At a questioning look from you, your mentor reveals that they once worked as researchers and traveled to the New World to study blue magic. When their funding was cut, Martyn practically bankrupted himself to pursue his passion, while Whastrach chose a more lucrative career as the head of a trading company. *Latool Ja has an expression of overwhelming joy on his face. Or at least you think he has...

*Latool Ja is the first to congratulate you on your spectacular victory over Azulmagia. The self-confessed villain of the piece, Whastrach, arrives to commend your performance, and promises to relinquish his hold on Lapis Canyon, as per the agreement. Much to everyone's surprise, he even asks Ceadda if he will act as his guide in the New World, in order to secure another source of ceruleum without adversely affecting the lives of the inhabitants. The young Whalaqee senses the sincerity in Whastrach's words, and accepts the offer in the hope that his advice will prevent any more unpleasant confrontations. As the two of them leave to prepare for their journey across the Indigo Deep, Royse reminds you that your services as Azuro the Second are still very much in demand, and that she is expecting you to make further appearances in the Masked Carnivale. Martyn, too, in spite of his initial reluctance, plans to continue in the role of the Great Azuro until a better─or more profitable─idea springs to mind.

*After an extremely brief period of contemplation, Martyn decides that his new goal in life is to found a Blue Mages' Guild. In order to do so, he will first need to gather the necessary capital, and what better way to do that than continuing to appear in the lucrative─and highly dangerous─Masked Carnivale? Martyn reminds you that there is room in the spotlight for both Azuros, and that the door to the Celestium is always open to you.
*Latool Ja is doing a fine job of holding the fort in Martyn's absence.
*Latool Ja informs Martyn that you have learned the Glower spell, prompting your mentor to ignore the chirurgeon's advice once again and leave his sickbed to congratulate you. This achievement, however, pales in comparison to another piece of welcome news he has received─Whastrach has successfully delivered the medicine to the Whalaqee and the epidemic afflicting them has been eradicated. Unfortunately, Martyn's jubilations are short-lived when Ceadda, the young chirurgeon of the New World tribe, arrives with ill tidings. Whastrach has apparently taken lands sacred to the Whalaqee as his own, in an obvious attempt to seize the ceruleum-rich Lapis Canyon. Martyn is livid at the treachery of the man in whom he placed his trust, and rushes off to confront him at the processing plant in northern Thanalan.

*You arrive to find Martyn and Ceadda already in the midst of a heated debate with Whastrach. The self-styled businessman states that the Whalaqee lands were acquired through a legally binding contract in exchange for the shipment of medicine and that the ceruleum mine he plans to open will give the Whalaqee an opportunity to become part of the modern world. Ceadda and Martyn vehemently disagree, saying that the elders were tricked into the agreement and that it is not for Whastrach to decide how they should live their lives. As the two sides reach an impasse, Royse interrupts to make a surprising revelation─not only is she Whastrach's financial backer, but she also told him of Martyn's plan to produce medicine for the Whalaqee. Although she was unaware of the extent of Whastrach's plans, she cannot decide which side of the argument she should support. To settle the matter, she suggests that Martyn and Whastrach meet in the Celestium and battle as blue mages, and promises to withdraw her investment should Martyn win. However, if he loses, he will be forced to persuade the Whalaqee to surrender their lands as per the agreement. Since Martyn is still recovering from his earlier injuries, you are selected to take his place, assuming the guise of “Azuro the Second.”

*Back in Ul'dah, you participate in a practice demonstration of your spells, bedecked in your new Masked Carnivale outfit. It is then that Whastrach enters dressed as the terrifying Azulmagia, resembling a demon in more than simply outward appearance. You finally understand why his prowess as a blue mage is held in such high regard, as he unleashes an array of astonishingly potent magicks.

*With your climactic encounter on the horizon, Royse suggests entering matches against her pit fiends first to hone your skills before facing your mentor's hated rival. Azulmagia awaits you in the final stage of the Masked Carnivale, but will your blue magic be enough to overcome him?
*Latool Ja seems positively perturbed.

*Latool Ja, in a state of panic, informs you that Martyn has been grievously wounded while performing in the Masked Carnivale, apparently a result of his exhaustion from appearing in a vastly increased number of shows. Just as you and Latool Ja are about to discuss what is to become of your training regime, Whastrach makes an unexpected arrival. Despite sharing a somewhat prickly relationship with Martyn, he offers to act as your mentor in his stead, and share his knowledge of blue magic. Although you have your suspicions, you agree to meet him in western Thanalan for your first lesson together.

*Much to your surprise, you find Whastrach standing next to a magitek vanguard, which he says he had restored after it was abandoned by the Garleans. Since he apparently has no further use for it, he suggests using it as a target on which to practice your blue magic, neglecting to mention that the warmachina has been programmed to answer your assault with lethal force. Although you are accustomed to combating more organic foes, your spells prove to be equally effective against metallic opposition.

*Whastrach praises your proficiency in the use of blue magic, although he views the art as a relic of a bygone age, along with all traditional disciplines of combat taught in Eorzea. He posits that the face of warfare has changed, leaving armed soldiers largely obsolete, with units of warmachina replacing them on the front lines. To power these magitek armies, vast amounts of ceruleum will be required, which Whastrach and his organization are looking to control. He even suggests that you would be well suited to serving his company in some unknown capacity, though he chooses not to pressure you into a decision at this juncture, giving you something to ponder on your way back to Ul'dah.

*Outside the Celestium, your conversation with Whastrach is interrupted by Martyn, who has ignored the chirurgeon's orders and left the infirmary. To the surprise of everyone, Whastrach volunteers to assist in producing medicine and delivering it to the Whalaqee. While you cannot help but wonder how he came to know Martyn's closely guarded secret, a man of his influence and financial clout would be a valuable ally in the fight against the epidemic. Martyn clearly has reservations about letting Whastrach take over the operation while he remains bedridden, but swallows his pride and begrudgingly accepts. The ceruleum merchant leaves to begin the preparations, leaving Martyn free to voice his concerns, although he seems for the most part to have been convinced of Whastrach's sincerity. Fortunately for you, he has not forgotten about his promise to help you prepare for the Masked Carnivale, and recommends that you learn the spell Glower.
*Despite having sent you to learn Faze, Martyn shows little interest when you appear to demonstrate the fruits of your labors. Instead, he asks you to come back at some other time, claiming that he has more pressing matters at hand. As he leaves to tend to said business, Royse arrives and expresses to you her concerns regarding Martyn's increasingly obvious monetary woes. Although he earns a fair wage performing in the Celestium, his debts appear to be growing. Where he spends these vast amounts of gil is anyone's guess, and his assistants appear to have been left in the dark as to his clandestine activities. Eager to get to the bottom of this mystery, Royse suggests that you help her track Martyn's movements in order to determine whether he is involved with anything that would bring the Celestium into disrepute.

*You and Royse spy Martyn leaving the Alchemists' Guild, having apparently concluded some business there. Rather than stopping to inquire with the guild members what this might be, you decide against letting Martyn out of your sight, and continue trailing him.

*On the outskirts of the city, you find Martyn engaged in a transaction with two shadowy figures, their faces concealed beneath dark hoods. You are able to catch enough of their conversation to ascertain that the item in question is none other than dream flowers─highly illegal and used in the production of somnus. Royse is unable to hide her surprise and her sudden outburst gives away your position to the black marketeers. They decide the most effective way to silence the witnesses to their dealings is a blade between the ribs, and they pounce to attack.

*You swiftly dispatch the assailants with your nascent blue magic, which has come on leaps and bounds since you first met Martyn. Thankfully, your mentor and Royse are also unscathed, having been saved by your timely intervention from an untimely death.

*Royse is furious with Martyn for involving himself in illicit activities, prompting the blue mage to finally reveal the reasons for his recent behavior. He states emphatically that the dream flowers he has been buying on the black market are for use in a medicine created to fight an epidemic that has spread from Eorzea to the New World. Feeling that he is partly responsible for carrying the disease to the Whalaqee, he is prepared to face both financial ruin and bodily harm to secure a steady supply of the medicine. Taken aback by Martyn's fervent commitment to the cause, Royse reconsiders her position, and not only allows him to continue at the Celestium, but grants him the opportunity to perform in more shows, and even offers to help him find another source of dream flowers.

*By the time you arrive in Ul'dah, it seems that Martyn and Royse have already decided a new schedule at the arena that includes more shows featuring the Great Azuro. Royse has also introduced Martyn to a merchant who can provide the dream flowers in a state that circumvents any legal obstacles to their purchase. Considering that Martyn's time will now be almost entirely dedicated to entertaining audiences in the Celestium, you will need to train alone for the most part, relying on the wild beasts to teach you their techniques. He suggests that you learn the spell 1,000 Needles before returning to report your progress to Latool Ja.
*Martyn is eager to take you into the field for further training.

*Now that you have learned Mind Blast, Martyn deems you ready for the next stage in his impromptu training regime. Once again, Spineless Basin is the chosen location, recalling unwelcome memories of being duped into exterminating a pest to help line Martyn's pockets.

*This time, the locals have paid Martyn in advance to slay some troublesome moles, a task which he has wasted no time in delegating to you. He insists that this will also prove beneficial in improving your blue magic, since they provide moving targets on which to test your new Mind Blast spell.

*Despite being outnumbered, your burgeoning blue magic makes short work of the mischievous moles. Now that the pests have been dealt with, you hope that Martyn has something to teach you in exchange for your hard work.

*You find Martyn being accosted by a gang of thugs, to whom he apparently owes money. Although your instincts as an adventurer compel you to rush to the aid of your mentor, he is adamant that he can handle these ruffians by himself. Rather than using his blue magic to repel his assailants, Martyn attempts to appease them by surrendering his clothes. His plan works better than expected, and the moneylenders decide not to carry out their threats of bodily harm, although the matter of the borrowed coin is far from settled. Not one to be deterred by such setbacks, Martyn heads back to Ul'dah, seemingly paying no heed to the fact that he is almost as naked as the day he was born.

*Thankfully, Martyn found a spare costume awaiting him on his return, although having to pay for it himself only adds to his woes. The unexpected arrival of Whastrach, an old acquaintance, does nothing to brighten Martyn's mood. The unwelcome visitor's voice drips with disdain as he takes great relish in pointing out that the blue mage has become a shadow of his former self since leaving the Arcanists' Guild. And though Whastrach mercifully chooses not to stay any longer than necessary, it seems that Martyn will be seeing more of his former associate sooner rather than later. At a questioning look from you, your mentor reveals that they once worked as researchers and traveled to the New World to study blue magic. When their funding was cut, Martyn practically bankrupted himself to pursue his passion, while Whastrach chose a more lucrative career as the head of a trading company. Keen not to dwell on the past, Martyn changes the subject to more immediate matters, and sets you the task of learning the Faze spell as the next step to becoming a master of blue magic.
*Martyn has found time between performances to train you in the ways of blue magic.

*Having mastered Blood Drain, you return to Martyn, eager to continue your training. As the Great Azuro, he has already gained something of a following, and a small group of fans interrupts your conversation to have him perform his─apparently─customary pre-fight speech. While he seems to be relishing his newfound stardom rather more than anyone had anticipated, he finds time in his busy schedule to impart to you his knowledge, and arranges to meet you in Spineless Basin in central Thanalan.

*The rocky landscape of central Thanalan is plagued with hordes of vicious hornets, and the area where you rendezvous with Martyn is home to a particularly lethal variety. He suggests that you test your recently acquired Blood Drain spell on these vilekin, so that you may gain valuable experience in using blue magic against a genuine threat.

*A barrage of spells soon puts paid to the man-eating hornet's attempts to sting you to death. It is slowly becoming apparent that blue magic may yet serve as a viable means of dispatching a variety of threats, and that Martyn's claims of its endless potential may be founded in fact after all.

*On your way back to Martyn, you find him accepting payment from a local merchant for exterminating the very same buzzing pest you were sent to slay. Although you are quick to express your displeasure at being asked to carry out menial tasks in the name of “training,” your blue mage mentor weasels out of it with practiced ease, and offers to pay your share once you have returned to Ul'dah.

*Martyn is under the impression that the training session in Thanalan has yielded the desired results, while you cannot shake the feeling that it was a thinly veiled ploy to earn a few extra gil at your expense. In an attempt to prove that he has not entirely forgotten about mentoring you in blue magic, he sets you the task of learning another spell, namely, Mind Blast.

*※The next blue mage quest will be available from Martyn upon reaching level 30 and learning Faze

Introduction

Blue Mage is a Limited Job.

__TOC__
General information
Harnessing the power of blue magic, players can learn to mimic the abilities of wild beasts with this new job.

Guild
Unlock
*Complete the quest: Out of the Blue
*Requirement: Level 50 Disciple of War or Magic
*Starting NPC: Zealous Yellowjacket in Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks (X:10.0 Y:11.0)
*Prerequisite Quest: Players must first complete the Main Scenario Quest The Ultimate Weapon.
*To switch class to Blue Mage, equip the Rainmaker weapon.

Equipment
Canes (Blue Mage)

Blue Mage Only Armor Sets

And other armor and accessories available to Ranged Magic DPS. However, unlike other jobs, a blue mage's weapons do not have any main attributes that enhance their base stats. Instead blue mages will be able to output higher magic damage than other jobs by stacking up on intelligence points, so it'll be important to prepare your gear and accessories with this in mind.

Limited Jobs
Blue mage is the first of several planned Limited Jobs in FINAL FANTASY XIV. As such, there are several key points that distinguish it from other jobs.

Blue mage functions independently of other classes and jobs, starting at level 1 with a maximum level of 70.

When playing as a blue mage, it is possible to participate in duties with other players in preformed or undersized parties. However, the following duties will remain inaccessible:
*Duty Roulettes
*The Forbidden Land, Eureka
**It is not possible to change to blue mage after entering the instance.
*The Diadem
**It is not possible to change to blue mage after entering the instance.
*Squadron Missions
*Deep Dungeons
*PvP, including duels
**It is possible, however, to enter the Wolves' Den as a blue mage.
*Stone, Sky, Sea
*Hall of the Novice

Blue mages gain greater experience from battling enemies in the open world than other jobs do.
*No bonuses are granted to experience gained from FATE or guildleve enemies.

Blue mage cannot be used to progress through the main scenario.

Retainers cannot be assigned the blue mage job.
Actions Mechanics
Active Actions
Before spells can be set to your hotbar, they must first be selected as active actions. You can have up to 24 active actions at any given time.
* Active actions cannot be changed during combat or during certain duties.

Active Sets
Active actions can also be saved together as a set. Up to five active sets can be saved.
* The presently selected active set will not affect the layout of your hotbar.

Learning Spells
Blue Mage Spells Learning Guide
Rather than gaining new actions by increasing in level, blue mages learn them from enemies. In order to do so, you must first witness an enemy perform a special attack in battle. Once it is defeated, you have a chance of acquiring the ability. You do not have to be hit by that spell. After defeating the enemy, you have a chance of learning that spell. The chance is determined by the rank of the spell. ★ is the easiest to learn while ★★★★★ is the hardest.
* You don't need to be hit by the spell, only see it to be casted.
* If you're dead when is enemy is defeated, you MIGHT have the possibility to learn the spell, but you have to see it being performed.
* If one person in a party leans the spell, everyone in the party will also learn it.
* Job level has no influence on when an action can be learned. There is no minimum level to learn a spell unless it is inside a duty. Sync or unsync has not impact on chance of learning.

Blue Magic Spellbook
All spells you have learned are recorded in the Blue Magic Spellbook. The book also contains hints on how to acquire other spells.

Whalaqee Totems
Certain blue magic spells can be acquired via Whalaqee Totems.

To obtain these items, complete the blue mage quest Blue Leading the Blue and certain achievements, then speak to Wayward Gaheel Ja in Ul'dah - Steps of Thal (X:12.5 Y:12.9).
Blue Mage Log
The blue mage log allows you to form parties with other blue mages and participate in specific duties.

How to Unlock

Requires Blue Mage Level 60

Complete the blue mage quest Blue in the Face and learn the blue magic spell Frog Legs.

How to Participate

From the log, you may view a list of available duties, recruit party members, and commence duties. Please note that the completion of duties will only count towards blue mage log progress if the party meets the size requirements. For this reason, it is recommended that you avoid using the "Undersized Party" option.

Available Duties

Successfully completing duties listed in the blue mage log will mark them as complete, provided that you fulfill the requirements.

Various rewards will be granted upon completion of these duties. Greater rewards are earned the first time a duty is completed via the blue mage log.

Weekly Targets

Greater rewards are given for completing duties marked as weekly targets, which are marked with a silver star.
* The additional rewards for a weekly target can only be earned once per week.
* Weekly targets are reset every Tuesday at 12:00 a.m. (PST).

Prime Targets

In addition to the standard weekly target, marked with a silver star in the list of duties, there is also a prime target, marked with a gold star. While the prime target offers increased rewards, the difficulty is significantly higher. The duties selected as prime targets are not otherwise accessible via the blue mage log.

Complete the blue mage quest Blue in the Face and learn the blue magic spell Frog Legs

Complete the blue mage quest "Blue in the Face" and learn the blue magic spell "Frog Legs."
