* The Great Serpent of Ronka once again would bestow upon you the wisdom of the gods...probably.
** ※The difficulty of this quest will be synced to your current level.

* You engage in a stimulating conversation with the Great Serpent of Ronka, who─you surmise from the urgency and eagerness of its screeing─is keen to see the Stewards press deeper into the tunnels of Hopl's Stopple. Should you be inclined to heed his call, seek out Chaqurl Qhotl and see how you might best proceed.
** ※Please note that the difficulty of this quest has been synced to your current level. Furthermore, you may not proceed with a class or job that is different from when you accepted this quest.

* You speak with Chaqurl Qhotl and his father, who share some distressing news. Seeking passage further down in the depths beneath Hopl's Stopple, the Qitari excavation team's path was blocked by a massive water vein. Suffering severe chills in attempting to navigate the icy flow, Towarl Manol has taken ill and lies incapacitated in bed. Hoping to aid their friend, the Qitari father and son once again summon Valan and Quinfort from Slitherbough. The two suggest fashioning a traditional remedy and something to keep the bedridden Qitari warm, and entrust you with the task of finding a vital material for the latter. You resolve to go forth and do your part to keep your Qitari friends in comfort.

* You return to the Stopple with the ingredient sought by Valan. The Qitari rejoice when it proves not only a lifesaver for the ailing Towarl, but also─thanks to a burst of inspiration from the young Chaqurl─affords the Stewards a way to traverse the frigid depths in search of the next stela. Trusting the two Night's Blessed with looking after Towarl, Qitarl and his son continue their exploration of the underground tunnels. What wonders did they unearth this time?

* At Hopl's Stopple─feeling more comfortable and welcoming than ever thanks to the supplies and conveniences brought from Slitherbough─Qitarl and Chaqurl triumphantly inform you that they have succeeded in discovering the third stela. Unfortunately but unsurprisingly, it appears to be as weathered and worn as the others. Nevertheless, the Qitari father and son have each come to their own theories regarding the meaning of the markings, which depict what appears to be a curious race of fishmen. At the behest of the Stewards, it once again falls to you to weigh in on the matter and choose which version of history will be passed on to posterity...
BOUSHITSUCHINOKO: Scree! Scree!

System: The great serpent wriggles and writhes about with glee. It appears to be eagerly anticipating what new discoveries the Qitari excavation effort might bring. Speak with Chaqurl Qhotl and see how things have been progressing since last you met.

Chaqurl Qhotl: Oh, hello there, friend! It's a most splen-''fid''-erous day here at the Stopple. The ritual that the Viis so kindly taught us has allowed us to delve deeper into the tunnels, and you won't believe the wonders we've found!

Qitarl Natl: It is as my boy says. Our exploration of the second stratum is nearly complete, and you'll be pleased to know that the relics and treasures we have found have all but confirmed that your interpretation of the second stela was indeed the correct one.

> If the player completed {{i|The Second Stela: The Hunters and the Hunted}}
Qitarl Natl: The first encounter between our ancestors and the Viis was not a pleasant one. Countless of our ancestors were hunted down in the forest, skinned, and turned into pelts and stews. Needless to say, the Ronkan Empire did not take kindly to this...
Qitarl Natl: The emperor had a mind to drive the Viis from the Greatwood, if not to eradicate their kind entirely. But our forebears used their wits and powers of persuasion to convince both sides that establishing an alliance would be in the best interests of all parties.
Qitarl Natl: Hearing our impassioned pleas, the Viis repented their violent ways. In time, they even came to worship the Ronkan gods, believing that it was Yx'Maja Herself who granted the Ronkan emperor the vision that convinced him in the end to show mercy.

Chaqurl Qhotl: We share a positively horrifying past, but the Viis and Qitari are friends today, and that is what matters more than anything!

> If the player completed {{i|The Second Stela: Fast Friends}}

Qitarl Natl: Our forebears welcomed the Viis when they arrived in the Greatwood. Despite our clear differences in aspects like lifespan, stature, and martial aptitude, our two peoples forged a strong bond, not unlike that shared by Yx'Maja and Ox'Dalan, our guardian deities.
Qitarl Natl: We also found records of a story told since olden times. In it, a Viis and a Qitari were hunting together in the wood, when they suddenly fell into a deep sinkhole.
Qitarl Natl: Their bodies bruised and with no source of nourishment, they had no choice but to wait for a rescuer to come. Knowing that his short lifespan was nearly at an end, the short-lived Qitari offered his own flesh to his Viis companion, that she might survive for many years to come.

Chaqurl Qhotl: <sniff> Could there be a more ''wart-harming'' tale of friendship and devotion? Why, it brings a tear to my eye!

---

Qitarl Natl: I am also pleased to report that in our search, we did also manage to find a passage leading even further into the Stopple's depths. Yes, I have little doubt that another stela awaits us should we continue to delve below.

Chaqurl Qhotl: I trust that Towarl is in-''gest''-ivating the matter as we speak?

Qitarl Natl: As a matter of fact, she returned a short while ago. Towarl is nothing if not circumspect. I have no doubt her survey of the tunnels was most thorough.
Qitarl Natl: And yet...I fear the news is not all good. Poor Towarl collapsed into a shivering heap almost immediately upon her return, and has remained in bed—silent and with a dreadful fever—ever since. As such, I have sent for our friends in Slitherbough to come to our aid.
Qitarl Natl: I do believe I just saw them over there. Come, [Forename]. I would be most obliged if you could join us in getting to the bottom of all this.

Valan: We came as soon as we could. What sort of malady has stricken the poor little fellow?

Qitarl Natl: According to those who accompanied her, the passage below was blocked by a vast water vein. Towarl and her team had no choice but to dive in and attempt to swim their way onward through the depths. It would seem the chill of the water took quite a toll on their bodies, Towarl most of all...

Quinfort: Or perhaps they encountered a fearsome leviathan lurking in the deep, who did lash out at them with its tentacles in furious rage! O, for woe! My heart goes out for this brave, battered soul...

Qitarl Natl: ...Ahem. Fortunately, her life appears to be in no danger. And yet, I fear that the Stopple is far from an ideal environment for sheltering the wounded and infirm...

Valan: I would have to agree. Talismans and shrines may do well to ward off the creatures of the deep, but they will do little to keep a shivering body warm and nurse the sick back to good health.
Valan: ...[Forename]. The Qitari live a simple life, eschewing luxury. We of the Night's Blessed are similar, and I, too, believe frugality to be an admirable trait.
Valan: And yet, I daresay they deserve to live in better comfort than this. Wouldn't you agree? Perhaps there is something we could do for them...

Chaqurl Qhotl: Master Valan! Your mag-''man''-imity is most touching, indeed!

Valan: What are friends for, if not to help one another in trying times?

Qitarl Natl: We would be most obliged to you for your aid. In the meantime, I will suspend our exploration of the tunnels until such time as we find a way to traverse those frigid and treacherous waters.

Valan: I'll go gather the supplies we need to keep your friend here safe. We'll need something to warm her body, and medicine to ease her fever...

Quinfort: An elixir of life for the afflicted Qitari fellow!? Leave that to Quinfort, son of Dwatl, potion-maker nonpareil! Yes, I do believe I can procure the ingredients I need from our friends in Fanow.

Valan: As for keeping her warm, I do believe I know just the thing—something my mother always used to make for me when I caught cold as a child. All I'll need is a kindling crystal from Lake Tusi Mek'ta...
Valan: As for keeping her warm, I do believe I know just the thing—something my mother always used to make for me when I caught cold as a child. All I'll need is some serpent pepper from Lake Tusi Mek'ta...
Valan: As for keeping her warm, I do believe I know just the thing—a magma eel stew, just like Mother always used to make. All I'll need is one of those fiery critters from Lake Tusi Mek'ta...
Valan: I reckon a fruit worm will suffice as bait. Never failed me, at least.
Valan: I would fetch it myself, but I fear it would be treacherous going for one such as me. Could I trouble you with the task, [Forename]?

Chaqurl Qhotl: You are most mu-''fin''-icent indeed, my friends. Is there nothing I could do to be of assistance?

Valan: I intend to return here and tend to poor Towarl. Perhaps you could help me look after your friend?

Chaqurl Qhotl: Consider it done! Whatever I might do to be of help, I am at your every ''keck'' and ''ball''!

BOUSHITSUCHINOKO: Scree!

System: The serpent lets out a plaintive cry. It appears to be deeply concerned for the ailing Towarl Manol.

Chaqurl Qhotl: Poor Towarl...if only there was more that I could do for her!

Valan: I wasn't sure what to think of them at first, but there's something rather endearing about these little mousy fellows. As friends of Ronka and neighbors here in the Greatwood, I can't help but wish them well.

Quinfort: Why, I can scarcely wait to lend my ample expertise in the field of potion-making to our Qitari companions! It will require ingredients in ample quantities from both Slitherbough and Fanow, but there can be no doubting it is for a cause noble and true!

Lanille: I am most sorry to hear that one of our Qitari friends has been stricken ill. I can only hope that our traditional remedies will help to ease her suffering.

Qitarl Natl: How goes the search, [Forename]? Have you managed to locate anything that might keep poor Towarl warm?
Qitarl Natl: On behalf of all the Stewards, please accept my apologies for always burdening you so. I promise you that your good deeds will not go unappreciated.
Qitarl Natl: Fascinating...how gently warm to the touch it is. Yes, I daresay this should help to warm Towarl's body and ease her pain.

Quinfort: Worry not, my friends! I prepared some extra doses and shared them with the remaining members of the excavation team. Should any of them exhibit similar symptoms to poor Towarl, relief is only a quaff of Quinfort's quintessential elixir away!

Valan: Towarl seems to be feeling quite a bit better already. At this rate, I daresay she'll be back on her feet in no time.

Qitarl Natl: I cannot thank you enough, my friends. Poor Towarl...I must tell her just how much I appreciate all she has done for us when she wakens.

Chaqurl Qhotl: Oh! Oh, Father—I have it! Yes, in-''tube''-idably I do!

Qitarl Natl: Ch-Chaqurl!? Are you quite all right? Have ''what'', I say?

Chaqurl Qhotl: When I took [Forename]'s discovery into hand, my entire body was filled with a gentle wave of warmth from within! Why, if we were to give one to each member of the ex-''vacation'' team...

Qitarl Natl: ...They could stay warm and toasty even as they navigated the frigid waters below! Simply ingenious, my boy!
Qitarl Natl: Master Valan. Master Quinfort. Might I trust you to look after our dear Towarl in my stead? I would return to the excavation, that I might deliver to my friend a discovery that is sure to have her dancing in the tunnels!

Quinfort: Leave it to us, my friend! There could be no greater honor than to lend my prodigious talents to a proud race of Ronka!

Chaqurl Qhotl: That settles it! Let the third stage of the ex-''vacation'' begin!

System: Some time later...
System: Qitarl Natl and Chaqurl Qhotl have safely returned from their investigation of the tunnels.

HELMETTSUCHINOKO: Scree! Scree!

Quinfort: What news do our friends bring from below!? Why, I can scarcely wait to hear about the latest wonders of history and cultural heritage they have unearthed!

Valan: Towarl's looking like her hale and hearty old self again. Still a bit pale in complexion...but then again I suppose that's not out of the ordinary for their kind.

Chaqurl Qhotl: [Forename]! My friends! We return—our serpent friend with us—and I am pleased to report that the third stela has been found! Sadly, much like the first two, it has seen better days.

Qitarl Natl: We must count our blessings that it survives at all, what with the ravaging sin eaters, rushing waters, and worse that it has faced over the years.

Chaqurl Qhotl: Indeed. Why, I can scarcely imagine the horrors our forefathers faced when they braved the depths so long ago...

HELMETTSUCHINOKO: Scree! Scree!

Quinfort: “Have no fear, and lament not the past, O brave sons of Ronka! For in reclaiming your legacy this day, you forge the path to a brighter and ever more prosperous future!” So sayeth the divine protector, and may its words give you strength!

Valan: Well, the sentiment is an admirable one, at least...
Valan: But do tell. What were you able to make of the stone?

Qitarl Natl: What we could discern of the markings was most curious indeed. It showed a single Qitari holding a fish over his head, and standing next to him, a curious creature that resembled a miniature catfish man with two little legs.

Quinfort: A catfish man, you say!? Why, I have pored through every encyclopedia on Master Matoya's shelf, and never so much as heard of such a thing! What manner of fantastic and ancient beast might you have discovered!?

Valan: You are the most well traveled of us, [Forename]. Have you ever seen or heard of such a creature in your journeys?

Question: What will you say?

> Have I ever!
> I had a good catfish stew once...
---

Valan: A curious race of fishmen that live far to the East? No wonder we haven't heard of them here in Norvrandt. Doubtless they were one of the many ill-fated peoples swallowed up by the Flood.
Valan: You joke, [Forename], but why is it that I have a feeling you know more than you're letting on? But I won't pry—after all, we all have our secrets.
Valan: In any event, these catfish men sound most appetiz—I mean, fascinating. I would be quite curious to find out more.

Qitarl Natl: Ahem...I have a theory as to what the markings signify. Ahem...it was a time of old, when famine ravaged the forest! In trying times, our ancestors and these catfish men each laid claim to a vital fishing ground. That the creatures no longer inhabit these parts can mean only one thing...
Qitarl Natl: The proud Qitari—the might of the great Ronkan Empire behind them—drove these slippery creatures from the Greatwood, reclaiming the food supply as theirs and theirs alone. Bereft of a source of nourishment, the catfish men died out one by one, and met their eventual extinction.

Chaqurl Qhotl: Ex...ex-''ink''-tion? Perish the thought!
Chaqurl Qhotl: Believe me, Father, I am not so naive to think this was another bright and happy chapter in history. No doubt the famine you speak of truly did befall our forest home.
Chaqurl Qhotl: All the more reason that when these catfish men showed up on our doorstep, on the verge of collapsing from hunger, our ''far-forethers'' did offer them fish, that they might sustain themselves for the days to come.

Quinfort: Most fascinating theories, the both of them! And yet, I would posit another: I have read of an ancient coin emblazoned with the image of a catfish that was said to predate the Ronkan Empire. Is it not plausible—even ''probable''—that it might be the currency of an ancient civilization of fishmen that flourished in the depths below—

Valan: ...No, it isn't, and I think we've heard enough theories for the day.
Valan: At any rate, Quinfort and I should be getting back to Slitherbough. If you're ever in need of warding charms or far-fetched theories, you know where to find us.

Qitarl Natl: I must say, there is something quite compelling about the thought of a great civilization of subterranean-dwelling fish people. Perhaps I should reconsider my—

BOUSHITSUCHINOKO: Scree! Screeeeeeeeeeee!

Qitarl Natl: ...Or perhaps not! At any rate, it would appear that once again my son and I have arrived at conflicting interpretations of our people's past. And so we turn once more to you, ally of Ronka. Which version of history shall be told?

Chaqurl Qhotl: Friend [Forename]! Pray lend us your sage wisdom and a''cute'' insight!

System: Once more, the Qitari father and son have arrived at different interpretations of past events as depicted on the stela. At the bidding of the great serpent, it falls to you to determine which version of history will be told.
System: You have achieved '''Honored''' reputation with the Stewards.
System: Thanks to the supplies provided by the people of Slitherbough, Hopl's Stopple is more hospitable than ever. No doubt the Qitari will be able to return to their excavation effort with newfound vigor!
System: New Qitari society daily quests are now available from Qhoterl Pasol at Hopl's Stopple.
System: Furthermore, you will be able to undertake three additional quests from Qhoterl Pasol as a reputation bonus. This bonus is available until the daily reset time for allied society quests.
System: These additional quests will become available after accepting all current daily quests from Qhoterl Pasol. Please be advised that you cannot undertake these quests if you have no remaining allowances.
System: Furthermore, you now have access to a wider selection of wares from Yuqurl Manl.
System: Normal-quality items gathered in the course of this quest serve no purpose and cannot be sold. It is recommended that you discard them.
* The Great Serpent of Ronka would enlighten you as to the greatest mysteries of the universe...or so you believe.

Should you be inclined to heed its call, seek out Chaqurl Qhotl and see how you might best proceed.
** ※Please note that the difficulty of this quest has been synced to your current level. Furthermore, you may not proceed with a class or job that is different from when you accepted this quest.

* You speak with Qitarl Natl, who shares with you further gleanings from the excavation of the flooded tunnels, and Chaqurl Qhotl, who laments the sad fate of the catfish people who once crossed paths with his ancestors. But there is more troubling news at hand─Towarl Manol's symptoms have returned with a vengeance, and the sickness that afflicts her appears to be spreading about the Stopple. At the behest of the Qitari father and son, you resolve to travel to Fanow in their stead to acquire an additional supply of medicine from your Viis friends.

* Master Lanille in Fanow is more than happy to provide you the medicine the Qitari require, but with it comes grim tidings─a malady similar to that which plagues the Qitari appears to have afflicted the Viis as well. Deeply concerned for the well-being of your forest-dwelling friends, you set off for the Stopple once more, hoping that the remedy will provide a temporary respite from the suffering until such time as a cure can be found.

* Your return to the Stopple is greeted with grim news when Chaqurl Qhotl informs you that the sickness has spread in your absence, leaving even Qitarl Natl bedridden. As the young Qitari struggles to come to grips with the situation, Quinfort rushes to the scene in a panic and confirms your worst fears─the Night's Blessed of Slitherbough, too, have been stricken with the strange sickness, and your friend Valan lies unconscious in bed as you speak. Deeply distressed at this turn of events─and at the thought that the Qitari themselves might be responsible for spreading the disease around the Greatwood—Chaqurl resigns himself to calling off the excavation effort until a cure can be found, but is convinced otherwise by a timely interruption from the Great Serpent of Ronka. Believing this to be a sign that the very answer he seeks might be found in the tunnels below, he proclaims that the excavation will go on. Admiring the Qitari child's courage and composure in trying times, you resolve to speak to him and give him the encouragement he needs to go exploring without his father at his side.

* Having descended into the tunnels with the great serpent at his side, Chaqurl Qhotl returns to the surface alone, but with triumphant news─the fourth stela has been found. As the Qitari child tells it, unlike the previous three, it is in pristine condition, and the etchings upon it appear to provide the very answer that you seek. Guided by the divine wisdom of the great serpent, you resolve to scour the forest for the rare variety of Ronkan moss that may stay the spread of the terrible pox that now plagues the forest.

* You succeed in harvesting the moss and delivering it safely to the Stopple. At Chaqurl Qhotl's direction, the remedy is brewed and swiftly administered to the sick, who begin to show immediate signs of recovery─just as foretold by the great serpent. Before long, Qitarl Natl is back on his feet, greatly relieving his son. You are curious to speak with the elder Steward and hear his thoughts about the spread of the mysterious sickness.

* A recovered Qitarl Natl shares with you his theory on the spread of the disease, which he believes to have been an unfortunate side effect of the migration of his own people from the far-flung reaches of the forest. Troubled by the implications and yet taking heart that it was the wisdom of his forefathers that quelled the epidemic, he vows that the Stewards will be vigilant against any similar outbreaks in the future. With the four stelae finally unearthed and restored to their original form, the Qitari resolve to continue their excavation and study, that further lost knowledge may be gleaned.
{{Dialogue|<nowiki>
BOUSHITSUCHINOKO: Scree...!?

System: The great serpent lets out a high-pitched squeal. It appears to be feeling anxious about something. Speak with Chaqurl Qhotl and see how the excavation effort fares.

Chaqurl Qhotl: Welcome back! The Stopple's feeling more comfortable than ever, thanks to all those helpful supplies you and our friends from Slitherbough brought to us! Father and I have also gone diving in the depths below some twenty times now, and you won't believe all we've found!

Qitarl Natl: Indeed, my boy. Perhaps the most important discovery of all was that of relics and records confirming the interpretation of history engraved on the newly restored third stela.

> If the player completed {{i|The Third Stela: A Famine for Fishmen}}
Qitarl Natl: During the age of famine, the catfish people were driven from the forest by our ancestors, who sought to protect the fishing grounds that were their most important source of nourishment. After this, no records or remnants of them were found in any of the lands ruled by the Ronkan Empire.
Qitarl Natl: While it is possible that survivors and their descendants lived on outside Norvrandt, it is all but impossible that they could have survived the Flood of Light. Thus, we can safely say that their race is essentially extinct.

Chaqurl Qhotl: Poor catfish people... I would have—<sniff>—shared my food with you...

> If the player completed {{i|The Third Stela: A Feast for Fishmen}}
Qitarl Natl: Our ancestors enjoyed amiable relations with these curious catfish people, and indeed did share our food supply with them, allowing them to survive the age of great famine.
Qitarl Natl: To their misfortune, however, they were a stubborn folk. When they refused to worship the deities of Ronka in favor of their old gods, they were driven from the land. Whether they still live on in some far-off land, none can say...

Chaqurl Qhotl: Poor catfish people... If we ever meet someday, I promise I'll be your friend...

---

Qitarl Natl: At any rate, we have explored all there is to explore in the third stratum, meaning that it is time we ventured further below. Unfortunately, we find ourselves in a bit of a bind...
Qitarl Natl: My most trusted scout, Towarl Manol, has yet to make a full recovery from her ailment. On the contrary, others here in the Stopple have been suffering from similarly unpleasant symptoms—even those who did not accompany Towarl on her expedition below.
Qitarl Natl: I must say, I find myself quite at a loss. Might you be so kind as to accompany me as I look into the matter, [Forename]?
Qitarl Natl: Towarl was on the verge of making a full recovery when her condition took a sudden turn for the worse. And it pains me to say that she is not the only one so afflicted.
Qitarl Natl: The symptoms were mild at first, but in no time their fevers flared up, the pain and dizziness so severe that they cannot even rise to their feet.
Qitarl Natl: The medicine that Master Quinfort brought from Fanow has served to ease their discomfort somewhat, but with more of us being stricken by the day and their conditions ever worsening, I fear it will not be long until we exhaust our supply...
Qitarl Natl: I am loath to impose upon your generosity once more, but might you be willing to go back and procure another batch from our friends? Surely they will take pity on our plight...

Chaqurl Qhotl: Forgive me for not being able to travel with you, [Forename]. I must stay here and help Father tend to the sick.
Chaqurl Qhotl: I hope Towarl feels better soon. Going digging without her just isn't the same!

BOUSHITSUCHINOKO: Screee...

Phyna: Of late, I have had my hands full providing supplies to the Stewards. While it saddens me to delay my journey yet again, I am happy to lend my aid where it is needed.

Ciuna: Did young Chaqurl not accompany you this time? What a shame—I was hoping to hear about his latest discoveries.

Lanille: ...This is most distressing news. Rest assured that we will not stand idly by as our Qitari friends suffer.
Lanille: If our remedies may serve them well, I am happy to provide you with as much as you need. That said...

Phyna: To tell the truth...a similar malady to the one of which you speak has come to Fanow as well. While only a few have taken ill thus far, I must say this does not bode well...

Ciuna: Now that you mention it, a traveling merchant from Slitherbough who sojourned here just days ago had a similar tale to tell. Whatever this affliction is, I fear it seems to be spreading.

Lanille: Qitari, Viis, and Humes alike...all stricken by a mysterious plague that spreads in the blink of an eye. In all the years I have lived, never have I heard of such a thing.
Lanille: I hope I am mistaken, but my instincts tell me this is no common chill. I fear that the medicine I gave you will offer little more than a momentary reprieve from the pain...

Phyna: Do not say such things, Master Lanille! This lack of confidence ill befits you.
Phyna: Though it pains me, I suppose there is little we can do but ease the suffering as best we can until we can determine what has caused this.

Ciuna: Pray deliver the medicine to young Chaqurl and the ailing Qitari. Should our efforts to find a cure bear fruit, we shall send word at once.

Lanille: Mayhap it is some ancient plague that once afflicted the Greatwood... But if so, why does it return today, so many years later? I fear I am at a loss for answers...

Phyna: I have resolved to put off my journey until we discover the cause behind this pox. I simply cannot abandon our Qitari friends, nor risk spreading the disease beyond Rak'tika...

Ciuna: Word has it that the Night's Blessed have a mind to cut off all contact with outsiders until they can find a cure for the disease. If only there were something we could do...

BOUSHITSUCHINOKO: Scree...

System: The serpent lets out a mournful cry. It appears to be deeply concerned for the well-being of the stricken Qitari.

Qitarl Natl: <cough> <cough>

Chaqurl Qhotl: [Forename]! Did you bring the medicine from Fanow!?
Chaqurl Qhotl: Oh, thank you! Your be-''ven''-olence knows no bounds! But...but just look! Whatever am I to do...?
Chaqurl Qhotl: Not long after you left us, Father suffered a terrible coughing fit. He has not gotten out of bed since, and one by one, the others have joined him...
Chaqurl Qhotl: Father believes that there is a chance that we brought some ancient pox back with us from the ruins beneath the Stopple. Or that we ourselves have spread this disease in traveling to these parts from our former home. But as for the truth, we cannot—

Quinfort: My friends, are you all here!? I bring most grievous tidings from Slitherbough!
Quinfort: It's Valan! He has taken ill with the plague!
Quinfort: He exercised the utmost caution when tending to poor Towarl, but to no avail! For the disease has stricken him too, and with great vengeance!

Chaqurl Qhotl: Master Valan, too!?

Quinfort: ...Indeed. I fear that it is none other than he who—albeit unwittingly—carried the pox back to Slitherbough.
Quinfort: Is it true that the Viis of Fanow, too, suffer from this frightful affliction!? A great plague, threatening to claim the lives of all who call the Greatwood home! I shudder at the thought...

Chaqurl Qhotl: We have no choice. From today, all Qitari who still stand will devote every waking moment to in-''gest''-ivating the disease!
Chaqurl Qhotl: Yes, in Father's name, I hereby suspend the ex-''vacation'' effort and—

BOUSHITSUCHINOKO: Scree scree! Screeeeeeeee!

Chaqurl Qhotl: The great serpent! It speaks!

Quinfort: By gods ancient and true...!
Quinfort: Put away not your shovels and spades, young Chaqurl! The excavation must go on, for verily, so spake the divine protector of Ronka!
Quinfort: Aye, many a prayer have I offered to the great serpent on behalf of the ailing, and today my prayers have been heard!
Quinfort: Through me, Dwatl's own blood, the divine protector shall lead you to a cure for this frightful plague. Trust in it—in me—and the suffering of our peoples will soon come to an end!

BOUSHITSUCHINOKO: Screeeeeeeee!

Chaqurl Qhotl: Master Quinfort! O, Great Serpent of Ronka! Of course, you speak true!
Chaqurl Qhotl: If Father is right, and we Qitari are res-''bon''-sipple for the spread of the disease, then the answers we seek might yet be found along with the undiscovered stela.
Chaqurl Qhotl: After all, if this is indeed some ancient pox, it stands to reason that our ''far''-forethers left behind some record of it. A record that may very well shed light upon its cause...and its cure!
Chaqurl Qhotl: With poor Father bedridden, it falls to me to carry on the dig! I will find the stela and save our people, even if I must do it alone!

Quinfort: Your bravery is most admirable, young Chaqurl. And yet—even with the divine protector watching over you—are the tunnels not too dangerous for a child?

Chaqurl Qhotl: I am no child, Master Quinfort! I have lived three whole years, and in just these recent days have accompanied Father into the depths time and again! No one is better prepared to search for the stela than me!

Question: What will you say?

> Chaqurl can do it.
> It's too dangerous.
---

Chaqurl Qhotl: Oh, thank you, [Forename]! A vote of con-''dif''-ence from you means the world to me! Mark my words: I will get to the bottom of this!
Chaqurl Qhotl: Your concern is touching, [Forename], but have no fear! You have given me—and all of the Stewards—great strength. Mark my words: I will get to the bottom of this!

Quinfort: Such courageous words, spoken from one so young! Chaqurl Qhotl, you truly are a shining example for all your people...!
Quinfort: Worry not for your dear father. [Forename] and I will see that he wants for nothing while you are exploring down below. Go in safety, and know that we pray for your success.
Quinfort: Young Chaqurl continues to impress, does he not? I would be lying to say I am entirely unconcerned, but I have faith that he will be safe under the great serpent's watchful eye.

BOUSHITSUCHINOKO: Scree-eee!

System: The serpent lets out a passionate cry and bounces about confidently. It appears moved by the young Qitari lad's courageous decision to venture deeper into the caves on his own.

Qitarl Natl: Chaqurl, my boy... Be—<cough>—safe...

Chaqurl Qhotl: It is not simply for the future of my fellow Qitari that I must find the next stela...
Chaqurl Qhotl: It is for Father, for Valan, for the Viis who suffer in Fanow... For all those who call Rak'tika home, I must succeed! Let the ex-''vacation'' begin!

System: Some time later...
System: Chaqurl Qhotl has safely returned from his exploration of the tunnels!

Quinfort: You return, my young friend! Thanks be to the great serp—what's this? Do mine eyes deceive me? You return alone...

Chaqurl Qhotl: Indeed. On all our previous ex-''vacations'', an avatar of the great serpent—clad in a suit of armor—arrived to welcome Father and I to the stela's resting place. This time, there was none to be found...

Quinfort: Inconceivable! The great serpent forsaking a descendant of Ronka in their time of need!?

Chaqurl Qhotl: In-''tube''-itably, the divine protector moves in mysterious ways.
Chaqurl Qhotl: But worry not, my friends! For I was able to locate the fourth stela myself! And—thanks be to the divine protector—there was barely a scratch or scrape on it!
Chaqurl Qhotl: Yes, using the tools and techniques you have supplied to us, I do believe we will be able to raise it to the surface in pristine condition!

Quinfort: Remarkable! Truly, you are a paragon of Ronkan industriousness and ingenuity! Now do tell—did the stone provide any new insights that might help us fend off the plague?

Chaqurl Qhotl: Oh, Master Quinfort! You will see for yourself once we raise it to the surface, but let me tell you what I saw with my own eyes!
Chaqurl Qhotl: Pictured ''provident''-ly in the center was none other than the great serpent itself! Atop its head sat a gloriously large and fluffy green mass. Before the serpent, a man in Ronkan garb raised his hands in sheer ''julib''-ation!

Quinfort: Glorious! This is incontrovertible proof that the divine protector guided our ancestors to enlightenment just as it guides us today!

Chaqurl Qhotl: Sadly, Father is in no condition to share with us his thoughts on the carvings—but no matter! With the stela in im-''pec''-ulate condition, I am confident that my in-''pertritation'' is the correct one!
Chaqurl Qhotl: Yes, there can be no doubting it! With a mighty “scree!”, the great serpent did bestow upon the Ronkan people a giant tuft of grass-green fluff, which cured them of a dreadful pox!
Chaqurl Qhotl: No doubt it is to guide us to this very knowledge—the cure that would save our people—that the great serpent appeared before me!

Question: What will you say?

> Glory be to the scree!
> I could present another theory...
---

Quinfort: Truly! The great serpent works in mysterious ways, but there can be no doubting that what happened here today was none other than a divine miracle!
Quinfort: Ally of Ronka or no, I will entertain no wild theories or speculation about what has happened here today. The great serpent has granted us a miracle, and we must show proper obeisance!
Quinfort: If I might be so bold as to expand upon your insight, young Chaqurl, I believe I can identify precisely that miraculous object which the serpent did carry on his blessed pate.
Quinfort: Verily, this can be none other than that greatest blessing of Rak'tika—Ronkan moss, which grows so verdant and lush in our forest home!
Quinfort: If I recall from my studies, Ronkan moss can be harvested from numerous sources, but in particular certain rocks found in the Husk, upon which it grows in great abundance.
Quinfort: If I recall from my studies, Ronkan moss can be harvested from numerous sources, but in particular certain species of tree found in the Husk, upon which it grows in great abundance.
Quinfort: If I recall from my studies, Ronkan moss can be harvested from numerous sources, but in particular from a species of turtle found in the Red Chalice, upon whose shell it grows in great abundance.

Chaqurl Qhotl: [Forename], ally of Ronka! You have my word that this is the last time I will impose upon you. Might you be so kind as to go forth in search of the moss that will save my people?

Quinfort: Splendid! And I, young Chaqurl, will make for Fanow. The Viis will doubtless have insight to share on how to brew the moss into a proper elixir.

Chaqurl Qhotl: I am deeply og-''bliged'' to you, my friends. I will tend to Father and pray that his condition has not worsened in the meantime. Until we meet again!
Chaqurl Qhotl: The great serpent has spoken! The moss will heal Father and our friends once and for all—I am sure of it!

Quinfort: Does my encyclopedic knowledge of Ronkan flora surprise you? For it should not. Valan and I used to run about in the forest and collect rare shrubs and fronds since we were knee-high to a wood raider.

Lanille: So the fourth stela has been found. Welcome tidings in these trying times, indeed. If there is aught we can do to aid our Qitari friends, you need but say the word.

Phyna: Ronkan moss, you say? I fear that it does not grow in these parts. I pray that you find it, and find it swiftly—the fate of the forest depends upon it.

Ciuna: A type of moss that holds the power to heal the sick? I cannot help but wonder if this was one of the many wonders birthed by Ronkan mastery of the arcane.

Chaqurl Qhotl: Did you find the moss, friend? Oh, please say you did!
Chaqurl Qhotl: Splendid! Splen-''fid''-erous! Why, it looks just as it did on the stela! We must prepare the medicine at once...

System: Following the method illustrated by the carvings on the fourth stela, the Stewards brewed an elixir from the Ronkan moss, and distributed it to their ailing friends. Before long, the symptoms eased, and a brighter mood returned to the Stopple.
System: No longer lacking for manpower, Chaqurl Qhotl and his friends built a workshop where the medicine could be produced in large quantities to be distributed across the Greatwood.
System: Some time later...

Qitarl Natl: Ahem! Reports have it that our friends in Slitherbough and Fanow are well on their way to making a complete recovery. All of Rak'tika truly is in your debt, [Forename]. I have no words to express my gratitude...

Chaqurl Qhotl: You have my ''grad''-atude as well, [Forename]! And we must not forget the great serpent, who guided us to the cure! Speaking of which...where did it go?

Qitarl Natl: It is not our place to question the workings of the divine, my boy. No doubt it felt its role here was done, and returned to a place where only the gods know.

Chaqurl Qhotl: Does that mean—<sniff>—I'll never see it again?

TSUCHINOKO@Great Serpent of Ronka: Scree!

Chaqurl Qhotl: Did I hear what I think I heard!?
Chaqurl Qhotl: The serpent returns to us! Or...perhaps it was watching over us from behind the stela all along?

Qitarl Natl: Doubtless so, Chaqurl. Indeed...the great serpent truly does work in mysterious ways.

System: And so it was that the Qitari reclaimed the history and knowledge of their forefathers, and in so doing, played their role in returning peace to the Greatwood—just as foreseen by a certain prognosticating priest. All was according to the great serpent's plan...or was it?

TSUCHINOKO: Scree?

Qitarl Natl: Ah, [Forename]. I cannot thank you enough for all you have done on behalf of my boy—no, on behalf of all the Stewards.
Qitarl Natl: You will be pleased to know that we have succeeded in producing the mossy brew in large quantities. Any fears of a plague sweeping through the Greatwood are well behind us.

Chaqurl Qhotl: Did you ever find out what caused the disease, Father?

Qitarl Natl: It is difficult to say for certain, but I do have a theory. Plants, blossoms, and trees abound in the Greatwood, all possessing their own seeds and spores—some of which can be quite poisonous.
Qitarl Natl: Lesser poisons exist as well. In that case, one might build up an immunity if one lives for long enough in their presence. At the same time, different areas of the wood are home to different flora, each bearing their own poisons.

Chaqurl Qhotl: And so, living for a hundred years far away from this place, you say we have a different...in-''num''-ity than our friends in Slitherbough and Fanow?

Qitarl Natl: Precisely, my boy. More precisely, we carry an element of the poison within us, and it is this which protects us from their harmful effects.
Qitarl Natl: The downside of this, of course, is quite clear. When these poisons are carried to a new place, where others are not accustomed to them, the selfsame thing that protects us from their effects can have harmful effects on others—just as the poisons our own bodies are unaccustomed to can harm us.

Chaqurl Qhotl: So, the sickness...it was all our fault for coming here?

Qitarl Natl: Perhaps...and perhaps not. We are not the only ones who traveled here when the path through the Ravel was opened. We Qitari, the creatures of the forest we saw on our way...doubtless the spread of the pox was inevitable.
Qitarl Natl: And besides, in coming here, we have rediscovered a powerful elixir fashioned by our forefathers—one that we might use to prevent any further outbreaks of disease among those who call the Greatwood home.
Qitarl Natl: Looking back, I suspect that matters such as these were a source of great consternation in the days of the empire, when peoples moved about the Greatwood often and in droves.
Qitarl Natl: No doubt this is why it was the Ronkans who discovered the cure—with the guidance of their divine protector, of course.

Chaqurl Qhotl: The same divine protector who remembers well the events of those days, and who led us back to the remedy it had shared with our forefathers so many years ago.

Qitarl Natl: The fourth stela has been reclaimed, and with it, another piece of our heritage. And yet, the Qitari did not do this alone...
Qitarl Natl: You, ally of Ronka. Your friends Quinfort and Valan. Our loyal allies among the Viis. All played a part in making this day happen. Given our peoples' mutual histories, it is perhaps fitting—wouldn't you say, Chaqurl?

Chaqurl Qhotl: In-''tube''-itably! At long last, I understand how people must have felt in the days of Ronka, when our peoples cooperated and lived together in a great ''cil''-ivization!

Qitarl Natl: The wisdom of our forefathers has saved us today. But we must not rest easy. We must continue to learn and record our experiences, that our own wisdom might serve those who follow in our footsteps.

Chaqurl Qhotl: There is still much that I would study as well! Pray come back to visit us, my friends—I would be happy to share with you all the wonderful things I am sure to learn!
Chaqurl Qhotl: After all, while the serpent with the hat has gone off somewhere, the helmeted one remains with us. Surely, this is a sign that there is still much to explore in the tunnels below!
Chaqurl Qhotl: After all, why would it remain with us if there were not additional pathways and passages through which it seeks to guide us? Oh, I can hardly wait to see what may yet be unearthed!

System: You have achieved '''Sworn''' reputation with the Stewards.
System: Yet more embodiments of the great serpent have taken up residence in Hopl's Stopple. They appear quite pleased to see the Qitari stelae restored to their former glory.
System: Furthermore, you now have access to a wider selection of wares from Yuqurl Manl.
</nowiki>}}
