Steps
* Speak with Lyse in the Ala Mhigan Quarter.
* Speak with Lyse.
* Speak with Krile at the Rising Stones.

Journal
*Alphinaud's face is a picture, equal parts jubilation and relief.

*Just as you are about to return to the Rising Stones, a breathless Maelstrom officer rushes up and begs the Admiral to follow him. He duly leads you to the cliffs opposite the Floating City of Nym, where you espy a strange tower which─he claims─was not there when he began his daily patrol. But it is only when the Admiral subsequently receives a linkpearl communication from Maelstrom headquarters that the scale of the problem becomes clear. It seems that many more such structures─apparently of Garlean design─have materialized across the realm. Anticipating trouble, Merlwyb bids you join the Alliance forces on the eastern front, and you set forth for the Ala Mhigan Quarter to offer Commander Hext your support.

*Lyse has scarcely finished welcoming you when an enormous dragon passes overhead, seemingly bound for the palace. Giving chase, you emerge in the Royal Menagerie, where you come face-to-face with Asahi...or rather an Ascian in his body. With a self-indulgent flourish, your foe introduces himself as Fandaniel, and declares his intent to destroy the world in a recreation of the Final Days, in which the towers will play some unspecified part. When you move to apprehend him, his dragon─the so-called “Lunar Bahamut”─sets the rooftop garden ablaze, allowing the Ascian to take his leave─but not before informing you that his patron, Lord Zenos, awaits you at the heart of the chaos...

*The mood is subdued as you reassemble before the royal palace. With little information upon which to act, Lyse proposes sending a unit to investigate the nearby tower, and at Raubahn's insistence, you decide to return to the Rising Stones to recuperate while awaiting further developments.

*You arrive at the Rising Stones to find Y'shtola returned, and exchange news of your recent endeavors. It seems that after recovering her strength, Y'shtola delivered the first litter of porxies to the Immortal Flames in Ul'dah, while Krile investigated reports that towers had been sighted not only across Eorzea, but in Yanxia in the Far East. When thoughts subsequently turn to the new draconic foe you face in Lunar Bahamut, Krile and Tataru declare their intention to seek the aid of Estinien, leaving you and the others to take what rest you can. Though it feels like your efforts to bring lasting peace to Eorzea have been overshadowed, you know that the future of the star is yet unwritten, and that you and your comrades will stop at nothing to protect it.
G'raha Tia: I daresay we could all do with a rest, Alisaie not least of all, given the amount of aether she has been expending of late.

Eynzahr: Judging by the...<grunt>...complaints my back is making, I may have overreached myself. Ah, the ravages of old age...

Alisaie: Ga Bu is wise beyond his years. It's all very well leaders signing peace treaties, but it falls to individuals to bridge the gap.

Ga Bu: If I could befriend you all, then surely other kobolds can befriend men too. And I'll do everything I can to help them. Facilitate, assist, help.
Alphinaud: Right, let's return to the Rising Stones.
Storm Officer: Admiral! Something strange is afoot at the Floating City!
Merlwyb: Breathe, man. What is it?
Storm Officer: I think it's best you see for yourself. Please come with me.
Alphinaud: What in the world is that?
:
Alisaie: A tower.
Storm Officer: You can see it too, then? I feared I was losing my wits. One moment I was patrolling as usual, and the next, it was just...there.
Merlwyb: Yes? This is she... I am... Aye. I'm looking at it.
Merlwyb: What!? Understood... Send the Elder Seedseer my regards.
Merlwyb: The communications officer. It seems this isn't the only tower. They've sprung up all across Eorzea.
Merlwyb: Nothing more is known ─ only that they appear to be of Garlean construction. Our allies on the Ala Mhigan front are on highest alert.
Merlwyb: Forgive my directness ─ but would you join them? They may well need the help.
Alphinaud: Of course, Admiral. We shall make all haste.
Merlwyb: My thanks. I will return to Limsa to weigh our response.

Alphinaud: It appears to be business as usual inside the city, but Lyse will be able to tell us if there have been any developments without.
Lyse: I'll send for Commander Aldynn at once, and we can decide what to do about these infernal towers.
Lyse: The palace! After them!

At the Royal Menagerie.

Raubahn: You're here. Good.
Fandaniel: Well, well, well, to be received by such an illustrious cast! Why, even the hero of the piece is here! I feel quite starstruck!
Alphinaud: Is that...Asahi!?
Alisaie: His body, more like. You don't fool us!
Fandaniel: You saw straight through it... Anyone would think you'd dealt with Ascians before!
Fandaniel: Permit me to introduce myself. I am Fandaniel, and may I say what a pleasure it is to finally make your acquaintance.

Fandaniel reveals his Ascian glyph.

Question: What will you say?
> What do you want?
> The towers - what are they for?
---

Fandaniel: My, straight to business, is it? Suit yourself...
Fandaniel: It is my intention to recreate the Final Days, to which end I have distributed a collection of rather ingenious devices ─ or “towers”─which will, in time, give rise to the grandest of spectacles!
Alphinaud: The Final Days...? But it was the Ascians who labored to prevent them!
Fandaniel: You're quite right! Though I would expect no less from one responsible for eliminating my unsundered colleagues.
Fandaniel: Honestly, the three of them were obsessed with restoring the one true world. As a sovereign individual, however, I never had much interest in such things. I mean, why bother when you're just another sundered minion?
Fandaniel: Admittedly, Elidibus was not convinced by that argument. But thanks to you, I'm finally free of his incessant nagging!
Fandaniel: Free to use my powers as I see fit! To fulfill my heart's desire!
Fandaniel: And my heart's desire is to lay this half-broken world to waste, leaving nary a fleck of dust behind!
Alisaie: What!? Why would you want such a thing!?
Fandaniel: Because I want wretched creatures who ask such meaningless questions to die!
Fandaniel: You!
Fandaniel: And you!
Fandaniel: And you!
Fandaniel: I want you all to die!
Fandaniel: And I want to die too! Oh yes, I want to die and take everyone with me in a paroxysm of pain and suffering!
Fandaniel: I'm different, you see. From the ancients who clung to dear life. And from you.
Fandaniel: So don't bother trying to reason with me. You will find I have no reason. Or creed. Or any such tripe.
Fandaniel: I just want to destroy the world. But please do resist with all your might. It will add to my enjoyment.
Fandaniel: Now then, ladies and gentlemen! Keep your eyes peeled, for the curtains have risen on the spectacle to end all spectacles!
Fandaniel: We, the Telophoroi, shall be your performers, and this very star our stage!

Fandaniel teleports away. The dragon attacks with a purple flame breath, staggering the party. Fandaniel slowly walks toward the party.

Fandaniel: Ah, but I nearly forgot! I have a message for you. Ahem! My esteemed patron, Lord Zenos, eagerly awaits you at the heart of the chaos.
Fandaniel: While I wish only to destroy the world, he exists solely to relive a certain...transcendent moment with you, and it is for that reason he would reduce all to ash.
Fandaniel: Pray see to it his dreams do not go unfulfilled. For if you should disappoint him...
Fandaniel: My trusty companion here ─ whom I've dubbed “Lunar Bahamut” ─ will burn your cities and everyone in them.

Fandaniel withdraws. Lunar Bahamut flies away.

Raubahn: Everyone out. My men will tend to the blaze.
-cutscene end

-optional start
Raubahn: Our scouts report that the Ascian and his dragon have left Gyr Abania. It seems this was purely a social visit.

G'raha Tia: What part could these towers feasibly play in the Telophoroi's plans, do you think?
G'raha Tia: I for one am at a loss. For now, we should bear word of these developments to the others. I only hope Thancred and Urianger are safe.

Alphinaud: Though our objectives were different, I could understand why Elidibus and his fellows acted as they did. But Fandaniel?
Alphinaud: It will take me some time to make sense of it all...if indeed there is any sense to be found.

Alisaie: Are you all right, [Forename]? The rest of us are fine if a little singed.
Alisaie: That dragon let us off lightly. Honestly, though ─ only a madman would choose the name “Lunar Bahamut.” Which just about sums up Fandaniel, I suppose...
-optional end

Speak with Lyse
Lyse: Thank goodness everyone's safe... We've managed to put out the fire, though not quickly enough to save the garden.
Lyse: Raubahn ─ can I leave it to you to send word to the Alliance?
Lyse: I'm going to take a unit and investigate the tower. We need to find out what it's for.
Alisaie: We'll go with you.
Raubahn: No you won't. You'll rest. From what Merlwyb tells me, you're due some time off duty.
Raubahn: Should we learn anything about the tower, we'll be sure to share it with you. Until then, I want you to rest.
Alisaie: ...Very well. But if you need our help, don't hesitate. And take care. Both of you.

-optional start
Raubahn: If an Ascian is on the prowl, it will not be long before we call on you and yours again. Rest now, while you still can.

Lyse: So you really did it ─ you found a cure for tempering! Oh, it makes me want to do something heroic, right now! Speaking of which, I'd better get ready and set out for the tower!

At the Rising Stones
G'raha Tia: Though my new...or rather old...by which I mean young... Ahem. Though this body has a good deal more stamina than the one I wore out in the First, I confess I've been looking forward to a moment's respite. We've had a busy few days, have we not?

Alisaie: Y'shtola returned just before us. And it seems she knows about the towers too.

Alphinaud: Ah, how good it feels to come home to the Rising Stones. It's here my heart feels most at peace, and my mind the clearest.

Y'shtola: It would seem you have had quite an eventful time in my absence. But I am fully rested now and ready for more.

Tataru: Welcome back, [Forename]! Make yourself comfortable, and let me know if I can get you anything.
-optional end

Speak with Krile at the Rising Stones
Krile: Ah, you're back too. Good. We've received the reports from the Alliance.
Krile: Since we are all here, perhaps those who bore witness to the events in Ala Mhigo could treat the rest of us to a firsthand account?

-cutscene start
Y'shtola: No sooner do we overcome one problem than another appears. It would all seem tediously predictable but for the endless variety of our foes. This Fandaniel sounds even more unhinged than his patron.
Alphinaud: Unhinged, perhaps, but no fool. For all his pantomime theatrics, he gave away little about his plot. We know only that he intends to recreate the Final Days, and that the towers will somehow facilitate this.
Question
Alisaie: He also called his dragon “Lunar Bahamut.” Let's not forget that little detail.
> If the player has completed Alisaie's Pledge
Alisaie: And the creature certainly did resemble the elder primal.
> Otherwise
Alisaie: And the creature did resemble the descriptions I've seen of the elder primal
---
G'raha Tia: That may be...but the fact that it answered to Fandaniel would suggest they are not one and the same entity. I think it more probable that it is some manner of simulacrum born of Ascian magicks.
Alphinaud: Whatever it is, for now we can but work closely with the Alliance and remain vigilant.
Alphinaud: I believe that concludes our news. What of yours, Y'shtola?
Y'shtola: I have been to see the sultana. Knowing how quick the Immortal Flames are to dispose of their tempered, I judged it best to provide them with the cure first.
Y'shtola: As soon as I had sufficiently recovered, I traveled to Ul'dah and delivered the porxies to Her Grace, along with detailed instructions on their use.
Y'shtola: Yet my visit chanced to coincide with the arrival of some troubling tidings. The Immortal Flames had been on the cusp of agreeing to a truce with the Amalj'aa when negotiations abruptly collapsed.
Y'shtola: The Amalj'aa claim that a number of their kind have been abducted...and that men are responsible.
Y'shtola: Naught is known of the perpetrators as yet. But as the Immortal Flames went about investigating the abductions, they came upon one of Fandaniel's towers.
Krile: On the subject of the towers, you may be interested to learn that they are not an exclusively Eorzean phenomenon. According to the Alliance, they have been sighted as far afield as Yanxia.
Alphinaud: Then it would seem reasonable to assume that they are everywhere. We simply have not found them.
Krile: Well, as you said yourself, we can do little for now save remain vigilant. And since we are dealing with a dragon ─ ostensibly, at least ─ I believe it would behoove us to enlist the aid of an authority on such foes.
Tataru: Estinien!
Alphinaud: Estinien? Now just a moment... If he could be persuaded to lend us his lance, I would be the first to welcome it, but the truth is, we will struggle even to find him.
Tataru: Hehe! You let me and Krile worry about that. We'll sniff him out, no matter where he's hiding!
Krile: If indeed he is hiding. We have ways of locating him, regardless. So if there are no objections, we shall depart at once.

Krile and Tataru waves goodbye and sets off.

Alisaie: Well, rather than sitting around, I think I might go to each of the city-states and educate them in the use of the porxies.
Alphinaud: They would doubtless appreciate it. But might you consider taking a moment to rest before leaving? You would be fresher for the tasks ahead.
G'raha Tia: Well, my friend...our moment of triumph did not last long.

Question: What will you say?
> 'Twas ever the way. The world often needs saving.
G'raha Tia: And save it we shall. I for one do not intend to allow a nihilistic madman to take us all to the grave with him. Not when the future holds such promise.
G'raha Tia: Nay, I will do all in my power to protect those whom I hold dear. Just as you always have done.
> Oh dear. Are you not enjoying our adventure?
G'raha Tia: Come now, I didn't say that. While it may not be the most carefree experience, there is nothing in this world I would rather do than write a new future with you.
G'raha Tia: A long future, mind, whatever the Telophoroi might hope. We'll stop them, won't we. Together.
> And I really could have done with a rest...
G'raha Tia: Then why not have one now? If anything happens, I promise I will come and wake you.
G'raha Tia: As much as I enjoy our adventures together, I am conscious of the toll they take. So let us gather our strength while we can, that we might rise to the challenges of the unwritten future.
Fandaniel: Moreover, I am pleased to report that preparations are well underway for the rest. Ere long, chaos shall reign over all the land ─ as befits the Final Days.
Fandaniel: Of course, my lord. By strange coincidence, your dear friend chanced to be present when I made my declaration.
Fandaniel: I took the liberty of informing that you await coming. Though, I confess, I may have singed a little in the process.
Zenos yae Galvus: And why do you tell me this? Are you in such a hurry to die?
Fandaniel: Ah, my apologies. I must guard my tongue lest it be the end of me.
Fandaniel: Though...there is something to be said for such a glorious death. Better to fall to one who has it all than falter before an inferior... I shall keep it in mind as a contingency.
Fandaniel: For now, however, I shall proceed with the plan. My lord.

Journal
*Gaia is more than a little vexed that your last outing did not result in greater changes in the Empty.

*The flora of the Empty still shows little sign of returning to life in spite of your recent efforts in rebalancing the ambient aether. Suddenly, an Ascian appears before you and claims to be Mitron. After being defeated by Ardbert and the other Warriors of Light a hundred years ago, the Ascian was transformed into Eden and unleashed the Flood of Light. Your attempts to revive the Empty had actually served to weaken the bonds of Light that once held Mitron, who is now capable of far more than simply whispering to Gaia as the voice in her head. However, before you are able to unravel any of the mysteries that yet remain, the servant of Zodiark retreats to Eden's core, inviting you all to follow if you wish to learn more.

*In addition to the sudden appearance of an Ascian, another worrying problem presents itself: the worsening of Gaia's amnesia. She now has no recollection whatsoever of Thancred and Urianger, and it seems to be more than mere coincidence that this has occurred alongside Mitron's arrival. In the hope of preventing any further memory loss, you resolve to make your way to Eden's core, aware that you may very well be walking into a trap.

*You arrive in Eden's core, where Mitron states that you will reenact the climactic encounter that took place a hundred years ago between the Warriors of Light and the Shadowkeeper. This appears to be an elaborate scheme to awaken Gaia's dormant memories, though the Ascian provides no hint as to how she is connected to events that occurred long before her birth. Gaia herself vehemently refuses to cooperate in any such plan, which succeeds only in sending the Ascian into a blind rage, culminating in Gaia being spirited away by arcane magicks. Mitron issues a final challenge to defeat the Shadowkeeper, then vanishes from sight.

*With Gaia at Mitron's mercy, you have no choice but to obey. Ryne agrees that although the situation is dire, there may yet be an opportunity to rescue her. However, you must first confront the stygian foe that Ardbert and his comrades once vanquished, taking on the role of a Warrior of Light from days past.

*After a hard-fought struggle, you finally overcome the ferocious Shadowkeeper. Upon being transported back to Eden's core, you are surprised to see that Gaia has also returned, seemingly none the worse for wear.

*There appears to have been some truth in Mitron's claims that reenacting the battle fought by the Warriors of Light would restore Gaia's memories. She cannot escape the feeling that she has somehow witnessed these events before, a phenomenon that the Ascian is only too glad to elucidate. A hundred years ago, Mitron and Loghrif were tasked with carrying out Emet-Selch's plan to flood the world with Light and thus trigger a Rejoining, only to be defeated by Ardbert and his companions. Though the two Ascians had combined their strength by merging into a single entity, Ardbert's Light-infused final blow shattered the bonds that held them together, destroying Loghrif instantly. Mitron, however, was engulfed in Light before being able to escape to the void, and was transformed into Eden, the first sin eater, and thereby causing the Flood of Light. In the years that followed, Mitron remained trapped within Eden, desperately calling out to Loghrif, who had since been reborn. It is then that the Ascian reveals the awful truth: that Gaia is the reincarnation of Loghrif.
Mitron@Cutscene: For a hundred long years, I have waited for this moment!
Gaia: I knew it! You've been hiding inside Eden all this time!
Ryne: An Ascian!
Mitron: I am Mitron, servant of Zodiark.
Gaia: The voice that has whispered to me all my life...
Mitron: Indeed... And thanks to you, I am all but free from my prison of Light!
Ryne: Does that mean Eden was used to seal away an Ascian?
Ryne: Wait... That is Eden! An Ascian transformed into a sin eater!
Gaia: Hmph. I've heard enough about Ascians to know they're nothing but trouble. But I never imagined that one of them was behind all this...
Gaia: I thought that restoring the Darkness was my idea, but this was your plan from the very beginning!
Mitron: It was. But all it took was the slightest suggestion. The rest was entirely your own doing.
Mitron: Ah... My freedom is so close, I can almost taste it... Finally, my soul may journey beyond the flesh to which I am yet bound.
Mitron: I knew you would come for me, Gaia.
Gaia: Hmph, don't flatter yourself. You've caused me nothing but pain. If I've helped you, it wasn't intentional.
Mitron: Even now, your memories elude you. Hearken unto me, Gaia, and remember...
-cutscene end
-cutscene start
Mitron: In an age past, the world you know as the Thirteenth was flooded by Darkness. Like ripples in water, the repercussions were felt in the other shards, none more so than here on the First. It became perilously imbalanced and susceptible to the influence of Light.
Mitron: Were Light to consume the First as Darkness did the Thirteenth, it would likewise become a lifeless void, lost to our cause. We could not allow this mistake to be repeated. It was our duty to safeguard this world from the selfsame fate.
Mitron: After a time, Emet-Selch conceived of a plan to trigger a Rejoining, utilizing the very Light we had labored to keep in check, and tasked us with bringing the plan to fruition.
Mitron: But at the last, we were thwarted by Ardbert and his companions. Though our resolve was strong, theirs was stronger still. And as we fell, so too was the Light unleashed.
Mitron: For us, however, death is not the end. Though our bodies may perish, our souls live on, withdrawing but temporarily to the rift.
Ryne: Until you can find a new body to possess...
Mitron: I too would have been reborn. But ere my soul could leave its corporeal form, Ardbert struck me with a blade of purest Light. And that Light enveloped my body, twisting it beyond recognition.
Gaia: Eden...the first sin eater.
Mitron: My soul felt such agony as I had never known...and then I knew no more.
Mitron: In my insensate, instinctive state, influenced by Ardbert's fervent desire to banish Darkness, I unleashed the Light burgeoning within me. And it spread as an all-consuming wave to every corner of the world.
Ryne: The Flood of Light... So, that's how sin eaters came to be...
Mitron: All would have been lost had not the one called Minfilia appeared. Halting the Light's inexorable advance, she saved what little still remained of the world.
Mitron: In the process, she also restored to me a sliver of my consciousness, though I remained trapped in my altered form. Motionless, I was capable only of feeble whispering.
Ryne: Emet-Selch ─ couldn't he have saved you?
Mitron: Perhaps he could have, if such had been his wish. Far easier, however, to simply find another piece of my fractured soul to replace me.
Mitron: From his perspective, there was no need to intervene and potentially disturb the balance of aether. And so here I remained.
Gaia: So after you failed, he left you here to rot. Some friend he turned out to be.
Mitron: Thus abandoned, I called out for what seemed like an eternity to the only soul who could save me: you, Gaia.
Gaia: All this time, you were calling to me for help?
Mitron: Yes, but you had forgotten me. Forgotten our duty. Though vestiges of your true power remained, you could not wield it at will.
Mitron: Time went by, and eventually change came. The Light began to subside and the dark of night returned.
Mitron: Gradually, my voice grew stronger until I was able to exert my will over you.
Gaia: You wanted me to free your soul from Eden, which is why you had me attack it. Another plan that ended in failure, thanks to [Forename].
Mitron: Indeed. Thankfully, your subsequent attempts to restore this barren land allowed Eden to absorb more and more aether aligned closer to Darkness, gradually eroding the cage of Light that holds me.
Mitron: Owing to your most recent efforts, my mind is wholly my own once more, and I am able to project my image beyond those confines.
Ryne: Then all this time we've been helping to free an Ascian!?
Gaia: Hmph. That's a fine tale, but why should I care about any of it?
Gaia: What are you to me?
Mitron: Come with me to Eden's core. There, all shall become clear.
Gaia: W-Wait!
-cutscene end

Speak with Ryne
-optional start
Gaia: I have a bad feeling about this, but if we want to restore the land, we need to know what we're dealing with...
-optional end
-cutscene start
Ryne: I've just realized something. If Eden has been absorbing all that rebalanced aether, that must be why we've struggled to restore life to the Empty. I suppose we can think about that later, though.
Ryne: More importantly, it seems I've lost control over Eden, most likely because of the Ascian. Urianger specifically warned us about not listening to the faerie's “honeyed words,” so we'd better think this through before we go rushing in.
Ryne: Oh, if only he and Thancred were here now...
Gaia: What are you talking about?
Ryne: I'm sorry, Gaia. I shouldn't be so quick to lose heart.
Gaia: What? No, that's not what I meant. Who are Urianger and Thancred?
Gaia: Wait... I know those people. I'm sure of it. But why can't I remember them?
Ryne: Hmm... I thought something was strange when I mentioned the festival onboard Eden. It was as though you had no recollection of our earlier conversation. This is most likely connected to Mitron...
Gaia: Damn it all! What more is that fiend going to take from me!?
Ryne: To tell the truth, the thing that frightens me most...is that you might forget about us.
Gaia: That won't happen. For every memory I lose, we'll make two more together.
Gaia: And if I need to know something, I can just ask you! Why not start by telling me about Urianger and Thancred? To be honest, my nerves are all ajitter, so I need something to help me settle down before we confront Mitron.
Ryne: Urianger is probably the most intelligent person I know. He spends a lot of time reading, but he also says that you can't learn everything from books, and encouraged me to go out and see the world for myself.
Gaia: Sounds sensible to me. Much better to experience things firsthand than to read about someone else's. Like those coffee biscuits. No book could ever describe how good they taste.
Gaia: Is there anything else you can tell me about him, [Forename]?
Question: What will you say?
> He is devoted to the study of prophecies.
Gaia: Prophecies are funny things, if you ask me. If people know that something terrible is going to happen, they'll go and prevent it — Which would make the prophecy untrue.
Ryne: Hee hee! I wonder what Urianger would say to that!
> He can walk on water, until he can't...
Gaia: So he walks on water instead of swimming? That would certainly save you from getting wet... I should've asked him to teach me how.
Ryne: Well, it's something he never quite mastered himself, and he often ended up getting wet anyway. In fact, the whole thing is probably more trouble than it's worth!
---
Ryne: As for Thancred, he's the one who freed me from Eulmore. At first, I thought of him as my knight in shining armor, but really, he was much more than that. We traveled all over Norvrandt and he helped me become the person I am today. He even gave me my name!
Question: What will you say?
> He's also an expert in infiltration.
Gaia: That would explain how he was able to sneak into Eulmore and rescue the damsel in distress, just like in the songs.
Ryne: Hmph, I'm hardly a damsel in distress! ...Well, I suppose I was back then. But Thancred taught me how to fight and survive.
> His gift for song won the heart of many a fair lady, or so he claims...
Ryne: Singing? That doesn't sound like the Thancred I know.
Gaia: It seems he has a way with words. That must be how he was able to choose such a pretty name for you.
---
Ryne: Actually, while we're on the subject, that gunblade over there belonged to Thancred.
Ryne: As far as mementos go, it's a bit on the cumbersome side, but it reminds me of our adventures together. Even though there's little chance I'll ever see him again, it still feels like he's here with me.
Gaia: Keeping your memories close...
Gaia: You know what? I should keep a diary. Even if I forget everything, at least I will have something to look back on.
Ryne: That's a brilliant idea! Since we're going to be making lots of new memories together, maybe I could write in it too?
Gaia: As long as you improve your handwriting before you go scrawling all over it. I'd like your entries to be vaguely legible, if you don't mind.
Ryne: Haha! Of course, your ladyship!
Gaia: But before that, we've got an Ascian to deal with. Let's get this over with!
-cutscene end

Enter Eden's core
-optional start
Ryne: When I think back on the days I spent with everyone, it's always the tiny, frivolous details that spring to mind.
Ryne: The smiles, the little gestures... It's not as though I made a conscious effort to remember them, but they stuck with me all the same.
Ryne: I suppose that's what memories are ─ a collection of all those seemingly insignificant moments. While they may not have made a huge difference in the grand scheme of things, they mean the world to me.

Gaia: It was good to hear about our friends...but I still have no recollection of them whatsoever.
Gaia: It's just like all those things Mitron was saying. How can I even tell if they're true or not if I don't remember?
Gaia: There's no point dwelling on it, though. Nothing for it but to press on.
-optional end
-cutscene start
Gaia: We came as you asked, so start talking.
Mitron: Why settle for mere words when I offer something far greater? Eden will now afford you a glimpse of the past. More than a glimpse, in fact. It will be as real as any of the foes you yourselves have conjured forth.
Ryne: Conjured forth? Wait, you don't mean to perform a summoning, do you!?
Mitron: I do. I shall recreate the battle of a hundred years past, which pitted Ardbert and his fellow Warriors of Light against their nemesis, the Shadowkeeper.
Question: What will you say?
> Just as Emet-Selch recreated the Final Days of Amaurot...
Mitron: Is that so? It seems much and more has occurred during my absence. No doubt he employed creation magicks to breathe life into his recollections of the past
> So who will play the part of Ardbert?
Mitron: Whomsoever you choose, though his skill and strength will not be easily matched.
> Their nemesis... you mean Cylva. (If the player has completed Shadow Walk with Me)
Mitron: That you should know that name... The true identity of the Shadowkeeper, emissary of chaos.
---
Gaia: And what do you hope to achieve with this history lesson of yours?
Mitron: You shall see. You shall remember. Now, your very soul will revisit that fateful day a hundred years ago.
Ryne: Gaia, you can't trust Mitron! If you do, you'll end up being manipulated again!
Gaia: Ryne...
Gaia: You're right. My days of being controlled by this demon are over. I have a new life now, and I won't let anyone take that away from me.
Gaia: My will is my own! You have no hold over me!
Mitron: This is all your doing, accursed minions of Light! I should be the one at her side! Not you or anyone else! I will take her beyond the reach of your poisonous influence and keep her safe!
Ryne: What have you done with Gaia!?
Mitron: Nothing yet. But soon I will restore her to her true self. And you will help me to do so, by conquering the adversary I present before you.
-cutscene end

Speak with Ryne
-cutscene start
Ryne: I knew it was risky trusting an Ascian, but we played right into Mitron's hands!
Question: What will you say?
> We'll do whatever it takes to save Gaia.
Ryne: Agreed. There's no telling what kind of danger she's in, but wherever she is, I know she's giving her all. Even though we're apart, we'll fight as one.
Ryne: Together, we'll bring an end to Mitron's wicked schemes!
> There's no choice but to do as Mitron says.
Ryne: Perhaps, but i doubt that'll be the end of it. It's clear that Mitron has no intention of returning Gaia to us, but there may yet be a opportunity to free her. "In the chaos of conflict, one can always find an opening to exploit."
Ryne: Of course, its always the conflict part that comes first. But if Ardbert was able to overcome this foe, then so can you!
---
Ryne: It looks like Mitron's grip on Eden has loosened somewhat, perhaps to allow me to send you to the battlefield.
Ryne: Once you get there, don't let your guard down. While this may be a reenactment of a moment in history, the threat you face is very real. Whatever happens, you must make it through this. Gaia's counting on us!
-cutscene end
-optional start
Ryne: I wish i knew more about this Shadowkeeper. Then at least we'd be a little better prepared. All I can say is, please be careful
-optional end

:===After Eden's Promise: Litany===
-optional start
Gaia: Why...does this all seem so...familiar? Ungh!
-optional end
Ryne: Mitron's returned Gaia to us, but I've a feeling this isn't over yet...
-quest complete
-cutscene start
Gaia: The Warriors of Light... The Shadowkeeper... I've seen this all before.
Mitron: Yes! You and I joined our power as one to create the Shadowkeeper. We bore witness to its battle with the Warriors of Light.
Gaia: Our power? So I was there...and I wasn't alone...
Ryne: No, Gaia! It's not true, it can't be! How can you have been there a hundred years ago!?
Mitron: Look deep inside ─ you know it was real. Cast aside those worthless memories and embrace who you truly are!
Gaia: ...Worthless?
Gaia: Now I see. This is why you've been tampering with my memories ever since I was a child...
Mitron: Just so. And now, I possess the means to purge them entirely. Your rebirth will finally be complete!
Gaia: You have no right to deny me a life, to rob me of what I hold most precious! My memories may seem worthless to you, but not to me.
Gaia: I will never be yours. My place is here. In this world, in this life, in this moment. Wherever my friends are, that is where I belong!
Mitron: Then you would turn your back on our glorious past? On the lives we once lived?
Gaia: Any past I may have shared with you is long gone. I live in the here and now, striving to build a better future. And I'll be damned if I let you take that away from me!
Mitron: To be reunited at long last, only to be shunned...
Mitron: Would that I had died with you... To be reborn.
Mitron: Even without knowledge of your past, we may yet forge a future together.
Gaia: I'm sick of your riddles. Speak plainly or not at all.
Mitron: You and I fought the Warriors of Light as one, joined in both body and soul. When Ardbert struck his final blow, the Light tore through the bonds that held us. Though you perished, I was condemned to a far worse fate.
Mitron: My flesh became my prison, and I was cursed to remain here, an abomination, while you lived on with others at your side... I will suffer it no more! You belong to me!
Ryne: I, too, was once held against my will, robbed of my freedom. To be trapped and alone for a hundred years... I can't begin to imagine the pain you must have felt.
Ryne: But that doesn't give you the right to deny Gaia a chance at happiness!
Mitron: We once knew happiness ─ true happiness, until fate conspired to tear us apart. I will never let that happen again. We shall be joined as one, my memories yours. Together for all eternity!
Gaia: Th-The Darkness... It's rising within me!
Ryne: That mark...!
Gaia: What is this? Why am I...?
Gaia: Hold on, Gaia! Whatever it is, you mustn't give in!

Gaia: Who are you?
Mitron: Yes, yes! Now nothing will keep you from me!
Mitron: I am yours, and you are mine!
Ascian Prime: We are one. We remember.
Ryne: So it's true!? Gaia really is a reincarnated Ascian!?
Ascian Prime: The girl you once knew is no more. The Ascian who held the seat of Loghrif is all that remains. Gaia is her true name.
-cutscene end
-cutscene start
Mitron: Oh, Loghrif, how long has it been... How long have I dreamed of this day.
Loghrif: Is that you, Mitron? Forgive me, I didn't recognize you...
Loghrif: In my defense, my memories have only recently been restored. My mind is still a little hazy.
Mitron: Hardly surprising. No matter how many times we are reborn, it is disorienting to have everything change around you.
Mitron: Even so, I immediately recognized your resplendent soul. And I cling to the hope that one day you will likewise remember mine. You always were a forgetful one.
Loghrif: I could never forget you. Try as I might.
Loghrif: But tell me, what do you know of my past? I admit, my memory may need refreshing...
Mitron: We served together as members of the Convocation of Fourteen, dedicated to the summoning of Lord Zodiark.
Mitron: Although the task assigned to you eventually fell to Elidibus.
Loghrif: Yes, I remember. Amidst the chaos and despair, you never left my side. My loyal protector...
Mitron: But in the end, it was in vain... I was powerless to prevent Hydaelyn from tearing our world asunder.
Loghrif: So I heard from Emet-Selch. We labor to make our world whole again. That's why he restored my memories, so that I can play my part.
Mitron: Our part. Alone we struggle, but by joining your power with mine, we may yet succeed.
Loghrif: My power? Hmph. You always were one for flattery.
Mitron: Oh, I assure you, I am quite sincere. It would be my honor to serve the cause alongside you. And I shan't take no for an answer.
Loghrif: The honor is mine. For as much as I chide and tease you, you are everything to me. My inspiration. When I'm with you, I fear nothing. Promise me...that we'll never be parted again.
Mitron: I promise. Even should fate conspire to separate us, I will reach out to you, wherever you may be.
Loghrif: And I will come running.
-cutscene end
-cutscene start
Ascian Prime: We were destined to find each other. To awaken our buried past and be born anew.
Ascian Prime: Though our brethren employ crystals to return sundered souls to their office, without them, such a feat was beyond my reach. But by becoming one in mind and body, my memories are yours. At last, you have awoken.
Ascian Prime: Now, the time has come to restore our world to the utopia it once was.
Ryne: Let Gaia go!
Ascian Prime: You are not worthy to speak that name!
Ascian Prime: If you must call her anything, use the name chosen by her parents, if you even know what that is.
Ryne: No. To me, her name is Gaia.
Ryne: And nothing you say about her makes any difference to me. I don't care if she's an Ascian. She's my friend!
Ascian Prime: Was your friend. Never again will she answer to your cries.
Question: What will you say?
> We won't give up on her!
> We'll break the shackles that bind her!
---
Ryne: Your wicked schemes have gone far enough. We're taking Gaia back!
Ascian Prime: Accursed servants of Light... You will not tear us apart again.
Ryne: What...is this!? Visions in my mind... A summoning!?
Ascian Prime: All your hopes and fears, turned against you. There is no escape from your past...
Hemitheos: Hesperos
A very straightforward fight with numerous simple to handle attacks that can one-shot players if not handled properly.

*Elegant Evisceration - Tankbuster

*Setting the Stage - Hesperos drops a curtain on one, three, or four quarters of the field. After a short time the curtain glows red, then disappears, revealing one of four elemental quadrants he uses for his next attack. Setting the Stage itself deals no damage.

-----

*Pinax - One of the four elemental wells flares with power. Then an attack lands depending on what well discharged. Touching one of the wells will also inflict a status effect: Electrocution for lightning, Dropsy for water, Pollen for poison, and Burns for lava.

If the lightning quadrant activates, he is preparing Levinstrike Mekhane. This is a proximity-based attack focused on the center of the arena. Move to a corner to take as little damage as possible. This version of the attack is always the first one seen.

If the water quadrant activates, he is preparing Well Mekhane. This is a knockback focused on the center of the arena. This is always the second version of the attack to appear.

If the poison quadrant activates, he is preparing Acid Mekhane, which will place spread markers on everyone. Players cannot survive more than one of these attacks, so spreading out is crucial. This is always the third version of the attack to appear.

If the lava quadrant activates, he is preparing Lava Mekhane, which will place a stack marker on a random raid member. This version of the attack will not appear until all others have been seen.

-----

*Decollation - Heavy raidwide damage.

*Hell Skewer - Straight line AoE in front of Hesperos.

* <Direction> Shift - Hesperos puts a marker on the edge of the arena, in the direction indicated. If there is a sword over the marker, he'll do an extremely wide cone attack that hits the entire field. This attack deals extreme damage and is a one shot kill on anyone who already has a vulnerability stack. If there is a cloak over the marker, he'll do a knockback from the marker that hits the entire field. This attack pushes anyone who isn't directly in front of the marker into the spikes, killing them.

* Bloodrake - Hesperos drains the aether from everyone, doing moderate raidwide damage. Then he does one of two attacks.

*Belone Coils - Four meteor circles appear in the center of the arena, each marked with a crossed-out role icon. At least one player must take each meteor, but players who take a meteor matching their role icon will be killed. Each meteor not successfully caught will inflict one vuln stack.

*Belone Bursts - Green orbs appear around the outskirts of the arena, and each one will tether to a player. Like the meteor circles, these orbs will be marked with anti-role icons. Players must pop orbs of other roles, but each one touched will inflict one stack of Thrice-come Ruin, which will wear off shortly after the mechanic resolves.

As the fight progresses, Hesperos will start combining Setting the Stage with Bloodrake, meaning players will have to perform Pinax and Belone mechanics simultaneously.
Hesperos: Scurry, vermin, ere my blade finds your bellies...
Hesperos: This chlamys is no mere affectation, I assure you!
Hesperos: A rat in a maze is amusing at first, but it is still a rat—vermin to be disposed of.
Hesperos: My aether consume you!
Hesperos: Relinquish your aether!
Hesperos's belone absorbs aether!
Accepting the quest
Alphinaud: We mustn't dally here any longer, [Forename]. If Beq Lugg is to hear the truth of our travails in the First, you of all people should be present.

Returning to the Ocular at the Crystarium (Cutscene)
Beq Lugg: I'm sorry... You mean to tell me not only that the return of night was your doing...
Beq Lugg: ...But that you hail from another world as well!?

Crystal Exarch: Everything we told you─of the Source, the shards, the seven Umbral Calamities─all of it is true.
Crystal Exarch: I realize how fantastical it sounds, and I would not blame you for doubting our testimony...
Crystal Exarch: But given your expertise, you must surely have noted the peculiar nature of their souls.

Beq Lugg: Any other time, and I would have dismissed your stories as balderdash and flummery. But upon closer inspection, 'tis plain their souls are far denser than is normal. And that they do not possess true bodies.
Beq Lugg: Save you. Your body is your own.
Beq Lugg: And your soul is the densest of them all.

Crystal Exarch: As I said before, were it not for their heroism, the skies over Norvrandt would still be awash with Light, the realm yet at the mercy of Vauthry and the sin eaters.
Crystal Exarch: After all they have done for our home, seeing them safely back to their own seems the very least we can do.

Beq Lugg: Your tale is intriguing. Yes, very intriguing indeed. Simply to hear it is fitting payment in itself.
Beq Lugg: As for your friends...I can but agree. Their valorous deeds on behalf of Norvrandt are deserving of recognition. Of their own fitting payment.

Crystal Exarch: You will help us, then?

Beq Lugg: I will. I would see my knowledge put to good use for a change.
Beq Lugg: I do have one condition, however. I am not the spry young Nu Mou I once was. As such, I will require assistance in my fieldwork and testing.

Alphinaud: It would be our pleasure. We will be laboring for our own benefit, after all.

Optional
Alphinaud: Beq Lugg has a fine eye. Though we have yet to begin, I rather think the Exarch was right to call on them.

Alisaie: I sometimes forget we're not truly here in the First. It will be good to be whole again...

Crystal Exarch: Fortunately for us, Beq Lugg is of a mind to see you and your fellow Scions justly compensated for your efforts.

Y'shtola: Did you happen to notice the magicked brooms strewn about the Grand Cosmos? Uncanny.

Speaking with Beq Lugg (Cutscene)
Beq Lugg: You have spun quite a tale. But tell me─have you given any thought as to how you might return to your world?
Beq Lugg: ...White auracite, you say? An intriguing proposition.
Beq Lugg: But one which fails to account for the present state of your souls.
Beq Lugg: They have become highly charged, likely as a consequence of having maintained tangible forms for so long. In such an energetic, unstable state, there is no telling what may happen to their souls within the auracite. They could very well become immutable to transference, never to be restored to their bodies.

Y'shtola: Then...would it be possible to force our souls into a state of dormancy, prior to transference?

Beq Lugg: In theory, yes. But the soul is not a candle to be snuffed out and relit on a whim.

Alisaie: Well, that sounds ominous. What exactly would rendering our souls dormant entail?

Beq Lugg: In order to maintain a corporeal form, your souls constantly draw aether from your surroundings. This process must be halted, and the resulting surfeit of aether removed.
Beq Lugg: Your minds would ultimately be separated from these faux bodies of yours, rendering you incapable of interacting with the world around you. A cruel fate under normal circumstances, but one which will be rectified upon your return home.

Alisaie: Leaving lifeless husks... Like those poor souls at the Inn at Journey's Head─corrupted by the sin eaters, their aether made stagnant by the Light.

Beq Lugg: Corrupted? Stagnant...?
Beq Lugg: Might I see these unfortunate individuals?

Crystal Exarch: Why? Do you think you might be able to help them?

Beq Lugg: I might...or I might not. But I shan't know for sure until I have seen their condition firsthand.

Alisaie: Then I would be glad to take you to them...on the understanding that you won't do anything which might increase their suffering.

Beq Lugg: It was my faith in man I lost, not my compassion.

Y'shtola: Well, I see no need for all of us to accompany you. While you escort our guest to the Inn, I will assist Urianger in creating the requisite auracite.

Crystal Exarch: I believe my talents would be better applied to that endeavor as well. Might I leave the three of you to assist Beq Lugg as necessary?

Alphinaud: Let us make for Amh Araeng, then.

Optional
Y'shtola: Urianger is more than capable of creating the auracite on his own, but if aught should go awry, I would be on hand to assist him.

Crystal Exarch: It pains me that there are those who yet suffer despite our victory over the Light. We must hope a way can be found to help both them and our friends.

Alisaie: Beq Lugg told me they wished to meet the worst afflicted. Halric... <sigh> There are times when I swear there's something he wants to tell me, if only he could form the words.

Alphinaud: Having broken Light's stranglehold on the First, I would like to believe they will one day recover. Yet I fear that day may not come soon...

Halric: <mumble>

Speaking with Beq Lugg at the Inn at Journey's Head (Cutscene)
Beq Lugg: So this is Halric, is it? ...Yes, his aetheric balance leans perilously toward the Light.
Beq Lugg: Toward stasis...

Alphinaud: What do you suppose will happen to him?

Beq Lugg: Not too bright, are you, boy? The same as all poor souls corrupted by the Light─he will become a sin eater.

Alisaie: You don't know that. We've defeated the Wardens and banished the Light from the night sky. Halric was completely unresponsive before, but now...

Halric: ...<mumble>

Beq Lugg: Then perhaps there is yet hope. Hmmm...
Beq Lugg: If I may, there is a treatment I wish to administer to the patients.

Alisaie: What sort of treatment?

Beq Lugg: In the course of my studies of the soul, I once created a tonic which could temporarily stimulate the aether in one's body. After some refinement, it came to be used by the knights of Voeburt.
Beq Lugg: Then for far darker purposes...
Beq Lugg: Lest it fall into the wrong hands, I swore never again to make it. But for their sakes, I will break that oath.
Beq Lugg: It is not like to reverse the stagnation, mind you, but it should offer some measure of relief.

Optional
Alisaie: Please let this work...

Alphinaud: Leave this one to me, [Forename].

Beq Lugg: Come. Let us see what effect my tonic will have on their aether, if any.

Treating the patients with soul tonic
<Use Soul Tonic>
Todden: ... <br>
System: Todden stares blankly at you. It would seem the tonic has had no effect.

<Use Soul Tonic>
Pawnil: ...Hm? What is this...warmth I feel in my chest?
(Optional)
Pawnil: Strange... Is it me, or is it suddenly warmer? It feels rather nice.

<Use Soul Tonic>
Voyne: I...I feel...warm! And my legs, they...they don't feel as heavy...
(Optional)
Voyne: Well, fancy that... My hands don't feel quite so stiff. Thank you, [miss/sir].

Speaking with Beq Lugg (Cutscene)
Beq Lugg: Now then, have you noted any change in the patients?

Alphinaud: A notable rise in body temperature and increased motor function. In most of the patients, at least.

Alisaie: The more severely afflicted show no response.

Beq Lugg: As I feared, then.
Beq Lugg: 'Tis true that with the restoration of night, the corrupting influence of Light will no longer grow. And yes, their bodies will naturally return to equilibrium given time...
Beq Lugg: But this holds true only for their corporeal aether. Their incorporeal aether─that of the soul─is not so easily mended.

Alphinaud: Which is why those in the later stages of corruption─like Halric─appear unaffected by your tonic.

Beq Lugg: Precisely.
Beq Lugg: The boy's soul is too far gone, his mind held together by the finest of threads.
Beq Lugg: There is a chance he may one day recover, of course, but it could take years─decades, even.

Alisaie: By the gods, he could wake to find himself an old man.

Alphinaud: A fine reward for his persistence... The opportunity to mourn the life he never had a chance to live.

Alisaie: No, there must be something we can do.
Alisaie: Look, I realize this is not why we petitioned your aid, but do you think it possible we can find a way to hasten their recovery?

Beq Lugg: ...Maybe.
Beq Lugg: Nor do I think it impossible that in treating them, we might learn something of relevance to your own predicament...

Journal
*Mathye has the look of a man who has lost everything.

*Mathye received an order from the Saint Endalim Scholasticate, his most esteemed client, but has lost record of what they requested. All he can recall is they are missing a volume from the Seventy-two Articles of Halonic Polity. He asks that you go to the scholasticate and ask around to figure out which volume they require.

*You arrive at the scholasticate and have a look around. You find a shelf listing volumes one through nine, but volumes four and six seem to be missing. Looking on another shelf you find volume six. You also notice volume ten laying on one of the tables. A young seminarian named Theomocent tells you he is studying volumes twelve and thirteen, while Archombadin tells you of his work with volume fourteen in a condescending tone. The student standing outside, Leigh, tells you he borrowed a volume from the scholasticate, but he has forgotten which one. After speaking with Janchette, however, you learn that Leigh has borrowed volume four but is too busy to study its contents. Report to Mathye and tell him what you have learned.

*Your astute observations reveal that the scholasticate is lacking for volume eleven. Thanks to your keen eye, Mathye can go on to sell his wares another day.

Walkthrough
Select: It has to be volume eleven!

Dialogue
Accepting the quest
Mathye: Good day to you, sir/miss. How may I help you? Oh, you wish to help me? Well, your timing couldn't be better. It would seem I have misplaced the record of sales for my most esteemed client: Saint Endalim's Scholasticate.
Mathye: Said client has requested another volume from the Seventy-two Articles of Halonic Polity. There are fourteen in total, and try as I might, I cannot recall which one they specified.
Mathye: Surely you can imagine how embarrassing it would be were I to ask them again myself, and they to learn the reason why. That's why I need you to go in my stead. No need for overt inquiries, mind. Just make small talk and surreptitiously examine the shelves to see what might be missing.
(Optional)
Mathye: The last thing I need is to tell clients I've forgotten their order. Please go to the scholasticate and find out which volume is missing.

Searching for the Seventy-two Articles in the scholasticate
System: You find a listing for volumes one through nine on the shelf. However, volumes four and six appear to be missing.
System: You find volume six on the shelf.
System: You find volume ten lying on the table.

Speaking with the seminarians
Theomocent: Oh, pardon me. The Seventy-two Articles? Why, yes, I've been poring over volumes twelve and thirteen.
Theomocent: The subject matter is quite dense─hardly something that could be handled in a single sitting. If you have need, I could bear to part with them for a short while.
Theomocent: No? I see... In that case, I shall continue my studies.
(Optional)
Theomocent: The subject matter of volumes twelve and thirteen is quite perplexing. But to become a clergyman requires diligence and great sacrifice.

Archombadin: Hah! A lowborn stumbles into the scholasticate and thinks himself/herself qualified to study Orthodox doctrine. How droll.
Archombadin: Our facilities are reserved for those who have potential, like myself. I'll have you know that I'm working through the final volume of the Seventy-two Articles.
Archombadin: A simpleton like you could spend a lifetime in study and fail to comprehend a single word, I expect. But don't let me dissuade you. Start with volume one and mull over the first few pages for a year or so.
(Optional)
Archombadin: For the last time, I'm reading through the fourteenth volume. You can count, can't you?
Archombadin: <sigh> I will never understand why they let you people in here.

Janchette: You are studying the Seventy-two Articles as well? <sigh> I suppose that makes one of us. I require volume four, but it has yet to be returned. It outlines the canon laws of the Ishgard Orthodoxy.
Janchette: In truth, these books are all rather dense, especially after the eleventh volume. You must memorize the teachings of the fourth to set a foundation for everything that follows.
Janchette: Leigh was the last to borrow it as far as I know, but he's been so busy of late. Something about helping children being bullied. If he is truly so busy, I wish he would at least return the book to us.
(Optional)
Janchette: I believe Leigh still has the fourth volume. If I had known he would keep it for so long, I would have skipped ahead in my studies to pore over it.

Speaking with Leigh
Leigh: The Seventy-two Articles...? Ah, I do recall borrowing a volume─which one I cannot say. Would that I had time to read it.
Leigh: Truth be told, my so-called schoolmates have kept me rather preoccupied of late. Not a day goes by without them pulling some childish prank on my dear friend Theomocent. Well, they try at least. I do what I can to see their plans come to naught.
Leigh: <sigh> To know they will move on to become clergymen, or even prelates... We live in a truly unjust world.
(Optional)
Leigh: Hm? Yes, I borrowed a volume of the Seventy-two Articles, though I cannot remember which.

Reporting to Mathye
Mathye: Back from the scholasticate? Good. So, which volume are they missing?

< What will you say? >
< I think it's volume one. >
< It might be volume four. >
< It could have been volume six. >
< I'm positive it's volume eight. >
< It has to be volume eleven! >
< Volume thirteen is the one you need. >
< I didn't see volume fourteen anywhere. >

< It has to be volume eleven! >
Mathye: Ah, volume eleven! Yes, that's it, I remember now! Phew, my business and reputation are safe thanks to you.
Mathye: As I'm sure you can imagine, falling out of their good graces would bode ill for business. The scholasticate is the cornerstone of education within the church, and all members of the clergy must pass through its doors.
Mathye: With but a word from the headmistress I could lose everything I own, or worse...
Mathye: But thanks to you, my good sir/madam, my business is safe. You've helped me more than you'll ever know.

< Choosing any incorrect answer >
Mathye: Hmmm... No, I'm fairly certain they have a copy of that volume.
System: You seem to have forgotten the missing volume number. Review your quest progression in the journal, then speak with Mathye again.
Dialogue
Accepting the Quest
Lionhearted Hunter: You there, perhaps you can accompany me on a patrol of the wood.
Lionhearted Hunter: As an ally of Ronka, it may serve you well to see how we Viis ensure the safety of our sacred sites. Do you not agree?
Lionhearted Hunter: Splendid! Very well, we begin at once. I shall await you at Bowrest.

Speaking with the lionhearted hunter
Lionhearted Hunter: Shhh! We must be quiet. Look there, in the brush. An afflicted doe seeks refuge, but it cannot escape its fate. I shall draw it out─you do the rest.
(Optional)
Lionhearted Hunter: Do not hesitate! Your prey is before you!

Speaking with the lionhearted hunter
Lionhearted Hunter: What skill! Truly you are worthy of your title. I only said your prey was weakened to embolden you, but it appears that was unnecessary.
Lionhearted Hunter: Well then, let us proceed. You have proven your mettle, so it would be best for us to patrol separate routes from now on.
Lionhearted Hunter: Look after the area near the Wild Fete. I shall depart to the Morning Stars.
Lionhearted Hunter: Once you have finished, meet back here. Be safe.

Searching the Wild Fete
System: An arrow pierces the hide of the caracal. It appears to have fallen in a single shot.

Speaking with the lionhearted hunter
Lionhearted Hunter: You are returned already. I take it your patrol was as uneventful as mine.
Lionhearted Hunter: What? A single arrow? Impossible...can it be?

Frightened Voice: Gaaaaaahhh!

Lionhearted Hunter: Did you hear that? From deep in the wood...someone crying out for help. She may be in danger─we must help!

Speaking with the lionhearted hunter again
Lionhearted Hunter: As we feared, she was attacked. Luckily, a Watcher struck down her aggressor before she came to any serious harm. An uncommon occurrence, but it is not unheard of to see one while they are hunting.
Lionhearted Hunter: Doubtless the caracal you sighted was his doing as well. He must have fled into the wood when you arrived.
Lionhearted Hunter: At any rate, we must treat her. Let us return to Fanow.

Speaking with the lionhearted hunter one last time
Lionhearted Hunter: That was quite eventful for a first patrol. To think that you would meet one of the wood's Watchers.
Lionhearted Hunter: Hmm, perhaps 'meet' is not the right word. If only I could have introduced you as one of Ronka's allies. Alas, it seems that our guardian had other plans.
Lionhearted Hunter: The day was far from a disappointment, however. With your help we were able to guide a wounded ally to safety. You are welcome to join me again any time you wish.
Flavor Text
A useful little ability originating with the ghrah, Aetheric Mimicry allows the mage to match his aetherial wavelength to that of another person, granting the same benefits as their hard-won combat training.

Acquisition
Duties
dropped by

Tips
Acquisition Tips
*Ghrah Luminary will summon a monster called "Corruption". Killing the corruption is enough to obtain Aetheric Mimicry. If running unsynced, players can keep killing the adds until they learn the spell. This method is arguably faster and simpler than needing to form a party to run the dungeon synced.
**The "Corruption" trash mobs at the beginning of the dungeon do not teach the spell.

Other Tips
*After acquiring this, it's strongly recommended to be mimicking at least DPS unless a fight calls for a different mimic.
*The impacted spells for Tank Tank are:
**Cactguard (5% damage reduction becomes 15% damage reduction)
**Devour (duration from 15s to 70s)
**Chelonian Gate (Divine Cataract potency increased from 500 to 1,000)
**Dragon Force (20% damage reduction becomes 40% damage reduction).
**Schiltron (Counter potency increased from 50 to 100)
*The impacted spell for Dps DPS is:
**Matra Magic (potency per hit increased from 50 to 100).
*The impacted spells for Healer Healer are:
**Pom Cure (cure potency from 100 to 500)
**Gobskin (shield potency from 100 to 250)
**Exuviation (cure potency from 50 to 300)
**Stotram (restores HP instead of dealing damage)
**Angel's Snack (adds 200 potency regen for 15s).
* Aetheric Mimicry: Tank increases physical defense by approximately 145% and magical defense by 40%.

History
*
Hi, welcome to the wiki!

I found a reference in the quest data to "Life Finds a Way", so it's likely that the alternate line depends on the completion of that quest. Go ahead and edit the quest dialogue. See In_Pursuit_of_Eggcellence for an example of how we handle dialogue alternatives. Thanks, and feel free to join us on Discord if you have questions!
Accepting the Quest
Urianger: Now, assuming thou intendest to continue thy tour, might I suggest Slitherbough as thy next destination?
Urianger: The task of tidying up one's abode is seldom light work, yet I suspect Y'shtola's is heavier than most. Suffice it to say, a pair of helping hands might not go amiss.

Urianger: Given its specificity to the Source, yon elemental chart is perhaps best removed.
Urianger: Yet I cannot help but imagine what might unfold were a native of the First to chance upon it... What questions it would conjure in the mind of its discoverer...and whither their curiosity might lead them... 'Twould make for the beginnings of a grand adventure, would it not?
Y'shtola: ...Does Urianger truly think me so slovenly? The nerve.
Y'shtola: Loath as I am to disappoint, I put my affairs in order some time ago. I've even bade my farewells.
Y'shtola: To everyone save Runar, that is. He's nowhere to be seen...
Y'shtola: Runar... Please...
Runar: ...I jest. At least in part. Ahem. What I came to say is this...
Runar: Thank you. Without your wisdom, your strength, and your kindness to guide us, our people would still be lost.
Runar: We will never forget you, Master Matoya. Wherever your journeys may take you, you will always be in our hearts.
Y'shtola: And you in mine.
Y'shtola: Remember that your people's journey─that our people's journey is yet ongoing. Your lives will change, and so too will your dreams. Yet come what may, you need not forsake your time-honored traditions, nor less your beliefs.
Y'shtola: But neither should you be beholden to them. For it was with curiosity and courage that the Night's Blessed first triumphed over adversity. New knowledge and new wisdom are ever worthy of pursuit.
Runar: Indeed they are. And so, until we return to the sunless sea, we shall endeavor to live our lives to the fullest.
Y'shtola: That is well. But however great your strides, there may yet come a day when the challenges you face cannot be surmounted alone.
Y'shtola: On such a day...
Runar: On such a day?
Y'shtola: You may call on me.
Y'shtola: Since a means to travel between worlds exists, you can be sure I will find a way to employ it.
Y'shtola: And there remain so many mysteries here that want for solving.
Runar: Master Matoya!
(Runar carries Y'shtola happily)
Y'shtola: Runar! Really!

Optional dialogue
Runar: Please take good care of Master Matoya. See that she eats well, and wraps up warm on cold days.
Runar: Ah, and there is a herbal tea which she enjoys! If I give you the recipe, you could make it for her, perhaps? And, uh...uh...
Runar: Above all ─ please keep her close. I do not deny that she is strong, but even the strongest among us should not be alone.

Speak with Y'shtola
Y'shtola: Honestly, he's a boy in the body of a man... <sigh>
Y'shtola: Anyway, it is time we headed back to the Crystarium. Shall we?
Y'shtola: ...You still have to take the Exarch to Nabaath Areng? I see. Very well, you can look in on Thancred while you're about it.
Y'shtola: His will be a difficult farewell, and I am sure he would appreciate your support.
Y'shtola: The path goes through Twine. If you wait there, you are like to meet him on his way back, if not before.

Optional dialogue
Y'shtola: As I make my way out of the wood, I shall call to mind all that I learned during my time here. And I shall picture the day of my return.
Y'shtola: I know not when it will be, but mark my words, I will learn to traverse the rift.

Optional dialogue in Twine
Jeryk: Let me guess: you're here to ride the trolley too. Don't ask me how I know─I can just tell!

Thaffe: Ah, it's you! Good to see you looking none the worse for wear!

Speak with Mangus of Twine
Cutscene Starts

Magnus: Eh? You too? What is this, my bloody nameday?
Magnus: I see, I see. Yes, Thancred was here ─ and Ryne too. They said they wanted to go to Nabaath Areng, so we gave them the use of the trolley.
Jeryk: That's right, the old girl's up and running again! But we didn't just put her back together, mind you!
Jeryk: No, with a little bit of help from Master Chai...
Jeryk: We made her faster!
Jeryk: And stronger!
Jeryk: Ohhh yes, the future of trolleys is looking brighter than ever! Whisper it, but I reckon it might be time ─ time to reach for the stars with a trolley to dwarf all trolleys!
Thaffe: If you ask me, we'd be better off making them smaller. That way, they can fit in narrow shafts.
Jeryk: But that─ That's genius! Why didn't I think of that!?
Magnus: Enough. You can daydream in your own time. In case you've forgotten, our priority is to have more working trolleys.
Magnus: That's why we turned to Chai-Nuzz, by the way ─ not to make the one trolley we've got go faster. We needed help getting a few Talos back in working order, see.
Magnus: We were out testing 'em when your airship came down, as a matter of fact. You seem to have a habit of crashing things...
Thancred: We're back. Our thanks for the loan of the trolley.
Thancred: ...[Forename]? What are you doing here? Don't tell me the others are waiting for us?
Thancred: That's a relief. At any rate, we've done what we came to do ─ which means I'm ready to leave. Or as ready as I'll ever be.
Magnus: Not to pry, but what's going on? You off somewhere?
Thancred: You could say that...
Magnus: So you're heading home. I'm just a simple miner and don't know much about this world-traversing business...
Magnus: But the young lady here ─ she'll be looked after, will she?

* If you have completed the quest feature
** Ryne: I'll be fine, thank you. I have a place to stay at the Crystarium, and don't want for anything.
* If you have not completed the quest feature
** Ryne: Besides which, I've recently made a new frield. Her name is Gaia, and she'll always be there if I need her, just like you lot.

Ryne: Besides which, I've no shortage of friends I can turn to. Friends like you lot.
Ryne: So please don't worry. I'll be fine, really.
Magnus: If you say so...
Magnus: It being a matter of life and death, I suppose you have to leave.
Magnus: But I for one would still be torn. If the choice were mine, I'm not sure I could bear to be parted from my family.
Thancred: No. But it's for the best. Ryne has chosen to walk her own path, and she doesn't need me under her feet.
Thancred: Besides, I have my own responsibilities, and I wouldn't be setting a very good example if I neglected them.
Magnus: Hmph. Perhaps not. Either way, I envy you your dilemma.
Magnus: Well then, young lady... If there's anything you need ─ anything at all ─ you're to call on us. It may surprise you, but we can do more than simply offer you trolley rides.
Ryne: Thank you, Magnus. Everyone.
Thancred: Shall we, then?
Ryne: If you've nowhere left to visit, we can go back to the Crystarium together.

Optional dialogue - in the Twine
Magnus: Bugger me, I forgot to thank Thancred...
Magnus: When you get the chance, tell him I'm glad we had that little talk. And tell him we'll look out for the girl.

Thaffe: When it comes to families, you'd think together was best, but it's not always that simple, is it? Never really thought about it, what with my parents being long gone.
Thaffe: The people in this town are the closest thing to family I've got. And to be fair, I'd hate to leave them. Which is why I'm not going anywhere!

Jeryk: Mark my words, [Forename]: one day, Twine will thrive again, and I hope that Thancred can come back to see it. Him and that funny-talking, fortune-teller bloke!

Optional dialogue - in the Crystarium
Alisaie: I did everything I could in the time I had. No regrets.

Alphinaud: I thought that it would be easier after saying farewell, but each step I took out of Eulmore felt heavier than the last...

Thancred: This is it, then...

Y'shtola: I trust the Exarch had a pleasant tour of the realm.

Urianger: I took the liberty of informing the Crystarium's leaders of our imminent departure. It seemed only right.

Speak with Ryne in the Crystarium
Ryne: Oh, it's you... You're probably wondering why I'm not with the others.
Ryne: <sigh> It's just...I always knew that everyone would leave one day. And I always hoped and prayed that we would find a way to send them home. But now that the time has come, I just feel...lost. Lost and lonely.
Ryne: I don't want our last moments together to be sad. I want to hold myself together, just long enough to say the things that I need to say. But I'm not sure I can even do that...

What will you say?
> I'll be there with you.
> You can do it, Ryne.

Ryne: <sniff> Right.
Ryne: Thank you, [Forename]. I feel braver already. <sniff> Go on ahead and join the others. I'll be along after I've taken a few deep breaths.

Optional dialogue
Ryne: In...and out... <sigh>

Speak with Thancred
Voice Over Cutscene Start

Alisaie: That's everyone, then. We've all said what we needed to.
Urianger: Even as we speak, Beq Lugg undertaketh their final inspection of our spirit vessels.
Urianger: When thine own preparations for the journey are complete, thou art to present thyself in the Ocular.
Ryne: Um...everyone?
Ryne: I want to thank you all. On behalf of the First.
Ryne: You, and Minfilia, and the Exarch.
Ryne: Without each and every one of you guiding us, fighting for us...we wouldn't be standing here now. There wouldn't even be a here. And no words can express our gratitude.
Ryne: We still have a lot to do, countless trials to overcome ─ but if it ever seems too much, I'll think of our time together.
Ryne: The happy moments...and the sad ─ I will remember it all. And it will give me the strength to carry on without you.
Ryne: Because you made me who I am. Minfilia. Ryne.
Ryne: To honor these names and these memories, I will stand with all the people of this land, and strive for a better tomorrow.
Urianger: Thancred. I believe the honor of responding should rightfully be thine.
Thancred: I know better than most how much you've grown, and I have every confidence you'll make your people proud.
Thancred: Gods know, I'm proud of you. I always will be. You deserve all the happiness in the world and more.
???: Might we also say a few words?

(A crowd appears, of whom are the residents of the Crystarium.)

Alphinaud: Why, this is...just about all of you!
Lyna: To see you off seemed the least we could do.
Lyna: You risked your all for us ─ fought for a realm not your own. Before you came, we had never known the beauty of the night sky.
Lyna: Or the joy of your company.
Lyna: Though it saddens us deeply to bid you farewell, it has ever been our way to send off friends with a smile.
Lyna: Wherever your road should lead, we shall pray for your safety. And following your brave example, we shall continue to fight for the Crystarium.
Alisaie: With or without us, you've always taken good care of this city. I don't doubt for a moment you'll continue to do so.
Alphinaud: Aye, a more resilient people we have never known.
Alphinaud: As resilient and enduring as the tower that watches over you.
Lyna: To the last, we did not question the Exarch about his past. It is only now, when he can no longer tell us, that we believe we know the answer.
Lyna: We have heard what became of him, and what is about to be attempted.
Lyna: All will be well, of this we are certain.
Lyna: How could it be otherwise, when every soul in the Crystarium is praying for it with all their heart?
Lyna: And so, when our lord awakens, I bid you give him a message.
Lyna: Tell him he needn't worry about us.
Lyna: That he need no longer hide who he truly is. That he should live his own life to the fullest.
Lyna: And that if he should ever find himself reminiscing on the past with a smile, we shall be smiling with him.
Lyna: Will you tell him this?

What will you say?
