His research has revealed that your faerie can perceive where the fiend has feasted, and that you can track it via these aetherial traces. With Alka Zolka and the new Royal Marines at your back, make your way to the Floating City of Nym, and begin the hunt for the fiend.

*Your faerie detects the voidsent's aetherial traces─the remains of its prey. She directs you next towards Zelma's Run in upper La Noscea.

*Your faerie once again senses the aetherial traces of the voidsent, this time moving towards Camp Bronze Lake. Hurry there and consult with Alka Zolka.

*With a burst of blinding light, your faerie dispels the spell concealing the voidsent. The foe now visible, the Royal Marines charge. Alka Zolka and his soldiers deliver punishing blows, whilst your spells defend them. The battle is fierce, but soon the fiend lies dying. With its last breaths, it makes ready to release the sickness─yet before it can, the tonberries come to your aid. The killing blow is theirs. Now, as you stand victorious, congratulate your fellow combatants for putting an end to this specter of Mhach.

*You have spoken with your comrades-in-arms. Before you head off into the sunset, it would be best to see what comments Surito Carito has.

*Though the cure to the tonberries' plight is still not quite within your grasp, Surito Carito remains gratified by the outcome of the day's events. Seeing both your people and his able to work together toward a common cause is victory enough, at least for now.

*Y'mhitra confesses that her studies have yet to reveal the reason behind the failure of the Austerities of Lightning, but is otherwise pleased to announce the discovery of several new summoner incantations. Her attempt to instruct you, however, is suddenly interrupted by the arrival of Captain Dancing Wolf─an Immortal Flames officer who claims to be in pursuit of the dark summoner, Tristan. Though Tristan was apparently consumed by fire at the culmination of your battle, Captain Wolf has witness accounts that place him at the scene of a merchant caravan attack. Unwilling to dismiss the possibility that the dangerous madman yet lives, Y'mhitra requests that you both be allowed to assist in the ongoing investigation. Travel to Camp Drybone in eastern Thanalan, and speak with Dancing Wolf.

*You join Captain Wolf in Camp Drybone, and the officer sets you the task of searching for more witnesses to the incident. Make your way around the settlement, and gather more information from the merchants.

*You speak with several Camp Drybone inhabitants, and learn that a survivor of the attack has recently left town. Return to Dancing Wolf, and report your findings.

*Upon learning that the merchant who survived the attack has but recently left Camp Drybone, Captain Wolf immediately sets off in pursuit. Search the road heading east towards Highbridge, and find the assaulted importer.

*You come across the unfortunate trader under attack by an Amalj'aa raiding party. After saving him from the beastmen's spears, the merchant gratefully provides you with a description of the man responsible for the caravan attack. The silvery haired villain appears to have been in command of Ifrit-Egi, further deepening your suspicions that Tristan is indeed still alive. Head to Ul'dah, and discuss these developments with Dancing Wolf at the Hall of Flames.

*You meet Captain Wolf at the Immortal Flames headquarters, and once more hear the tragic story of how Tristan was compelled to slay his own brother. As the dark summoner was once a soldier under his command, Dancing Wolf feels bound by duty to expunge the evil Tristan has become. Accept Y'mhitra's instruction in the damaging magicks recovered from the tomestones, and prepare for the day when you may once more face the madman's flames.

*You call on Rammbroes at the scholars' camp in Mor Dhona, and he gladly surrenders several Allagan tomestones to Y'mhitra. After mentioning your role in defeating Leviathan, Ramuh, and Shiva, the anthropogeographer subsequently theorizes that you should now be capable of summoning forth new egi. Y'mhitra, jumping excitedly at this realization, presses her colleague for suggestions of suitable locations at which to attempt the rituals. Head to the Singing Shards, and join the researcher in the north of the area.

*Your attempt to summon Ramuh-Egi in the Singing Shards has ended in failure. Return to Apkallu Falls, and discuss this unexpected development with Y'mhitra.

*Even after examining her previous findings, Y'mhitra has been unable to ascertain the reason behind the failed ritual. She then promises to begin her study of the Allagan tomestones she received from Rammbroes, and asks that you prepare yourself, body and spirit, for the unknown challenges that lie ahead.

In the current day and age, however, he believes academics may know a way to reveal the unseen foe. Alka Zolka suggests that the Thaumaturges' Guild in Ul'dah may contain the sought-after information, and bids you speak with its receptionist, Yayake. Proceed there in hopes that the library holds a tome or two on the subject.

*Upon speaking with Yayake, you learn a book on vanishing voidsent was once in the guild's collection. Now, it is somewhere in Coerthas, carried there by a researcher who has been missing since the Calamity. Yayake directs you to his last known destination: Falcon's Nest. Make your way there, and see if Ser Redwald knows anything.

*After hearing your situation, Ser Redwald directs you to Soubinie. Visit the keeper of records and see if she knows anything of the missing researcher.

*Soubinie informs you that the researcher left Falcon's Nest via a riverboat, the North Star. However, the vessel ran aground during the Calamity. Though no passengers are thought to have survived, the ship itself remains. She suggests you search the ship on the stretch of water where it froze in the western highlands.

*You find the sack of void scholar's effects aboard the North Star, and the book you sought therein. Though the elements have not been kind, it is still legible. Present it to Surito Carito back near the Wanderer's Palace.

In the meantime, he asks that you and Alka Zolka focus on training, and introduces Halga Tolga to guide you. Speak with this former officer of the vaunted Nymian Royal Marines near Bronze Lake, and start learning things the hard way.

*After dressing you down, Halga Tolga demands you show your commitment to the Royal Marines. Demonstrate your resolve now by entering any expression containing the phrase “come hells or high water” with the chat mode in Say.

*The cause of Surito Carito's frustration is a lack of progress-he cannot cure the sickness without learning more of it. He explains the scourge of his people came from the ocean, upon a trader's galley. Sailors lost in a terrible storm drifted to a desert isle in the south seas, where they met a tribe of Lalafells. These natives gave the traders succor, and sent them home with a wondrous gift-an ornate amphora. Upon hearing the tale in full, however, Alka Zolka realizes that this vase may be the sickness's source, for would not these traders otherwise have transformed? To discover the truth of this, and learn more of the illness, Surito Carito entreats you to search for the south seas amphora in what remains of the Floating City of Nym.

*Your search for the south seas amphora has availed you naught, but there are yet more places to scour. Continue to look in another area.

*You look about for the south seas amphora a second time, but to no avail. Move on to another vantage point and try again.

*You look high and low, and spot something protruding from the dirt nearby. Go and attempt to dig it free.

*Though voidsent appear as if from nowhere to preempt your discovery, you make short work of them. Now is the time to excavate the earthenware amphora.

*You pry the empty amphora from the soil. Return to Surito by the Wanderer's Palace, and ask whether or not this is the south seas amphora you seek.

*Though amazed to find it intact, Surito concludes that the vase is the selfsame amphora the traders brought back to Nym. However, he is shocked by what he sees inside: a binding sigil, carved into the bottom to hold a voidsent. Surito reveals that this is the work of Mhach, an ancient nation of magi who drew their might from the void and coveted Nym. Bewildered, he wonders if everything, from the storm to the traders' miraculous return, had been a Mhachi plot to bring low his people. Greatly troubled, he asks for time to think upon the role that void magi played in spreading the sickness.
