The Veena clan (ヴィーナ氏族, "Vu-ina shizoku" meaning "Veena Group") are native to the forests at the foothills of the Skatany Range and live as a hunter-gatherer society. While male Veena stand guard over the forests they inhabit, the females guard their homes and children.

History
The Veena preside in the forests surrounding the Skatany Range. After the Empire took over Dalmasca and divided the land into two regions, even though the forces of the Empire were stronger, they had a very difficult time taking the whole of Nagxia, as the smaller groups used the forests around the Skatay Range to their advantage. While the Veena turned people away, they did still take some in and offer them refuge. However, in recent times, the fires of war have led to some of the Veena breaking the Green Word and leaving their ancestral homeland for the cities of Eorzea.

Due to their strict adherence to the Green Word, Most Viera have had little to no interaction with the outside world, with very few willing to suffer exile. However, in more recent times, the Viera can be seen living in outside cities and are often held in high regard and seen as "mysterious". However, under Garlean rule, like many other peoples, Viera are treated like all others who aren’t pureblood Garlean; as lower-class citizens. This is made all the more difficult for the Viera considering they forsake their himes in search of freedom.

Physical Attributes
Most Viera for both the Veena and Rava clan are born female, roughly 80%. From birth, male and female Viera children are physically identical and are referred to as Kits. Once kits reach the age of maturity, around their thirteenth nameday, their gender becomes more apparent. From this point on, the Viera will move into adulthood, where they will keep their physical youth for centuries. Where a Hyur might live to see eighty summers, Viera are said to live to see 12 score or more.

The Veena, like the Rava, are tall and slender. They have large leporine ears and fair, pale skin, often compared to the caps of the mountains surrounding their home. The tallest Veena females can reach up to 75 ilms, while the males stand slightly shorter at 73 ilms.

Culture
The Veena tribe is a solely matriarchal society. Following a set of laws known as The Green Word, the Viera are forbidden contact with the outside world, as well as leaving their homeland under threat of exile. This code also keeps of-age male Veena from living in the villages, instead taking up the mantle of "Wood-Warder" and protecting the settlements from any and all intruders, while the females hunt and gather for the village, and are charged with protecting their homes and young.

When the Empire invaded Dalmasca, several units were sent into the forests and jungles to round up the Viera. From this, only a few soldiers returned, and the Viera with them came of their own volition.

The word "Viera" means "People of the Wood", and the people of the Veena live up to this, taking care to not only safeguard the forests from evil and invasion, but to nourish and care for the woods as well.

Though the Veena have lived by the Green Word for centuries and very few used to venture beyond the land they were born to, in recent years following the wars waged by Dalmasca and the Empire, more and more Veena have been abandoning the Green Word and their ancestral birthplace in favor of setting out for cities, currently making up around 5% of the population of Dalmasca.

Male Veena
Under the Green Word, male Veena are not permitted to live in the villages, nor hold positions of rule or power. Once a Veena is determined to be male, he will be taught the ways of the Wood-Warder. Males return to the villages infrequently, roughly every three to five summers, only to mate and take any males who have come of age to train them to protect and care for the woods, as well as how to live in the wilds. This training takes many years and is incredbily brutal, more often than not resulting in the death of the young jack. Once the jack obtains the title of master, he may then live on his own.

Male Veena Viera live in extreme solitude with no community. Everything, from food to weapons to clothing must be obtained by themselves without others helping. They often live and die alone, protecting the forests in which they dwell.

Nomenclature
The Rava and Veena both share naming conventions, meaning that a Viera's name will not be indicative of what clan they are from. Generally, forenames are split into two ideologies, a "forest" name and a "city" name. A forest name is given to a Viera at birth and is used by any Viera who live in their ancestral homeland These names generally resemble and follow the grammatical structure of real-world Icelandic names. However, once a Viera leaves their homeland and sets out to explore the world, they will drop their "forest" name as a mark of breaking from the traditional Viera way of life. The Viera will then choose a name for themselves, or a "city" name. These names can be anything and have no notable markers.

For surnames, they are generally taken from what village the Viera is from. Like forenames, they are generally dropped upon leaving the forest.
*Taken off guard by your decision to remain in his company, Ronitt decides to show you one of his automaton creations. When the invention faithfully echoes Ronitt's hesitant greeting, however, the young dwarf quickly grows frustrated with your confused reaction. Smooth his ruffled beard by delivering the bucket of cobalt coal to Xemutt, as requested.
*You upend the bucket into the automaton's fuel chute. Xemutt will be pleased to know that Diligent Spirit now has coal to burn.
*After thanking you for refueling her automaton helper, Xemutt expresses sadness at Ronitt's misplaced anger and misunderstood intentions. She pleads for you to exercise patience with the difficult youth before sending you on your way.
*Ronitt seems suspicious of what Xemutt may have shared with you, but nonetheless thanks you for your help. Little by little, you feel the young dwarf is warming up to you...
*Nonowato longs to live in a world where he is able to simply ask you to do some mining.

*Nonowato greets you once again by dangling the prospect of a mining job in front of you before cruelly snatching it away. It seems yet another fight has broken out at the Bangpots and Stickqix would appreciate your help. You hurry to the manufactory with Nonowato to see exactly what is going on.

*You find Stickqix in the midst of longing for simpler times when his work was seldom interrupted by infighting. He explains that Stackblox and Zansei have been arguing over the design of the gobroller's controls. You agree to play mediator once more and go to talk with the two workers.

*If there is one thing Stickqix's workers are not lacking, it is passion. Zansei and Stackblox have been locked in a heated debate and whether the Gobroller's controls should be made to accommodate men or goblins. having ascertained their respective positions, you are now ready to fill Stickqix in on the situation.

*You explain the cause of the quarrel to Stickqix and he asks that you obtain feather iron ore on his behalf. You are told that his merchant friend will be able to explain where you are to begin the search. You head for the Hard Place wondering just who Stickqix's friend is exactly.

*After arriving at the Hard Place you are greeted by a familiar gobbieface, one that has helped you before. Remembering your past favor, the goblin merchant tells you the location of the mineral you seek free of charge. You prepare yourself for the long journey to Sakazuki all in the good name of technological innovation.

*Stickqix shows the minerals he requested to Zansei and Stackblox in the hope that it might get their creative juices flowing. Sadly, neither of them are able to grasp what he is suggesting and Stickqix is forced to spell things out: Zansei and Stackblox must work together using the fruits of your labor to create controls which suit all races.

*You speak with Stickqix once more. He has been troubled enough by the recent disharmony that he is considering asking an old friend, Slowfix, for advice on how to proceed. Not wishing to weigh you down with such heavy thoughts, he bids you head outside and join Nonowato, who has been patiently waiting for you.

*Nonowato thanks you again for your efforts while apologizing that he was unable to do more himself. He suggests you use the time you have before the next job to rest up and hone your mining skills.
The two of you prepare to head to Gridania in order to consult Fufucha regarding this unforeseen predicament.

*Speaking with Fufucha, you learn that even the guild's botanists have been stumped by Edgyth's problems. As no one else is seemingly capable of getting to the root of the issue, Fufucha asks for you to examine the plants with a fresh pair of eyes. You set off on the trip back to Idyllshire with your new mission in mind.
You talk some sense to her and, after regaining her composure, she bids you head to Stickqix's Bangpots in order to have Goldwox there create a reagent. Edgyth says this holds the key to identifying the blight affecting the popotoes.

*You hand Edgyth's order to Goldwox. The goblin girl informs you that while she can make the reagent you require, she first needs you to bring her eight dumps of nanoriso. You prepare to embark on a long journey to Rasen Kaikyo by the Ruby Sea in search of the exotic plant.

*You return to the Bangpots, weary from your travels, and furnish Goldwox with her requested nanoriso. She is at last able to synthesize a reagent for you, which you gladly accept. The object you came for in hand, you begin the trip back to Greengrub Mudplots, hoping to finally solve the mystery behind the problematic popotoes.

*After applying the reagent, it becomes apparent the menace that has laid waste to the popotoes is none other than an eelworm. The stones you discovered were in fact the creature's eggs, which Sawney theorizes hatched in the Mudplots fairly recently. Upon learning all of this, Fufucha asks for some time to allow her to invent a plan to tackle the eelworm threat.

*The next botanist quest will be available from Edgyth upon reaching level 70.

Meanwhile, an enthusiastic Gyoshin has restored two pavilions in record time, which should serve to house the Namazu newly come to join in the festivities. Promising though all this is, your continued assistance will doubtless be necessary to reach Gyoshin's goal of attracting seven hundred seventy-seven participants─and saving the Namazu people from a fiery, watery, or otherwise unpleasant doom.
*Forgemaster H'naanza wishes you to offer a sympathetic ear to a novice armorer.

*H'naanza is concerned about one of her more diligent novices who is uncharacteristically late with an order. Speak with Dyrstwyda at the Armorers' Guild and learn what has caused the delay.

*It seems that after being subjected to some withering criticism from Blanstyr, a veteran armorer, Dyrstwyda has lost confidence in her ability. Speak with Blanstyr at the Armorers' Guild and discover what prompted his scathing remark.

*Before Blanstyr will discuss what prompted him to criticize Dyrstwyda, he demands that you prove your ability as an armorer. Synthesize a decorated bronze barbut and a bronze buckler and deliver them to the veteran artisan.

*You have delivered the requested pieces to Blanstyr, and thereby earned his grudging respect. Rather than explain his criticism of Dyrstwyda's work, he instead insists that you tell the crestfallen novice to learn to examine her own flaws or turn her back on the forge for good. Return to Dyrstwyda with Blanstyr's “advice.”

*After hearing Blanstyr's advice, Dyrstwyda seems even more inclined to abandon her dream of becoming a master armorer. Perhaps it wasn't such a good idea to recount his words so faithfully... Return to Forgemaster H'naanza and apprise her of the situation.

*H'naanza reveals that she and Blanstyr were once apprenticed to the same master, but that an irreconcilable difference of opinion has kept the two armorers at odds for many years. Loath to allow their old rivalry to undermine the unity of the guild, H'naanza pledges to think upon what can be done to resolve the matter once and for all. Continue to hone your skills as an armorer that you might provide support to the forgemaster when the time comes.

*Haimirich has a job for you and you alone.

*It seems that House Fortemps will be leading a new push against Dravania, and needs to armor itself for a fierce battle. For this purpose, only titanium will serve. However, it is unclear where ore can be mined in sufficient quantity to fulfill the knights' needs. Haimirich turns to you for an answer, and, given that you do not seem to have one, bids you seek the counsel of your guildmaster. Armed with a sample of titanium, make your way to Ul'dah and see what Adalberta has to say.

*You find Wide Gulley speaking with Adalberta. Though you came to speak with the latter, it is the former who tells you where to find the titanium. It seems that some years ago, Deep Canyon came across a similar sample of the metal in the hands of a hunter who made his living in the Dravanian forelands. Wide Gulley swears that the chunk of metal you brought is identical to the one the hunter had, and Adalberta theorizes that the ore must originate in the area. Return now to Haimirich at the Forgotten Knight with this piece of information.

*Upon hearing it was a hunter who found the first sample of titanium, Haimirich exclaims that the vein of the ore you seek must be somewhere near the Chocobo Forest. Though this is hardly definitive, Haimirich is willing to mobilize Oschon's Raiders on this hunch. Rendezvous with them in the Dravanian forelands.

*Haimirich dispatches his men to mind the perimeter while you search for the presence of a rich lode beneath the trees. Mine ten chunks of titanium ore from nearby mineral deposits, and deliver them to the captain when you are done.

*Haimirich happily takes the ore, and, after Muscles returns from clearing the path homewards, bids you all return to Ishgard. Make your way back to the Holy See and speak with Haimirich there.

*You find Haimirich both happy and worried. The cause is Hatchling. The captain tells you that the lad has a bright future, but only if he can overcome his own pride. Failing that, he may very well find himself in a situation he cannot outlive. Though you feel there is more to this story, Haimirich suddenly changes subjects, and you sense that now is not the time to ask further.

※The next miner quest will be available from Haimirich upon reaching level 58.

Haimirich therefore tasks you with discovering whether or not a sufficient quantity of pure ore can be pulled from underground. With your marching orders now set, Haimirich bids you join him and his men to the southwest of the Black Iron Bridge.
*You find Oschon's Raiders idling near the base of the bridge. However, all jump to attention when Haimirich calls, and they listen attentively as he gives them their individual orders. Finally, he comes to you, and tells you to find ten chunks of mythrite ore in the area. Begin your search at the mineral deposits near the Gorgagne Holding, and return to Haimirich with your findings when finished.
*Haimirich gladly accepts the mythrite ore just before Hatchling comes running with ill tidings─one of the Raiders has been injured. The Raider captain wastes no time in sending the man to Falcon's Nest for treatment, and then treats you and Hatchling to his thoughts on being a sellsword before returning to the Forgotten Knight. Meet with him there when you head back to Ishgard.

Steps
*Speak with Wide Gulley.

*Deliver 20 Raw Amethyst to Wide Gulley.

Journal
*Adalberta has an order she would like you to handle.

*Adalberta has asked you to obtain twenty high-quality raw amethysts. Confessing that the gemstones are not her speciality, she bids you speak with Wide Gulley to learn where they might be found.

*Wide Gulley obliges you with the information, but only because he is certain that you will fail at your task. Being careful to avoid the fearsome creatures in the area, make your way to Hopeseed Pond in the Central Shroud, and obtain twenty high-quality raw amethysts. Once you have the required quantity, present them to Wide Gulley.

*Wide Gulley cannot hide his surprise that you were able to brave the dangers to procure the amethysts. To your credit, the man has come to see you as a rival, and expresses his intent to redouble his efforts. Keep working at your craft, that you might be prepared when the next contest inevitably comes.

*The next miner quest will be available from Adalberta upon reaching level 40.
