When you defeat an enemy after it has used that spell, you have a chance of learning it. Doing instances either premade with no Undersize options selected or with both Undersize and Level Sync options make the spell a 100% learn rate. Spell chances in the open world or [[Masked Carnivale]] are RNG based on the number of stars for that spell.

If you die before the enemy does you will not learn the spell. You must be alive as it dies in order to learn the spell. Killing an enemy with [[Self-destruct]] or [[Final Sting]] will result in failure to learn the spell.

*Spells acquired by [[Whalaqee Totem]] are bought in [[Ul'dah]] near the Blue Mage trainer and cannot be acquired through other means, even if the spell is cast by a mob elsewhere.
*Min Lv indicates the minimum level that the spell can be attained. Masked Carnivale, [[FATE]], or [[Elite Mark]] is not taken into consideration.
*World Mob L takes only the level of Open World, FATE and Elite Mark mobs into consideration while Duty L takes only [[Dungeon]]s, [[Trial]]s, [[Raid]]s and the Masked Carnivale into account.
*A ~ means there is no relevant information (such as there being no open world mob with the spell).
*All Blue Mage spells can be used at Level 1.

Instead blue mages will be able to output higher magic damage than other jobs by stacking up on intelligence points, so it'll be important to prepare your gear and accessories with this in mind.

Blue mage is the first of several planned [[Limited Jobs]] in FINAL FANTASY XIV. As such, there are several key points that distinguish it from other [[jobs]].

Blue mage functions independently of other [[classes]] and jobs, starting at level 1 with a maximum level of 70.

==Learning Spells==

Rather than gaining new actions by increasing in level, blue mages learn them from enemies. In order to do so, you must first witness an enemy perform a special attack in battle. Once it is defeated, you have a chance of acquiring the ability. You do not have to be hit by that spell. After defeating the enemy, you have a chance of learning that spell. The chance is determined by the rank of the spell. ★ is the easiest to learn while ★★★★★ is the hardest.
* You don't need to be hit by the spell, only see it to be casted.
* If you're dead when is enemy is defeated, you will not learn the spell. This also applies to deaths due to Final Sting and Self Destruct.
* If one person in a party leans the spell, everyone in the party will also learn it.
* Out of a duty, job level has no influence on when an action can be learned. There is no minimum level to learn a spell unless it is inside a [[duty]]. If a duty is level-synced (even when undersized), there is a 100% chance of learning the spell. If unsynced, the spell learning rate is dependent on the number of stars (estimates put ★★★★★ spell learning rates at 5%), but is not 100%.
* There are two exceptions to the rule that spells learned unsync do not have a 100% drop rate: these are Mind Blast (from the Tam-Tara Deepcroft) and Glower (from Aurum Vale). These two are required by job quests, and will thus always drop.

===Whalaqee Totems===
Certain [[blue magic spells]] can be acquired via [[Whalaqee Totems]]. Spells that are acquired via totems cannot be learned through other means. (For example, White Wind cannot be learned from Enkidu in Battle in the Big Keep, since White Wind is a totem spell.)
