Status effects are debuffs that can be applied to players or hostile creatures which have an adverse impact on their combat capabilities. How these debuffs are applied, how long they last, and in some cases how potent they are varies depending on the source of the debuff. For debuffs with a duration, some, but not all, can be removed using abilities such as Esuna, or occasionally, environmental as part of the fight.

*Amnesia - The target is prevented from using abilities, but not weaponskills or spells.
*Bind - The target is immobilized, preventing movement, changes of facing, and usage of movement abilities (ex. En Avant, Shukuchi, etc). Usually breaks when any damage is received.
*Blind - Lowers the target's Accuracy for the duration, causing some attacks or spells randomly miss.
*Charm - Causes the target to attack their allies. Players lose control of their characters during the effect.
*Deep Freeze - Prevents the target from taking any action, including weaponskills, spells, and all movement, and interrupts any actions currently in progress.
*Dropsy - Deals sustained damage over time, typically a result of being within a ground effect applying the debuff.
*Heavy - Reduces the target's movement speed proportional to the intensity of the effect (ex. Heavy +40% from Leg Graze reduces the target's movement speed to 60% of normal)
*Hysteria - Causes the target to wonder aimlessly in confusion.
*Infirmity - Reduces all healing received by the target.
*Interrupt - Temporarily blocks the target from casting spells, usually as a result of a ability used to interrupt an ongoing cast. Serves as a replacement for Silence from abilities as of Shadowbringers (5.0).
*Pacification - The target is prevented from using weaponskills (or auto-attacking), but not spells or or abilities.
*Paralyze - For the duration of the effect, the target is randomly stunned for short periods of time, preventing all weaponskills/abilities/spells and movement.
*Poison - Deals sustained damage over time.
*Seduce - The target is forced to walk towards the caster, usually preventing other actions. The player loses control of their character for the duration.
*Silence - The target is prevented from using spells, but not weaponskills or abilities.
*Slow - Increases the delay between auto-attack and weaponskills and spell recast timers (anything affected by Skill Speed or Spell Speed).
*Stun - Prevents the target from taking any action, including weaponskills, spells, and all movement, and interrupts any actions currently in progress.

Introduction

Blue Mage is a Limited Job.

__TOC__
General information
Harnessing the power of blue magic, players can learn to mimic the abilities of wild beasts with this new job.

Guild
Unlock
*Complete the quest: Out of the Blue
*Requirement: Level 50 Disciple of War or Magic
*Starting NPC: Zealous Yellowjacket in Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks (X:10.0 Y:11.0)
*Prerequisite Quest: Players must first complete the Main Scenario Quest The Ultimate Weapon.
*To switch class to Blue Mage, equip the Rainmaker weapon.

Equipment
Canes (Blue Mage)

Blue Mage Only Armor Sets

And other armor and accessories available to Ranged Magic DPS. However, unlike other jobs, a blue mage's weapons do not have any main attributes that enhance their base stats. Instead blue mages will be able to output higher magic damage than other jobs by stacking up on intelligence points, so it'll be important to prepare your gear and accessories with this in mind.

Limited Jobs
Blue mage is the first of several planned Limited Jobs in FINAL FANTASY XIV. As such, there are several key points that distinguish it from other jobs.

Blue mage functions independently of other classes and jobs, starting at level 1 with a maximum level of 70.

When playing as a blue mage, it is possible to participate in duties with other players in preformed or undersized parties. However, the following duties will remain inaccessible:
*Duty Roulettes
*The Forbidden Land, Eureka
**It is not possible to change to blue mage after entering the instance.
*The Diadem
**It is not possible to change to blue mage after entering the instance.
*Squadron Missions
*Deep Dungeons
*PvP, including duels
**It is possible, however, to enter the Wolves' Den as a blue mage.
*Stone, Sky, Sea
*Hall of the Novice

Blue mages gain greater experience from battling enemies in the open world than other jobs do.
*No bonuses are granted to experience gained from FATE or guildleve enemies.

Blue mage cannot be used to progress through the main scenario.

Retainers cannot be assigned the blue mage job.

The Masked Carnivale
A series of events exclusively for blue mages, the Masked Carnivale offers a range of opponents on which to test your skills, earning rewards in the process.
Actions Mechanics
Active Actions
Before spells can be set to your hotbar, they must first be selected as active actions. You can have up to 24 active actions at any given time.
* Active actions cannot be changed during combat or during certain duties.

Active Sets
Active actions can also be saved together as a set. Up to five active sets can be saved.
* The presently selected active set will not affect the layout of your hotbar.

Learning Spells
Blue Mage Spells Learning Guide
Rather than gaining new actions by increasing in level, blue mages learn them from enemies. In order to do so, you must first witness an enemy perform a special attack in battle. Once it is defeated, you have a chance of acquiring the ability. You do not have to be hit by that spell. After defeating the enemy, you have a chance of learning that spell. The chance is determined by the rank of the spell. ★ is the easiest to learn while ★★★★★ is the hardest.
* You don't need to be hit by the spell, only see it to be casted.
* If you're dead when is enemy is defeated, you MIGHT have the possibility to learn the spell, but you have to see it being performed.
* If one person in a party leans the spell, everyone in the party will also learn it.
* Job level has no influence on when an action can be learned. There is no minimum level to learn a spell unless it is inside a duty. Sync or unsync has not impact on chance of learning.

Blue Magic Spellbook
All spells you have learned are recorded in the Blue Magic Spellbook. The book also contains hints on how to acquire other spells.

Whalaqee Totems
Certain blue magic spells can be acquired via Whalaqee Totems.

To obtain these items, complete the blue mage quest Blue Leading the Blue and certain achievements, then speak to Wayward Gaheel Ja in Ul'dah - Steps of Thal (X:12.5 Y:12.9).

Blue Mage Log
The blue mage log allows you to form parties with other blue mages and participate in specific duties.

How to Unlock

Requires Blue Mage Level 60

Complete the blue mage quest Blue in the Face and learn the blue magic spell Frog Legs.

How to Participate

From the log, you may view a list of available duties, recruit party members, and commence duties. Please note that the completion of duties will only count towards blue mage log progress if the party meets the size requirements. For this reason, it is recommended that you avoid using the "Undersized Party" option.

Available Duties

Successfully completing duties listed in the blue mage log will mark them as complete, provided that you fulfill the requirements.

Various rewards will be granted upon completion of these duties. Greater rewards are earned the first time a duty is completed via the blue mage log.

Weekly Targets

Greater rewards are given for completing duties marked as weekly targets, which are marked with a silver star.
* The additional rewards for a weekly target can only be earned once per week.
* Weekly targets are reset every Tuesday at 12:00 a.m. (PST).

Prime Targets

In addition to the standard weekly target, marked with a silver star in the list of duties, there is also a prime target, marked with a gold star. While the prime target offers increased rewards, the difficulty is significantly higher. The duties selected as prime targets are not otherwise accessible via the blue mage log.
