. To your surprise, Lue-Reeq proclaims that he no longer has need of your services, and that upon your return to Gatetown, you will be given your final payment...

*After sputtering some few words of irrational disappointment, Lue-Reeq departs in a huff, leaving you alone with Miss Olvara. As she watches him go, she explains that his behavior is likely an attempt to push you away before you do the same, as past experience has taught him that many of his so-called friends have only consorted with him for his prodigious wealth. She hopes you can find it in your heart to forgive him, and that you come and see her after taking some time to mull everything over.

Walkthrough
* For this instance, you will be playing as Renda-Rae.
* Balam-Quitz uses a lot of wide AOE attacks so don't stay in one spot too long.
* When Balam-Quitz starts preparing Preternatural Roar, you must Interrupt it. If not interrupted, you will suffer Down for the Count.
* Halfway through the fight, Balam-Quitz will use Rumbling Thunder, giving an unavoidable Down for the Count. However, at this point, Ardbert, Branden, Cylva, Lamitt, and Nyelbert will join the fight.
* At 35% health, Balam-Quitz will use Frenzied Rage, giving itself a permanent Levinskin, which will increase it's defense.
* It will use targeted AOE on your allies. Gather near them to share the damage.

* Survey the Exedra.
* Activate the first anchor.
* Activate the second anchor.
* Speak with Alphinaud.<br/>※ Solo Duty will comence upon speaking with Alphinaud.
* Speak with Alisaie.
Journal
* You learn from the manager of suites that Lakeland is under attack by a host of sin eaters, though he assures you that the Crystarium will remain secure. Nevertheless eager to help, you agree to check on the citizens gathered at the Exedra in case any are in need of aid.
* The people of the Crystarium seem unaffected by the threat bearing down upon their city–by contrast to the recently returned Alisaie, who rightly finds the presence of sin eaters beneath the reclaimed sky rather unsettling. Any theories as to their provenance will have to wait, however, as Alphinaud arrives to inform you that several anchors around the city must activated before the protective barrier that serves as its primary defense can take effect. This process is best completed sooner rather than later, so you and Alisaie agree to assist.
* After wending your way through the city, you find the first anchor on a bridge above the Rotunda. You pull down on its handle, and the glow it emits indicates that it is now active.
* You activate the second anchor, and moments later, a faceted barrier weaves its way up from the array of devices to shield the Crystarium—and rebuffs a full dozen sin eaters in the nick of time. The Leveilleur twins, having arrived to witness the scene with you, indicate that your next destination will be the battlefiend in the Lakeland wilds, where Lyna and her people are already engaging the eater host.
* You take to the field with Alphinaud and Alisaie, and immediately set to aiding the beleaguered Crystarium troops, cutting down eater after eater as you make your way across Lakeland. Though your group is able to save many, you find yourself witness to death at every turn. You eventually encounter Y'shtola and Urianger, who join you in your rush to the Imperative, as well as Thancred and Minfilia, who split from your party in pursuit of a powerful eater.
* You reach the Ostall Imperative to find it beset by eaters, its defenders beleaguered and bleeding. After a pitched battle against manifold foes, you triumph, seizing an advantage that will make it possible for Crystairum force to reclaim Lakeland and drive back any stragglers.
* After the battle is decided at last, you speak with Alisaie. She confirms that procedures for ensuring proper care of the wounded are already well underway. As for the other casualties... the Crystarium will likely long be mourning not only those lost to death, but to the sin eater horde as well.

Solo Duty
* If the gauge representing Crystarium forces depletes, you will fail this instance and will have to start over.
* Throughout this fight, Alphinaud and Alisaie will fight alongside you. Later on, Y'shtola, Urianger, Thancred, and Minfilia will join you.
* Take note of allied AoE markers for swifter kills.
* When you reach a split in the path to the Ostall Imperative, Thancred and Minfilia will leave.
* Once you reach the Ostall Imperative, you have to protect 5 Crystarium Guards while fending off the enemies.
* Defeating the final enemy, Forgiven Hypocrisy will end the duty. But be warned, it will summon 3 adds that will make it untargetable. Kill them quickly when they appear. After that, a horde of enemies will appear. Alisaie will kill them off.

Journal
* Almet explains to you and Y'shtola the possible dangers that await within the final chamber of the pyramid, offering you whisperweed to use in the event you find yourselves separated. With her words in mind, you enter the chamber prepared for the worst.
* Once inside, you soon realize the chamber is a labyrinth, filled with magicked sentinels and perilous traps at every turn. The end is nearly in sight when you encounter a most unexpected obstacle: General Ran'jit. Uimet and Cymet follow him into the temple and, together with their sister, hold him off long enough for you to activate the final switch restoring the flow of aether through the whole of the pyramid, thus opening the path through the Qitana Ravel.
* Despite your success, Ran'jit has no intention of allowing you to leave. After making quick work of the Viis sisters, he comes barreling down the corridor toward you. His onslaught is cut short, however, when Y'shtola steps in the way to protect you with a barrier. The Eulmoran adjutant, finally taking notice of his general's struggles, rushes to help him when he steps on a curious panel on the floor. The room begins to tremble, and soon they find the floor falling out from under them, forcing them to a corner opposite the exit, a gaping chasm now preventing their escape.
* All present expect a rescue party to arrive, though it remains to be seen if the Scions or Eulmorans will arrive first. Still, not wanting to risk an altercation, the adjutant makes a proposal: a number of the Blessed have been poisoned, and the adjutant is willing to provide you with an antidote, granted he and his commander are allowed safe passage out of the temple. General Ran'jit is disgusted by this proposition, choosing to rid himself of the adjutant and any hope of saving the Blessed by kicking him into the chasm along with the antidote. Without thinking, Y'shtola leaps into the void, grabs hold of the antidote, and tosses it to you before disappearing into the dark.
* Her last words continue to ring in your ears as Minfilia, Thancred, and Urianger arrive. General Ran'jit has no time to react as he is summarily ensnared in an enchantment and sent down into the depths with a swift strike from Thancred's gunblade. A bittersweet victory, but victory nonetheless. With the antidote in hand, you take your leave of the pyramid with the Scions.
* The group is still reeling from Y'shtola's sacrifice, yet with the Night's Blessed all but knocking on death's door, you have no choice but to press on. Before rushing headlong into more danger, however, Thancred suggests waiting for news from Uimet of the Eulmoran forces that entered Yx'Maja.

Walkthrough
* For the first part of the solo duty, avoid getting caught by any sentinels. Watch their movements carefully and take advantage of any hiding spots you can find. If they catch you, they will inflict the Curse of Ronka. Too many of these stack, and you will die.
* When you reach the room with 4 giant sentinels, Y'shtola will create clones to distract the sentinels. It is best to Sprint to avoid their attention.
* Upon reaching the end of the room, you will be teleported to a room filled with poisonous mist. 3 teleporters will appear here. Be warned that the floor has arrows and will force you to go in the direction their facing. If you reach a blue teleporter, you will be transported back to the entrance of this room.
* Afterwards, you will have to run down a hall with giant boulders behind you. Hide in the crevices along the sides of the wall to avoid them and jump at the end of the path.
* As you make your way, you will encounter Ran'jit and one of his subordinates. Shortly after the fight begins, Almet, Uimet, and Cymet will hold them both in place. Run with Y'shtola into the next room and grab the Heart of Toupasa to end the Duty.

Journal
*Sul Oul seems rather more pleased to entertain you than Granson.

*Having finally completed your respective tasks, you and Granson bid Sul Oul to tell you what they know of Branden, the former Warrior of Light. However, the Nu Mou's fond words for the fallen knight spur Granson to lash out in anger, as he is unwilling to think of the man as anything but the eater he has become. The Nu Mou regards him quietly for a moment before inviting the two of you to accompany them to Lyhe Ghiah to hear a story...

*In the ruins of the ancient castle of Lyhe Ghiah, Sul Oul regales you with the tale of Branden and the lady Sauldia. The young knight served as the princess's bodyguard for a time, until he failed in his duty to protect her during one of her many “investigations.” Though she would make a full recovery, Branden was nevertheless stripped of his knighthood and cast out...only to return one day, a grizzled adventurer in the company of fledgling heroes. Together they sought to identify the culprit behind the mysterious transformations which had continued unabated in Branden's absence. And so their search would lead them to the viper in their midst...

*Tadric, court mage and loyal servant of the royal family, was the architect of Voeburt's misery. Consumed by pride and jealousy, he had orchestrated the transformations in an effort to throw the kingdom into chaos that he might claim Voeburt's throne for himself. Though the Warriors of Light succeeded in putting an end to his ambitions, their victory was marred by tragedy when Tadric, in a final act of spite before he breathed his last, cursed Sauldia like he had so many others, condemning her to a fate worse than death. Through the power of the Echo, you bear witness to the court mage's final moments...as well as hers, as Branden carries out her final order, and releases her from her torment...

*Good and evil, right and wrong. There is a comfort in simplicity. Granson had convinced himself that Branden was the villain of his personal story─that his tragedy could have meaning and purpose so long as he saw it through to the proper conclusion. But life is not a faerie tale, and Branden was a man like any other, full of hopes and dreams and regrets...including one which mirrored the hunter's own. Unsure how to reconcile this truth, Granson asks for a moment to think on his path. For indeed, if we are not who we believe ourselves to be...then who are we?

Walkthrough
* In the solo duty for this quest, you will play as Branden. Ardbert, Nylbert, Lamitt, and Renda-Rae will fight alongside you. Ardbert will fight half of the enemies, you will fight the other half.
* Shortly after starting to fight the initial four 4 enemies, bring them to the center for Renda-Rae to kill them.
* Tadric will summon adds as you defeat them.
* When Nylbert and Renda-Rae start charging their attacks, bring the enemies you have into both of their paths for maximum damage on the enemies.
* After that, Tadric will summon 2 canine monstrosities and they will target Lamitt. Step into the line they project to change their target from Lamitt to you.
* Once the last of the adds are defeated, Tadric must be defeated before he finishes casting Santified Quake III to complete the duty.

*The operation has begun. From your vantage point overlooking Laxan Loft, you watch as the dream powder takes effect on the Eulmoran soldiers below. At Lyna's command, you mount your amaro and descend on the stronghold to rescue Minfilia.

*You make your way through Laxan Loft and succeed in finding Minfilia, only to find your path barred by General Ran'jit, who effortlessly overpowers you. Just when it seems twisted Eulmoran justice is to be your fate, help arrives in the form of Thancred. Though he too is no match for your foe, he does enough to create an opening for you to flee, and leads you away to the neighboring region of Il Mheg, where you should be safe from pursuit. However, a new predicament soon presents itself, as mischievous voices ring out everywhere and nowhere, and some manner of enchantment takes the party in its grip.

※If you leave Il Mheg, you may re-enter via the gate on Lakeland's northwestern border.

*In vexed tones, Thancred explains that Il Mheg is the home of the fae folk, the most prominent of whom are the pixies. These mischievous souls employ powerful illusions to play tricks on trespassers, and you are now completely at their mercy...

Solo Duty
* For this fight, Lyna will join you from the start. Alphinaud and Alisaie will temporarily join you.
* Follow Lyna while defeating any Eulmoran enemies and reinforcements.
* After you reach Minfilla, you will head back the way you came before coming face to face with Ran'jit
* At the start, Lyna, Alphinaud, Alisaie, and Minfilla will fight with you, but Ran'jit will knock them away leaving you to fight alone. Watch out for his AOE circle and line attacks.
* He will be aid by an untargetable foe named Gukumatz.
* Throughout the fight, he will use a blowback technique and he will also summon untargetable flames that will cast an AOE circle before exploding.

Journal
*The Resistance fighter informs you that Raubahn is prepared to discuss strategy. You offer a curt nod and he proceeds to escort you to headquarters.

*As Raubahn tells it, the Alliance and imperials are at a stalemate, neither side willing to concede defeat. The reason for this deadlock was unclear until a scout interrupts your meeting with grave news─imperial soldiers have broken through the Alliance's defenses, being led by a man who appears to be Lord Zenos. You prepare to set out for battle when you are suddenly racked with pain as an otherworldly voice reaches out to you, but the agony of this aetherial calling does little to weaken your resolve. Raubahn can but wish you luck as you set out to do what you must.

*You arrive on the battlefield to find Lyse and Yugiri motionless on the ground, Lord Hien struggling and failing to get on his feet. Towering over them is Lord Zenos, or the Ascian who wears his face. Battle quickly ensues, but try as you might, the Ascian refuses to fall. With ill-fated timing, the pain of the voice brings you to your knees. Your foe standing over you, the world goes dark as his blade comes crashing down on you.

*When next you open your eyes, you find yourself in a strange, aetherial plane. Behind you stands a robed figure. He offers no explanations of what is happening, only a message: return to the Crystal Tower where a beacon has been placed for you.

*You awake in a soft, warm bed, a young Elezen girl dashing out of the room. Was the hooded figure a dream? The thought is pushed aside as Aymeric enters, relief plain on his face. He explains that, just as the Ascian was about to strike, Estinien intervened and whisked you away to safety. He goes on to say the man posing as Lord Zenos retreated shortly after, prompting the remaining imperial forces to follow suit. Before taking his leave, Aymeric relays a message to you, that when you are well and rested, you are to return home where friends are waiting for you.

*A hush falls over the Rising Stones as you enter, which is soon broken by an overjoyed Tataru. You recount to her all that took place, from your battle at Ala Mhigo, to the mysterious robed figure and his cryptic message. After giving it careful thought, she suspects this person, whomever they may be, is possibly the key to rescuing the others. With renewed resolve, she assures you the Scions who yet remain at the Rising Stones will find the beacon waiting for you at the Crystal Tower.

*Tataru never lost hope that you would return. In fact, she fashioned you a new set of garments to celebrate your return. Though it is unclear what you will find at the Crystal Tower, perhaps this garb will be of use on the road ahead.

Dialogue
Solo Duty Walkthrough
Upon speaking with Raubahn, you will enter a two part solo duty.
*Initially, you start the fight as Hien and all you will have is four skills on the pet bar. Lyse and Yugiri will fight alongside you. Follow standard mechanics for this part of the duty and can be cleared with ease.

*In the 2nd part of the fight, you will have all spells/skills avalible again. When Zenos becomes untargetable players must instead take down his swords as in Ala Mhigo. Jobs that rely on DoT should DoT multiple swords while avoiding aoe and DPSing each in turn, order does not matter as all must be taken down to prevent 999,999 damage. Following this DPS check Zenos will use multiple previously seen attacks in quick succession before returning to normal rotation.

*Should you fail to complete the solo duty both parts must be replayed.

*The fate of the Ruby Sea hangs in the balance, and Seiryu is eager to play his part.
* Restored to his former self and wholly aware of the dire circumstances, Seiryu departs with all due haste for Reisen Temple. With luck, you and he will not be too late to prevent the mad auspice Koryu from breaking free...
* You, Tataru, and Soroban stand by as the Four Lords bring their combined power to bear against Koryu, and for a moment, all proceeds according to plan. Alas, relief soon gives way to despair as the restored wards shatter, and the mad auspice emerges from the sacred crystal, the picture of rage personified. In a flash, he dispatches Genbu, and with him the last vestiges of hope. Your fates all but sealed, you join with the surviving auspices in a valiant yet futile last stand... only to find yourselves in the company of the lond-dead Tenzen. Yet even bolstered by the spirit's considerable strength, you are unable to beat back Koryu, until Soroban, in a noble act of sacrifice, summons the soul of the departed Genbu into in his body that the resurrected auspice might turn the tide, and together with you and his comrades imprison Koryu for millennia to come.
* The Ruby Sea and her people shall live to see another day, but not without cost, for Soroban is no more... or is he? It would seem the Kojin's soul is possessed of immense spiritual strength, owing to this recent trials and tribulations. Accordingly, when he summoned Genbu's soul into his body, his own managed to endure; as a result, however, the auspice's resurrection is fleeting, and in time he will pass from this world as before. With his remaining time, he intends to train Soroban to succeed him as the next Genbu and take his place alongside his comrades as one of the Four Lords. Though he is by no means confident in his ability to rise to the occasion, the Kojin understands and appreciates the need for guardians to watch over the Ruby Sea, and is willing to do his best to live up to their expectations.
* You go to each of Genbu's comrades in turn, who thank you for your assistance and muse on the unknown future. Byakko sees many battles in your future, and wishes you good fortune in the wars to come; Suzaku bids you come and visit again, for you will always hold a special place in her heart; Seiryu demands that you live long and grow strong, for he looks forward to a rematch. Parting words had, you rejoin a Tataru eager to receive the fabulous reward which first drew her to Hells' Lid.
* The reward is indeed fabulous and more than makes up for the reckless purchase by a certain well-meaning youth that led you to pursue means by which you might replenish the coffers of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn in the first place. The collective is even willing to deliver the payment to the Ruby Bazaar in your stead, leaving you and Tataru to return to Tamamizu and inform Bunchin of Soroban's new role as a member of the Four Lords.
* Bunchin is understandably surprised and saddened to heart that Soroban will not be returning to the village for quite some time, if not ever. Nevertheless, it fills him with pride to think that a Kojin of the Blue has been granted such a tremendous honor. Still, he cannot help but worry that Soroban might grow lonely in the days ahead, and so he asks that you make an effort to go and see him from time to time. And why would you not? For there are few places in the world one may enjoy the company of adorable and surly talking beasts!
*Quell Soroban's aramitama.
*Speak with Bunchin in Tamamizu.

Solo Duty
After talking with Genbu, a solo duty will commence. In this fight, Genbu and Tataru will join you against Soroban from the start.
* Soroban uses a lot of AOE attacks, so you have to keep moving.
* When half of Soroban's health is depleted, Genbu will instruct you to get behind him as he erects a shield. Afterwards, he will retreat from the battle.
* When Soroban is near defeat, he will summon up Fonts, which are basically large whirlpools. Defeating these aren't important, but it does help make the fight much easier.
Journal
*When last you left Soroban, he was undergoing strenuous training under the tutelage of Genbu, one of the Four Lords of legend, in Reisen Temple. It would seem that since you delivered news of this development to Bunchin, he has heard nothing further regarding his kinsman. Coincidentally, the moment the Kojin chieftain voices his concern, you are contacted by Tataru, who is bound for the temple to deliver a treat to the hardworking Soroban...

*Though Soroban is not without potential -- as is evidenced by the simple fact that he has yet to run screaming from the temple -- Genbu is concerned that he will not be strong enough to aid in the great battles to come against Seiryu and Suzaku. Therefore, to accelerate the training process, he would have you retrieve a relic known as the tamate-bako of geomancy, which has the power to manipulate time itself, and transform Soroban into an auspice -- albeit until the magicks dissipate. The box can be found deep within the Swallow's Compass, the ancient mausoleum of Ganen, the founder of the Kingdom of Doma and father of Far Eastern geomancy. Given the nature of the task, it would be prudent to call upon several of your allies.

*You journey unto Yanxia and arrive at the tomb to find Kamaitachi, who has already dealt with the wards sealing the entrance. The grand mausoleum was long ago abandoned to the shikigami forever bound to its halls, who will doubtless do their utmost to bar your way. Nevertheless, you and your comrades must overcome these guardians and whatever other trials you encounter, and lay claim to the tamate-bako of geomancy.<br/>※The Swallow's Compass can be accessed via the Duty Finder.

*After braving the myriad dangers of the tomb, your party at last comes upon the relic and its final guardian, an auspice far more formidable than those who preceded him. Yet, in the end, he and his golden-hooped rod are no match for you and yours.

*Genbu is quite pleased to receive you and the tamate-bako of geomancy, and immediately calls for everyone to prepare for the next stage of Soroban's training, in which the Kojin is to bathe in the temporal magicks of the box and temporarily transform into an auspice. The process is not without its risks, however, and despite Tataru's assurances that she can bring her arcanima to bear in an emergency, it will likely fall to you to deal with any dangers that may arise...<p>After all save Soroban withdraw to a safe distance, the Kojin opens the box, from which pours forth an endless fount of smoke. All observe in silence... until Tataru, growing impatient, declares the box to be a fake and runs to gaze inside. Genbu quickly pushes her aside, but too late to spare her entirely, as she is transformed into a hideous crone... for some few moments. Alas, her reckless actions serve to distract Genbu from Soroban, whose prolonged exposure to the smoke leads him to transform into an auspice already consumed by the aramitama. As feared, you will need to call upon your martial prowess and subdue the rampaging Soroban before Reisen Temple is destroyed.</p>

*Though the battle is not without its twists and turns, it ends in your victory, as is usually the case. Genbu, briefly incapacitated, has fortunately recovered, and regards Soroban with a mixture of surprise and exasperation...
*Together with Hien and Y'shtola, you make your way to the House of the Crooked Coin, resolved to determine the pillars' suitability as an energy source.

*After inspecting the pillars, Y'shtola seems satisfied that they harbor enough aether for your purposes. Whether the followers of Nhaama can be convinced to let you use them is another question. And so you head back to Mol Iloh to consult Cirina on how best to proceed.

*According to Cirina, while many Xaela tribes worship Nhaama, none are more fervent in their faith than the Dotharl. Obtaining their consent will consequently be key. While they are unlikely to grant it lightly, Hien is convinced that gaining the support of such fearless warriors will be well worth the effort. Accordingly, you set out for Dotharl Khaa to treat with the tribe's khatun, Sadu.

*In a wholly unsurprising turn of events, Sadu agrees to support Hien's cause only if you first face her in single combat. She duly bids you wait for her outside the settlement, in Nhaama's Retreat.

*Your duel has scarcely begun when Magnai -- in another wholly unsurprising turn of events -- interrupts proceedings, apparently displeased that a battle to determine the fate of the Steppe should be waged without his blessing. Incensed by Sadu's subsequent mockery, he draws his axe and charges at his Dotharl counterpart only to find Hien and Y'shtola barring his way. While they keep the Sun company, you and Sadu may resume your dance nearby.

*At the end of a furious struggle, you and your companions emerge triumphant over your respective opponents, securing the allegiance of the Dotharl and the Oronir, and sparing Hien an unsolicited initiation into the brotherhood of the Buduga. Satisfied with your work, you prepare to leave only for Magnai to accost Y'shtola wearing a curious expression. Despite trying to hack her to pieces but moments prior, the Sun is convinced that the Archon is his Nhaama, and propositions her with characteristic subtlety. Alas, his overtures are unceremoniously rejected, much to Sadu's amusement, prompting weapons to be drawn once more. Her patience spent, Y'shtola strides off back to Mol Iloh, and you and Hien follow, leaving the Xaela to their bickering.

*Cirina is pleased to hear that you have succeeded in winning over the Dotharl and the Oronir, and formally commits the Mol to Hien's nascent alliance. Though the other tribes of the Steppe must each decide for themselves, she promises to send word the moment they have given their answers.
After waiting at the designated location in Nhaama's Retreat, you will enter a solo duty where you will fight one-on-one with Sadu. It is a straightforward fight of defeating her multiple times while dodging her attacks and contraptions. Soon after, a cutscene will occur.
* After this cutscene, you will perform the second half of the duty as Y'shtola while fighting alongside Hien. Focus on Magnai while healing yourself when necessary.
* It is important to keep Hien's health up as he will fight Daidukul.
* If you focus down Daidukul before Magnai, the fight will become impossible to complete. It is best to simply let Hien handle the Buduga himself.
* Near the end of the duty, Magnai will restrain you and Hien, initiating an Active Time Manuever. Successfully complete to end the Duty.

Dialogue
Accepting the Quest
Y'shtola: It seems the time is come to put my skills to use. Pray lead the way to the House of the Crooked Coin.

At the House of the Crooked Coin
Hien: Well... it certainly looks powerful. But powerful enough? That, you'll have to ask the expert.

Y'shtola: Such an abundance of aether!

Hien: Are we in luck?

Y'shtola: We are. This is an Allagan artifact, most likely built to regulate the flow of aether.

Y'shtola: I strongly suspect the ancients used it to stem the flow from here to the Burn. That would explain how they were able to untether what became Azys Lla from its surroundings.

Y'shtola: But were we to throw open the floodgates, the resultant deluge would surely be sufficient to raise our wall. And in restoring the flow, we may also restore life to the wasteland.

Y'shtola: Hm...?

Hien: What is it?

Y'shtola: While the device itself harbors a surfeit of aether, the opposite is true of the surrounding area...

Y'shtola: An effect of regulation, perhaps? A similar phenomenon seemed to be occuring in Doma...

Y'shtola: Whatever the explanation, the answer will not reveal itself here. We have seen what we needed to see. Let us return to Mol Iloh.

Back at Mol Iloh
Y'shtola: That such an abundant source of aether should lie undisturbed for millennia... 'Tis a miracle made possible by the Steppe's long history of isolation.

Hien: Well, it looks like I was right about the pillars. Now all we need is permission to use them.

Cirina: You found that which you seek, then? Great indeed is the Dusk Mother's power. If naught less will suffice to protect our lands, the blessing of the other tribes must now be sought.

Hien: Of course. But to which tribes should we appeal?

Cirina: There are many who worship Nhaama, but none are so fervent in their faith as the Dotharl. Their consent shall be the key.

Y'shtola: The Dotharl. Lyse spoke of them. A warlike tribe possessed of unique customs and beliefs. I sense their cooperation will not be easily won.

Hien: Nay, but it will be well worth the effort. The Dotharl fear nothing -- death least of all -- and our alliance would be greatly strengthened by their presence. Let us go to Dotharl Khaa and treat with their khatun, Sadu.

Cirina: While you meet with the Dotharl, I shall send messengers to the other tribes. If Sadu can be swayed, I am certain more will follow.

Temulun: The Dusk Mother embodies love, but so too does she embody war. I pray that your meeting with Sadu will not end in blood.

At Dotharl Khaa
Hien: Despite her fondness for battle, Sadu is an astute leader. If we plead our case in earnest, I am certain she can be persuaded.

Y'shtola: Great faith gives rise to great strength -- for better or for worse. Whatever it is the Dotharl hold sacred, we would do well to accord it all respect.

Sadu: You again? Other matters demand our time, khagan. Unless it is battle you seek?

Hien: Alas not. Quite the opposite, in fact...

Sadu: Talking, always talking... You say the pillars hold great power? Of course they do. They are the source of Nhaama's strength.

Sadu: To the Dotharl, no place is more sacred, and we will make ash of any who would defile it. Though I see this is not your wish.

Hien: You see the wisdom of our proposition, then? You will join hands with us?

Sadu: I said nothing of joining hands. You wish to wield Nhaama's power to defend these lands, and this I will allow. But for leaving the Steppe to fight the men in iron I would have something in return.

Y'shtola: ...Namely?

Sadu: Namely battle. With you, khagan!

Sadu: The Naadam ended ere it began. I would face you again, alone, without distractions.

Sadu: Defeat me -- prove yourself the stronger -- and you shall have the Dotharl as your allies. Surely, these are agreeable terms?

Hien: Well, this is a... not wholly unexpected turn of events -- though I had assumed I would be the one required to fight. Alas, the khatun has made her choice.

Player: Shall we dance? / I'd rather not.

Sadu: Ha! It shall be a battle the Steppe shall not soon forget!

Sadu: Ahhh, already my soul burns brighter! Prepare yourself, khagan, and await me outside the khaa. I will gather my witnesses and join you anon.

Sadu: Why are you still here? Go. Wait for me outside the khaa. I will join you soon enough.

Y'shtola: Try as I might, I fail to see the logic in this arrangement. I can but conclude there is none.

Hien: When I was little, I would stride up to Gosetsu, wooden sword in hand, and challenge him. To his great credit, he never held back, and I had many a bump and bruise to show for it. <sigh>

Before the Battle
Sadu: Yes, this spot shall serve as well as any. I shall enjoy this, khagan!

Y'shtola: Is this truly necessary? Have you no peacable way of making decisions?

Sadu: Speak not of peace. You stand before proud warriors of the Dotharl. In the heat of battle do our souls burn brightest!

Sadu: We lay low the strong that we may rise higher!

Sadu: That is our way -- the way of might! There is no other!

Y'shtola: ...Well, they do not want for conviction.

Hien: Indeed. It's what makes them such dangerous enemies... and such useful allies.

Sadu: Enough talk! It is time to fight!

Solo Duty (First Half)
Sadu Heavensflame: Come, khagan! Let us dance!

Sadu Heavensflame: You are strong indeed... A worthy champion of the Steppe...

Sadu Heavensflame: But you are mistaken if you think I will fall so easily!

Sadu Heavensflame: Ahhh, fighting you is pure bliss!

Sadu Heavensflame: Such sweet pleasure, I will not suffer to end so soon!

Sadu Heavensflame: ...Well? Do not tell me that is all you have?

Sadu Heavensflame: My soul demands more, khagan! Give me more!

Sadu Heavensflame: <grunt> My arms... grow heavy... My eyes dim...

Sadu Heavensflame: But so long as my lifeblood flows... I will fight on!

Sadu Heavensflame: Yaaaaaarrrgh!

Sadu Heavensflame: Come! Let us begin anew!

System: 60 seconds to Meteor impact...

Sadu Heavensflame: This is the reckoning, khagan! One must fall!

System: 30 seconds to Meteor impact...

Battle Interlude
Sadu: Yes! YES! Not since the Naadam has my soul burned so!

Sadu: Come! We have only just begun!

Magnai: Enough. You were not granted leave to set the Steppe ablaze.

Hien: Well, well! The sun has come out to play!

Sadu: Begone, moonstruck Oronir! I am busy.

Magnai: Fool of a Dotharl. Have you forgotten the face of your master already? The Sun will never set! From his seat on high, he reigns over all, now and forever!

Magnai: Yet what should He find here but a battle to determine the fate of the Steppe -- a battle waged without His blessing! This will not stand!

Magnai: You, Doman. You who come to petition the warriors of this land forget that all Nhaama's children are wards of the Oronir. As first among my brothers, your petition is mine alone to judge.

Sadu: These words are as wind from a horse's backside. Plentiful. But your axe sings more sweetly. Let her speak for you.

Magnai: Insolent child. You will learn your place.

Hien: Forgive me, Brother Magnai, but we have an arrangement with the Dotharl. We will not abide any interruptions.

Magnai: So be it. The Sun will pass judgment on all. Daidukul -- join me.

Sadu: The Sun is in good company. We may dance alone.

Magnai: Beg not for mercy, for you will have none. Bear witness to the power and the glory of Azim!

Y'shtola: Constantly at each other's throats, like rabid... dogs. Gods, I'm turning into her.

Y'shtola: Ahem. I have not the patience for this. But if we must fight, let us at least be brief. Come!

Solo Duty (Second Half)
System: In the coming battle, you will fight as Y'shtola.

Magnai the Older: Come! Plead your case unto the Sun!

Hien: Oh, we shall endeavor to be most convincing!

Daidukul the Mirthful: When we have claimed victory, I claim Hien for the Buduga!

Y'shtola: <sigh> Do as you will...

Magnai the Older: You, too, must learn your place.

Hien: Focus on Magnai -- leave Daidukul to me.

Hien: Let's move this right along!

Magnai the Older: You have left yourself open, Doman!

System: See to Hien's wounds!

Hien: Ugh, this bodes ill... Y'shtola -- some healing would be welcome!

Daidukul the Mirthful: My fist swells with the passion of the Buduga! Every last drop, I give to you, Hien!

Magnai the Older: So you still stand. But soon you will kneel.

Magnai the Older: Know the folly of opposing the will of Azim!

System: The Scales of the Father take on extraordinary hardness!

Magnai the Older: These axes will not break! You have nowhere to hide!

Hien: Very well, then... Y'shtola -- to me!

System: Hurry to Hien's side!

Hien: I shall take care of this!

Magnai the Older: Hmph, predictable!

Hien: What!?

Magnai the Older: Every step you will take, every move you will make -- the Sun sees all!

Magnai the Older: Now, fall!

Y'shtola: Time to finish this!

Magnai the Older: Ungh... What strength -- what grace is this?

After the Battle
Sadu: Ahhh, never have I felt such bliss in defeat!

Sadu: 'Twas a battle to burn soul and flesh to ash. We Dotharl will lend you our strength as promised. Nhaama's power is yours to wield.

Sadu: What does the Sun say to that?

Magnai: Hmph. The Sun is not driven by base motives such as yours. But aye, they have been judged... and found worthy.

Magnai: It is the way of the Oronir to accord recognition and respect to the strong. You have made sufficient proof of your strength. The Sun shall answer your call.

Hien: You have our thanks. We are glad to call you allies.

Magnai: You. By what are you called?

Y'shtola: Y'shtola. Why?

Magnai: Are you...?

Magnai: Are you my Nhaama?

Y'shtola: I beg your pardon?

Magnai:In battle, you shone with all the majesty of the full moon's light, your healing touch the embodiment of the Dusk Mother's love.

Magnai: Long had I wondered if my Nhaama might not be a woman of the Steppe. Beholding you, I am all but certain!

Magnai: Now, look into my eyes. Could it be...? Could you be...?

Y'shtola: I am... not interested, little sun. Try again when you have become a man.

Magnai: Little...?

Sadu: Little sun! Little sun!

Sadu: Does it pain you, little sun? Crave you salve to soothe the ache? Fire to sear the wound in your heart?

Y'shtola: We have wasted enough time here. Cirina waits for word of our success.

Finishing the Quest
Y'shtola: ...Offended? Not in the least. I am no stranger to clumsy propositions, and that, believe it or not, was far from the worst I have heard.

Hien: Magnai's unannounced appearance had me worried for a moment, but it was not his day to shine. Still... I cannot fault the man's bravery.

Temulun: On the matter of Nhaama's power and the alliance, the gods have remained silent. That is their way of telling us to choose with our hearts.

Cirina: ...You had not only to contend with Sadu, but Magnai too!? Such a fierce battle that must have been. Yet here you stand, triumphant. Having passed such a test, they could not well deny you their allegiance.

Cirina: The Mol will make no such demands. Weak though we are, we will gladly stand with you. The Steppe is our home, and we will defend it with all our being.

Hien: You have my heartfelt thanks! Of all the tribes of the Steppe, there is none I would rather have at my side!

Cirina: Gods willing, many more will rally to our cause. I shall send you word when we have answers from all the tribes.

Hien: I cannot thank you enough, Cirina. None of this would have been possible without you.

After the Quest
Cirina: Though the Mol have no love for war, we love our home fiercely. Should the Steppe be threatened, we will rise up to protect it -- as will full many other tribes, I believe.

Hien: And so our alliance begins to take shape. Now, if we can just get that aether flowing again, it will have been a successful trip.
