Yet more so than its incomparable library and formidable assemblage of Archons, this prestigious academy is famed for blending traditionally distinct fields to produce revolutionary new disciplines. Among these, perhaps the most distinguished is an altruistic art which draws upon the wisdom of aetherology, sorcery, and medicine. Dubbed somanoutics, the art seeks to heal and protect by manipulating corporeal aether through the use of nouliths, a flying array of foci. ==Trivia==
The Sage icon was changed during development because the first version was triggering trypophobic reactions (Aversion or feeling of disgust or fear in response to clusters of small holes or bumps) in some players. The two versions may be viewed and compared here (TRIGGER WARNING if you have trypophobia), and the official blog post announcing the change may be viewed here (Safe for people with trypophobia, as the old icon is not shown).
The Granary is a facility added with the Island Sanctuary in Patch 6.2 which allows the player to send mammets to various locations through their island to forage for resources, similar to retainer ventures. Materials obtained from an expedition are yielded every daily reset at 1 a.m. (PDT). Expedition materials include common materials that can be manually gathered on the island, along with rare materials (one per area) that can only be obtained from expeditions. Common materials from expeditions are a good way to keep up with Island Workshop demands and will reduce the amount of manual gathering one needs to do. Rare materials can be used in high-value Isleworks Handicrafts, along with certain facility upgrades.

Players can select one area per granary for an expedition. Each area has several common resources and one rare resource. The yield of each normal resource can range from 0 to 24 (in steps of 2) and is slightly increased with the number of placed Landmarks. Note that in order to obtain a given common resource, players must have previously manually gathered it (i.e., it must be discovered in the gathering log). Rare resources are guaranteed and yield is determined by granary level.

Expeditions cost seafarer per real-world day. Up to 7 consecutive days can be assigned at once. Players can freely change the expedition location after it has been assigned. Only materials from the currently active location when the daily reset occurs will be returned.

Granary Upgrades and Unlock Condition
Granaries are unlocked at Sanctuary rank 5. A hideaway can have up to two Granaries.

Granaries can be upgraded. Upgrades cost various gathered materials and take time to complete (Earth hours).
Tips and Tricks
* Sand Cyclone inflicts the target with heavy Heavy, making it hard to avoid the next attacks.
* Sand Breath is a telegraphed conal AoE that inflicts blind Blind, making some of your attacks miss and breaking your combos.
* Poison Breath is an untelegraphed conal AoE that inflicts poison Poison, a Damage-over-Time.
It's recommended to be touching the chest of the worm, so that there is less distance to travel to avoid the conal AoE with heavy Heavy status, which can be done by moving to one of its sides. The most challenging one to avoid is Poison Breath because it has no telegraph, but when you see it cast, avoid it the same way you would avoid Sand Breath.

Description
If you're not familiar with spearfishing, this mission can be confusing and difficult. Here's how to do it:
#Make sure you have spearfishing unlocked. If not, you need to complete the quest feature given by Sumitsubo at The Ruby Sea (X:28.9, Y:15.9).
#Change your class to fisher. Activate Truth of Oceans (this is done automatically if you are FSH level 70 or above).
#Go to The Sunken Junk spearfishing hole around Yanxia (X:10, Y:34) and dive under water ( As shown to the right ).
#If necessary, use your Shark Eye II ability to find a Lv 70 Teeming Waters. There are some lvl 65 nodes to the east, but that is The One River Southwestern Riverbeds spearfishing hole, so be careful to avoid those.
#Begin spearfishing. Your first goal is to catch 8 Ichthyosaur. They are fast-moving large fish. You may find the Veteran Trade ability to be helpful, but it only works for one type of fish at a time. Using it multiple times will not block multiple kinds of fish from spawning, only the last kind of fish you caught before activating the ability.
#Once you exhaust a node, find another one (using Shark Eye II if necessary). There are three nodes in The Sunken Junk spearfishing hole, and you can just cycle through them.
#After catching 8 Ichthyosaur, the swimming shadows node in The Sunken Junk's South Side spearfishing hole will appear. If you have Truth of Oceans activated, you will see the message "You sense level 70 swimming shadows to the <direction>" and the node will appear on your mini-map, similar to how Unspoiled Nodes appear for botany and mining.
#Spearfish the swimming shadows node and catch three Dafangshi. They are slow-moving medium fish. You will need this mission in your log to catch dafangshi, otherwise they will not appear. In addition, unlike a normal spearfishing target, dafangshi will appear as "Unknown Fish."
#If you are unable to catch 3 Dafangshi from one spearfishing attempt at the swimming shadows node, you will need to catch 8 more ichthyosaurs to spawn the swimming shadows at The Sunken Junk's South Side again.

Steps
*Wait for Reyna at the Gods' Grip.
*Gather information from the villagers in Isari.
*Report to Wawalago in Kugane.
*Join Wawalago outside Namai.
*Catch dafangshi.
*Deliver the dafangshi to Wawalago at the Glittering Basin.
*Show the dafangshi to Jisho in Isari.
*Deliver the dafangshi to Ukimono in Tamamizu.
*Speak with Wawalago at Fisherman's Bottom.

Journal
*Master Wawalago is examining you with an expectant eye.

*Wawalago excitedly explains that he's received a missive from Reyna, who is eager to share what she and her colleagues have learned from their inspection of the harutsuge sprags you successfully snared for her. Unable to contain his eagerness to meet the lovely lass with a passion for all things piscine, the guildmaster also states his intentions to steal away from the watchful eye of Sisipu and join you. Make your way to the Gods' Grip to see what manner of enlightening knowledge the fishing enthusiasts have gleaned.

*Wawalago is moderately dismayed to be greeted not by the gorgeous Reyna but rather her colleague Ansaulme, but quickly puts aside his qualms to inquire as to Ishgardian anglers' latest findings. Ansaulme relates their findings, such as they are: to wit, that they could determine no anomalies with the waters of the Ruby Sea from the specimens you secured. When the guildmaster then surmises that this could only mean that the problem can be traced to their spawning grounds, Ansaulme is impressed by his powers of deduction, encouraging Wawalago to travel to the Far East to investigate for himself. As the guildmaster hems and haws, Sisipu appears, chastising him for his insensitivity to her true feelings and giving him her blessings to make the journey eastward. You make for the fishing village of Isari to gather what information you can in advance of the guildmaster's arrival in Kugane.

*In Isari, an elderly fisherman by the name of Jisho shares with you an intriguing bit of history. Before the Garleans came, the Isari fishermen joined with their Kojin friends to hold a yearly event known as the Wadatsumi festival. The festivities involved catching fearsome sea beasts known as giant plesiosaurs and offering them in tribute to the kami of the seas, that calm might return to the oceans. Traditional religious practices, however, were outlawed twenty-five years ago when the Garleans came, and the bonds of friendship between Isari and the Kojin gradually faded away. You set off for Kugane to share this enlightening information with Master Wawalago.

*Upon hearing your tale, Master Wawalago quickly deduces that the outlawing of the festival has resulted in an overpopulation of plesiosaurs, who doubtless are preying upon on harutsuge hatchlings before they can reach full size. As such, it would stand to reason that reviving the festival would restore the harutsuge to the seas. Together with your companions, you make for the shores near Namai to catch yourselves some dafangshi, that you might present them to the Kojin in return for their cooperation in bringing back the festivities of old.

*Wawalago encourages you to ensnare three dafangshi, the fish favored by the Kojin, that it might convince them to take part in the revived Wadatsumi festivities. Should you find the task too trying, he suggests you speak with your Kojin friends and learn what you might of their special technique of spearfishing.

*Employing your spearfishing skills to their fullest, you manage to haul in three dafangshi. Wawalago expresses his admiration and bids you show them to Jisho in Isari, and secure his permission before then persuading the Kojin to take part in the festivities.

*Jisho is delighted to see the dafangshi, and is nigh brought to tears at the thought that his humble village, which struggled so long under the yoke of the empire, might at long last see its glory days return. As he calls upon the young ones to begin preparation, he bids you deliver the dafangshi to Tamamizu in his stead.

*Ukimono is likewise overjoyed at your offering of the dafangshi, saying that nothing would give him greater joy than to restore a beloved tradition of his people's past. This will not happen overnight, however, as the young Kojin himself remembers little of the particulars of the celebration. While Ukimono and Govv round up willing collaborators in Tamamizu, you set off back to Eorzea with Guildmaster Wawalago, who intends to do further research regarding the festivities at the guild.

*Back at Fisherman's Bottom, Wawalago restates his intent to research the Wadatsumi festival to the best of his abiltiies. He encourages you to make a foray to your favorite fishing hole in the meantime, so that you might be prepared to fish as you have never fished before when the occasion arrives.
** ※The next fisher quest will be available from Wawalago upon reaching level 70.

Many enemies that appear in the Masked Carnivale are weak to a particular element, which can be confirmed when viewing the list of stages. Use this to your advantage and set your actions accordingly.

The elemental weakness of enemies is also indicated by an icon above their display names.
Evil Dreamers
This boss is a gauntlet against dozens of individually weak Evil Dreamer enemies.
* Dark Vision: Evil Dreamers will spawn on the outside of the arena and fire off line AoEs before joining the fight proper.
* Void Gravity: Circle AoEs targeted on each player.
* Unite Mare: Several Evil Dreamers appear and cover the entire arena with circle AoEs centered on them. Kill at least one of them to create a safe zone.
* Endless Nightmare: Several Evil Dreamers appear and fuse into one large Evil Dreamer, which begins casting this ability very slowly. At the same time, several smaller untargetable Evil Dreamers will spawn and cast Unite Mare. Some of these Evil Dreamers will get tethered by yet more Dreamers, fusing them together and increasing the size of the AoE. Endless Nightmare wipes the party if allowed to finish its cast.

Beatrice
* Eye of Troia: Moderate partywide damage and initially creates a gaze attack centered on the boss, indicated by a large ring shrinking to converge on the point. The attack goes off when the ring covers the targeted point, inflicting a dispellable Doom Doom debuff. When it next uses this attack, two gaze rings will converge to the north/south or east/west of the arena, followed by two more gaze rings in the previously empty locations after the first two resolve.
* Beatific Scorn: Beatrice burns several lines into the arena with eye beams, which explode into circle AoEs shortly after, dealing heavy damage. The explosions are marked by the circular patterns on the floor. The marks explode in the order she casts them; marks also change color from purple to orange shortly before exploding.
* Hush: Tankbuster.
* Voidshaker: A cone AoE from Beatrice's front.
* Void Nail: Player-targeted circle AoEs that deal light damage.
* Toric Void: A ring AoE around the outside of the area, used at the same time as Eye of Troia.
* Antipressure: A stack marker on a random player.

* Rotten Rampage: Four sets of AoEs are staggered out: two sets of ground-targeted circles, followed by player-targeted circles on all party members, and then a third set of ground-targeted circles. The AoEs deal moderate damage, destroy the walls on the edge of the arena, and inflict a stack of Brain Rot for 7 seconds. Getting 3 stacks of Brain Rot inflicts Zombification.
* Blighted Bedevilment: A knockback from the center of the arena. Place yourself between Scarmiglione and a wall to avoid being knocked into the puddle on the outside of the arena, which inflicts Toxicosis. Standing too close to the center results in instant death.
* Blighted Bladework: Scarmiglione draws his sword, leaps into the air and tethers to a point on the ground. After a short delay, Scarmiglione drives his sword into the ground, causing a very large circle AoE.
* Blighted Sweep: Cast immediately after Blighted Bladework. Scarmiglione turns to the center of the arena and fires out a wide line that leaves only the area behind him safe.
* Firedamp: Tankbuster.
* Creeping Decay: Scarmiglione becomes untargetable and begins charging a Scarmiglione's Power meter. He will also summon eight Necroserf adds.
** Nox: Several circle AoEs appear in one of two formations: A ring along the outer edge of the arena, or a cluster in the center of the arena. If the formation is a ring, it will be followed up with Void Gravity. If the formation is a cluster, it will be followed up with Void Vortex.
*** Void Gravity: Targeted circle AoEs on each player.
*** Void Vortex: A stack marker on a random player.
* Corruptor's Pitch: Once all of the Necroserfs are defeated, or Scarmiglione's Power reaches 100, he will cast this ability. The attack deals seven weak hits in a row, followed by a much stronger eighth hit. If Scarmiglione was allowed to fully charge, this final attack instantly kills the party.
My own sources tell me its cells held many Ala Mhigan nobles, incarcerated by the mad king Theodoric on the mere suspicion of rebellion. Before their vassals could free them, however, the Empire's invasion began. <br />
The imperials knew naught of the dungeon beneath their feet, and thus did its prisoners waste away in darkness. It is said that the souls of these unburied and unmourned nobles wander yet, tethered to this realm by their suffering...}}
The Workshop is a building added with the Island Sanctuary in Patch 6.2 which provides a place for mammets to create handicrafts out of the materials a player obtains on their island.

Workshop Upgrades and Unlock Condition
Workshops are unlocked by following the Island Sanctuary tutorial questline at Sanctuary rank 3.

A hideaway can have up to two Workshops at Sanctuary rank 3, and up to three beginning at rank 5 (after Pathfinder Mk III clears more plots).

Workshops can be upgraded. Upgrades cost various gathered materials and take time to complete (Earth hours).
Description
Enemy Weaknesses
Many enemies that appear in the Masked Carnivale are weak to a particular element, which can be confirmed when viewing the list of stages. Use this to your advantage and set your actions accordingly.

The elemental weakness of enemies is also indicated by an icon above their display names.

Tips and Tricks
* Sand Cyclone inflicts the target with Heavy, making it hard to avoid the next attacks.
* Sand Breath is a telegraphed conal AoE that inflicts Blind, making some of your attacks miss and breaking your combos.
* Poison Breath is an untelegraphed conal AoE that inflicts Poison, a Damage-over-Time.
It's recommended to be touching the chest of the worm, so that there is less distance to travel to avoid the conal AoE with Heavy status, which can be done by moving to one of its sides. The most challenging one to avoid is Poison Breath because it has no telegraph, but when you see it casted, avoid it the same way you would avoid Sand Breath.

Description
