==Steps==
*Speak with [[Hildibrand]] and have him accompany you.
*Search for clues while Hildibrand and [[Nashu]] are accompanying you.
*Search for more clues while Hildibrand and Nashu are accompanying you.
*Search for even more clues while Hildibrand and Nashu are accompanying you.
*Speak with Hildibrand in [[Radz-at-Han]].

==Journal==
* Unfazed by events that would shatter the mind of a lesser man, Hildibrand stands ready to begin his next case.

* Inspector's Log:
: After being hauled into the sky and stuffed into a cramped space like so much airship baggage, I have at last convinced my amiable captor to release me from his custody. Master PuPu is not of this star─as was evinced by his unintelligible tongue and unfathomable technology─yet with the help of a preternaturally talented associate, I have deduced that the matter which brought him to our star is a cause worthy of investigation. Fear not, fellow sentient beings, for otherworldly origins notwithstanding, Hildibrand Helidor Maximilian Manderville is a friend to one and all!
:　　　　　　　　　　　　*　*　*
:None the worse for wear after his extraterrestrial escapade, Hildibrand is eager to embark on a new case. Before his “channeling” can produce a viable lead, however, your recent Loporrit guide arrives to report a nearby sighting of...Hildibrand. Several moments of confusion and logical reasoning later, it is determined that one of the clones escaped PuPu's vaporization beam, and is now running loose somewhere on the moon. Hildibrand insists upon eliminating this impostor inspector before any damage can be done to the Manderville name.

* With eyes peeled for gentlemanly tracks, you set off in search of the defective clone. Considering the chaos which routinely erupts around the original, even a slightly shoddy imitation should not be too hard to find...
** ※You must be accompanied by Hildibrand and Nashu to complete this task. Speak with either of them again in the north of Mare Lamentorum should you become separated.

* You stumble across a thinker whose last thought seems to have been interrupted by the sudden and violent interjection of a goldsmithing hammer. This does not, however, appear to have been the work of the clone. The search continues...
** ※You must be accompanied by Hildibrand and Nashu to complete this task. Speak with either of them again in the north of Mare Lamentorum should you become separated.

* You find another victim of blunt force trauma, but again, no sign of the fugitive clone. Though you resolve to press on with the search, one would be forgiven for wondering if you've stumbled upon the trail of a serial killer with an endless supply of hammers...
** ※You must be accompanied by Hildibrand and Nashu to complete this task. Speak with either of them again in the north of Mare Lamentorum should you become separated.

* The discovery of fancy footprints at last leads you to the object of your hunt. No sooner have you spotted the clone, however, when an all but in the altogether Godbert appears out of nowhere, and proceeds to demonstrate a cataclysmic level of Manderville affection for his beloved son. After the dust settles and the music stops, PuPu vaporizes the flawed duplicate, marking the end of one of the inspector's active cases. Godbert, meanwhile, is relieved to find the genuine Hildibrand in relatively good health. He offers his gratitude for your part in seeing his boy's soul safely reunited with his body, and expresses a desire to consult with you back in Radz-at-Han. Something regarding a certain rare ore he located on the moon... Agreeing with the idea of heading starward, Hildibrand is eager to continue the search for PuPu's comrade closer to home.

* Returned to the relative normalcy of Thavnair, Hildibrand resumes the Case of the Silent Correspondent with Nashu and PuPu in tow. Delion holds back, however, and divulges to you his intention to investigate the little blue man and his diabolical devices. Even as you tacitly agree to assist the editor in chief, you are approached by Godbert with yet another request for aid. It seems the master goldsmith has turned his hand to armaments─a change brought on by the terrible events of the Final Days─and he now seeks to craft superior weapons as described in an ancient manual of Manderville family legacy. Should you have time to help gather the necessary materials, you are to alert Godbert's manservant...who will be waiting patiently nearby. For as long as it takes.

{{Dialogue|<nowiki>
===Accepting the quest===
-optional start
Nashu Mhakaracca: Mister PuPu's eyes make me feel dizzy. Like swirls that go around and around and around and around...

Delion: This Echo power of yours sounds...extraordinary. You must allow me to interview you once we've put this business on the moon behind us.

PuPu: I am glad you are here to help ward off any more...PuPu...misunderstandings.

-optional end

-cutscene start

Hildibrand: So begins “The Case of the Silent Correspondent”!

Delion: Uh...not to rain on your parade, but “my friend who was somewhere on your star stopped sending me messages” is not a lot to go on.
Delion: I've spent years investigating the existence of aliens, and recent experiences notwithstanding, they are ''not'' that easy to find.

Nashu Mhakaracca: Then you don't know Inspector Hildibrand! He'll solve this case as he's solved countless others: with unerring perception and panache!

Hildibrand: Ah...hahaha, well said, Nashu! I need but relinquish conscious thought to investigative instinct, and the clues will flow to me forthwith!

Nashu Mhakaracca: Lose yourself in the deductive current, Inspector!

Delion: <gasp> You're ''channeling'', aren't you!? Contacting a higher power to breach the veil of mystery? Another fascinating development.

Laconic Loporrit: Ah, there you are. I've been looking all over!
Laconic Loporrit: Thought you'd like to know that I spotted that chap you were asking about—you know, the well-muscled gentleman with tattered clothing and dazzling teeth?

Nashu Mhakaracca: You mean this gentleman? We found him, too!

Laconic Loporrit: Well, that can't be right!
Laconic Loporrit: I just saw him in the north of Mare Lamentorum, and he ran the other way when I called out. I don't understand how he could've arrived before me...

Nashu Mhakaracca: I have a feeling, Mister Bunny, sir, that what you saw was an impostor.
Nashu Mhakaracca: [Forename], would you mind asking Mister PuPu if he was growing any more inspectors on the moon?

PuPu: PuPu... I only created a single batch, but one did manage to escape the vaporization beam.
PuPu: That individual's behavior was...unpredictable. A flaw in the cloning process, I'm afraid.

Hildibrand: Well, this won't do at all. We cannot have a flawed inspector running around besmirching the Manderville name.
Hildibrand: Master PuPu, I must ask that we hunt down and liquidate my other self as soon as possible. Might we delay the search for your comrade until the deed is done?

PuPu: PuPu... The imperfect clone was of my making. It is only right that I redress my mistake first.

Hildibrand: So begins “The Case of the Impostor Inspector”!

Laconic Loporrit: Ooh, that does sound exciting. If you don't mind me coming along, I can show you the place where I saw the ''impostor inspector''.
-cutscene end

-quest accepted

===Speak with Hildibrand and have him accompany you===
-optional start
Nashu Mhakaracca: Zzz... <snort>

Delion: I wonder what other nefarious abilities this so-called “amicable” alien is hiding.

PuPu: PuPu... My ship's matter duplication facility is prone to the occasional glitch. I should probably have that looked at...

Laconic Loporrit: It was right around here...

-optional end

Hildibrand: I espy with my little eye...no dashingly defective gentlemen.

Laconic Loporrit: He can't have made it that far on foot. Why don't we try searching the immediate area? Scan the horizon, that kind of thing?

Hildibrand: Then I suggest we split up so we can cover more ground. Nashu, [Forename], and I will investigate to the west.

Laconic Loporrit: Right. I'll take these other two and head east.

Delion: Splitting the party ''again''!? And you're leaving me with the ''aliens''!?

Laconic Loporrit: Oh, relax, bright eyes. We'll have a nice chat, and I can disabuse you of all those strange conspiratorial notions. Oh, and we can get to know our new friend here!

Hildibrand: Let us be on our way as well. With [Forename] in the van, if you please!

System: Hildibrand and Nashu are now accompanying you. Keep them at your side in order to proceed with quest objectives.
System: You can leave your quest companions behind by entering a different area, or by speaking with them and selecting the option to part ways.
System: If you wish to have your companions join you again, return and speak with them at the original location.

===Search for clues while Hildibrand and Nashu are accompanying you===

-optional start

Question: What will you do?

> Discuss the Cradle of Darkness
Hildibrand: Behold this sublime vista! 'Tis as if the moon herself breathes beneath our feet!
Nashu Mhakaracca: Oh, look down there─they have their very own hot spring!
Hildibrand: My dear Nashu, what you are observing is no hot spring, but a natural reservoir of ceruleum! With such a rich resource to hand, it is no wonder they can afford these palatial residences!
Nashu Mhakaracca: I'm glad you're here to educate me, Inspector! I was about to take a quick soak!

> Talk.
Hildibrand: Being on the moon reminds me of that time I was blasted all the way to Dalamud. I do believe that was a personal best in terms of distance flung.
Nashu Mhakaracca: When you're up in the sky, our world's a pizza pie, oh so pretty～♪

> Part ways.
Hildibrand: Haha! No rest for the adventurous, is there? We shall await your return at our previous rendezvous point. I wouldn't wish for you to miss anything!
Nashu Mhakaracca: An errand? Please, go ahead! I'll be safe and sound with the inspector around!
> Nothing.
---
-optional end

''Interacting with the Hammer-struck Thinker''
System: A goldsmithing hammer is lodged in the thinker's carcass. It appears to have been dealt a single, swift killing blow.

Nashu Mhakaracca: Cor, the bugs grow big up here, don't they!

Hildibrand: This h-hammer... Surely it cannot be— Nay, it does not bear thinking about.
Hildibrand: Come along! Nothing to see here!

===Search for more clues while Hildibrand and Nashu are accompanying you===

-optional start

Question: What will you do?

> Discuss the starry sky.
Hildibrand: What a dazzling display of stars!

Nashu Mhakaracca: Not a single cloud in sight. In fact, I've never seen the night sky so clearly.

Hildibrand: Now that you mention it, it's been nighttime the entire time I've been here. How much longer until dawn breaks, do you think...?

''Interacting with the Hammer-struck Mousse''

System: Another goldsmithing hammer, another killing blow that bespeaks unparalleled strength...

Nashu Mhakaracca: Aw, it looks like he's yawning. The hammer stuck in his head spoils the effect, though.

Hildibrand: He cannot be here... Why would he be here...?

Nashu Mhakaracca: That's a goldsmithing tool, isn't it? It does look awfully familiar...

Hildibrand: And y-yet completely unrelated to our case! Moving on, people, moving on!

===Search for even more clues while Hildibrand and Nashu are accompanying you===

''Interacting with the Trail of Fancy Footprints''

System: A set of gentlemanly tracks leads to the northwest...

Hildibrand: Aha! In the sand, in the snow, or in a half-ilm of moondust, I'd recognize those fancy footprints anywhere! They're a perfect copy of mine.
Hildibrand: Our fugitive impostor must be just up ahead!

-cutscene start
Hildibrand: I sense a gentlemanly presence. He is close. Very close.

Delion: No clones in the northeastern quadrant...that we could see.

Nashu Mhakaracca: That's clever! Mister PuPu can scout for us from the air!

Hildibrand: Aha! I found...me!

x@Hildiclone: Why? Why did I flee?

Nashu Mhakaracca: He seems sad. Downcast. Very un-inspector-like.

Hildibrand: A flawed creation, to be sure. Such negative emotions would never mar the heart of a true Manderville man.

Godbert: Praise Thal for his patience. 'Twould seem my beloved Hildy has been awoken from his unnatural slumber...

''Godbert unsuccessfully tries to catch Hildiclone.''

x@Hildiclone: Abandoning my gentleman comrades to save myself... My pride in worse tatters than my maltreated wardrobe...

Godbert: My fatherly love, denied? Unthinkable! Unless...that is not my son.

''Hildibrand runs away. Godbert catches him, grabs him by his feet and whirls Hildibrand around himself in a circle.''

x@Hildiclone: Another of me survived!?
x@Hildiclone: I'll not turn tail and run this time, no sir! Hildibrand to the rescue!

''Hildiclone grabs onto Hildibrand and is now also being whirled around by Godbert.''

Godbert: Round and round, as fast as I can!♪
I can't slow down, I'm a Manderville man!♪

''Hildibrand and Hildiclone are hurled into the air. They bounce off asteriods and PuPu's UFO, each landing in one of the nostrils of a giant stone face on the lunar surface. The mouth of the statue opens up and a stage with five loporrits upon it rises up. The loporrits dance and descend once more.''

Delion: Now I ''know'' I'm dreaming. That can't possibly be real...

Laconic Loporrit: Ah, that was a little something we were preparing to welcome the people of Etheirys. I almost forgot it was still there.

''PuPu's damaged UFO flies overhead, dropping random objects. Godbert deflects the objects away from the group.''

Laconic Loporrit: The barrage appears to have stopped, but just look at all this junk!
Laconic Loporrit: Please be sure to pick up your litter before you leave. The moon belongs to everyone, you know.

''Godbert picks up a purple ore.''

Godbert: Oho...

''The group cleans up and Hildiclone is disintegrated.''

Godbert: Hildibrand Helidor Maximilian Manderville, how glad I am to see you up and about! Your mother will be beside herself with joy!

Hildibrand: I only stand before you now thanks to Nashu, who stood ever vigilant at my bedside, and to [Forename], who ferried my soul back from across the rift.

Godbert: My son is indeed blessed with comrades of quality. You have my heartfelt gratitude.
Godbert: To you, Master PuPu, I extend my apologies—in my excitement, I fear I have broken your starship. If there is aught I can do to help effect repairs, you have only to ask.

PuPu: PuPu... My vessel experienced a temporary malfunction, but there was no major structural damage.

Godbert: It brings me relief and joy to hear it.
Godbert: Ahem. Might I have a word, [Forename]? I had actually come to the moon in search of a certain rare ore, and by Thal's good graces, my quest has been successful.
Godbert: The ore, however, is but the first step of a longer saga. Meet me back in Radz–at–Han, and I will explain the role I wish you to play.

Hildibrand: Yes, I think it best we make the journey starwards. We'll not find Master PuPu's friend from up here unless someone packed an extremely efficacious spyglass! Anybody...? No? Then home it is!

Delion: For years, I've chased after the supernatural and the inexplicable, but to encounter so much of it in such a short span of time... My mind still reels from the implications.
Delion: Yet I must keep my gaze focused beyond the veil. A chance like this comes only once in a lifetime!

-cutscene end

===Speak with Hildibrand in Radz-at-Han===
-optional start
Nashu Mhakaracca: See! I told you I recognized those hammers! A good inspector never forgets a tool!

Delion: Now begins the hard work of compiling my notes into a structured account of events. There is so much to say, I may need to stretch this over several articles...

PuPu: PuPu... You needn't worry about the clones returning to plague you. The vaporization ray disassembles matter on a molecular level.

Excitable Youth: Oh, uh, yes...I'm still here. That alien tried to take me away from my Miss Nashu, but as you can see, true love has prevailed!
Excitable Youth: I'll be around, as always, lurking—ahem, keeping an adoring eye on the most beautiful girl in the world. From a respectful distance, of course.
-optional end

Hildibrand: Ah, how lovely to be back on the star of my birth! Father did not tarry to chat, but said something about returning here with a trusted employee...

-cutscene start
Hildibrand: Well, we've no time for further familial pleasantries! Nashu and I must devote all our mental energies to “The Case of the Silent Correspondent”!
Hildibrand: My keen inspector's sense impels me to begin our search in ''that direction''. Make haste, my companions, for justice waits for no man! Not even one who is little and blue!

Nashu Mhakaracca: Inspector, wait! Can't justice make an exception for me!?

Delion: His channeling appears to be remarkably effective. Fascinating. Yes, most fascinating indeed...
Delion: [Forename], forgive me: I seem to have been laboring under a misconception.
Delion: After spending some time with the xeno-bunnies, it has become clear to me that they have not the slightest intention of invading our star. They are no threat to us...
Delion: ...But ''he'' is! You know of whom I speak! That devious Master PuPu and his diabolical devices devised solely for world domination!
Delion: I shall have to investigate him further to learn the intricacies of his plans, but I may require your aid—not to mention your interpretation.
Delion: I'll even pay you a retainer fee. So please, when the time comes, join me on my quest for the ''Truth''.

Godbert: Ah, [Forename], my apologies for the wait. Shall we proceed to business, then?
Godbert: The task at hand concerns nothing less than a family legacy...
Godbert: The recreation of the historically significant and astronomically magnificent Manderville weapons!
Godbert: They were the designs of a distant ancestor, you see. While the originals have long since vanished, the manual containing the secrets of their construction survived—a precious heirloom passed down through generations of Mandervilles.

Question: What will you say?

> Why the sudden passion for weaponsmithing?
> Aren't your hammers built for hammering gold?
---

Godbert: 'Tis true that, as a goldsmith, I've had little occasion for crafting implements of war. “Why this project, and why now?” you may very well ask. Then I shall very well tell you.
Godbert: The tale begins not so long ago. I was here, in Radz–at–Han, to discuss a deal with an up-and-coming merchant.
Godbert: The matter in question was an acquisition proposal. Alas, the talks soured, so I made preparations to depart. It was then that the sky burst into flame.
Godbert: You know all too well what horrors followed. I did my best to defend the citizenry from the beasts which spawned, yet I could not save them all. Saved far too few, in fact.
Godbert: The memory of it haunted me, day and night, and I found myself unable to work. But then I heard the news of how you and your companions had ventured forth to banish this evil at its source.
Godbert: You forged on in the face of deepest despair...and it gave me the courage to do the same!
Godbert: I took a good, hard look in the looking glass and asked, “What can Godbert Manderville do to safeguard the people of this star?” Thus did I realize that I had both the knowledge and the skill to forge the greatest of weapons, that I might empower others to protect themselves and their fellow man.
Godbert: So I began going down the list, acquiring the necessary materials with single-minded purpose. One of these was a goodly chunk of purest manderium ore—a metal found exclusively in meteorites, and that only rarely.
Godbert: I searched high and low, scouring impact sites and consorting with kobolds, all to no avail. Then, when none was to be found on Hydaelyn, I set my sights on the moon, where I at last obtained a sizable sample.
Godbert: Now I say, “at last,” but the list of materials goes on. If I'm to collect the rest in a timely fashion, I must employ the help of a comrade of quality!
Godbert: When you can spare a moment from adventuring—or aiding my dear son in his inspecting—pray drop a word in the ear of my manservant here.
Godbert: I shall clear my schedule of trivial interruptions, and we can proceed with the recreation of a Manderville weapon forthwith!
*Search for more clues while Hildibrand and Nashu are accompanying you.
*Speak with Hildibrand in [[Radz-at-Han]].

==Journal==
* Unfazed by events that would shatter the mind of a lesser man, Hildibrand stands ready to begin his next case.

* Inspector's Log:

===Accepting the quest===

> Talk.
Hildibrand: Being on the moon reminds me of that time I was blasted all the way to Dalamud. I do believe that was a personal best in terms of distance flung.

Hildibrand: Aha! In the sand, in the snow, or in a half-ilm of moondust, I'd recognize those fancy footprints anywhere! They're a perfect copy of mine.
Hildibrand: Our fugitive impostor must be just up ahead!

Nashu Mhakaracca: That's clever! Mister PuPu can scout for us from the air!

*Speak with [[Nashu]] at [[Camp Broken Glass]].
*Speak with Nashu.
*Speak with Nashu at [[Sinus Lacrimarum]].
*Speak with Nashu and have her accompany you.
*Gather information while Nashu and [[Delion]] are accompanying you.
*Gather more information while Nashu and Delion are accompanying you.
*Gather even more information while Nashu and Delion are accompanying you.
*Search for the alien craft from the vantage point.
*Speak with [[Hildibrand]].

==Journal==
* Nashu Mhakaracca awaits your approach, like a butterfly poised to set off a hurricane.

* In full knowledge of the fact that hijinks of subjective hilarity will ensure, you engage Nashu in conversation, who proceeds to regale you with her theory that Inspector Hildibrand has, in fact, been spirited away to the moon─a lead she attributes to the quote-unquote journalism of ''The Thavnairian Truth''. Hoping to follow in the footsteps of Dorian, the editor in chief, as he chases his story into the heavens above, the irrepressible Nashu insists that you accompany her to Garlemald and its not-so-secret lunar portal.

* After arriving in Camp Broken Glass, a shivering Nashu asks for the location of the portal in question. She trudges off in the direction of the Tower of Babil, and once again, in contravention of common sense, you feel compelled to follow.

* In the Enceladeum you come upon an exasperated Delion attempting to convince the gatekeeper to allow him passage. Although you make no particular attempt to vouch for his character, the guard decides that Delion is sufficiently enmeshed in your efforts to find the abducted Hildibrand that special dispensation is warranted. Lucky you. Your party, now a mismatched trio, is free to proceed through the Nethergate...

* While Nashu admires the shiny white and decidedly inedible surface of the moon, Delion spies what he declares a “forward base.” You follow the alien-obsessed editor into the building, only to find him not-quite-speechless at the sight of the watcher and a visiting Loporrit. Although rightfully concerned by Delion's conspiracy-laden outbursts, the Loporrit nevertheless agrees to escort you to Bestways Burrow, where you can continue to gather information on the inspector's possible whereabouts.

* Delion is, for a few blessed moments, stricken dumb by the sight of the burrow's expansive facilities. Alas, he recovers in time to join you and Nashu in questioning the local Loporrits.
** ※You must be accompanied by Nashu and Delion to complete this task. Speak with either of them again should you become separated.

* You interrogate a languid Loporrit, but learn nothing of value. Perhaps another of his brethren has more information to share.
** ※You must be accompanied by Nashu and Delion to complete this task. Speak with either of them again should you become separated.

* The Loporrit promoter has seen many an unusual visitor...but none of them appear to have been the inspector. Third bunny's the charm?
** ※You must be accompanied by Nashu and Delion to complete this task. Speak with either of them again should you become separated.

* Weavingway has no recollection of a gentleman in ragged clothes, but did spot an unidentified object flying in the south of Mare Lamentorum. As the incessant theorizing of Delion fades into background noise, you head outside to follow this most promising lead.

* You catch sight of your shiny quarry and race off in pursuit, only stopping when you find a familiar pair of legs sticking up out of the ground. Then you spot another pair. And another. As if someone had sowed a field of inverted gentlemen. The Hildibrands free themselves, and, following a brief festival of masculinity, the alien vessel returns to reap the Mandervillian harvest─with extreme prejudice. Thankfully, the original Hildibrand is returned to you unharmed shortly thereafter by the craft's pilot─a short, blue, bipedal creature introduced to you as “Master PuPu.” Through the inspector's explanation and the impeccable timing of the Echo, you piece together the extraterrestrial's story, learning that PuPu has come from a distant star in search of his own missing comrade. In words that lean dangerously close to becoming a catchphrase, the impassioned Inspector Hildibrand vows to solve this latest case.

* Your ability to communicate with PuPu has earned you the admiration of Hildibrand...and the unnerving attentions of Delion. If naught else, the new case in which you find yourself embroiled promises to be equal parts eventful and ludicrous indeed.

==Dialogue==
{{Dialogue|<nowiki>
===Accepting the quest===
Nashu Mhakaracca: [Forename], I have a new lead! And, just as I promised, you're the first to know!
Nashu Mhakaracca: Before we get into the details, though, I should give you back your soul container.
Nashu Mhakaracca: I gave it a good scrub first, of course. Being the gentleman that he is, I'm sure the inspector wouldn't want to leave any lingering spiritual odors.
Nashu Mhakaracca: There. Now you can listen to my findings without having distracting thoughts like, “When is Nashu going to give me back my soul container?”
Nashu Mhakaracca: Now, as for the lead I mentioned—I was thumbing through a periodical and found an article on “alien abduction”!
Nashu Mhakaracca: The way it was described was almost exactly what happened to the inspector...it even had a little diagram of a man swimming in midair. Anyway, the author seemed convinced that the victim had been taken to the moon!

Question: What will you say?

> This crackpot theory sounds awfully familiar...
> Why does this sound like the kind of rubbish ''The Thavnairian Truth'' publishes...?
---

Nashu Mhakaracca: That's because it is! You remember Dorian, the editor in briefs? He was the one who wrote it!
Nashu Mhakaracca: And he plans on doing research for the next edition on the moon itself. Apparently there's a portal or something in Garlemald that will take you straight there?
Nashu Mhakaracca: Oh, but a world-hopping adventurer like you must've been to the moon already! Know it like the back of your hand, I bet?
Nashu Mhakaracca: I thought so! It'll be nice to have an expert guide up there to help me search for clues. What say you?

Question: What will you say?

> To the moon, Nashu! (this does not have a unique response)
> We shouldn't be so quick to trust the nonsensical ramblings of a man who sees aliens in every shadow.
Nashu Mhakaracca: But an alien ''did'' steal away the inspector, just like Dorian said! I, for one, have faith in his journalistic intensity.
Nashu Mhakaracca: And even if it wasn't an alien, that funny little ship did look like it was heading moonwards. Wouldn't you agree?
---
Nashu Mhakaracca: Right! I'll start packing my bags!
Nashu Mhakaracca: I don't know what the weather is like on the moon, but I remember Garlemald being a bit chilly the last time I was there...

-quest accepted

===Speak with Nashu at Camp Broken Glass===

Nashu Mhakaracca: Oh, it's m-much, much colder than I r-remembered. I sure hope this lunar gate is close...
Nashu Mhakaracca: The “Tower of Babble”? You mean that big, spiky spire?
Nashu Mhakaracca: Well, we definitely shouldn't get lost on the way there! Let's get moving!

===Speak with Nashu===
Nashu Mhakaracca: So, uh, this thing'll send us up to the moon, just like that? Courage, Nashu...

-cutscene start
Delion@???: The world is in grave danger and the people deserve to know! I have to reach the moon so I can expose the truth!

Lente's Arrow: As I have explained to you twice already, I can only allow passage to authorized travelers. Which you are not.

Delion: Ah! You're with ''them'', aren't you!? The aliens have infiltrated every layer of our society...

Lente's Arrow: What in blazes are you talking about? I'm Dalmascan, born and raised...

Nashu Mhakaracca: Oh, look! It's Dorian! The editor in briefs!

Delion: That's “Delion, editor in chief,” thank you very much. And you were friends of the abducted, I believe...?

Lente's Arrow: [Forename], greetings. Are you acquainted with this man, by any chance?

Question: What will you say?

> He exposited in my direction. Once.
Lente's Arrow: And that was enough, I'd wager. He has “trouble” written all over him...
> No, nor am I affiliated with him in any way, shape, or form.
Lente's Arrow: I wouldn't think so. He doesn't seem the kind of company a hero like you would keep...
---
Nashu Mhakaracca: But, [Forename], aren't you forgetting that whole conversation we had with Dorian back in Radz–at–Han?

Delion: [Forename]? As in [Forename] [Surname]—Slayer of Gods, Savior of Ishgard, Liberator of the Provinces, Stealer of Pants!? How did I fail to recognize such an unbelievably famous individual!
Delion: As a champion of the people, you have a duty to lead us through this fact-strangling checkpoint! We cannot let your comrade's abduction go unsolved! He needs you! And the world needs my next article!

Lente's Arrow: ...And you believe he was taken to the moon?
Lente's Arrow: Well, that certainly sounds like an emergency to me! Your “acquaintance” here seems sincere in his desire to help, so I will grant him special dispensation to accompany you just this once. You may proceed to the Nethergate.

Delion: Mysterious forces have thrust us together, and though I trust the fates about as much as I trust that obviously compromised gate guard, I will leave no moonstone unturned. The truth is up there!
-cutscene end

-optional start
Delion: Is...is this it? Are we here?
-optional end

===Speak with Nashu at Sinus Lacrimarum===
Nashu Mhakaracca: Oooh, the moon is just as white and shiny up close. <sniff> <sniff> But not made of cheese. And no sign of Inspector Hildibrand either...

Delion: So...we've already arrived!? The Empire's technology is more advanced than I feared...
Delion: <gasp> Over there! The aliens have built some kind of forward base on the lunar surface! We must sneak in and blow the lid on their invasion plans...

Nashu Mhakaracca: Looks like Dorian has a lead. Come on, we should follow him.

-cutscene start
Delion: Aliens! Honest-to-gods aliens! I never expected them to be so tall...or so small and bunny-like...

The Watcher (NPC)@The Watcher: Welcome. If I had known I was receiving so many visitors, I would have sent for more tea...

Delion: That voice...speaking inside my head... I don't know the words, but their meaning is clear... Are...are they wielding psychic powers to try and brainwash me!?

Laconic Loporrit: You all right there, friend? Need help with anything in particular?

Delion: And this one speaks our tongue fluently! Learned it from your Sharlayan collaborators, I'll wager. Don't think you'll fool me, what with your adorable bunny nose and silken ears! I'll print the truth before you arrive to beguile my fellow men!

Laconic Loporrit: You're one of Urianger's friends, aren't you? I'm not sure who or what put such odd ideas into your companion's head, but would you mind setting him straight for me...?

Question: What will you say?

> The Loporrits are not alien invaders...although their adorableness does belie their capacity for shenanigans.
> The Loporrits are allies of all mankind—misguided attempts to make us live off carrots alone notwithstanding.
---

Delion: <gasp> They got to you, didn't they!?
Delion: I suppose I shouldn't be surprised—I've heard the rumors about the “disbanded” Scions of the Seventh Dawn. The formerly secret society has in truth become all the more secret, that it may pull our leaders' strings from the shadows...

Nashu Mhakaracca: Hold it right there, mister! I won't stand here and listen to you slander [Forename] or this lovely bunny any longer. You better not libel them neither!
Nashu Mhakaracca: We actually came in search of Inspector Hildibrand, a dashing gentleman who we think was brought here by a shiny flying saucer. You wouldn't happen to have seen either of them around here, would you?

The Watcher (NPC)@The Watcher: I am afraid I have seen neither. Long was it my duty to keep watch, but as the need for constant vigilance has since ended, I have grown accustomed to idleness. It's rather refreshing, really. Anyway, perhaps the Loporrits may have observed this man or his abductor...?

Laconic Loporrit: Hmm, I feel I would've remembered if I had. The others might have seen something, though.
Laconic Loporrit: Why don't I take you over to Bestways Burrow, and you can ask them about it yourself?

Nashu Mhakaracca: That sounds like a wonderful idea! Please, lead the way!

Laconic Loporrit: If nothing else, getting an eyeful of the facilities we built for the benefit of mankind should help reassure your suspicious friend there.
-cutscene end

===Speak with Nashu and haver her accompany you===
-optional start
Delion: Good gods...

Laconic Loporrit: I knew it. Seeing the burrow in all its magnificence has left your friend speechless.
-optional end

Nashu Mhakaracca: So. Many. Bunnies!

Delion: If they can build a forward base on this scale, then what hope does mankind have against them...?

Laconic Loporrit: Oh, for the love of carrots, this is not a military operation! Do you see any cannons or assault craft? We haven't any weaponry at all.
Laconic Loporrit: Take your time, and chat with whomever you like. As for me, I've got perfectly innocuous and not-at-all nefarious things to do. Bye now!

Nashu Mhakaracca: Right, then! Let's get on with the investigation!

System: Nashu and Delion are now accompanying you. Keep them at your side in order to proceed with quest objectives.
System: You can leave your quest companions behind by entering a different area, or by speaking with them and selecting the option to part ways.
System: If you wish to have your companions join you again, return and speak with them at the original location.

-optional start
Question: What will you do?
>Discuss the aetheryte.
Nashu Mhakaracca: Look! They even have an aetheryte here!
>Talk.
Nashu Mhakaracca: Oooh, I just want to nibble on their fuzzy widdle ears.
> Part ways.
Nashu Mhakaracca: You have a case more important than this one? All right, we'll suspend the investigation until you get back!
> Nothing.
---

Question: What will you do?
>Discuss the aetheryte.
Delion: An aetheryte? A convenient tool for meeting with their Sharlayan co-conspirators, no doubt.
Delion: Oh, they'll tell you aetherytes were an Allagan invention, but it was really just one of many alien technological secrets received in exchange for their undying loyalty.
Delion: Linkpearls, too. Be careful what you say on those “private” calls—the Sharlayans are always listening.
>Talk.
Delion: I'm taking notes on everything in this base: floor plans, personnel, abstract tree structures. My next issue will expose their entire operation!
> Part ways.
Delion: I understand: being confronted with evidence of the uncanny can be unsettling to say the least. Take the time to adjust your thinking, then rejoin us where we came in.
> Nothing.
---

-optional end

Languid Loporrit: Oh, I often stretch my legs out there under the stars, but can't say I've noticed anything out of the ordinary. Sorry.

Nashu Mhakaracca: Not to worry, we'll try our luck elsewhere. Thank you!

Delion: Furry-faced liars, the lot of them. They're probably hiding an entire fleet of alien attack craft...

-optional start
Languid Loporrit: Did that man call me a furry-faced liar? I must have heard him wrong...
Question: What will you do?
> Discuss the machinery beneath the floor.
Nashu Mhakaracca: Cor, that's a big fan. It must get hot in here.

> Discuss the machinery beneath the floor.
Delion: A propulsion engine...? Of course! This is no mere moon!
Delion: You know the satellite upon which we stand was never a “natural” celestial body, right? It was a grand fabrication of the ancients.
Delion: They were in contact with aliens even back then, but the purpose of their ambitious construction has eluded us...until now. It's obvious that the moon is a colossal starfaring vessel!

Loporrit Promoter: Oh, ever since we built the Excitatron 6000, we get all kinds of people around here! Could you describe your missing friend in a bit more detail?

Nashu Mhakaracca: Well, he's very gentlemanly and dapper...if you look past the almost-certainly tattered state of his clothing.

Loporrit Promoter: Hmmm...though their fashion sense can be a bit eclectic, our visiting adventurers are always dressed impeccably. Not to be rude, but I've a feeling your friend would have stood out in that crowd...

Delion: He's probably strapped to a table somewhere, even as we speak. Enduring unspeakable experiments... <shudder>
Delion: From what I've pieced together so far, the giant alien is the master. And all these smaller “xeno-bunnies” are artificial life-forms, created to serve as minions in his armies.
Delion: Their harmless appearance is part of the strategy. As soon as you let your guard down...''snap''! They take you down like a pack of tiny herbivorous wolves.

Nashu Mhakaracca: Dorian has some interesting theories, doesn't he? Being nibbled to death by a mob of cuddly bunnies doesn't sound like a bad way to go...

-optional start
Loporrit Promoter: Once you find your friend, you should all come back and give the Excitatron a whirl! I guarantee you'll love it 6000!
-optional end

-cutscene start
Weavingway: ...No gentleman in ragged clothes, I'm afraid, but I ''did'' spot an object in flight that I couldn't immediately identify.
Weavingway: It was while I was out gathering materials, in the south of Mare Lamentorum. I presumed it was just some Allagan relic or new species of floating jellyfish, and didn't think too much of it.

Nashu Mhakaracca: Cor, now that sounds promising! Thank you for your time!

Delion: What's this, then? A pod for growing new xeno-bunnies? They must plan to produce them in the millions, and overwhelm us with sheer fuzzy numbers...
Delion: Ah! How could I have been so blind! Those aren't ears...they're psychic wave generators! They lure people close with their precious little faces, and then ''bam''! Brainwashed!
Delion: I've figured it all out, alien scum! And once the world reads my special edition, your dreams of domination will be done for! Hah!

Weavingway: What a strange and oddly aggravating man. Is he a friend of yours, too?

Nashu Mhakaracca: He thinks he's a friend to the people, but I don't think any people are his friends.
Nashu Mhakaracca: Right! Let's get out there and find that flying object! ...Do you know which direction is “south”?

Delion: Wait, I'm coming with you! Don't leave me alone with the brainwashing xeno-bunnies!
-cutscene end

-optional start
Weavingway: I'm not sure how to describe what I saw, but you'll know it when you see it.
-optional end

===Search for the alien craft from the vantage point===
-optional start
Nashu Mhakaracca: So many stars...like a million twinkling teeth in a great big gentlemanly smile. <sigh> We have to find him, [Forename].

Delion: How could you leave me behind!? Surely you know the first rule of alien hunting is “never split the party”?
-optional end

System: Search for the flying object. You may move the camera, as well as zoom in and out. Target a likely suspect and inspect it with {{cutscene interact controls}}.

-cutscene start
Nashu Mhakaracca: Ah! There it is!
Nashu Mhakaracca: ...And there it goes! Come on—we can't let it get away!

Nashu Mhakaracca: We did it, [Forename]—we found the inspector! Case closed!

Delion: Horrendous... Only aliens could subject a man to such a callous—and physically implausible—fate.

Nashu Mhakaracca: Um. Are my eyes playing tricks on me, or do you see a whole field of planted Hildibrands?

Hildibrand@Hildibrand?: Well, well, what a delightful surprise to see you here. Wherever “here” happens to be...

Hildibrand@Hildibrand...?: My, what an impressive specimen of a gentleman you are, good sir.

Hildibrand@Hildibrand?: The same could be said of you, my good man!

Hildibrand@Hildibrand!?: Is this an extemporaneous gentleman's club? If I may be so bold as to join you?

Delion: What in the name of the occult is happening here? Where did they all come from?

Question: What will you say?

> They're phantom Hildibrands created by the refraction of starlight through swamp gas.
> Could be they're Hildibrand clones grown in an alien laboratory's flesh vats.
---

Nashu Mhakaracca: Impostors, you mean? Don't worry—I know just how to find the ''real'' inspector!

''Nashu pulls out a bomb.''

Hildibrand@Hildibrands: Cease and desist, Nashu! Use your powers of deduction, not destruction!

Nashu Mhakaracca: Hmmm. They're all so authentic—and synchronized. I honestly can't tell the difference...

''Nashu puts the bomb aways.''

Hildibrand@Hildibrand?: Well, look no further. For I am the one and only Hildibrand, agent of enquiry and inspector extraordinaire!

Hildibrand@Hildibrand...?: The one and only? I believe that would be me, good sir.

Hildibrand@Hildibrand!?: How odd. I think you will find that ''I'' am the original Hildibrand.

Hildibrand@Hildibrand???: Oh, I am more than certain that ''I'' am Hildibrand!

Hildibrand@Hildibrand...!?: As am I!

Hildibrand@Hildibrand?: Could it be that we are ''all'' Hildibrand!?
Hildibrand@Hildibrand?: How positively marvelous! I propose we celebrate this auspicious moment as only a mob of Manderville men can!

''The Hildibrands perform the Manderville Mambo.''

Delion: What manner of waking nightmare is this?

''A new UFO deposits an alien and another Hildibrand.''

Hildibrand: Apologies for the confusion, my friends. I assure you that this time you stand in the presence of the inimitable Hildibrand Helidor Maximilian Manderville!
Hildibrand: And this diminutive blue chap here is my new associate, Master PuPu.

Delion: Another alien species!
Delion: <gasp> Of course! You're building a clone army to invade our star, and what we stumbled upon was a field test!

Hildibrand: I do not believe we've had the pleasure, my excitable fellow, but I promise you that the amicable Master PuPu has no desire to wage any clone wars.

Delion: Then...what's this all about? Are you telling me you ''weren't'' abducted?

Hildibrand: A simple misunderstanding...

-cutscene start
Hildibrand: Ohohoho, what a charming little rascal you are. An offshoot of the mandragora family, perchance?

PuPu@Little Blue Man: PuPu. PuPuPuPu... PuPuPuPuPuPu...

Hildibrand: Pu...Pu? Ah, I see! Pleased to make your acquaintance, Master PuPu!
Hildibrand: Ahem, might I inquire as to our current whereabouts? I had but recently reunited with Nashu and [Forename], and would greatly appreciate it if you could convey me back to my prior location...

''Hildibrand is once more pulled into the UFO.''
Hildibrand: Splendid! Full speed ahead, my dear fellow!
Hildibrand: Steady on, now! This is not...what I had...in mind!

''The UFO deposits several copies of Hildibrand onto the moon.''

Hildibrand: My word! You've generated a veritable battalion of identical gentlemen!
Hildibrand: Surely the world could never safely contain so much pure Mandervillian magnificence! Could you perchance reverse the process?

''The UFO drops a bomb on the Hildibrand clones.''

Hildibrand: Oh gods, no, not like that...

''The UFO flies off.''
Hildibrand: Mummyyyyyy!
-cutscene end

Hildibrand: ...Thus, I have concluded that Master PuPu has no grasp of the common tongue, and his true intentions—while surely peaceable—remain woefully unclear.
Hildibrand: It was only through frenzied gestures that I managed to direct him back here and have him clean up our Manderville multiplicity incident.

PuPu: PuPu... I hail...PuPuPuPu...from a star...PuPu...a great distance from here.
PuPu: PuPu...I came in search of a friend, whose communications halted mid-exploration.

Hildibrand: All this way to aid a comrade in distress, you say!?
Hildibrand: The devotion. The determination. Your touching story has sunk its hooks into my heart!
Hildibrand: Fear not, my blue-hued friend! For I, Hildibrand, agent of enquiry, inspector extraordinaire, have attached myself to this case like a stubborn barnacle on a kraken's behind!
Hildibrand: I swear to you, here and now: I shall scour all of creation, from the deepest pit of the seven hells to the very pinnacle of the heavens, for the missing comrade that you so desperately seek!
-cutscene end

-optional start
PuPu: I am glad you are here to help ward off any more...PuPu...misunderstandings.

Nashu Mhakaracca: Mister PuPu's eyes make me feel dizzy. Like swirls that go around and around and around and around...

Delion: An entirely new species of alien... The next issue of the ''Truth'' will need to be a special double edition.

-optional end

===Speak with Hildibrand===
Hildibrand: Tell me, [Forename], how is it that you're able to understand Master PuPu's language?
Hildibrand: The power of “echoes”? Ah, you mean persistent repetition? It sounds similar to the Manderville art of parley.

Delion: You're saying you have an extrasensory ability that allows communication with aliens? How fascinating. Yes, most fascinating indeed...

Hildibrand: Pending mysteries aside, I am glad indeed to once more be in the company of my faithful assistant and stalwart contemporary both!
==Journal==
* Hildibrand is back and full of spectral beans.

* Inspector's Log:
:I am myself again! Or am I? While I have come to realize the Forgiven Gentleman was no more than a figment of my imagination, the fact remains that my burly body and saintly soul have been separated from one another. I am trapped in this world of dazzling purple known as the First, unable to reunite with my physical form. But I have not yet begun to investigate─a solution will surely present itself in due course. You may rest assured, my good friends and beloved family, that Hildibrand Helidor Maximilian Manderville will not rest until he has been made whole!
:　　　　　　　　　　　　*　*　*
:Looking none the worse for wear despite taking an exploding projectile to the face, a moderately lucid Hildibrand declares his desire to return home to the Source. Though he appears to only tenuously grasp the process you explain this would entail, he is eager to forge ahead, heedless of any potential risks. Said process will require the assistance of Beq Lugg, who Theyler and Vonard assure you will be most happy to help. Course of action decided, you and your companions begin the trek back to the Crystarium and the Cabinet of Curiosity.

* Hildibrand wastes no time in incurring the esteemed Nu Mou's ire by mistaking them for Moren's pet canine. In spite of this faux pas, Beq Lugg grudgingly agrees to help. Hildibrand's soul proves to be sufficiently resolute, and in short order you find yourself in possession of a spirit vessel bearing his memories and vital essence. After offering thanks and farewells, you prepare for a return journey to the Source.

* Arriving back at Radz-at-Han, you are greeted by a panicking Nashu and a most distressing state of affairs: the sleeping Hildibrand has been kidnapped! With no clues or evidence as to the perpetrator, you and Nashu head out to the streets of Kama to conduct an investigation and locate the inspector before he comes to harm.

* Questioning witnesses in Kama, you learn that while none saw anyone carrying the inspector's body, an individual carrying a massive sack was observed not a short while ago. With any luck, this knowledge will help you and Nashu narrow your search and find out whence─and by whom─Hildibrand has been spirited away.

* In your absence, Nashu has made the acquaintance of one Delion, the editor of an occult periodical, who proffers the far-fetched theory that Inspector Hildibrand has been abducted by aliens. Doing your best to swiftly disabuse her of this notion, you prepare to take to the streets once more in search of the mysterious man with the oversized sack.

* With Nashu at your side, you walk the streets of Kama in hopes of finding anyone who may have seen the sack-bearing suspect.
**※You must be accompanied by Nashu to complete this task. Speak with her again should you become separated.

* You learn the suspicious personage you seek was seen chatting with a merchant in the vicinity of the fountain on Alzadaal's Path. Perhaps a conversation with this man will enlighten you as to the identity of the kidnapper and Hildibrand's current whereabouts.

* In good spirits due to his recent and unexpected windfall, the merchant is happy to inform you that he met with the individual you seek, and in fact sold the man his chocobo after having received a most generous offer. While the merchant knows naught of the mysterious sack's contents, he informs you that it and its bearer are bound for the beaches of Saltwind's Welcome. You and Nashu must make haste, before the inspector comes to harm!

* From the shadows at Saltwind's Welcome, you watch as your quarry removes a comatose Hildibrand from his sack and offers the body to Jubraca─a revelation that is not surprising in the least given the merchant's previous chicanery. Moments later, he is joined by Doctor Lugae, an amalgamation of flesh and metal that you vaguely recall besting in the Tower of Babil. The doctor, who specializes in the creation of artificial lifeforms, seeks the perfect physical specimen for use in his experiments─Hildibrand, apparently.

:You and Nashu rush to your comrade's defense, prompting Lugae to attempt to flee with his prize, but a skillful toss of the spirit vessel serves to awaken the inspector. After an impressive display of agility, Hildibrand somehow finds himself atop Lugae's head, and subsequently triggers one of the doctor's shoulder-mounted missiles to launch. Straddling the projectile, the inspector is propelled beyond the heavens and briefly into the void beyond, before he begins his rapid descent. In a fit of desperation, Hildibrand mashes buttons on the missile itself, redirecting its course at the last instant into the fleeing Lugae's face.

:When the ashes have settled, Lugae's head and Jubraca are taken into custody by the local authorities, while the miraculously not-dead Hildibrand dusts himself off and poses proudly atop the sands. His moment of triumph is short-lived, however, as a curious flying vessel not unlike the ones described by Delion descends from the heavens and entraps him with a beam of light before flying off to gods-know-where...

* As she gazes at the sky, a dejected Nashu laments the inspector's disappearance after an all-too-brief reunion. With the excitement at an end for the time being, you follow her back to Radz-at-Han to offer what emotional support you may.

* Nashu has never been one to remain in poor spirits for long, and so she vows to search high and low for information that will lead her to the abducted Hildibrand. Thanking you for your assistance, she bids you lend your aid once more when─not if─she finds herself with a credible lead.
===Accepting the quest===
-optional start
Theyler: I can't help but feel that this is ''not'' what the Echo was intended for...

Vonard: Explosions, dwarven deckings—is there nothing this man can't withstand?
-optional end

Hildibrand: While I've enjoyed what time I've spent in this far-flung First that I can remember, we should be getting back to our ''own'' world soon. Would you happen to know how we might go about doing that?
Hildibrand: Restore my soul...with a “spirit vessel”?
Hildibrand: Say no more! Your cursory description was more than enough for me to grasp the concept completely. It is not unlike brewing the perfect cup of coffee. Which means our task is clear: we require the services of a skilled soul sommelier!

Question: What will you say?

> We require the services of Beq Lugg.
> I know a soul sommelier named Beq Lugg.
---

Hildibrand: Splendid! I see that even in this world, you rub shoulders with the cream. Let us pay this Beq Lugg a visit.

Theyler: I'm not sure what you're plotting to do with souls, but if you require Beq Lugg's assistance, we can help.

Vonard: Aye, they've aided us time and again, and I reckon they'd do the same for your friend here. Come with us to the Cabinet of Curiosity.

-quest accepted

===Speak with Theyler in the Crystarium===

-optional start

Hildibrand: Though I am eager to return home, I will miss this strange world. Perhaps we can visit it again someday? Surely there are cases here that require my preeminent powers of deduction!

Vonard: Seeing as he's a friend of the Warrior of Darkness {{alternatives|herself|himself}} I should've known, but this Hildibrand is no ordinary man...

-optional end

Theyler: If you're ready, I'll call for Beq Lugg.

Hildibrand: Ah, the genius soul sommelier! You come highly recommended by [Forename]. And what an adorable little puppy you have!

Moren: Soul what? ''Puppy''? I beg your pardon, but there seems to be some confus—

Beq Lugg: Puppy!? Who is this imbecile, [Forename]!?
Beq Lugg: I've half a mind to make him dig a hole so I can throw him in it! Hmph! But...I presume he is a friend of yours, and one in need no less?
Beq Lugg: What!? ''Another'' of your friends that needs to be sent back to the Source?
Beq Lugg: Have you forgotten how complex and difficult it was to do it the last time? Yet you waltz in here and ask me this favor with the air of one shopping for a new hat...
Beq Lugg: His case is no different from the others, at least... He is present only in soul, as they were.
Beq Lugg: We'll need another spirit vessel, of course. You don't happen to have one on you already, do you?
Beq Lugg: Entrusted to you by the Crystal Exarch, you say? Heh. If only he knew how you were using it.
Beq Lugg: Fortunately, I have a porxie on hand. We've been using it to treat patients at risk of transforming into eaters, but I suppose it's due for a change of pace.
Beq Lugg: There is, however, one concern. In case I didn't make it clear before, the process can place great strain upon one's soul. If he is lacking in resilience, there is a chance his will not survive—that his very essence will be rent asunder...

Question: What will you say?

> That's a risk I'm willing to take.
> After what he's lived through, it would be implausibly anticlimactic for him to die like that.
---

Hildibrand: Haha! [Forename] knows me all too well! I assure you, my good sommelier who is most certainly ''not'' a dog—you needn't worry for Hildibrand Helidor Maximilian Manderville!

Beq Lugg: ...Yes. I get the distinct impression that the gods themselves could not kill him if they tried. And they have.
Beq Lugg: Come along, then, Hildi-I-can't-be-bothered-to-remember-that-name.

Hildibrand: A thousand thanks! Simply point me to the soul siphon, and I shall hop right in!

Beq Lugg: The rest of you can wait here. I promise I won't hurt him...no matter how much I might be tempted.
Beq Lugg: You will be pleased to know that the process was smooth and uneventful. Honestly, I was hoping for more of a challenge...
Beq Lugg: All you need do is to take his spirit vessel back to the Source and bring it in contact with his corporeal body. He should awaken immediately with his soul and memories intact.

Theyler: If there's nothing else, Vonard and I should be getting back to our duties.
Theyler: It was a pleasure, [Forename]—if all too brief. I won't pretend I understood even a fraction of what happened, but I'm glad I was there for it.

Vonard: Till we meet again! Rest assured that Theyler and I will be doing our damndest to look after the people here in your absence.

===Deliver the gentlemanly spirit vessel to Nashu in Radz-at-Han===

-optional start
Parigha: I swear, we only left him alone for a moment! It's not possible!
-optional end

Nashu Mhakaracca: You're back—and not a moment too soon! We have an emergency on our hands!

''The player hands over the {{i|Gentlemanly Spirit Vessel}}.''

Nashu Mhakaracca: The inspector's soul is in this, you say? That's great, but we have another problem now—the inspector's ''body'' has gone missing!
Nashu Mhakaracca: We went to the markets to do some shopping, and when we came back, he was nowhere to be seen!

Parigha: I double-checked that every door was locked before we left! But there's nothing to suggest someone forced their way in...

Nashu Mhakaracca: We've got a case on our hands: the case of the evaporating inspector! We must begin our investigation at once!
Nashu Mhakaracca: Come on, let's start looking for witnesses!

===Gather information in Kama===
Davaaz: Did I see anyone get carried out of that house, you ask?
Davaaz: I was too distracted with stocktaking to make note of any comings or goings. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Mehbaht: I didn't see anyone carry a person out of that house, no...
Mehbaht: ...But I ''did'' see a man carrying a particularly large sack—so heavy he strained to lift it. I didn't think much of it at the time, but now that you mention it, it was a bit suspicious.
-optional start
Parigha: Was anything else stolen? Oh, this is so distressing...

Nashu Mhakaracca: Tell me ''everything'' you know! The inspector's life is in jeopardy!

Delion@Dubious Individual: Yes, this is a most distressing situation, indeed...

Davaaz: As I said, matters of inventory have commanded my full attention of late. Perhaps someone else will be of more help to you?

Mehbaht: I suppose the sack was large enough that it could have conceivably contained a full-grown person. It looked terribly heavy...

-optional end

===Speak with Nashu===
-cutscene start
Nashu Mhakaracca: Ah, there you are! This man says he has vital information that will help us in our investigation!

Delion: A pleasure to make your acquaintance. I am Delion, editor in chief of ''The Thavnairian Truth'', a monthly publication devoted to exploring unexplained and otherworldly phenomena of our isle.
Delion: Your companion shared with me the news of your friend's disappearance, and I happen to know precisely who is behind the incident. But I fear you may not like the answer, for the kidnapper...is not of this star.
Delion: They come from the heavens—from beyond the great expanse. They descend in curious, saucer-shaped airships to ''study'' our world... Our society, our buildings, our very ''bodies''...
Delion: ...You shudder, no doubt, as you realize of whom I speak. “It couldn't be,” you protest! Oh, but it could...and it ''is''. Your dear friend the inspector...has been abducted by ''aliens''!
Delion: "Oh, but he'll be fine,“ you assure yourself! ”After all, they just want to understand us better!“ You poor, deluded child. That they do, but to what end? Why else? That they might one day ''take over our world''!
Delion: What is worse, they plot to do so with the aid of ''collaborators''! For the Sharlayans are in league with our would-be overlords, providing the aliens with vital information on our vulnerabilities in exchange for a position of power within their regime.
Delion: The “Final Days” was also the work of these alien invaders—an attempt to sow chaos, that our world would be easier to conquer. Blessedly, it was thwarted—if only by dumb luck, as those that did the thwarting were blissfully unaware of the true nature of the threat.
Delion: I had hoped the setback would discourage the aliens from coming back, if not move them to abandon their ambitions. But it would seem events have only emboldened them, if they are indeed carrying out abductions here in Radz–at–Han!
Delion: Even as we speak, your friend lays prone on a sterile bed in their base on the surface of the moon, where they poke and probe him with inscrutable instruments as their floppy ears wiggle with fiendish delight! Ah, but I have said too much! I must continue my investigation in secret. The fate of our world is at stake!

Nashu Mhakaracca: Oh no! That sounded awful! We have to go to the moon and save the inspector at once!

Question: What will you say?

> I think he was a few materia short of a full meld.
> At least he got the floppy ears part right...
---

Nashu Mhakaracca: Hmm? So you ''don't'' think the inspector is somewhere getting probed by aliens? But if not them, then who's probing him?
Nashu Mhakaracca: A man carrying a suspiciously large sack? That sounds promising! Maybe someone else can tell us more.

-cutscene end
===Speak with Nashu and have her accompany you.===

Dharitri: I do so enjoy people watching, and there is no place more suited to the pastime than this bridge...

Traveling Merchant: Hahaha! Talk about an unexpected windfall...

-optional end

> If the player asks Nashu to accompany him for the first time
Nashu Mhakaracca: Someone up ahead may have seen something. Let's ask around!
> If the player has parted ways with Nashu before
Nashu Mhakaracca: Finished? Wonderful! Let's get back to our case. Where were we again...?
---
-optional start
Question: What will you say?
>Discuss the Arkasodara.
Nashu Mhakaracca: Parigha and his family are the nicest people! They've got such gentle eyes and long snouts, too─longer than anyone I've ever met in Eorzea.
>Speak with Nashu.
Nashu Mhakaracca: If anyone can lead us to Inspector Hildibrand, it'll be that man with the large sack. I know it!
>Part ways with Nashu.
Nashu Mhakaracca: Don't tell me you've got another case? Well, if duty calls. I'll wait for you back in Kama. But come back soon─the inspector's counting on us!
---

-optional end

Dharitri: The man with the sack? Indeed, I couldn't help but take note of him as he passed, trying so very hard to be inconspicuous as he was.
Dharitri: He descended to Alzadaal's Path, then went over to the fountain, where he met with a merchant I believe. Such a hefty sack it was—my mind was racing with the possibilities of what it might contain.

Nashu Mhakaracca: That had to be our man, right? We need to hunt down that merchant!

-optional start

Question: What will you do?
> Discuss the fountain.
Nashu Mhakaracca: It's incredible, isn't it? It reminds me of the giant statue of Lord Godbert at the Gold Saucer! Once the inspector's back on his feet, we'll have to show him!
> Nothing.
---
-optional end

-cutscene start
Traveling Merchant: A man with a large sack? Hah! You bet I saw him. In fact, I sold him my chocobo!
Traveling Merchant: At first, I told him to get lost. That bird and I go way back, and so forth. But he was in a hurry, and his offer was ''very'' generous.
Traveling Merchant: When you're in my line of work, you can't afford to get too sentimental. And now I can buy a whole stable's worth of chocobos!

Nashu Mhakaracca: Did he say where he was planning to go next?

Traveling Merchant: He was muttering something about having to get to Saltwind's Welcome in a hurry. Probably why he was desperate for a chocobo. It's a long way to go on foot, never mind the sack.

Nashu Mhakaracca: Did you hear that, [Forename]!? We need to head to Saltwind's Welcome right away!
-cutscene end
-optional start
Traveling Merchant: If you want to catch your man, you should look for him at Saltwind's Welcome. I can't imagine that he's moved on that quickly...unless he rode my bird to death. He did seem to be in a rush, but surely he would not have done such a terrible thing...
-optional end

===Speak with Nashu in Saltwind's Welcome===
-cutscene start
Nashu Mhakaracca: Here we are! Which means the mysterious man with the mysterious sack must be near! Keep your eyes peeled...
Nashu Mhakaracca: Over there! That man is definitely up to no good!
Nashu Mhakaracca: Maybe he's waiting for a co-conspirator? We should stay out of sight and watch what happens...
''Jubraca joins the mysterious man''
Nashu Mhakaracca: ...Ah! Mister Chupacabra? But he expressly told us he had put the evil schemes behind him! He wouldn't ''lie'', would he...?

Jubraca: The goods appear to be none the worse for wear... Very well. Your payment, as promised.
Jubraca: My client will be most pleased...

Nashu Mhakaracca: Oh no! Is he going to feed the inspector to that giant sea monster!?

Jubraca: It is an honor and a pleasure as always, Doctor Lugae. I have faith this ''specimen'' will meet with your satisfaction.

Lugae: So ''this'' is the one said to be the strongest, most resilient in all the world? The Manderville man?

Jubraca: None other. He has weathered countless explosions and a multitude of martial abuses—including a devastating suplex I myself did witness. It is even said he survived a journey to Dalamud itself, and survived the lesser moon's fall with nary a scratch.
Jubraca: Most fortunately for us, he has fallen into a coma from which I am assured he will never awake. You are free to do with his body as you please.

Lugae: Wee hee hee! Even the mightiest of warriors can't fight while asleep!
Lugae: Those meddlers may have gotten the better of me and my beautiful boy in the Tower of Babil, but my next child will be all but invincible! With ''this'' body mine to command, I will exact a bloody, glorious revenge!

Jubraca: ...Ahem. Forgive me my boldness, Doctor Lugae, but when might I expect the rest of my payment? I have debts that must be repaid.

Lugae: Worry not! With the Telophoroi gone for good, the vast fortune of House Brutus is entirely at my disposal. I shall shower you with wealth, my loyal minion!

Jubraca: And gladly shall I accept the spoils, Doctor, and resolve never to renounce my wicked ways, for surely ''this'' time I will suffer no comeuppance!

''Nashu and the player approach.''

Lugae: No, not you! Not now! Bah—I must away!

Jubraca: W-Wait! Doctor Lugae! M-My payment!

Nashu Mhakaracca: Wake up, Inspector!

Hildibrand: Could...could it be? The world's no longer purple!

Lugae: Stop moving, damn you! You're supposed to be the comatose centerpiece of my glorious revenge!

Hildibrand: Mummy!
Hildibrand: Not agaaaaaain!

Lugae: Noooooooooooooooooo!

Hildibrand: I say, that was a rather dramatic series of events to awaken to...but more importantly, after a brief detour, I find myself in my own world once more.
Hildibrand: My most sincere apologies for causing you such trouble, my loyal assistants. But rejoice, for Hildibrand, agent of enquiry, inspector extraordinaire, has made his triumphant return!

''Hildibrand is abducted by an UFO.''

Nashu Mhakaracca: W-Wait! Inspector!

Delion: I knew it! An alien abduction! And to think I would have the chance to witness one with my own eyes!
Delion: This month's issue of ''The Thavnairian Truth'' shall be the best one yet!

Nashu Mhakaracca: And just when I thought we finally had the inspector back, off he went...and then came back, and then floated off again...
-cutscene end

Nashu Mhakaracca: I know it's not the first time that he's taken to the skies without warning, but still...it's always a little disappointing.
Nashu Mhakaracca: Still, there's no use crying over flying inspectors. Let's return to Radz–at–Han.

===Speak with Nashu in Radz-at-Han===
Nashu Mhakaracca: Oh, Inspector. Why have you left me again...and where have you gone?
Nashu Mhakaracca: No, this won't do! Get it together, Nashu—there's a case to be solved!
Nashu Mhakaracca: Just you wait, Inspector! Your loyal assistant Nashu will solve the mystery of your disappearance. Again!
Nashu Mhakaracca: And don't you worry, [Forename]! As soon as I have a new lead, you'll be the first to know. Till next time!
*Speak with [[Theyler]].
*Speak with Theyler again.

==Journal==
* The pungent Lalafell can scarcely conceal his excitement.

* Strolling through the streets of Radz-at-Han, you encounter a strangely familiar Lalafell. He proudly identifies himself as the selfsame youth you met once upon a time in Kugane...who happens to have an unhealthy obsession with Nashu Mhakaracca. It seems the apple of his eye has once again found herself in a pickle, and is greatly distressed by the condition of one Hildibrand─agent of enquiry, inspector extraordinaire. Curious as to what fate has befallen the redoubtable gentleman─you make for the High Crucible to learn more.

* Following events in the Far East in which Nashu and Hildibrand were sucked into a foreboding portal─along with Gilgamesh, notorious weapon thief, and Jubraca, an unscrupulous Hannish merchant─your associates found themselves wandering the “Interspectorial Rift” for a time. Eventually, with the aid of a recovered Gilgamesh, the other three managed to return to the Source. However, while Nashu was none the worse for wear, Hildibrand emerged in a comatose state for reasons yet unknown. The inspector's plucky assistant has attempted to fashion medicines to revive him, but to no avail. Hoping you might have some insight into his condition, she invites you to join her in Kama at the residence where the inspector is convalescing.

* Examining the unconscious body of Hildibrand, you conclude that, like the Scions before him, his soul has been summoned to another world─likely the First. Nashu, understandably, is not quite able to grasp the situation, but she is nevertheless heartened that you might be able to bring him back. Entrusting you with her homemade explosives should you have need of them, she bids you a safe journey, and you prepare to depart for the Crystarium. With luck, you will track down the gentleman inspector's wandering spirit.

* You pay a visit to the Wandering Stairs, where Glynard informs you that one of the veteran bounty hunters mentioned a suspicious individual wont to strike unseemly poses. After listening to the account of said bounty hunter, the dwarf Giott, you are all but convinced that the man in question is none other than Inspector Hildibrand. You are subsequently approached by the former guardsmen Theyler and Vonard, who coincidentally enough are also on the trail of the infamous poser. United by a common goal, you and your comrades depart for Sullen, where the man was last spotted.

* While the various witnesses in Sullen offer conflicting reports, the picture they paint of the mystery man is one which suggests that, despite his ghastly appearance and disturbing poses, he is a gentlemanly soul at heart. With no doubt remaining that you are on the inspector's trail, you go to share your findings with Theyler and Vonard.

* Theyler and Vonard are pleased to hear of your success, and somewhat relieved that the poser has proved relatively benign thus far. The three of you resolve to scour the Forest of the Lost Shepherd, where the eyewitnesses claim to have encountered your quarry.

* Sure enough, you soon come upon a Hildibrand seemingly bereft of his memories and looking a bit pale in the face. Fortunately, a judicious application of Nashu's Delight is enough to make the inspector remember who he is. In that instant, you and your companions are granted a vision by the Echo, which reveals in ludicrous detail how a chance encounter with Giott led Hildibrand to believe he was a Lightwarden extraordinaire. In any event, having been disabused of such notions, Hildibrand strikes his trademark pose and announces his triumphant return to his adoring fans.
{{Dialogue|<nowiki>
=== Accepting the quest===
Excitable Youth: Wait, I know you! We met in Kugane! You're that stone-cold killer I asked to look after the love of my life!
Excitable Youth: What's that look for? Surely you haven't forgotten me. You and me, we had a moment─a connection! Not like the one I've got with her, of course, but I ''know'' I left an impression!

Question: What will you say?
> ...The creepy little bastard who smells like cheese and followed Nashu to Kugane after stalking her for over five years?
Excitable Youth: Hey! There's nothing ''creepy'' about my love! It's as pure as the pristine waters of a forest stream! <sniff> <sniff> ...Fair point about the cheese stink, though.

> Frankly, considering how many blows to the head I've taken, I'm lucky I haven't forgotten my own name.
Excitable Youth: Head trauma notwithstanding, I'm still offended! At the very least, surely my love for my sultry muse—my innocent and pure and not-at-all creepy adoration for the totality of her existence—is the kind of thing that would stick in your memory!

---
Excitable Youth: But enough about ''me''─this is about Miss Nashu!
Excitable Youth: Ever since she got sucked into that weird portal back east, I've been scouring the world for any sign of her. I was this close to giving up, but then, huzzah! I found her here in Radz-at-Han!

Excitable Youth: Normally I'd be happy to get back to playing the silent invisible guardian, but she seems pretty distressed by the plight of her inspector friend. He's here too, but laid up and showing no signs of waking any time soon. My Nashu has been fashioning all sorts of medicines in hopes of rousing him, but to no avail.

Excitable Youth: I mean, I couldn't care less if he kicked the bucket, but I hate seeing her like this. She's liable to work herself to death!

Excitable Youth: So, what say you? Will you deliver my dearest Nashu from her plight? You'll find her over at the High Crucible, no doubt slaving over an alembic.

Excitable Youth: And with that, I'll get back to cheering her on from the shadows! You too, I guess. Now go, quickly! Save my beloved!

-quest accepted

===Speak with Nashu Mhakaracca===

Nashu Mhakaracca: And that should do it! Now to take this medicine and...

-cutscene start

Nashu Mhakaracca: Cor! [Forename]! It feels like it's been forever! Though ''definitely'' less than a year, I'm sure.

Nashu Mhakaracca: What brings you to Radz-at-Han? Enjoying a spot of adventuring, or perhaps...

Nashu Mhakaracca: Then you've heard! It's true. Inspector Hildibrand's gone into hibernation again, and─ Ah, wait. You're giving me that look. The one that screams, “What about the whole weird portal business?” All right, since you silently asked...

Nashu Mhakaracca: So, back on the Ruby Sea─remember how Greg got doused with dewprism and was forced to whisk us all “far away”?

Nashu Mhakaracca: ...How that strange rift then opened up─which the inspector then got sucked up into─and how I followed him in after that?

Nashu Mhakaracca: Well, after that, we all ended up in this bizarre place. Couldn't tell up from down, left from right. And so we wandered, lost and confused...

Nashu Mhakaracca: Fortunately, Greg came to his senses and explained that we were in the “Interspectorial Rift,” and then used the same trick to bring us home!

Nashu Mhakaracca: Greg himself stayed behind, though. Something about a score that he had to settle. Not sure what that was about, but hey, you know Greg...

Nashu Mhakaracca: Anyway, we're back now, but the rub is that Inspector Hildibrand hasn't opened his eyes once!

Nashu Mhakaracca: I know he needs his beauty sleep, but it's been an awfully long time, and we've got cases to solve!

Nashu Mhakaracca: I've been trying my hand at apothecary stuff, seeing if I can't make something that'll get him up and moving, but nothing seems to work!

Nashu Mhakaracca: But I think we're making progress. Me and Mister Chupacabra from the Shakshouka Concern, that is. You remember Mister Chupacabra, right? Got sucked into the rift along with us, former evil mastermind─not so bad once you get to know him.

Jubraca: Pleased I am to meet you once more, and under less compromising circumstances. If I may correct our mutual friend─I am Jubraca, chairman of the Sahjattra Concern.

''The WoL turns and glares at him with a furrowed brow.''

Jubraca: Y-Your distrustful and somewhat bloodthirsty glare is not unwarranted, but in my defense, who among us has not contemplated enslaving the rich and powerful to bend the world to their whim...? Hah hah...hah... Ahem.

Jubraca: I pray you forgive me my poor joke, and allow me to assure you that after wandering the interdimensional rift for the-Sisters-only-know-how long, I am a changed man!

Jubraca: Naturally, I understand that words alone would not suffice to absolve me of my sins. Thus, since my return, I have operated a humble apothecary that caters to the needs of one and all.

Jubraca: Furthermore, I made arrangements for Miss Nashu's workshop. Rest assured that I will spare no effort in helping her see Inspector Hildibrand awakened and returned to full health.

Jubraca: And with that, if you would excuse me, I must see to other business...

''Jubraca turns away and smiles sinisterly to himself before leaving.''

Nashu Mhakaracca: Isn't he the nicest ex-villain you've ever met? Ah, but that's right─I had just finished my latest medicine! I've got high hopes for this new recipe.

Question: What will you say?
> I suppose I ought to get a look at the Manderville man himself.
Nashu Mhakaracca: By all means! The inspector is resting in a room up in Kama. Awake or asleep, I'm sure he'd enjoy your company. Let's go!

> Medicine might not do us any good...
Nashu Mhakaracca: Well, you've seen all kinds of aamazin things in your travels, so maybe you'll be able to tell what's wrong with the inspector if you get a look at him yourself.
Nashu Mhakaracca: He's resting in room up in Kama. Let's go!
---
-cutscene end
===Speak with Nashu Mhakaracca again===

-optional start

Parigha: The girl's a friend of yours, is she? She's welcome to stay as long as she likes. I do hope her friend recovers soon, though. Sleeping on the floor hasn't been good for my back...

-optional end

Nashu Mhakaracca: Isn't this room nice? Mister Chupacabra's taken care of everything─even paid the rent in full! Ah, but I'm distracting you, aren't I? You need to concentrate while you examine the inspector, yes?

System: Study the sleeping Inspector Hildibrand. You may move the camera, as well as zoom in and out. Target a section and examine it in more detail with {{mouse button|left}}.

System: Parigha, the master of the house, searches the shelves with a remarkable dexterity for one so large of body and limb.

System: Beside the bed, Hildibrand's loyal assistant Nashu dozes peacefully. Her ability to stay calm in the most trying of times has been sorely tested of late...

System: Rugged features belie what is, at closer glance, the sensitive mien of a cultured gentleman.

System: While he still breathes, he appears to be locked in a deep slumber...

System: Rippling muscles bespeak impressive strength, while smooth skin suggests that only on the rarest of occasions does the man resort to violence.

System: Troublingly, his limbs are stiff and cool to the touch, as if the blood runs cold in his veins...

System: The exquisite buckles of the stylish footwear are a design unique to House Manderville. These shoes would almost certainly fetch a small fortune in the markets.

System: The inspector's condition is disturbingly reminiscent of the Scions' who were summoned to the First for a time...

-cutscene start

Nashu Mhakaracca: Hmm...? Oh! Finished already?

Nashu Mhakaracca: Any theories as to what's wrong with the inspector?

Question: What will you say?
> Well, he's a soulless husk, which is less than ideal.

> I suspect he may have been ''summoned'' to another reflection.
---

Nashu Mhakaracca: I see... I mean, I ''don't'', but that's what you're supposed to say at times like this, I know that much. How do we wake him up?

Nashu Mhakaracca: Return his soul to his body? But where did it go, and what is it doing there?

Question: What will you say?
> Probably went to the First to become the Gentleman of Darkness, as you do.

> I think it's gone to a world wholly unlike ours...but still slightly like ours. A world of contrasts.
---

Nashu Mhakaracca: I ''see''... Right. So can you go...there?

Nashu Mhakaracca: Great! In that case, I'll leave the soul searching to you!

Nashu Mhakaracca: I'm sure it goes without saying, but once you've arrived in this otherworldly world, look for a place that smells of mystery and intrigue, and chat with people there. That's standard agent of enquiry protocol!

Nashu Mhakaracca: Oh, and since this is Inspector Hildibrand we're talking about...don't be surprised if you find him asleep, or having forgotten a thing or two.

Nashu Mhakaracca: But not to worry! I've prepared my traditional “medicine” just in case. Don't hesitate to use it! And with that, do take care out there!
-cutscene end
-optional start
Nashu Mhakaracca: When in doubt, use Nashu's Delights to blow the cobwebs right out! The inspector will thank you after, I'm sure.

Parigha: The girl's a friend of yours, is she? She's welcome to stay as long as she likes. I do hope her friend recovers soon, though. Sleeping on the floor hasn't been good for my back...
-optional end

===Speak with Glynard at the Crystarium===

Glynard: Welcome back, friend. I'd offer you a pint, but my barman's sense tells me that's not why you're here...

-cutscene start

Glynard: So this friend of yours has gone missing? Sorry to hear that, but plenty of travelers pass through these parts. Could you describe the fellow to me?

Question: What will you say?
>Hume, burly, wears a monocle, well-meaning idiot.
>He was wearing a tattered suit, most like.
---

Glynard: Hmmm...yes, that sounds familiar. Mind you, I didn't see him myself─but I do believe one of our bounty hunters spied such a man when you were all battling that horde of spectral warriors.

Glynard: Giott! Come here a moment. There's someone who wants to speak with you!

Giott: <gulp> That so? Make it─<hic>─quick. Thish ale ishn't going to drink itshelf...
Giott: Who're─ Wait. You're one of the Exarch's friends─the Warrior of Darkness! Fought by your side when the glowing bastards came to ruin our day─but we showed them, hah! But enough reminiscing─what's so important that you had to interrupt my regularly scheduled drinking?
Giott: Now that you mention it, I did see someone like that. Back there on the battlefield, after you ran off to do more hero work.
Giott: At first, I thought he was going to attack me like the rest of the spirit wotsits. But no, he just stood there, striking a pose, trying to scare or seduce me. Damned if I could tell.
Giott: Still, he was glowing, and I wasn't about to take any chances, so I said, “Hey! Piss off, ghost!” and sent him packing.
Giott: "Did he die,“ you ask? To which I say, ”What am I, a chirurgeon?“ Also, ”I've kept my mug waiting long enough.“ Good talk.

???: Could it be!? The Warrior of Darkness!

Theyler: I thought that was your voice, but was convinced my ears were playing tricks on me. It's good to see you again.

Vonard: Didn't mean to eavesdrop, but we overheard you discussing the renegade poser. We've been searching for him for some time now.

Theyler: There have been sightings in Lakeland, you see. Vonard and I have been tasked with getting to the bottom of it.
Theyler: We've little in the way of useful information, though. All we know is that he appears without warning and strikes a disturbing pose.

Vonard: He's not caused any harm─if you discount the shock of a strange man gesticulating in your general direction, that is. Nevertheless, we're worried his behavior might escalate. Have you been tasked with apprehending the miscreant as well?

Glynard: Not quite, Vonard. Cassius's come back to track down a missing friend.

Question: What will you say?
>Your ”miscreant“, I regret to say, might be my friend...
>I wouldn't call him a ”friend“ per se, but I too happen to be looking for a man prone to posing.
---

Glynard: Hmm. If the man you're looking for might be one and the same, then why not work together? Between the three of you, you're bound to have better luck.

Theyler: It would be an honor─and a great help! We were just about to leave to gather testimony, as it happens.

Vonard: Come and join us in Sullen when you've finished here. We'll solve this mystery in no time!

-cutscene end

-optional start
Glynard: You always kept interesting company, that's for sure. I don't know if it would be better or worse if this “poser” is your friend, but I wish you the best of luck.
-optional end

===Question the locals in Sullen===

Sullen Elder: Oh, that fellow? Aye, I saw 'im the other day on the way home from Clearmelt. I'd enjoyed one too many libations after my bath, and ended up wanderin' off into the forest.
Sullen Elder: Before I knew it, the sun was dippin' low, and the sky turnin' dark, and I was beginnin' to wonder if I'd ever make it home. Then I felt a gentle tug at my arm.
Sullen Elder: And would you believe it? This odd-lookin' man led me out of the forest and set me back on the road! I thanked him profusely, but he said nothin' in reply, just struck this pose and walked off.

Sullen Villager: Did I see him? You bet I did. I was crossing through the Forest of the Lost Shepherd, on my way to deliver fish to the Ostall Imperative...
Sullen Villager: Out of nowhere, this odd man leapt in front of me! I thought he was a bandit at first, but then he abruptly turned to the side, curled his neck, and put his fist to his head as if to say...I don't know. It was baffling. I ran when I realized he wasn't going to do anything else.

Sullen Woman: ...Why, yes─I saw someone like that when I was out picking mushrooms in the forest. He even spoke to me!
Sullen Woman: I was repulsed at first by his form, but he only wanted to warn me that fell beasts lurk in the forest, and that I should be wary.
Sullen Woman: Contrary to appearances, I'd say he was actually quite...gentlemanly.

===Speak with Theyler===
Theyler: Finished questioning the locals, have you? Were you able to learn anything?
Theyler: ...Not only has the poser caused no harm, he's even ''helped'' people?
Vonard: So he's a gentleman, albeit a suspicious one. Something of a contradiction you might say, but there's no reason to doubt what we heard.
Theyler: Everyone seemed to encounter him in the Forest of the Lost Shepherd, right? Then that's where we'll look next. Shall we?

===Speak with Theyler again.===
-cutscene start
Theyler: Well, here we are. But how exactly are we supposed to begin our search? These woods are, well...woods.

Vonard: Got a plan, do you? Far be it from me to doubt the Warrior of Darkness. Show us what you've got in mind, and we'll back you up to the best of our ability.

Question: What will you do?
>Perform the Manderville.
>Perform the Manderville Mambo.
---

Popup: Lightwarden—The Forgiven Gentleman

Theyler: On your guard! It's a sin eater!

Vonard: No, wait! That's no sin eater!

Question: What will you say?
>It's Hildibrand!
Hildibrand@Forgiven Gentleman: Hildibrand? Who is this Hildiebrand of whom you speak? I am the Forgiven Gentleman, devourer of sins! Lightwarden estraordinaire!
>It's the Gentleman of Light!
Hildibrand@Forgiven Gentleman: Gentleman of Light? Who is this Gentleman of Light of whom you speak? I am the Forgiven Gentleman, devourer of sins! Lightwarden extraordinaire!
---

Question: What will you say?
>You're not a sin eater - you're Hildibrand, the gentleman inspector!
>You might occasionally moonlight as a zombie overlord, but trust me, you're a gentleman inspector!
---

Hildibrand@Forgiven Gentleman: Urrrgggh... Hurrrggghhh...! Inspector... Sin eater... Inspector... Sin eater...

Theyler: You're acquainted with this, er...gentleman?

Theyler: ...Right, then. Clearly, your friend has been through a lot. But still, how did he get it in his head he's a sin eater?

Vonard: Is there no way to bring back his memories?

''The player takes out a bomb.''

Vonard: Explosives? We're still trying to ''save'' him, right?

''The player throws the bomb at Hildibrand.''

Theyler: Wicked white, we've killed him!

Hildibrand: I say, [Forename]! I had resigned myself to Nashu's ungentle methodology, but you too, my brutish friend!?
Hildibrand: But never mind that. I do not recall the world being quite so purple...
Hildibrand: Previously, I was with Nashu and Greg, wandering the bizarre, shadowy realm known as the “Interspectorial Rift”...

-cutscene end

-cutscene start
''Hildibrand appears in Lakeland during the Final Days.''

Hildibrand: Hmm? Where am I...? ''Who'' am I?

Giott: That sickening light. That aggressive posturing. I know what you are. You're one of ''them'', ain't you?
Giott: What you need is a good old-fashioned dwarven decking!
Giott: Piss off, ghost!

''Giott attacks Hildibrand, who ends up stuck face first in a mountainside. A sin eater lands on his legs. Hildibrand wiggles out of the mountainside and falls to the ground. The sin eater flys off.''

Perturbed Merchant: R-Run for your lives! It's a sin eater!

Hildibrand: A sin...eater?

-cutscene end

-cutscene start

Vonard: I'll be damned. I saw a vision of the man's past. No wonder he became convinced he was a sin eater.

Theyler: I saw it too. It was, quite possibly, the most ridiculous memory I've ever glimpsed...

Hildibrand: Answer me, my faithful assistant! Where are we─and why is it so ''purple''!?

Hildibrand: ...The “First”? The first what? Are you telling me we've somehow traveled to an entirely different ''world''?

Hildibrand: Good gods! To think that I have transcended the very boundaries of time and space! But worry not, my adoring fans! Hildibrand─agent of enquiry, inspector extraordinaire─will return to you forthwith!

-quest complete

Theyler: I can't help but feel that this is not what the Echo was intended for...

Vonard: Explosions, dwarven deckings─is there nothing this man can't withstand?

*Speak with [[Theyler]].
*Speak with Theyler again.

==Journal==

=== Accepting the quest===

===Speak with Nashu Mhakaracca===

===Speak with Nashu Mhakaracca again===

===Question the locals in Sullen===

===Speak with Theyler===
Shall we?

===Speak with Theyler again.===

-cutscene end

-optional start

Theyler: I can't help but feel that this is not what the Echo was intended for...

Vonard: Explosions, dwarven deckings─is there nothing this man can't withstand?

-optional end
</nowiki>}}
