TOCRIGHT
Retainer Ventures allow the players to assign task to their retainers. These tasks consist of collection of items. The retainer will complete their task after a certain amount of time. Retainers are assigned classes and are able to equip gear and level up. Retainer Ventures was introduced in patch 2.2.

*Every venture assignment costs the player a special currency named ventures. These can be earned from Beast Tribe dailies, battle leves or bought from the Grand Company quartermasters.

*You can still use the Message Board and Summoning Bell while your Retainer is out venturing. However, their equipment and class cannot be changed during a Venture.

Unlock
To unlock Retainer Ventures, you must complete the quest The Scions of the Seventh Dawn and have hired at least 1 Retainer. players then must complete 1 of 3 level 17 quests in the 3 major cities.

In Limsa Lominsa, players can complete the quest An Ill-conceived Venture (Limsa Lominsa) by talking to Troubled Adventurer in Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks (X9,Y11).

In Gridania, players can complete the quest An Ill-conceived Venture (Gridania) by talking to Troubled Adventurer in New Gridania (X11.8,Y12.2).

In Ul'dah, players can complete the quest An Ill-conceived Venture (Ul'dah) by talking to Troubled Adventurer in Ul'dah - Steps of Nald (X9,Y8).

*After unlocking retainer ventures, the market board status in the retainer interface will also display venture status.

Preparing Your Retainer
Class
Before your retainers can undertake ventures, you must first assign them a class and equip them with a weapon. Retainers can be set to any of the Disciples of War, Disciples of Magic and Gathering classes, provided the player has unlocked them. Assigned class determines what items they can collect. In addition, they can only gather items that the player has successfully gathered with that class.

*A retainer's class can be changed at any time. However, you will reset level in doing so.

*A retainers max class level is limited to the players level in the same class.

Gear
Retainers can be equipped with gear that fits their class and level. The types of gear they are given affect the items they can procure during their ventures. Items will be procured in increased quantities by increasing either average item level for Disciples of War and Magic, or gathering rating for Disciples of the Land. Moreover, for retainers set as Disciples of the Land, increasing perception will result in a higher likelihood of obtaining high-quality items. Certain types of ventures require a certain item level/ gathering rating at higher levels.

*Retainer gear cannot be changed when a venture is in progress.

Gear equipped by a retainer will be bound upon completion of a retainer venture. However, bound items can still be exchanged and used by both players and their retainers.
*Gear durability will not be affected by retainer ventures.
*Spiritbond rating will not be affected by retainer ventures.
Types of Retainer Ventures
Hunting
Hunting allows Disciples of War and Magic classes to collect specific items dropped by enemies. All of the Disciples of War and Magic classes will procure the same items.
*Hunting generates Crafting Material and other items commonly dropped by monsters. Players can decide which item your retainer brings back. It can be used as a steady supply of EXP for your retainer or items for crafting. Takes an hour normally, but is faster if the retainer is sent to gather materials of much lower level.
Mining
Mining allows Miner class to collect specific items gathered by miners. Note that a retainer can only retrieve items that you have recorded in your gathering log, i.e. items that you have collected yourself at least once.
*Mining generates Crafting Material and other items commonly procured by miners. Players can decide which item your retainer brings back. It can be used as a steady supply of EXP for your retainer or items for crafting. Takes an hour normally, but is faster if the retainer is sent to gather materials of much lower level.

Botany
Botany allows Botanist class to collect specific items gathered by botanists. Note that a retainer can only retrieve items that have recorded in your gathering log, i.e. items that you have collected yourself at least once.
*Botany generates Crafting Material and other items commonly procured by botanists. Players can decide which item your retainer brings back. It can be used as a steady supply of EXP for your retainer or items for crafting. Takes an hour normally, but is faster if the retainer is sent to gather materials of much lower level.

Fishing
Fishing allows Fisher class to collect specific items gather by fishers.
*Fishing generates Crafting Material and other items commonly procured by fishers. Players can decide which item your retainer brings back. It can be used as a steady supply of EXP for your retainer or items for crafting. Takes an hour normally, but is faster if the retainer is sent to gather materials of much lower level.
Field Exploration
Field Exploration allows Disciples of War and Magic classes to explore randomly, yielding random items including Allagan Bronze and Silver Pieces. While Field Exploration takes longer than Hunting, it yields far more experience points for your Retainer. Higher-level retainers may procure items, minions, and Crafting Materials unique to exploration ventures.
*Field Exploration lasts a long time (18 hours) but yields the most EXP for your retainer. Give this task to your retainer before you go to sleep, work, or any other prolonged period of time away from your gaming devices.
Highland Exploration
Highland Exploration allows Miner class to explore randomly, yielding random items including Allagan Bronze and Silver Pieces. While Highland Exploration takes longer than Mining, it yields far more experience points for your Retainer. Higher-level retainers may procure items, minions, and crafting materials unique to exploration ventures.
*Highland Exploration lasts a long time (18 hours) but yields the most EXP for your retainer. Give this task to your retainer before you go to sleep, work, or any other prolonged period of time away from your gaming devices.
Woodland Exploration
Woodland Exploration allows Botanist class to explore randomly, yielding random items including Allagan Bronze and Silver Pieces. While Woodland Exploration takes longer than Botany, it yields far more experience points for your retainer. Higher-level retainers may procure items, minions, and crafting materials unique to exploration ventures.
*Woodland Exploration lasts a long time (18 hours) but yields the most EXP for your retainer. Give this task to your retainer before you go to sleep, work, or any other prolonged period of time away from your gaming devices.
Waterside Exploration
Waterside Exploration allows Fisher class to explore randomly, yielding random items including Allagan Bronze and Silver Pieces. While Waterside Exploration takes longer than Fishing, it yields far more experience points for your retainer. Higher-level retainers may procure items, minions, and crafting materials unique to exploration ventures.
*Waterside Exploration lasts a long time (18 hours) but yields the most EXP for your retainer. Give this task to your retainer before you go to sleep, work, or any other prolonged period of time away from your gaming devices.
Quick Exploration
When your Retainer is level 10, they can go on Quick Exploration. The retainer will come back with a single item. The experience your retainer gains depends on the item they collect. Note that players will get random items from fish to furniture to endgame gear. While not making much sense, some items might be very rare or valuable.
*Quick Exploration is a short (one hour), expensive (Venture-wise), and random task that your retainer can perform. The item your retainer brings back can be anything, as the activity is independent of your retainer's class, level and equipment (thought the higher level your retainer's gear is, the better chance they have of acquiring rare items). For example, a level 10 retainer can bring back endgame gear. The experience your retainer gains correlates to the rarity of the item they bring back.

Quick Exploration Rewards
Aside from 1.0 items and dungeon and trial gear, players can obtain 8 untradeable dyes: Pure White Dye, Jet Black Dye, Metallic Silver Dye, Metallic Gold Dye, Pastel Pink Dye, Pastel Green Dye, Pastel Blue Dye, Pastel Purple Dye. Additionally players can obtain the Retainer Fantasia.

Assigning a Venture
Players can assign a venture to their retainers by selecting Assign Venture from the retainer interface. Assigning a venture requires payment with a unique currency named ventures. Ventures can be acquired by purchasing them from Grand Company vendors with Company Seals, completing Levequests and completing Beast Tribe Quests.

*The status of ventures can be confirmed under Timers in the Duty menu. Selecting Ventures from the Timers interface will display a separate window containing the status of individual retainers.

Venture Completion
All ventures are completed within a fixed period of time (the normal gathering ventures can be shorter than usual if a high level retainer is sent to gather low level materials). When completed, your retainer's venture report will be updated in the retainer interface, allowing you to collect the spoils of their venture.
The remaining time for ventures can also be viewed in the Timers tab.

Retainers will receive experience points upon completion of ventures, increasing their level to a maximum of 70. The number of available ventures will increase as your retainer advances in level, a new tier of each type being unlocked every 5 levels.

Strategy
First phase, just avoid the AOEs and shoot him. Eventually the boss will say something along the lines of “you think you learned my tells?” and Nero will holler at you, and the AOEs after that will have giant question marks in them; for this bit, you need to stand in the AOEs. There will also be some fire markers, take them away from the group.

Throughout the next phases, the boss will occasionally cast a teleport to somewhere by the edge of the arena. When he’s done teleporting, he will either instantly do a massive column knockback in front of him OR do a cast for a shorter AOE knockback all around him, so what you want to do is position yourself off to the side or back of his teleport circle so you’re safe if he does the column AOE, and then move in front of him if he’s doing that cast for the circular one.
He also does occasional smaller knockbacks, so try to tank him towards the middle of the arena and if you’re ranged, don’t hang out near the edge.
Also, the AOEs from the first phase will continue to go off through the statue phases, watch for the question marks to know if you need to stand in them (question mark AOEs) or avoid them (plain AOEs). There are also stack markers sometimes, because of course there are.

Demon Statue Phase

A gigantic statue will spawn outside the arena. When the boss casts Graven Image, the statue will cast a pair of column AOEs towards the group and also a glowy green orb will spawn at one side of the arena or other and do a massive knockback a la Shinryu's waterspout. Watch closely for where the orb spawns so you can move towards it in time.

Pile of partially clothed folks statue phase

After the demon statue does a its thing a few times, the statue will shift and will occasionally cast an AOE that covers half the arena, check the statue for a glowing orb to see which side will be affected.

Nekkid dude and floaty bust statue phase

The statue will shift one final time, and a giant “don’t look” eye will spawn on it from time to time; if the eye is yellow and has a question mark on it, face it; if it’s purple, look away. The eyes come thick and fast, so keep an eye out (all puns intended).
Shoot the train and don’t stand in the AOEs. There’s a stack marker that’s a column rather than the usual roundy bit. Sometimes spotlights will chase you for a bit and then leave a puddle (like the fire in the Ala Mhigo scorpion fight), try to place the puddle on any ghosts in the arena to disperse them.

If you touch a floaty ghost, you and the ghost will get teleported into a sleeper car (to get out, kill the ghost and exit via the aetherial clicky), so try not to.

There are a few adds to clean up, and then you get to jump up on top of the train and kill a Doom Chimney! Yay!

After the Doom Chimney, you hop back down and everyone gets a debuff that kills you if it stacks too high (like the suffocating toad bubbles in Rabanastre); face plant into a floaty ghost to be teleported into a sleeper car and clear the debuff.

Then you go back to shooting the train and avoiding AOEs and dispersing ghosties with puddles of light.
Shoot the boss and don’t stand in AOE ;)

He’ll tether himself to a painting, and you use your duty action on the colouring page in front of that painting to mitigate what he’s about to do. From clockwise facing where the boss spawns:
* The top right painting does an arena wide ground thing, and the colouring page gives you a little flying mount. Be sure and click the demount button to get your skills back when it’s over.
* Bottom right painting does arena wide fire, the colouring page gives you a personal waterfall (fire resistance up for 20 seconds). Be sure and time this one such that it lasts through the fire.
* Bottom left painting spawns exploding adds; the colouring page gives you a mount who can sneeze the adds away from the group. Only one person needs to use it.
* Top left painting is a directional arena wide AOE, the colouring page spawns a rock for the group to hide behind. Only one person needs to use this one.

Sometimes he’ll tether himself to two paintings at once, when he does this, just use the appropriate colouring pages in the order he does the casts.

When the boss casts Graven Image, the statue will cast a pair of column AOEs towards the group and also a glowy green orb will spawn at one side of the arena or other and do a massive knockback a la Leviathan’s waterspout. Watch closely for where the orb spawns so you can move towards it in time.

Pile of partial clothed folks statue phase

After the demon statue does a its thing a few times, the statue will shift and will occasionally cast an AOE that covers half the arena, check the statue for a glowing orb to see which side will be affected.

Nekkid dude and floaty bust statue phase

The statue will shift one final time, and a giant “don’t look” eye will spawn on it from time to time; if the eye is yellow and has a question mark on it, face it; if it’s purple, look away. The eyes come thick and fast, so keep an eye out (all puns intended).

* Bottom right painting does arena wide fire, the colouring page gives you a personal raincloud. Be sure and time this one such that your rain is still raining through the fire.

At some point, someone (a few people? A healer?) will get teleported into a sleeper car with a ghost to kill, shoot the ghost and exit via the clicky.
During this phase, the rest of the raid has some adds to clean up.
Then you get to jump up on top of the train and kill a Doom Chimney! Yay!
After the Doom Chimney, you hop back down and everyone gets a debuff that kills you if it stacks too high; face plant into a ghost to clear it (like the suffocating toad bubbles in Rabanastre).
Then you go back to shooting the train and avoiding AOEs and dispersing ghosties with puddles of light.
