Lore
A shining seat of knowledge, Sharlayan stands upon an archipelago in the northern seas. A colony of the same name once flourished in the Dravanian hinterlands, and numbered amongst the six city-states of Eorzea prominent in the latter half of the last era. However, its halls stand empty, as the sons and daughters of the nation have been called homewards. Now, Sharlayan watches the turning of the world, but refuses to change the course of its events.
Flag
When Thaliak poured the waters of knowledge into His river, the spiral shell became their keeper--such is the legend wherein the nautilus came to symbolize wisdom. In addition, men have believed that mollusks lived forever from time immemorial. It is to capture the essence of these meanings that Sharlayan's flag bears a green spiral shell emblazoned upon a field of silver.

Motto
Knowledge Seeks No Man

Government
When the Sharlayan had but few inhabitants, all adults came together in the Ecclesia to speak their mind upon decisions of nation. As their numbers grew, they have come to elect to the Forum those officials who they feel best represent the will of the people. The speaker of the Forum serves as the head of state, but his power is greatly restricted by law.

Leader
Sharlayan is led by a government of the people, for the people. There is no one leader. That said, several prominent Forum members (such as Fourchenault Leveilleur) exercise executive authority and speak on behalf of the nation as diplomats.

Ruling Body
The Forum: The highest body in the nation, members of this gathering are elected through votes cast by their fellow Sharlayans.

Racial Distribution
Unknown<br>
Note: Though its citizens are diverse, Sharlayan does not make population statistics public in the interest of equality

Religion
The people of Sharlayan came together in the pursuit of knowledge. The city itself was raised to aid in this endeavor, and in the process Thaliak was named the guardian deity. However, the choice had less to do with pious worship than the creeds of the Sharlayans. Thus, little importance is placed upon religious rites, and many pray to others among the Twelve.

Industries
Aetherial Technology:
Through long years of studying aether and magic, Sharlayan scholars have mastered the secrets of traversing the Lifestream through aetherytes. Indeed, by building and maintaining Eorzea's Aethernet, they have secured a steady source of foreign currency.
Publishing:
With scholars and Archons penning discourse upon discourse, it is no surprise that the city has a robust publishing industry. These learned treatises are prized by Eorzean academics and artisans, who willingly pay great sums to learn of Sharlayan's latest findings.
Education:
Starting with the prestigious Studium, Sharlayan has numerous famed academies that accept students from all nations. In times past, Eorzean pupils eagerly flocked to Sharlayan's settlement in the Dravanian hinterlands from all corners of the realm. There, they studied a multitude of subjects from different fields--though it seems instructors reserved certain wisdom for those of Sharlayan citizenship alone.

Beliefs
For greater purposes, Sharlayans seek to gather the knowledge of the world, and preserve it for posterity in the pages of Bibliotheca Historica. They covet the unknown and unexplored, and put great value upon education--in part as a gathering of like-minded fellows. They also abhor bloodshed, find war barbaric, and would never dream of allowing their wisdom to be used for martial purposes. As such, they guard closely all knowledge they deem dangerous.

Diet
As one might expect, food is oft taken as an object of study, and Sharlayan is rumored to hold countless tomes detailing fare from all over the world. However, the delicacies they create are strictly academic purposes--and not for anything as base as eating. The everyday fare of the city is good for the body, but otherwise quite bland. Accordingly, many groans can be heard from foreign students come meal time.

Bonus: Pleas Unanswered
The Dravanian hinterlands attracted students from all across Eorzea, and grew as a beacon of knowledge and wisdom. Yet, this was not to last. In 1557, tidings that Garlemald had captured Ala Mhigo reached the city. To the Sharlayans, the Empire was a threat to their very way of life. They had spent an age stubbornly resisting all war, and the imperial invasion of Ilsabard and Othard was a bane to the values they had held since Nyunkrepf's time. Sharlayan sent ambassadors to Garlemald with entreaties to stop their advance. They even strove mightily to parlay a peace, but all these pleas fell on deaf ears, and the envoys returned home empty-handed.
In the wake of the failed negotiation, Fourchenault Leveilleur and the faction he led within the Forum elected to forsake their colony. Following five years of elaborate and painstaking preparation, the plan to evacuate the settlement's entire population to the northern archipelago of their homeland was put into motion. In 1562, the city of Sharlayan became a maze of empty streets and buildings in the space of a single evening.

Bonus: Moenbdryda Wilfsunnwyn
With much aplomb, Urianger ignored Moenbdryda's nigh-constant pestering; however, the stubborn young Sea Wolf would not be put off so easily, and could oft be found lurking beside the boy, reading complex treatises over his shoulder. The two eventually grew close, and it was not uncommon to see the two late at night in the Great Gubal Library hunched over a stack of tomes and a smuggled plate of cockatrice meatballs.

History
A Journey South
Legendary figures known as the Twelve Archons are widely believed to have saved a great many Eorzean lives during the Sixth Umbral Calamity. Nyunkrepf Nyunkrepfsyn, a towering giant of a Roegadyn from beyond the Northern Wastes, was one amongst this band of heroes. He foresaw the coming of the floods through astrology, and, unable to stand idly by, made a great ship of wood, and set out upon a voyage for Eorzea with a crew of volunteer sailors.

Along the way, Nyunkrepf's men rescued many souls set adrift on the seas. Yet, as they drew nearer their goal, they spied a tidal wave bearing down upon them. Knowing his vessel would be torn to splinters by the force of the water, Nyunkrepf made a desperate decision. He cast a powerful and ancient magick over the ship, knowing not where they would arrive. Thus, the crew and many refugees aboard found themselves teleported away from certain death, and perched precariously in Abalathia's Spine.

The Long Descent
Though those aboard Nyunkrepf's ship found momentary succor, they were not alone in the mountains. Many other refugees had fled to Abalathia's Spine with little more than the clothes upon their backs, and what little sustenance they brought quickly ran out. As their hunger grew, their civility fell away. They became little better than snarling savages, fighting and killing for what little food the peaks offered.

From within his ship, Nyunkrepf watched with grief as precious lives were snuffed out by the barbarism. Knowing those he had saved would die if they tarried in the region, he and his followers fled as soon as the rains had abated. He led them unto the Dravanian hinterlands, where they built a new ship. Though the seas remained rough and tossed them about, they nevertheless safely reached the isles in the northern seas. Having returned home, Nyunkrepf and the survivors set about building a small settlement. This humble village was to grow into the mighty city of Sharlayan.

A New Center of Knowledge
The Sixth Umbral Era passed, and the Sixth Astral Era dawned. Nyunkrepf's village had already advanced greatly by the start of this glorious new age, and had expanded enough to rightly be called a city. The citizens of the newly-named Sharlayan had pledged themselves to Nyunkrepf's teachings: to forever renounce war and walk in the light of wisdom and reason.

This spirit was evident in the city's governance. Every adult was given a voice in decisions affecting the nation's future through the great gathering known as the Ecclesia. Here, peers would discuss and debate until some consensus emerged-a system that many scholars have since called enlightened. In fact, it was in the Ecclesia that the Sharlayans voted to elect Thaliak as their patron deity.

The city flourished under the motto of "Knowledge Seeks No Man," and a number of academies sprung up, allowing its people to expand their minds through scholarship. Of particular note was the Studium, founded in 432. Instructing pupils in everything from aetherial studies to astromancy, it encouraged them to learn about both the arcane and the occult, and has produced a great many Archons over the ages. The Studium has made numerous discoveries that have helped Eorzea as well, including the lost secrets of travel by aetheryte.

And Then There Were Six
In 1311, the scholars of Sharlayan crossed the seas to the Dravanian hinterlands, and there built an outpost to study the aetherial sea. This became a stop for all academics who ventured to Eorzea to conduct their research, and a hostelry was constructed for long-term tenure upon foreign shores. This small collection of buildings grew more numerous, and in time it became a handsome settlement.

Rumor of this community of learned men spread, and students began to converge upon the place from every corner of Eorzea. They sought the wisdom of scholars, and their number began to swell. In 1361, upon the fiftieth anniversary of the research outpost, the Forum formally proclaimed it a colony. With this, the Sharlayan settlement joined the six city-states of Eorzea.

Pleas Unanswered
Players can leave island sanctuary at any time by boat (X:9.2 Y:28.3) or via use of Return and Teleport.
* Players who are inactive for more than 30 minutes will be moved to lower La Noscea (X:24.9 Y:34.8) automatically.

Other Islands
It is possible to visit the islands of acquaintances. Each island has room for up to 16 players (including owner) to explore at a time.
* After reaching a sanctuary rank 4 and getting second upgrade of Cozy Cabin, players can grant others access to their island sanctuary.
* Visiting other players island requires completion of main
* Island sanctuary activities such as crafting and gathering cannot be carried out when visiting another island.
* Owner of the island sanctuary must enable access for others to visit.
* As of Patch 6.2, players will not be able to hear orchestrion music when visiting another island. This will be made possible in a future update.

Questline
Island Sanctuary has simple questline consisting of 3 quests:
* feature unlocks Island Sanctuary.
* side becomes available after reaching rank 9 and building all buildings on all plots (3 workshops, 2 granaries and 4 landmarks), upgrades are not required. Quest rewards players with the Isle Farmhand's Glamour Set.
* side becomes available after completing the previous quest and reaching rank 12. Quest rewards players with the Isle Shepherd's Glamour Set.

Islekeep's Index
The islekeep's index is an island-specific HUD element that allows players to confirm important information, switch gameplay modes, and manage island's various features.

Modes
Selected mode influences how players interact with features and creatures on the island.

Free
Default mode
Gather
Allows player to see and gather resource nodes, fully grown crops and gather pasture animals's leavings.
Sow
Allows player to plant seeds in empty crop plots.
Water
Allows player to water crop plots that are not fully soaked.
Cull
Allows player to destroy plants in cropland.
Feed
Allows player to feed animals.
Pet
Allows player to pet their pasture animals. Has no effect on gameplay.
Beckon
Interacting with an pasture animal from distance will make it come to player.
Capture
Allows player to capture animals. It is required to use an appropriate restraint to match the animal's size. Each attempt costs 1 restraint, regardless of whether capture was successful or not. Different animals have different capture rates, with rare animals (i.e., those that spawn in certain times or weather conditions) being harder to capture. If the player fails to capture the animal, it will either notice their presence and run away (despawn), or not notice their presence and allow for another immediate capture attempt.

Main Menu
The main menu consists of buttons by which players can confirm important information and manage various aspects of the island.

Sanctuary Rank
Sanctuary rank indicates experience with subsisting in an island environment and improving sanctuary. Earn Islandexp island experience by engaging in various activities on the island. The higher rank, the more features and options will become available. Highest rank is rank 12.

Currency
As development of the island sanctuary progresses, players will earn two types of currency - seafarer Seafarer's Cowries and islander Islander's Cowries. These are Cieldalaes-specific currencies to be used at shops that become available on the island.
seafarer Seafarer's Cowries
Used to pay for expansions of the island through Pathological Pathfinders. Can be also traded with Horrendous Hoarder in Cozy Cabin for various items or with Produce Producer for seeds.

Can be acquired from time-gated activities, most notably from Workshop or by completing weekly challenge log challenges. Additionally, players can sell cropland's Produce, pasture animal's leavings or granaries' Rare Materials at somewhat questionable rate.

islander Islander's Cowries
Used to buy items from Horrendous Hoarder in Cozy Cabin. Can be acquired by selling gathered resources to the Enterprising Exporter.
clear

Hideaway
<noinclude></noinclude>
The hideaway is south-western part of the island and it's player's base of operations. All buildings, pasture and cropland are located here.

The Cozy Cabin
<noinclude></noinclude>
The Cozy Cabin is the primary facility of the hideaway. Player may access the orchestrion, exchange various items with merchants stationed there, and more.

There are currently three available upgrades:
* Cozy Cabin I - unlocks Cropland I, Pasture I, orchestrion
* Cozy Cabin II - requires rank 4 and unlocks Cropland II, Pasture II
* Cozy Cabin III - requires rank 7 and unlocks Cropland III, Pasture III

Workshop
The Workshop provides a place for mammets in players employ to create handicrafts out of the materials obtained on the island.
After conveying a schedule of production to the tactful taskmaster, handicrafts will be automatically created by the mammets on staff in the Workshop.
Workshop can be built on any of the 5 facility plots, but only 3 Workshops can be built.
There are currently three available upgrades:
* Workshop I - unlocks at rank 3
* Workshop II - unlocks at rank 6, increases yield of the seafarer Seafarer's Cowries by 10%
* Workshop III - unlocks at rank 8, increases yield of the seafarer Seafarer's Cowries by 20%

The Granary
After constructing a Granary, players may send a team of exploratory mammets on foraging expeditions to gather materials. Each expedition will yield some common materials but most importantly, set amount of specific rare material.
After choosing desired expedition area and the number of days, mammets will venture out to gather materials, returning once per day until the foraging expedition is over. If player has paid for multiple days of expedition, they can still change expedition area without any additional fee. Expedition returns every day at the same time.
Granary can be built on any of the 5 facility plots, but only 2 Granaries can be built.
There are currently three available upgrades:
* Granary I - unlocks at rank 5, single expedition in one day will yield 2 rare resources
* Granary II - unlocks at rank 6, single expedition in one day will yield 3 rare resources
* Granary III - unlocks at rank 8, single expedition in one day will yield 4 rare resources

Landmark
Landmarks increase maximum Groove, which increases efficiency of the Workshop.
There are 4 plots for landmarks and 5 types of landmark plus 1 special landmark, the Water Otter Fountain. All landmarks have same effect and cannot be upgraded. 1/2/3/4 Landmarks increase maximum Groove to 15/20/25/35. Each landmark is functionally identical. Because there are more landmarks than plots, it is not possible to have all landmarks built at a time. However, after first building a landmark on a plot, players can choose to replace any landmark in a plot with another one with no construction time, although construction materials for the new landmark are needed.

* Towering Tree Fort - unlocks at rank 3
* Quixotic Windmill - unlocks at rank 3
* Boiling Bathhouse - unlocks at rank 5
* Lominsan Lighthouse - unlocks at rank 9
* Water Otter Fountain - unlocks at rank 9 (special landmark; Expert Crafting required)
* Gamboling Garden - unlocks at rank 12

Pasture
Allows player to keep captured animals. Animals will drop Leavings.

There are currently three available upgrades:
* Pasture I - unlocks at rank 2, maximum of 5 animals
* Pasture II - unlocks at rank 4, maximum of 10 animals
* Pasture III - unlocks at rank 7, maximum of 20 animals

Cropland
Allows player to plant seeds and gather Produce. Each plants take 48 earth hours to grow. Plants need to be watered.

There are currently three available upgrades:
* Cropland I - unlocks at rank 2, maximum of 5 crop plots
* Cropland II - unlocks at rank 4, maximum of 10 crop plots
* Cropland III - unlocks at rank 7, maximum of 20 crop plots
Note: Even though visually there are 10 plants per crop plot, each plot will yield only 5 Produce

Progression
Following image shows progression timeline of Island Sanctuary. Many features, building and upgrades require preceding upgrades and/or other features. Indirect requirements, like Islekeep's Stone Hatchet which you need to gather materials to build Cozy Cabin I, are not visualized.

Note: Timeline chart is still work in progress

Resources
Island resources can be divided into 4 categories - common materials, animals' leavings, produce and rare materials.

Common
Common materials can be gathered from gathering nodes across island. They are not constrained by any mechanics like time or weather. They can be gathered endlessly. However, players need to have right gathering tools unlocked to gather specific resources. Underwater resources are accessible via standard diving game mechanics.

Leavings
Leavings are produced by pasture animals after certain amount of time. Each type of animal has 2 types of leavings - common and rare. This, however, is not related to quality or rarity of said leaving. One animal can drop Sanctuary Fleece as its common leaving and Sanctuary Milk as its rare leaving, but other animal can drop Sanctuary Milk as its common leaving and Sanctuary Fleece as its rare leaving.

Animals always produce its common leaving, but rare leaving has only a chance to drop depending on animals happiness. The happier animal is, the higher chance that it will drop its rare leaving. Happiness is influenced by the quality of its feed.

Produce
Produce are products that have been grown and gathered in Cropland. Every plant takes 48 earth hours to grow and highest upgrade of Cropland has capacity of 20 plots. Each plot yields 5 produce, meaning that maximum amount of produce players can generate is 100 every 48 hours.
Produce can be used to create higher quality feed for pasture animals or to craft items in the Workshop.

Rare Materials
Rare materials can be only obtained through Granary expeditions. They can be used for 3rd upgrades of Workshop III and Granary III or to craft items in Workshop.

Activities
Gathering
Players can collect resources and materials on their island, which are then recorded in the islekeep's index, where players can check where the resource is located. Materials are usually not limited exclusively to this area. With few exceptions, each gathering node contains 2 different resources, but players can only gather them if they have required tools. If player can gather only one resource from node, then they can gather only this resource. If player does not have tools to gather any of the two resources, they cannot see the gathering node at all.

Node Respawn
Nodes have predetermined locations and use simple system where they respawn after player has gathered 10 other nodes. This means that players can keep gathering same 11 nodes in endless loop. However players cannot gather node if their inventory for gathered resource is full (limit is 999).
clear

Crafting
Acessing the Sanctuary Crafting Log, players can create items using the materials acquired from the island. Crafting log has 3 sections:
* Tools - Either players tool which unlock gathering new materials or mammet tools used to expand island. These items can be crafted only once.
* Feed - Food is used to feed pasture animals.
* Restraints - Restraints are used to capture animals.
clear

Construction
A variety of structures can be built on the island. Players must first access the logboard in front of a vacant plot, but they can check status and required materials remotely using "Manage Hideaway" from Islekeep's Index.
clear

Crops
Players can plant seeds and get variety of produce. After upgrading croplands to level 3 at rank 7 and crafting Mammet-sized Cropworker's Tools at rank 8, players can pay Produce Producer for automation of the cropland. Players will not receive Islandexp experience this way.
clear

Pasture
Players can capture animals, feed them and then collect their leavings. After upgrading pasture to level 3 at rank 7 and crafting Mammet-sized Pastureworker's Tools at rank 8, players can pay Creature Comforter for automation of the pasture. Players will not receive Islandexp experience this way.
clear

Releasing Minions
One of each minion, up to 40, can be released to roam free in the various areas of the island. As they while away the hours wandering about the island, players may find they behave differently when left to their own devices.
Chudo-Yudo
Chudo-Yudo is the first boss of the dungeon. He has powerful frontal breath attacks that all players besides the tank should avoid. One strategy is to only have the tank stand in front of Chudo-Yudo, rest of the party members stand behind the dragon at all times. By staying out of his breath attacks, the fight should be fairly easy.

*All non-tanks stand behind the dragon at all times.

Abilities
:Rake is an instant melee attack that deals a small amount of damage.
:Lion's Breath is a casted breath attack that deals a moderate amount of damage and inflicts burns Burns on all targets hit.
:Swinge is a frontal AoE cone attack that deals a moderate amount of damage and inflicts the debuffs silence Silence and pacification Pacification for 5 seconds on all targets hit.

Koshchei
Koshchei is the 2nd dragon boss of The Stone Vigil. This fight was updated in patch 6.1, modifying the arena shape and appearance as well as making mechanics more consistent with the conventions that have developed in the game since this dungeon's initial release. Typhoon is the main mechanic of this fight; it requires players to reposition into safe zones to avoid tornadoes that move in straight lines down the length of the arena dealing moderate damage to any players caught in their path. They move fairly slowly and staying out of their way is fairly simple.

*Returning players should be aware that the updates to this fight are extensive and mostly have the effect of vastly simplifying the battle.

Abilities
:Spiked Tail is this boss's tankbuster. All other party members should steer clear of the tank.
:Sonic Storm is a circular AoE targeted on a random party member. Dodge out of the AoE indicator.
Isgebind is the final boss of The Stone Vigil. The fight was also revamped for patch 6.1, though not as extensively as the battle with Koshchei. This icy dragon has powerful breath attacks along with massive AoE capabilities. Non-tank party members should stay away from the front of the dragon to avoid its breath attacks.

Throughout the fight, Isgebind will take flight and a strip about a third of the room in width will glow with a icy blue light. After a few seconds Isegebind will fly over the area and use its frost breath. Players caught in the area will take damage and the debuff frostbite Frostbite for moderate damage over time. Squishier players (e.g. healers and ranged DPS) can be killed instantly by this, so be careful. Stand near the middle and be prepared to run toward one side. However, when Isegebind returns to the arena, players should move out of the center to avoid being squished by its Touchdown attack.

:Typhoon spawns three whirlwinds at the back of the arena the first time it is cast and four thereafter. For the first cast, simply move to the empty lane to avoid the whirlwinds. *Deadly Thrust: A player will be targeted and a large green poison puddle will be placed at their position that inflicts a Pollen debuff, dealing damage over time to any players standing inside of it.

Cactpot is a lottery system introduced in patch 2.51 as part of the Gold Saucer. Players will be able to enter into mini cactpot (daily) and jumbo cactpot (weekly) to win Manderville Gold Saucer Points.

*Each character can only enter once per entry period.

Unlock
Players must complete the level 15 quests Scratch It Rich and Hitting the Cactpot. Players can start the Hitting the Cactpot by talking to Jumbo Cactpot Broker in Gold Saucer (X:8, Y:5). Players can start the Scratch It Rich by talking to Mini Cactpot Broker in Gold Saucer (X:5, Y:6). Players must have previously completed It Could Happen to You.

Mini Cactpot
The Mini Cactpot is a daily lottery you can participate in 3 times per earth day (resets every day at 10 AM EST / 7 AM PST / 8 AM PDT). Each ticket costs 10 MGP. Similar to a scratch-off lottery ticket, you'll reveal numbers, and depending on the sum of the numbers the rewards you can obtain will differ.

How to Play
1. Select Numbers

Every ticket has nine spaces with each numbered randomly from one to nine. At the start, however, eight of these nine spaces will be hidden. To begin, select three numbers from the eight hidden on your ticket.

2. Select a Line

Next, select one of eight lines─vertical, horizontal, or diagonal. When selecting a line, the sum of the three numbers in that line will determine the amount of MGP you receive.

3. Receive a Prize

After you have selected a line, all the numbers are uncovered, and you will receive MGP based on the sum of the line you chose.
Jumbo Cactpot
The Jumbo Cactpot is a weekly lottery that you can participate in once every earth week by purchasing a ticket with four numbers you select (each digit is between 0 - 9). You purchase this ticket with 100 Manderville Gold Saucer points, and each week there will be a drawing that takes place in the Manderville Gold Saucer. The more tickets Gold Saucer sells, the bigger the prize will be.

When the winning number is drawn, in order from the last digit to the first, the more matching numbers you have, the greater the prize you'll receive. You win the maximum prize if you get all four numbers. You have up to one week to pick up the prize. There will also be an Early Bird Bonus if you exchange your winning ticket within one hour of the drawing.

The winner of Jumbo Cactpot will not only get MGP but also the Mad Bird Ring.

In Patch 3.4, players can now purchase up to 3 tickets per week. The 2nd and 3rd tickets cost 150 and 200 MGP, respectively.

The drawing time for different Data Centers are different:
