==Journal==
*Professor Erik eyes you with a look of self-satisfaction.

*Greeting you with his customary condescension, Professor Erik informs you that Widargelt is troubled by some matter or other. The professor has been unable to prize the details out of the tight-lipped monk, but he believes that you will fare better. Make your way to Revenant's Toll, where Widargelt is based, and make yourself available to your brother-in-arms.

*As the professor predicts, Widargelt readily reveals to you his woes. The Ala Mhigan Resistance has invited him to rejoin the cause, and though he is resolved to turn down the offer, the event has set him to thinking about his purpose─what he can do in aid of his beleaguered homeland. O'tchakha and D'zentsa ask that you keep an eye on their master as he goes to meet with the Resistance representative in Little Ala Mhigo.

*You arrive in time to witness Widargelt giving Gundobald his answer. Though the old soldier expresses his understanding, saying that fighting is not the only way to serve one's nation, his words leave Widargelt wondering about his own path. Wishing to be alone, he takes his leave and heads for an unknown location. Find him and offer him your support.

*You find Widargelt in contemplation before the mark of the Destroyer. As he relates to you how the Fist of Rhalgr, once the foremost faith among Ala Mhigans, has all but died out in his homeland, the monk finally realizes what he must do. He bids you return with him to Revenant's Toll, where he will share his plans with everyone.

*Before his gathered friends and pupils, Widargelt reveals that he means to go to Gyr Abania on a mission to revive the Fist of Rhalgr. O'tchakha, D'zentsa, and the professor offer to accompany him, and naturally so do you. Overwhelmed by the support, Widargelt expresses his gratitude and determination, and bids you see to your preparations.
{{Dialogue|<nowiki>
===Accepting the quest===
Erik: Ah, [Forename]! Dim though you are, I would swear you possess an innate ability to sense when you are needed. And on that note, I have a task for you.
Erik: Your fellow brute Widargelt—some matter or other weighs heavily on his mind of late. Knowing him, it can only pertain to Ala Mhigo, but the stubborn oaf is determined to keep it pent-up inside. Loath to trouble me with it or some such nonsense, I shouldn't doubt.
Erik: But you, my friend—you are as a {{alternatives|sister|brother}} to him. If there is a {{alternatives|woman|man}} alive in whom he would be willing to confide, it is you. For the hopeless idiot's sake, I bid you go to Revenant's Toll and place yourself at his disposal.

===Speaking with Widargelt in Revenant's Toll===
Widargelt: Good. That will be all for today. You have done well. I am pleased with your progress.

D'zentsa: You always say that, Master. But we're nowhere near where we want to be. Not even close.

O'tchakha: Indeed. And besides, any progress we make, we owe wholly to you.

D'zentsa: Damn right. Without your guidance, we'd be goin' nowhere fast.

Widargelt: My guidance...
Widargelt: [Forename], I am glad to see you. Things are well here, as you can see. But...hmmm...
Widargelt: D'zentsa, O'tchakha, you may go ahead. I would speak with [Forename].
Widargelt: Those two grow stronger every day. Shadows darken their way no more. Their purpose is clear.
Widargelt: Would that I could say the same of mine...
Widargelt: You see, I have received an offer. The Resistance. They ask that I rejoin them. Lead one of their units.
Widargelt: Once, I would have jumped at the chance. But no more. No longer do I live for revenge. You and the professor showed me it is not the way.
Widargelt: So I will turn down the offer. I would focus not on fighting, but rebuilding. But what is within my power? Beyond the battlefield, how can I serve my homeland?
Widargelt: Forgive me. I should not trouble you with this. It is my answer to find.
Widargelt: But first, I will give the Resistance their answer. My thanks for listening, [Forename].

O'tchakha: He still agonizes over it...

D'zentsa: Aye, hardly the state of mind to be in for such an important meeting. Isn't there anything we can do?

O'tchakha: Not us two—his pride will not allow it. But you, [Forename]—he opened up to you just now, did he not? I daresay he will do so again. We're terribly sorry to impose, but could you please follow Master Widargelt? Watch over him in our stead?

Question: Will you watch over Widargelt?

> For you, O'tchakha? Of course.
O'tchakha: Hehe! We are in your debt, [Forename]!

> For you, D'zentsa? Of course.
D'zentsa: Wait, what? Who, me?
D'zentsa: Um, [Forename]? Do you, er...reckon you could look in on Master Widargelt for us?
---

O'tchakha: He is bound for Little Ala Mhigo, I believe.

===Speaking with Widargelt in Little Ala Mhigo===
Widargelt: You would bear witness to my resolve? Very well, {{alternatives|sister|brother}}. Witness me.

Gundobald: Have you made up your mind, then?

Widargelt: I have. Your offer does me great honor. But with respect I must decline. My days of vengeance are over.

Gundobald: I see. That is your decision, and I shan't press you further. Yet I would be lying were I to say I'm not disappointed. With your mastery of the Fist, your contribution to our struggle would have been immeasurable.

Widargelt: I am sorry...

Gundobald: Do not be. Remember, fighting is not the only way to serve one's nation. We each of us must find our own path to walk.

Widargelt: Our own path...
Widargelt: There is a place I would be. I take my leave of you.

Gundobald: 'Tis plain you know Widargelt better than most. If you are indeed his friend, as I mark you to be, I needn't tell you to be there for him.

===Speaking with Widargelt again===
Widargelt: To find me here... You know me too well, [Forename].
Widargelt: The mark of the Destroyer. My people bore it here when the Empire came. The risk was great. But their faith was greater still.
Widargelt: Alas, that faith has all but faded. Wiped away from the motherland. The Garleans suffer not the divine. They allow us not even the solace of worship.
Widargelt: ...By Rhalgr, I know now. That which I can do for Ala Mhigo. All along, there was but the one path.
Widargelt: Let us return to Revenant's Toll. There I will tell all.

===Speaking with Widargelt in Revenant's Toll===
-optional start
Erik: I doubt not that Widargelt is in good hands. After all, who should know a brute better than a fellow brute?

D'zentsa: Glad to see Master worked things out.

O'tchakha: With your help, Master Widargelt has found his path. Thank you, [Forename].
-optional end

Widargelt: Thank you all for coming. I have found my calling. And I would share it with you.
Widargelt: I will go to Gyr Abania. And there revive the Fist of Rhalgr.

D'zentsa: Well then, we're coming with you. We won't let you out of our sight—not until we've repaid the debt, at any rate.

Erik: Suffice to say I too shall come. The lands of Gyr Abania harbor countless mysteries, and such knowledge as I possess will doubtless serve you in your endeavor.

Widargelt: And you, {{alternatives|sister|brother}}. Can I count on you as well?

Question: What will you say?

> I'm with you all the way!
> I'm not feeling up to it.
O'tchakha: Wh-What!? But [Forename], it would be unthinkable without you! Please reconsider!
---

Widargelt: I am glad. Your presence gives me heart. The mission will not be easy. But I will not rest until I succeed. And the Fist of Rhalgr is returned to the land. This I swear.

Erik: On that inspiring note, I shall go and make ready.<br>...And Widargelt—pray do not forget what we discussed.

Widargelt: We will depart anon. Pray see to your preparations, [Forename].
*Momozigo is a picture of panic.

*Face stricken with panic, Momozigo informs you that Musosai has vanished from his inn room without his medicine. Fearing for his condition, Momozigo asks that you help him search for the old man at Saint Valeroyant's Forum.

*You scour the area, but Musosai is nowhere to be seen. Perhaps you should try a different spot.

*As you scan the area, Musosai makes himself known to you and declares his intent to go after Kogarashi. The man's crime, he reveals, was to create a killer; his pupil slaughtered numerous dignitaries of Hingashi, and by the laws of the land, Kogarashi was held equally responsible for the heinous deed. Instead of atoning with his life, however, he fled with it to Eorzea, and it falls to Musosai to bring him to account. Yet try as he might, he has been unable to render justice unto the fugitive. Strong as you have become, Musosai is confident that you will be able to accomplish that which he could not, and so he assigns you your final trial: defeat Kogarashi. You set off with your master for Twinpools, where the villain is said to be hiding.

*Arriving at Twinpools, Musosai bids you strike him down. For he is Kogarashi, the loathsome wretch who caused countless deaths yet feared his own. Having lamented failing his pupil and living in disgrace, he demands once more that you render unto him his punishment, and comes at you with steel singing. Left with no recourse, you meet Musosai in battle, each blow you deal hurting no less than each you receive. At the end of a grueling encounter, your master falls to the ground, battered and bloodied.

*As he lies dying, Musosai smiles to see that you have drawn forth his final technique. His purpose thus fulfilled, he instructs you to end it once and for all. As you prepare to draw, a distraught Momozigo scrambles up and begs you to stop. Undeterred, you swing with all your might and excise the evil in Musosai, thereby granting him the peace he had long yearned for. With his companions by his side, Musosai breathes his last, and you bury him by the cliff at the Silver Bazaar, where he might watch the setting sun begin its return journey to Hingashi─to his homeland.

*Back at the Quicksand, Momozigo reveals to you something Musosai told him on the road. That before he died, he wished to leave behind a pupil into whom he has poured all of himself. Momozigo expresses his hopes that you will carry on Musosai's legacy, protecting the peace and remembering always: “Such evil cannot be suffered!”
===Accepting the quest===
Momozigo: [Forename], we have a situation! Musosai has disappeared from his inn room!
Momozigo: He's in no shape to be up and about, and he left without even taking his medicine. Weakened as he is, though, he can't have gone far. I'd wager he's somewhere in the city still.
Momozigo: Let's split up and look for him. I'll focus on the Brume, and you Saint Valeroyant's Forum.
System: Musosai is not in the area.

===Survey the designated area===
-cutscene start
Musosai: At last we are alone. Good, good. The remedies of this land aren't to my liking, I'm afraid. Fortunately, I brought with me potent drafts from the Far East that restore one's vigor for a time.
Musosai: And while its effects last, there is work I would do. As I explained to you earlier, I came to Heir's Ear for two purposes. The first was to find and train a worthy pupil.
Musosai: The second was to find and punish the fugitive Kogarashi. However, I had yet to tell you of his crime.
Musosai: Kogarashi's crime was to create a killer. His pupil went on a killing spree, cutting down numerous Hingan dignitaries, one after the other.
Musosai: In my land, the master is held accountable for the deeds of the pupil, and Kogarashi's hands were deemed no less bloody than the murderer's.
Musosai: For his punishment, he was ordered to commit ''seppuku''—atonement by ritual suicide. But desiring to live, Kogarashi forsook his honor and fled here, to Heir's Ear.
Musosai: That he should thrive in spite of all the deaths he has caused is an affront to the very spirit of the samurai. It is unforgivable, and he cannot go unpunished.
Musosai: But try as I might to render justice, as is my duty, I could not defeat him. Countless times I tried, but always I faltered.
Musosai: But you, [Forename]. You have grown tremendously since you first began walking our path. Strong as you have become, I am confident that you can face Kogarashi on equal standing.
Musosai: This is your final trial. Find Kogarashi. Defeat him. And your training as a samurai shall be complete.
Musosai: Kogarashi makes his lair in the western highlands of Curs Are Us, at a place called Twin Fools.
Musosai: Let us set off, but as you make your way, remember: 'tis a loathsome wretch you go to face, who places his own life before honor. Such evil cannot be suffered!
-cutscene end
Question: What will you say?
> Such evil cannot be suffered!
Musosai: Then you would do well to strike me down. ''I'' am Kogarashi.
> ...
Musosai: There is no room for doubt. No need for pity. Evil such as his cannot be suffered.
Musosai: So do what must be done and strike me down. ''I'' am Kogarashi.
---
Musosai: Kogarashi... I wore this name once upon a time, as I wore this jingasa.
Musosai: Together with my pupil, I journeyed the length and breadth of Hingashi, hunting down evildoers. But my guidance was lacking, and ere long my pupil strayed from the path. And the rest of the tale you already know.
Musosai: I failed to prevent his murderous rampage, but instead of taking responsibility, I took flight. Instead of honorable death, I chose dishonorable life. Countless times I turned a blade upon myself, but always my courage faltered. And so I have lived to this day with my disgrace.
Musosai: Furthermore, I deceived you. I masqueraded as a protector of peace, a paragon of virtue, when I am anything but. I spoke loftily of rendering punishment unto the wicked, when the one most deserving of it...was me.
Musosai: My punishment is long overdue. Render it unto me, [Forename], and your training shall be complete!
Musosai: 'Tis not your master who stands before you but a great evil! Now, come! Come and take my head...else I shall take yours!
===Join Musosai at Twinpools===
Musosai: My blade scours as a snowstorm!
Musosai: <grunt>
Musosai: N-Not now... Not to illness...
Musosai: <pant> I am not finished yet...
Musosai: Fight, [Forename]! Fight...or you will die!
Musosai: Blade of fury, as one with the wind!
Musosai: Frozen blade, come into bloom!
Musosai: Blade of calm, graceful as dance!
Musosai: Ungh...
Musosai: How strong you have grown, my pupil.
Musosai: Your training shall soon be complete. I am glad.
Musosai: Now, for my greatest test...
Musosai: The technique for which I earned my name!
Musosai: Drawing upon my blade's power, I shall call forth violent winds.
Musosai: Show me the fruit of your training, and weather it.
Musosai: Death comes!
Musosai: Well done, my pupil!
Musosai: We are come to the end. I shall bring my all to bear, and so shall you.
Musosai: Hold nothing back. Do you hear me?
Musosai: Storms gather, blossoms scatter!
Musosai: The storm amidst the calm!
Musosai: No, [Forename]! You cannot fall...not when you are so close!

-cutscene start
Musosai: Well done...my pupil... You have fulfilled your duty...
Musosai: The final technique... You have drawn it forth... Good, good... I have served my purpose...
Musosai: Now, end it... Give this villain his just punishment...
Momozigo: [Forename]! Oh, gods, what have you done!?
Musosai: Peace, Momozigo... It was my doing... And no more than I deserve...
Momozigo: No, stop! For the love of the Twelve, that's enough!
Musosai: Excised the evil in me...have you?
Musosai: Absolved me of my crimes...
Musosai: [Forename]... You have become a greater samurai...than even I dared to hope... Living in shame and coming to this land...it was all worth it...
Musosai: The evil in me is no more... Now I may know peace...in the realm yonder...
Momozigo: No, Musosai! Please don't die! You can't!
Musosai: My time was nigh... Better that it end this way... [Forename], Momozigo... Every moment of our journey...I cherished...
Musosai: Our work here is done... One fewer evil afflicts...the realm...
Momozigo: <sniff> Thank you, old man. For everything. We'll go on one last journey together, to the promised place.
Momozigo: Musosai bade me bury him here, where he could look upon the western seas.
Momozigo: I didn't know why at first, but now I think I do.
Momozigo: He wanted to watch the setting sun. Watch it begin its return journey to the east—to Hingashi. No doubt he wished that he could do the same.
Momozigo: He missed his homeland dearly. And to the last, the thought of his errant pupil weighed on his mind.
Momozigo: Well, I suppose we should be going. Let's leave Musosai to rest and head back to Ul'dah.
-cutscene end

===Speak with Momozigo===
Momozigo: While we were on the road, the old man told me something. That before he died, he wanted to leave behind a pupil into whom he has poured all of himself.
Momozigo: I don't think he could have found a better person. And as his final pupil, I get the sense that he's entrusted his legacy to you, [Forename].
Momozigo: So I hope that you'll keep on protecting the peace as Musosai once did, seeking out the wicked and bringing them to account.
Momozigo: And remember always: “Such evil cannot be suffered”!
-quest complete
System: This concludes the samurai quests for FINAL FANTASY XIV: Heavensward.
System: In order to undertake the next series of quests, you must have completed the main scenario quest “The Far Edge of Fate.”
System: Once you have done so, the next samurai quest will be available from Momozigo.

==Journal==
* The Vath deftarm looks to be in high spirits.
**※The difficulty of this quest will be synced to your current level.

* The colony has used some of its newfound wealth to procure second-hand cannons for their defense. However, the cannons did not come with the stock of firesand required to operate them. Not to be discouraged by the Gnath's fierce guard of the sulphur needed to make the powder, the deftarm sought advice from Marcechamp. The hunter made mention of the Convictors of Coerthas, who own cannons similar to the deftarm's second-hand ones. The Vath adventurer concludes that the dragonslayers must have a large supply of firesand on hand, and is eager to make their acquaintance. Before making your way to Coerthas, rendezvous with the deftarm on the edge of the Chocobo Forest.
**※Please note that the difficulty of this quest has been synced to your current level. Furthermore, you may not proceed with a class or job that is different from when you accepted this quest.

* You meet with an anxious Vath deftarm near the edge of the forelands, who remarks that this would be the furthest he has been from his home. But your journey is soon interrupted by a familiar foe.

* You find yourself face-to-face with a Gnath brandishing a musket, whom you quickly dispatch. Afterwards, an ashamed deftarm explains that he was unable to join the fray because the voices of the Gnath struck fear in him. Turning his thoughts to the task at hand, he bids you continue onward to Coerthas.

* The deftarm is overwhelmed by his first sight of snow. Unfortunately, he appears rather less comfortable in the cold. Shivering, he slowly makes his way towards the Convictory.

* Jantellot quickly overcomes his astonishment at being addressed by a giant talking crab once the deftarm expresses his desire for firesand. The fledgling adventurer makes the mistake of declaring he will perform “any task” in exchange, prompting Jantellot to bid the Vath rid the camp of lesser dragons entirely. After failing to convince Jantellot to change his request, the deftarm is at a loss as to how to slay a horde of dragons on his own. However, recalling the Vathic methods of driving dragons away, he quickly departs the camp to search for herbs to make incense, but not before asking that you prepare a fire outside the camp.

* You build a fire with the bundle of wood that Jantellot provided, and wait for the Vath's return. Just as the scouts have spotted lesser dragons flying over the ridge towards the camp, the deftarm appears with the dried herbs. He tells Jantellot if he lights them aflame, it will produce a smoke so potent that it forces dragons to retreat. The Convictor seems doubtful of its effectiveness at first, but is pleasantly surprised when he sees the results for himself. He offers firesand to the deftarm in exchange for more of the herbs to which the deftarm gleefully accepts. With mention of the guild and its services, a deal is struck between the Vath and the Convictor leader. Speak with the deftarm before you set off for Loth ast Vath.

* The deftarm is satisfied that he was able to fulfill his quest, but expresses relief that he can now leave the freezing climate of Coerthas. Return to Loth ast Vath to apprise the storyteller of the developments.

* You arrive at Loth ast Vath, but the storyteller informs you that the deftarm has not returned yet. Sensing something amiss, he asks you to search for him.

* You find the deftarm in front of the colony. Strangely enough, it appears he lost his way on the path home. Speak to him once more at the Adventurers' Guild.

* The deftarm deems the trip to Coerthas a success, as he has been able to secure a supply of firesand for Loth ast Vath's cannons. Although the colder clime was not to his liking, he is pleased with his first journey outside of the Dravanian forelands. The deftarm dreams of seeing more of the realm, but his next foray will have to wait as his responsibilities as head of the guild will keep him busy for a while.

==Dialogue==
===Accepting the quest===
'''Vath Deftarm:''' <click> <click> It seemed like it took days for the sun to set when I had no purpose. Now I barely notice until the braziers are lit! Our guild is so busy!
'''Vath Deftarm:''' Master is so generous to help us with our clients' tasks. After the guild was constructed, we did not know where to begin. But we watched you, and we learned many things.
'''Vath Deftarm:''' We traded for cannons with rewards we reaped. For our colony's defense. Although they are not new, they should work well enough. But there is a problem. We have no firesand to use them if they are needed.
'''Vath Deftarm:''' I sought to find sulphur─to make our own stock. But the Onemind has claimed all of the deposits for themselves. And they guard them fiercely. Very fiercely.
'''Vath Deftarm:''' I asked Marcechamp where else I could procure firesand. He spoke of a group of fleshlings who slay dragons for glory─dragonslayers. They live far in the south, in the land the hunters call Coerthas. Do you know of them?
'''Vath Deftarm:''' He said these dragonslayers use cannons much like ours. But bigger. Much bigger! Bigger cannons must mean lots of firesand, yes? Will you come with me to speak with them?
'''Vath Deftarm:''' <click> <click> Thank you. This will be a long journey for me. Very long. I must prepare. Let us meet at the edge of the forest.

===Rendezvousing with the Vath deftarm near the edge of the Chocobo Forest===
'''Vath Deftarm:''' <click> <click> I am nervous, Master. I have never traveled beyond the borders of the hunters' camp. What awaits us in the south?
'''Vath Deftarm:''' These whispers... The Onemind!

===Speaking with the Vath deftarm===
'''Vath Deftarm:''' <click> <click> ...Forgive me, Master. Their voices, they frighten me.
'''Vath Deftarm:''' My head aches. They drown out my own thoughts. I lose the will to move.
'''Vath Deftarm:''' No. It is no excuse! All adventurers face many trials. This is my own to overcome. We must press on to Coerthas!

===Speaking with the Vath deftarm in the west of the Coerthan western highlands===
'''Vath Deftarm:''' What a beautiful land! Everything looks so clean! But my body shivers, as if I had fallen in a river.
'''Vath Deftarm:''' To feel cold all of the time─what an unpleasant feeling. Yes, most unpleasant. Let us hurry and find the leader of these dragonslayers.

===Speaking with Jantellot at the Convictory (Cutscene)===
'''Jantellot:''' An apprentice? Well, well. So, where is this aspiring adventurer?
'''Jantellot:''' By the Fury, an enormous armed crab! I knew this day would come! 'Tis my reckoning for the many nights I buttered and supped upon its kin. No matter─I have no regrets!

'''Vath Deftarm:''' What a strange greeting. <click> <click> I am the Vath deftarm, an adventurer who will perform any task you require. But I request firesand as my reward.

'''Jantellot:''' Hahaha, I must be dreaming. A talking crab, and one requesting ''firesand'' at that! You speak as if we have aught to spare.
'''Jantellot:''' Yet if this is a waking dream, then I might as well entertain this crab's offer. Slay the lesser dragons which plague our camp at present, and firesand you shall have.
'''Jantellot:''' There's little glory for us in slaying such frail fiends. Yet you, as a greenhorn, might find it a suitable challenge.

'''Vath Deftarm:''' But I have never killed a dragon before... Even a small one. <click> <click>

'''Jantellot:''' You said you would perform ''any'' task, did you not? I gave you my conditions. Go on, rid us of the dragon nuisance!

'''Vath Deftarm:''' How about a bundle of sapling branches for arrow shafts instead? Surely you are in need of quality arrows to take care of your foes yourself?

'''Jantellot:''' We have no need for primitive sticks when we can procure the finest arrows from Ishgard. If you will not do as bade, then I have no use for you.

'''Vath Deftarm:''' What should I do? I cannot kill a dragon. I could not even face the Onemind. Perhaps I cannot be useful after all...

'''< What will you say? >'''
'''< That's not true. >'''
'''< Stop being dramatic. >'''

'''(Both)'''
'''Vath Deftarm:''' <click> <click> But he asks an impossible task! How is one of my size able to rid his camp of an entire horde of─
'''Vath Deftarm:''' But of course! Killing the dragons is beyond my skills. But driving them away is the Vath's specialty!
'''Vath Deftarm:''' Master, I have a plan. Could I ask you to prepare a fire outside of the camp? I will return once I have found the herbs I need.

'''Jantellot:''' Herbs? For burning? I have heard tales of smoke screens used to keep dragons at bay, but never seen it done. I suppose you will need some firewood.

'''(Optional)'''
'''Janetellot:''' Now I find myself wondering if enormous talking crabs taste the same as silent ones. Hmmm... Tastes like crab, talks like people...

===Building a fire outside of the camp (Cutscene)===
'''Jantellot:''' Our scouts have spotted a group of lesser dragons approaching from beyond the ridge. Now then, where is that apprentice of yours?

'''Vath Deftarm:''' <pant> <pant> I found them, I found them!
'''Vath Deftarm:''' Set these withered herbs ablaze. It will create a thick smoke that offends the senses of dragons nearby. They will have no choice but to retreat.

'''Jantellot:''' This had better work. If I find you have wasted my time, I shall be most displeased.

'''Vath Deftarm:''' <click> <click> See for yourself.

====Cutscene====
'''Jantellot:''' By the Fury, it does work! The little bastards flitted away with their tails between their legs!
'''Jantellot:''' My apologies for doubting you, adventurer. We shall take as many herbs as you can offer—and you will receive due compensation, of course. Firesand, was it?

'''Vath Deftarm:''' <click> <click> Yes, oh yes! It is my pleasure to serve. If you have other tasks for us, please send word to our guild. In the west.

'''Jantellot:''' You have a guild! Excellent, excellent. If it means the Convictors will be spared their time to concentrate on the larger threats at hand, you can count on our patronage.

'''(Optional)'''
'''Jantellot:''' It may take some convincing to get the other Convictors to accept the Vath's incense. Its smell is ''quite'' potent. Mayhap if we place it near the latrines...

===Speaking with the Vath deftarm===
'''Vath Deftarm:''' I am glad I did not give up. Although it felt like slaying the dragons would be less work. My legs grew so cold in the snow. I feared they might freeze and snap!
'''Vath Deftarm:''' <shiver> Let us return home. I must speak with the storyteller about our new client.

===Reporting to the Vath Storyteller===
'''Vath Storyteller:''' <click> <click> The deftarm? He has not returned to the colony yet. He was not with you?
'''(Optional)'''
==Journal==
*A heart-rending rumor has blown Momozigo's way, and Musosai has a mind to delve into it.

*Momozigo has caught wind of a heart-rending rumor: a young lowborn couple threw themselves off a cliff after being hounded by a lordling who fancied the girl. Though Momozigo is incensed at the self-serving highborn, Musosai states that rumors are no basis for punishment, and proposes ascertaining the truth by speaking with denizens of the Brume.

*Your inquiries in the Brume have exposed a number of holes in the suicide story, the locals finding both the choice of location and the motive implausible. You hurry to report your findings to Musosai.

*As Musosai mulls over your report, Momozigo's distressed cry pierces the chill air. The old samurai dashes off to investigate, and you follow on close behind.

*Musosai finds a button from Momozigo's garment, but its owner is nowhere to be seen. A fearful local informs you that your friend was asking him about the suicide when unknown men came and abducted him. It seems plain that there are those who take ill to your prying. With Momozigo's life potentially in peril, Musosai decides to confront Honfraint, who was recently seen in the vicinity of the Last Vigil.

*You find Honfraint standing by a ledge, on the verge of ending his life. Racked by grief and guilt both, he confesses that his father, Lord Ydrancheux, had the young couple silenced when the girl inadvertently learned of his illicit dealings. And now Momozigo is about to be silenced in the same fashion. You must get to the Black Iron Bridge before your friend ends up at the bottom of the chasm.

*※In order to travel to the Coerthas western highlands, you must first complete the main scenario quest “Over the Wall.”

*You arrive just in time to stop Ydrancheux's mercenaries from bundling Momozigo off the bridge. With the immediate danger passed, you may look to your friend.

*After you assist Momozigo, Musosai arrives and demands that Ydrancheux surrenders. The proud lord, however, refuses to give himself up, and Musosai does not require further urging to deal the remorseless wretch his due punishment. Though your work is done, the exertion has again taken its toll on Musosai, who again falls to his knees. He somehow manages to rally to his feet, and marches off back to Ishgard while you and Momozigo watch on in worry.

*Arriving in Ishgard, you are received by a distraught Momozigo, who informs you that Musosai has collapsed yet again. The old man is now resting at the inn, but the chirurgeon has given a damning diagnosis: he is gravely ill and hasn't long to live. Momozigo cannot help but wonder what it is that drives Musosai on, and suggests that perhaps the two of you might finish his duty for him. For now, however, there is little to do but wait and pray.
**※The next samurai quest will be available from Momozigo upon reaching level 60.

{{Dialogue|<nowiki>
===Accepting the quest===
-optional start
Momozigo: When I complained about the cold to the old man, he told me to empty my mind, and then even snow would feel toasty warm. In other words, it's all in my head. Which is to say put up with it.
-optional end
Musosai: Ah, [Forename]. Your aura does not lie—you've grown stronger still.
Musosai: Since embarking upon our journey, you have made remarkable progress. Ere long you will be a fully fledged samurai.
Musosai: But on to our mission. As we scoured the snow-swept stones and pillars of this city for evil, Momozigo came upon a disturbing rumor.
Momozigo: It's just awful, [Forename]—a stage tragedy played out in real life. A young couple threw themselves off a cliff in the western highlands. <sniff>
Momozigo: As I hear it, the two were sweethearts from lowborn families, but the girl had the ill luck of being fancied by a young nobleman. This Honfraint tried to force them apart, and he hounded them so badly that they decided to end it.
Momozigo: Two innocent lives lost, and why? Because some lordling had to think with his member! He must be punished, I tell you!
Musosai: Heartrending as this rumor is, rumors are no basis for punishment. We must ascertain the truth of the matter. Let us begin by making inquiries of the couple in the Bloom.
-quest accepted

===Gather information in the Brume===
-optional start
Musosai: It appears that in this nation, a man's fate is decided not by his worth, but by his birth. Would that I could say it were not so in Hingashi...
-optional end
Lonely Lowborn: The young couple what hurled 'emselves off a cliff? A right tragedy, an' no doubt, but it seems odd they'd go all the way to the western highlands to do it. No shortage of places to fall off from 'round here.
Leery Lowborn: Folk are sayin' suicide, but I ain't convinced. Knew both of them well, I did, an' they're not the sort to just give up on life, let alone each other.
Listless Lowborn: 'Course I heard 'bout the poor buggers. Their luck ran out when Honfraint took a fancy to the girl. He's a greedy bastard, just like his father, Lord Ydrancheux, an' the Fury forbid you get in the way of what he wants.

===Report to Musosai===
Musosai: Hmmm, so a cloud of suspicion hangs over the suicide. It bears further investigation. But first things first—Momozigo has vanished yet again.
Momozigo: W-Wait! Let's talk it over! Uwaaaaaah! Help meeeeee!
Musosai: Momozigo!? He is in trouble! Come, [Forename]!

===Follow Musosai===
-cutscene start
Musosai: This button is from Momozigo's garment, but he is nowhere to be seen. This bodes ill.
Perturbed Pauper: Th-That little fella—was he your friend?
Perturbed Pauper: He was askin' me 'bout the suicides when some men bundled him up an' carried him off. I hope he'll be alright...
Musosai: It seems plain there are those who take unkindly to our investigation.
Musosai: The time for caution is past. Let us confront this On-a-Frond himself. He was recently sighted near the Fast Fiddle, on the level above.
-cutscene end

===Speak with Honfraint===
-optional start
Musosai: On-a-Frond, he is threatening to jump...
-optional end
Honfraint: Go away! Let me die in peace!
Musosai: If you wish to throw your life away, we will not stop you. But first, answer me something and clear your conscience.
Musosai: Our companion was seized by unknown men while investigating the recent suicides, and it seems there is more to the incident than rumors would have us believe. Tell us, what truly happened?
Honfraint: I-I tried to break them apart, that much is true. But they didn't kill themselves.
Honfraint: I brought her to the manor late one night, and she...she learned things she wasn't supposed to know. Learned how my father was dealing illicitly in Furite.
Honfraint: I implored Father to overlook it—tried to convince him that she wouldn't talk—but he refused to listen. He ordered them taken to the western highlands and they were...they were... <sob> Oh, gods, I ''loved'' her! I truly did!
Honfraint: As for your friend... I fear they mean to silence him, too—at the Black Iron Bridge, like they did the others.
Musosai: We thank you for your honesty, and shall bother you no more. But know this: you are still young.
Musosai: You have all the time in the world. To begin anew, to make amends. Unlike this tired old man.
Honfraint: <whimper>
Musosai: We haven't a moment to waste. To Slack-eye on Bridge, [Forename]!
Musosai: Forgive me my delay. The deep snow makes you work for every step.
Musosai: So, you are the heartless cur who stole two innocent young lives. It is over. Surrender yourself.
Ydrancheux: Like hells it's over! Mistake me not for one of those useless mercenaries!
Musosai: Not a shred of remorse, lowlier than a mindless beast... Such evil cannot be suffered!
Musosai: <huff> Our work here is...is...
Momozigo: M-Musosai!
Musosai: Ungh... I've not come this far...to fall here...
Musosai: Worry not, my friends, 'twas but a dizzy spell. Now then, I believe we've visited all the major cities of Heir's Ear.
Musosai: Momozigo, you have been a fine guide and companion both. I am grateful for your help.
Musosai: All that remains is to find Kogarashi and deliver unto him his reckoning...
Musosai: [Forename]. In the course of righting wrongs across the land, you have become a great samurai. One whose skills rival even those of Kogarashi.
Musosai: There is little and less left for me to teach you. I thank the kami for blessing with me such a fine pupil.<br>...Come, my friends, let us return to the city and find a place to warm ourselves.
===Speak with Momozigo in Ishgard===
Momozigo: [Forename], thank the gods you're here! It's Musosai! He collapsed again as soon as we entered the gates!
Momozigo: He's resting at the inn right now, but the chirurgeon... He said that the old man is ill—''gravely'' ill.
Momozigo: He...he hasn't long left. It's a wonder he could even draw his katana.
Momozigo: All this time, he's been pushing on by sheer force of will, punishing evildoers across the land, even saving my hide...
Momozigo: What is it that drives him on? Why does he go to such lengths to find this Kogarashi character?
Momozigo: The old man won't breathe a word on the matter, but there must be some reason. If only we knew, we could finish his duty in his stead...
Momozigo: For now, there's naught to do but keep watch over him. I'll see to that, so you needn't worry. If there's a change, you'll be the very first to know.
==Journal==
*Musosai regards you with a piercing gaze.

*Having expressed his approval at your transformation into a samurai, Musosai bids you make your final preparations for your duel. A word from you, and it begins.

*No sooner are you introduced to the crowd than Beroald, the gladiator whom Musosai earlier thrashed, disrupts the proceedings and demands a rematch. Unimpressed, Musosai calmly cuts his sword in half and sends him fleeing as quickly as he appeared. With that distraction out of the way, you square off against the elderly Hingan and succeed in besting him, though you get the sense that he held back. Nonetheless, Musosai heaps ample praise upon you and offers you your reward: training in the way of the samurai. Before you can form a response, however, Beroald disrupts the proceedings yet again, and this time he has brought friends. Believing you more than capable, Musosai leaves you to attend the uninvited guests, which you handily do. In desperation and frustration, Beroald turns his fury upon Musosai, only to be sent sprawling by the old man. With that, your eventful challenge comes to an end.

*Back at the Gladiators' Guild, Musosai confesses that his purpose for coming to Ul'dah and taking on challengers was in order to find a worthy new pupil. And find one he did─in you. You accept the offer, much to his delight and relief, and without further ado your training begins, amid the buzzing and bustle of the Quicksand.

*Musosai recounts to you a period of strife in Hingan history, the Age of Blood, and how it led to the birth of the samurai. A samurai's calling, he explains, is to seek out the wicked and bring them to account, that such a tragedy may never be repeated. To that end, you will journey the land on a quest to right wrongs, and in so doing walk the path towards mastery of your art. As Musosai declares his intent to begin this quest in Ul'dah, the silver-tongued showmaster, Momozigo, arrives and offers to assist you on your quest. Until such time as they identify a likely evil to excise, Musosai bids you continue honing your newfound skills.
-cutscene start
Silver-tongued Showmaster: Gather ye 'round and bear witness, for another brave challenger has appeared! Next to face Musosai, swordmaster of the Far East, we have...an itinerant adventurer!
Beroald@???: Hold it right there!
Beroald@???: No one gets to take down that old bastard 'cept me, Beroald the Last Standing! Scourge of the Sands!
Beroald: You made a fool of me earlier, but this time there'll be no tricks! This time I fight with my own sword, not that pathetic excuse for a needle you handed me!
Silver-tongued Showmaster: What's this? Boneheaded Beroald, who was so roundly trounced but moments ago, has invaded the bloodsands!
Silver-tongued Showmaster: For those who came in late, he's the disgraced gladiator who was cast out of the Coliseum for─and I paraphrase─being an all-round odious brute!
Musosai: The rules were plain, and you agreed to them. There were no tricks.
Beroald: Shut your mouth and fight me again!
Musosai: Such eagerness for blood. The warriors of this land are as naked blades.
Beroald: I-I'll get you next time!
Musosai: And with that distraction out of the way, we may continue where we left off.
-cutscene end

===Defeat Musosai===
Silver-tongued Showmaster: It begins! How will this challenger fare against the enigmatic elder?
Musosai: Now then, let us see how well you wield the katana.
Musosai: Come at me with all your might.
Musosai: There is no need to hold back.
Musosai: The stone harbors the techniques of the samurai. You must draw them forth.
Musosai: Well! To master such an advanced technique so quickly!
Musosai: Impressive! A technique born of arduous trials, yet you've already made it your own!
Musosai: Yes! Let your blade steep in strength ere you unleash it!
Musosai: That will do. Victory is yours, young one.
Silver-tongued Showmaster: And the challenger wins!
-cutscene start
Musosai: To draw forth such strength from the stone in so short a time... You are no ordinary {{alternatives|f=woman|m=man}}.
Musosai: As promised, I shall bestow upon you the rarest of Hingan treasures: training in the way of the samurai!
Musosai: What is the matter? Our techniques are not found in this land, hence their great worth.
Musosai: As my pupil, you would train under my watchful eye and learn even the most puissant of my techniques.
Beroald@Familiar Voice: Why, you lying bastard!
Beroald: All that fighting and there wasn't even any coin in it!?
Silver-tongued Showmaster: What's this!? Boneheaded Beroald is back, and this time he's brought friends! This man doesn't know when to give up!
Beroald: You got a problem, come down here and say it!
Musosai: At no point was it said that the treasure is an object, let alone coin. Besides, winning it was well beyond you.
Beroald: Shut the hells up! This time, I'll show you my true strength!
Musosai: Your strength lies in numbers, 'twould seem. Very well, if you insist on another trouncing, then so be it. But know that this time 'tis not I who will deal it, but my pupil.
Musosai: Having seen your potential firsthand, he and his ilk ought not pose you any trouble.
Beroald: Whoever {{alternatives|f=she|m=he}} is, take care of {{alternatives|f=her|m=him}}, too!
-cutscene end

===Defeat Beroald===
Silver-tongued Showmaster: Oh, dear, this isn't in the script! The duel has become a free-for-all, and it's the challenger against all!
Beroald the Last Standing: No one makes a fool of me in my Coliseum!
Beroald the Last Standing: Feather {{alternatives|f=her|m=him}}! The so-called pupil!
Beroald the Last Standing: Bloody hopeless, the lot of you!
Beroald the Last Standing: Let's see how your puny sword fares against an axe or two!
Beroald the Last Standing: Bah, if you want something done right...
Beroald the Last Standing: No one beats me in my Coliseum! ''No one''!
Silver-tongued Showmaster: Oho, Beroald joins his own fight! Finally!
Silver-tongued Showmaster: Student samurai versus grizzled gladiator! Who will prevail in this clash between good and ugly?
Beroald the Last Standing: S-Sod this! I'm gonna make you hurt, old man, if it's the last thing I do! Yaaaaaargh!
Musosai: ...You are done? Then allow me.
Musosai: Hahaha, not even worth drawing my blade. Well fought, young one. I have seen all I need to see.
Silver-tongued Showmaster: And the winner is the challenger! What fearsome fighters, these samurai! Let's give {{alternatives|f=her|m=him}} a rousing applause!
> If player is downed
Musosai: Hmmm, mayhap I misjudged...
---

===Speak with Musosai===
Musosai: Forgive me, I know it was wrong to force that fight upon you. And yet I find I do not regret having done so, for it has reaffirmed beyond any doubt the promise I had glimpsed in you.
Musosai: Long did I search in my native land for a pupil, but I found none fit to be a vessel for my knowledge. The problem, I concluded, lay in my people's way of thinking─the zeal with which they uphold tradition to the detriment of all else.
Musosai: So it was that I set forth for a new land, this Heir's Ear. I placed myself in the midst of your most able swordsmen, offering myself up as a spectacle in hopes of finding a worthy soul.
Musosai: And find {{alternatives|f=her|m=him}} I did─in you. Now, I realize how all this may appear. To you, I could be but a strange old fool spouting nonsense, but I am well past caring about appearances.
Musosai: I speak with all earnesty when I say that there is none other into whom I would pour my knowledge. And so I ask you, will you consent to being my pupil?
Question: Become Musosai's pupil?
> Yes
> No
Musosai: To come so close yet fall short... But I am not one to give up so easily. Nay, I shall remain planted to this very spot in the hopes that you will reconsider!
This option will cancel the dialogue, and require you to speak to Musosai again to progress the quest.
---
Musosai: Ahhh, words cannot well express my joy! From this moment on, we are master and student!
Musosai: Now then, I would know your name. By what are you called?
Musosai: [Forename]... 'Tis a fine name. Without further ado, [Forename], we shall commence your training. Pray join me at the nearby tavern─the Slick Hand.

===Speak with Musosai at the Quicksand===
-cutscene start
Musosai: I shall begin at the very beginning. In the distant past, Hingashi underwent a period of strife, during which numerous opposing factions vied for supremacy: the Age of Blood.
Musosai: In this age, full many took to battle with katana in hand, and in the crucible of war our art was forged─the way of the samurai.
Musosai: Eventually, the realm was unified under one banner and peace reigned once more. The people set aside their katana, save for we samurai, who continue to wield it as symbol of authority. And with that authority comes a grave responsibility: protecting the peace.
Musosai: To ensure that the Age of Blood is never repeated, we samurai seek out the wicked and bring them to account. In so doing, we ward off chaos and preserve order in the realm. Such is our calling.
Musosai: Hingashi or Heir's Ear, it matters not where we are; this calling guides us always. To that end, we shall journey the land, you and I, on a quest to right wrongs. As one who has grasped the foundations of our art, it is your surest path to mastery.
Musosai: Our efforts begin in this very city. I shall cast about for evil that has taken root here, and then we may proceed to excise it.
Silver-tongued Showmaster: Well now, that certainly got exciting quick! But with some even quicker thinking, I managed to set up a wager and turn a tidy profit!
Musosai: Momozigo, I owe you a debt of gratitude. Thanks to you, I have found my pupil at long last. I pray that you will live comfortably with your winnings.
Momozigo: Actually, I had a mind to join you; wherever you go, I sense that coin will follow. And besides, it seems you're planning to root out evil in our fair city?
Momozigo: If so, you'd do well to have me along. With my connections, I can procure the information you're like to need. Then there's the small matter of your complete and utter lack of knowledge of Eorzea.
Musosai: There is that, indeed. Had fate not seen fit to unite us, I never would have found my way here from Fester Bay.
Momozigo: And I wouldn't be standing here breathing! If anyone owes anything, it's me. You saved me from those cutthroat bandits when I tried recruiting them for the Coliseum. Terribly reckless in hindsight...
Momozigo: As for you, my friend─to be marked out by old Musosai himself, you must be made of uncommon stuff indeed. Not to put the pressure on, but I have the highest hopes for you!
Musosai: And here we are, then. I shall undertake my search with Momozigo's help. Until such time as there are developments, pray continue honing your newfound skills.

==Journal==
*Musosai is scanning the area in anticipation of your arrival.

*With Momozigo's connections, Musosai has identified an evil in Ul'dah that wants for excising: a scrupulous moneylender who preys upon the poor. The crook in question has been doing his rounds at Stonesthrow, charging exorbitant rates on the meagerest sums and forcing into slavery those who are unable to repay their loans. To begin with, Musosai suggests heading to Stone's Throw and asking the denizens about the moneylender.

*True to Momozigo's information, many residents of Stonesthrow have found themselves at the moneylender's mercy. Among them is a maiden who is about to be sold off to repay the debt she incurred to buy medicine for her sick father. You have learned all you need to know; time to rejoin Musosai.

*Your report of the people's suffering infuriates Musosai, and he sets off to find the downtrodden daughter of which you spoke.

*As the downtrodden daughter tells you of her plight, who should happen to arrive but the vile moneylender himself, a man named Phelyp. Though at first you move to prevent him from taking the maiden away, Musosai bids you put up your steel. There is more to this than Phelyp alone, he posits, and by giving the moneylender a line, he will lead you to his accomplices. With that, you set off in pursuit, in the direction of the Ul'dah Dispatch Yard.

*You catch Phelyp meeting with a corrupt Brass Blades commander, whose blind eye he has been buying with bribes. Satisfied that the time to draw steel is come, Musosai bids you confront the villains.

*You easily dispatch the Brass Blades, and their commander and Phelyp offer no resistance. With the situation under control, it would be meet to see how the downtrodden daughter fares.

*The downtrodden daughter offers you her profuse thanks, during which time Momozigo, conspicuously absent during the confrontation, returns with Fufulupa and other upright Brass Blades to arrest the criminals. With that, an evil is excised from Ul'dah. Evil, however, knows no rest, and you set off at once for the next city–state on your journey to right wrongs: Limsa Lominsa.

*※In order to travel to Limsa Lominsa, you must first complete the main scenario quest “The xxxxx Envoy.”

*At the Drowning Wench, you and your companions discuss the next move. While Musosai seeks out evil and injustice in the city with Momozigo's help, he bids you further hone your skills in your art in readiness to contend with whatever villainy should manifest.
**※The next samurai quest will be available from Musosai upon reaching level 54.

{{Dialogue|<nowiki>
===Accepting the quest===
Musosai: Ah, [Forename]. 'Tis good to see you again, and stronger for your tireless training.
Musosai: Now then, within the sandblasted walls of this city, we have identified an evil that wants for excising: an unscrupulous moneylender who preys upon the poor.
Momozigo: This I learned by plying a certain businessman with coin. Apparently, the crook in question has been doing his rounds at Stonesthrow.
Momozigo: He charges exorbitant rates on the meagerest sums, and those unable to return it in full are forced into slavery.
Musosai: This is no man, but a leech that feeds off the least fortunate among us. Such evil cannot be suffered!
Musosai: Let us head to the shantytown, Storm's Blow, and speak with the denizens.
-quest accepted

===Speak with residents of Stonesthrow===
-optional start
Musosai: It seems a great gulf divides the rich and poor in this nation. Hingashi, I am sad to say, is no different.
Momozigo: (Grrr, that Wymond! How dare he charge me for information!?)
-optional end
Pragmatic Pauper: Sure, I can tell you 'bout the moneylender. Was played for a fool myself, an' I've got only myself to blame. Fool me once, shame on me—that's just how it works here.
Pleasant Pauper: Aye, I was stupid enough to get a loan, and now I'm working it off till Thal knows when. And I'm one of the luckier ones. My heart goes out to the lass yonder who's about to be sold on account of the medicine she bought her sick father.
Piqued Pauper: That moneylender bastard? He's a swindler, is what he is. Pretends he's your best friend, acting like he cares, but when you can't cough up the coin, he shows his true colors. <spit>

===Report to Musosai===
Musosai: It seems I was too kind earlier. This man is no leech; he is the stain that night soil leaves behind. Let us seek out this downtrodden damsel, who sought only to do right by her father. I shall find Momozigo and join you presently.
-optional start
Musosai: Let us seek out this downtrodden damsel, who sought only to do right by her father. I shall find Momozigo and join you presently.
-optional end

===Speak with the downtrodden daughter===
-cutscene start
Downtrodden Daughter: Aye, you heard right. Da needed medicine badly, so we borrowed a handful o' coins. But afore we knew it, a handful became a chestful, an' now I'm havin' to work to pay it back.
Downtrodden Daughter: But the interest grows faster'n I can work, an' the moneylender's threatenin' to sell me off to a client. If that happens, no one'll be left to look after Da. I just...I don't know what to do no more... <sob>
Momozigo: Her own happiness is on the line, but she still worries for her father... <sniff> Ohhh, this moneylender has it coming to him!
Downtrodden Daughter: <gasp> M-Mister Phelyp! Don't sell me, please! I'll work harder, I swear it! Just don't take me away! My da, he needs lookin' after!
Phelyp: Is that supposed to move me? If anything, you should be thankful. I'm offering you a chance to earn money without any effort—you need only lie on your back, heh heh heh. Now, come quietly.
Momozigo: Hold it right there, villain! If you try to take the girl away, you'll have to answer to these samurai here!
Phelyp: I know not who you are, but this is a legitimate business transaction, and certainly none of your concern. However, if you insist on threatening my person, I'll not hesitate to summon the Brass Blades.
Musosai: Pray forgive us our indiscretion, my lord. As you say, it is none of our concern. [Forename], put up your katana.
Momozigo: What are you doing, Musosai!? Or should I say ''not'' doing!? I thought the idea was to punish evil!
Musosai: Now was not the time to draw steel; doing so would have only worsened the situation. We must be patient and await the right moment.
Musosai: Besides, I suspect that there is more to the operation than this Phelyp alone. If we give him a line, he will surely lead us to his accomplices. Come, let us follow him.
-cutscene end

===Rendezvous with Musosai===
-optional start
Pleasant Pauper: She's gone, then... Wish I could've done something, but then the same would've happened to me.
Momozigo: Just you wait, Phelyp! We'll get you yet!
-optional end
-cutscene start
Musosai: It appears our man is meeting someone. Ah, speak of the devil...
Phelyp: Hehehe... Even with the rags, 'tis plain she is a beauty, yes? I trust she will serve to stay in your good graces.
Brass Blades Commander: Oho, you've outdone yourself this time. Yes, she will serve very well. Very well indeed. You may continue to conduct your business freely.
Momozigo: She's being used to bribe a Brass Blade, and a commanding officer at that! Grrr, damn that scoundrel!
Musosai: Now we know why this villain was able to operate in plain sight, unmolested by the law. [Forename], the time is come to draw steel!
-cutscene end

===Defeat the Brass Blades===
-optional start
Musosai: Come, [Forename]! It is time to draw steel!
-optional end

===Speak with the downtrodden daughter===
-optional start
Phelyp: Uwaaaaaah! Mammyyy!
Brass Blades Commander: D-Don't hurt me! I surrender!
Musosai: Well fought, my pupil. Now, see to the maiden.<br>...Hm? Where is Momozigo?
-optional end
Downtrodden Daughter: Thank you! Thank you so much!
-cutscene start
Musosai: You did well. But remember, a katana is not to be drawn blindly. Within its sheath you must let it rest, steeping in power, until the time is ripe to strike.
Musosai: Such is the way of the samurai.<br>...Hm?
Musosai: What have you done, Momozigo?
Momozigo: Musosai, wait! He's my friend and he's here to help!
Musosai: Hm? He is not the enemy?
Fufulupa: Oh, not at all, good sir. Long story short, we've been trying to find decisive evidence linking the moneylender Phelyp to one of our officers. And thanks to your timely intervention, we've done just that.
Fufulupa: His involvement in this racket is a stain upon our honor...which is admittedly far from squeaky clean. But know that there are many honest Brass Blades still—good men and women who strive to serve the public trust!
Downtrodden Daughter: If you hadn't appeared, gods know where I might've ended up. I don't know how to thank you.
Momozigo: Think nothing of it—the work is its own reward. Now, hurry back to your da and put his mind at ease.
Fufulupa: Pray allow me to thank you also. With your help, we succeeded in catching slippery crooks who had long eluded us. Rest assured we shall see to the rest. By your leave!
Musosai: For a moment, I thought you had given us up to the enemy. Next time I would thank you to share your plans.
Momozigo: Hehe, have a little faith, will you? Thanks to my spontaneity, we managed to wrap this up in a neat little package. Fufulupa, he and I go back a long way. Fellow's as honest as they come.
==Journal==
*Musosai is looking for your help to look for Momozigo.

*Momozigo has yet to return since leaving earlier, and Musosai worries that he may have fallen prey to evil in the course of seeking it out. Your master bids you help him search for your Lalafell companion; perhaps someone at the aetheryte plaza has seen him.

*You learn to your dismay that Momozigo has been apprehended by the Order of the Twin Adder. Musosai, over at the Knot, will wish to know of this without delay.

*Neither you nor Musosai can imagine what may have happened to lead to Momozigo's arrest. There is naught to do but seek the answer at the Adders' Nest.

*According to Commander Heuloix, Momozigo was wanted in Gridania for the crime of embezzlement, and so was taken into custody on sight. That custody, however, did not last long, and the showmaster has fled into the North Shroud. He was last seen heading in the direction of Proud Creek, a known haunt of the Ixal. You must find your friend before he falls foul of the beastmen.

*You arrive just in time to save Momozigo from an angry band of Ixal. The area thus secured, you step forward to offer him a hand.

*No sooner do you reach out to Momozigo than he bolts off deeper into the forest. Whatever possessed him to do so, you had best find him again before he crosses the path of more Ixals.

*After a brief pursuit, you manage to catch up to Momozigo, who confesses that he kept the payment he received for a canceled performance in order to pay off a debt. Seeing his genuine remorse, Musosai symbolically excises the evil within him. After Momozigo departs to settle affairs with the authorities, Musosai's exertions catch up with him and he spends a moment on his knees. Finding his feet, he reveals to you his other purpose for coming to Eorzea: to hunt down a Hingan fugitive named Kogarashi. For now, however, he bids you strike the matter from your mind, and sets out to join Momozigo at the Knot in Gridania.

*Having returned the embezzled money and offered a heartfelt apology, Momozigo has been let off the hook. With that, you may resume your quest to right wrongs, and your little party sets off on its way to snowswept Ishgard.
Vorsaile Heuloix: He was wanted here in Gridania for embezzlement. 'Twas no large amount of coin, to be sure, but a crime is a crime, and so we took him into custody on sight.
Vorsaile Heuloix: However, that custody didn't last long, for the fellow up and fled when our backs were turned. He was last seen heading into the North Shroud, towards Proud Creek—Ixal-held territory.
Vorsaile Heuloix: We're presently deliberating whether to dispatch a search party, but in light of the risks, I fear that none will be forthcoming. If this Momozigo is your friend, perhaps you might consider searching for him yourselves.
===Look for Momozigo===
-cutscene start
Momozigo: Hilarious, isn't it? Here I am on a heroic quest to punish criminals with you, but all this time I was a criminal myself.
Momozigo: I was organizing a concert at the amphitheatre, you see, but the songstress bailed last minute. At that time, I had a huge debt hanging over my head and no way of paying it off.
Momozigo: So I ran off with the money I'd collected from advance ticket sales. I knew it was wrong, but I did it anyway. I'm no better than the crooks we've gone after. Will you punish me like you punished them?
Musosai: To betray the people's trust and steal from them is a despicable act. Such evil cannot be suffered!
Musosai: There. The evil in you is excised.
Musosai: You have committed a crime, 'tis true, but so too have you dedicated yourself to fighting it. From this moment forth, do you swear to be a changed man and fight always for justice?
Momozigo: I swear, I swear! I'll never do bad things ever again! I may not be able to wield a katana, but I'll fight with you nonetheless!
Musosai: You've not spent all of your recent earnings, I trust? You would do well to return the money you took and beg forgiveness.
Musosai: If you apologize from the heart, I see no reason why the aggrieved would not forgive you your transgressions. So go and make amends, and let us continue our quest. We cannot well succeed without you.
Momozigo: Th-Thank you, Musosai, [Forename]! I'll go and repay the money and apologize this instant!
Musosai: Hahaha. If Momozigo aspires to evil, he has much and more work to do. As it stands, he has reformed himself and will make no more mischief.
Musosai: <huff> That a little jaunt through the forest should tax me so... There is no overcoming old age.
Musosai: Yet here I am, come to the other side of the world in the twilight of my years. I journeyed here to find a worthy new pupil, and find {{alternatives|f=her|m=him}} I did. But if truth be told, I have one more objective.
Musosai: That is, to track down and punish a fugitive from Hingashi, a disgraced samurai known as Kogarashi.
Musosai: Mark my words, his is the face of true evil. And it is my solemn charge to strike him down.
Musosai: I had the chance to do so before...but I failed. His strength far surpasses mine own. I could not defeat him.
Vorsaile Heuloix: My thanks for settling the matter, and in more ways than one. Momozigo has repaid in full the money he took and expressed his remorse. The complainants are satisfied and have chosen to put this business behind them. Your friend is free to go.
-optional end
Momozigo: Hehe, all is forgiven, and all it took was a bit of money! I can come and go through Gridania as I please again!
Musosai: All debts are settled, then. That is well. Let us move on, to wherever the wind should blow.
Musosai: And the wind blows, 'twould seem, to snowcapped mountains. Momozigo, pray lead us there.
This is one of the more difficult job quest battles in the game. It is recommended to have a full set of [[Augmented Ironworks Armor]] or better instead of using the starter Samurai gear, along with bringing a few HP restoring potions (e.g., {{item icon|Max-Potion}}) as a precaution.

*Speak with [[Musosai]] in [[Gridania]].

==Journal==
*Musosai is looking for you among the Drowning Wench crowd.

*In the course of an inadvertent brush with the law, Musosai has learned that a serial killer has been terrorizing Limsa Lominsa. What is more, the murderer's weapon of choice appears to be a katana, meaning you may be dealing with a fellow samurai. At Momozigo's suggestion, you turn your steps towards Hawkers' Alley, there to ask the locals about the criminal.

*The shopkeepers on Hawkers' Alley inform you that the victims have thus far been a traveler, a regular patron, and a Qiqirn. There appears to be no connection between them, at least on the surface. With your information combined with his, perhaps Musosai will be able to glean a new lead.

*Musosai deducts that the killer targets defenseless individuals on the pier, in the black of night. He proposes luring the criminal out with a trap, and Momozigo reluctantly accepts his role as the bait. With that settled, your companions set off for Fisherman's Bottom, where they will set the trap.

*The killer shows as anticipated, but is spooked by Momozigo's ear-piercing shriek and runs off before you are able to act. All is not in vain, however, for Musosai recognizes the blade the criminal brandished. It would seem the suspect is a Lalafellin merchant who harbors a fetish for Far Eastern blades. Momozigo mentions Gegeruju, the master of Costa del Sol, though he is not entirely convinced of his guilt. For want of another lead, however, Musosai decides to confront the man at his resort.

*Laughing off your accusations, Gegeruju gives you the name of one Gurumi Borlumi, a rival merchant who is obsessed with all things Far Eastern and has a katana collection besides. Based on what you are told, it seems beyond doubt that this is the killer you seek. To help you infiltrate the man's ship, which lies at anchor off the coast, Gegeruju furnishes you with an invitation to a banquet along with a disguise for Momozigo. With this, you should be able to have Gurumi Borlumi's retainer ferry you to his master's ship.

*The invitation and disguise work like a charm, and you are shown to Gurumi Borlumi's ship, all decked out in a gaudy caricature of the Far East. When Musosai confronts the man about the killings, he readily owns up to them, his eyes glinting with a sick pleasure. He unleashes his cavalcade of guards upon you, from false shinobi to his pet Yanxian beast to finally his chief bodyguard, a samurai pretender named Ostyrgrein. Between you and Musosai, you overcome all of Gurumi Borlumi's men, whereupon he promptly turns tail and abandons ship. Musosai sets off in pursuit, with you not far behind.

*You catch Gurumi Borlumi as he reaches the pier at Costa del Sol, where he learns to his shock that he had been facing a legendary swordsman all this time. Nonetheless, he is unwilling to admit defeat, and placing undue faith in his katana, turns it upon Musosai. Deeming the man beyond redemption, your master summarily puts an end to him. But no sooner does the old man declare your work done than he falls to his knees for his recent exertions. Regaining his feet, he assures you all is well and bids Momozigo lead the way to the next stage of your quest: the forest nation of Gridania.

*You arrive in Gridania and join your companions at the Carline Canopy. While Musosai seems to enjoy being in the forest nation, Momozigo is evidently uncomfortable and excuses himself to go and make inquiries. Until such time as a new evil is identified, you resolve to further hone your skills as a samurai.
**※The next samurai quest will be available from Musosai upon reaching level 56.
Musosai: [Forename], your katana has come to sit well at your hip. 'Tis plain your experience excising evil has matured you as a samurai.
Musosai: I have had an eventful time in this salt-kissed city. In the course of seeking evil, I came under the suspicion of the local peacekeepers, the Mellow Packets.
Musosai: A serial killer has been terrorizing these parts, 'twould seem, whose weapon of choice is an uncommonly sharp blade—one not unlike ours. And so I found myself confronted and questioned.
Musosai: Thanks to Momozigo's testimony, however, the pall of suspicion was quickly lifted. Not only that, but we were even permitted to examine the victims' wounds. There can be no doubt: they were inflicted by a katana.
Musosai: The killer may well be a samurai, yet a true samurai does not take life without just cause. Murder is heinous in its own right; committing it with our noble weapon compounds the crime. Such evil cannot be suffered!
Momozigo: So there you have it, we're going after a serial killer. I must say, I'm morbidly excited. Right, let's begin by talking to people in Hawkers' Alley.
Musosai: Hmmm, what do the victims have in common?
Momozigo: Can't say I blame the Yellow Jackets for marking us out. I mean, every ilm of Musosai screams “Look at meeeeee!”
-optional end

Swozblaet: The serial killings? Oh, don't get me started. We all of us here have been on edge. One of the victims was a regular of mine—Navigator rest his soul—and I pray that the culprit is caught soon.

Baensyng: The recent murders? Gruesome business, that, an' it seems no one's safe neither. Why, even a traveler got 'imself sliced up, the unlucky sod. What sort o' sick bastard'd do a thing like that?
Kyokyoroon: Killer makes Qiqirn dead! Makes Kyokyoroon afraid! Afraidfully afraid! Kyokyoroon shake! Shaky wake all night! Brrr!

===Report to Musosai===
Musosai: A patron, a traveler, and a Quick Earn... The victims do not seem to have anything in common.
Musosai: However, the circumstances of their deaths are strikingly similar. They all vanished in the vicinity of the docks before later turning up as corpses.
Musosai: The killer, it seems to me, targets those who happen to pass along the landing.
Momozigo: It's completely random, then? What a frightening thought... But now that we know this, what do we do next?
Musosai: We set a trap—lure the killer out by walking around the area in question in the black of night. When he emerges from the shadows, we apprehend him.
Momozigo: Ah, a solid plan! So, who's the lucky one who gets to be the bait?
Momozigo: Wait, what!? Wh-Why me!?
Musosai: Though the victims have naught in common, it must be noted that none of them were armed. In other words, the killer preyed on the defenseless.
Musosai: With our katana at our hips, [Forename] and I shan't make enticing bait. Conversely, were we to forgo our weapons, we would be ill equipped to subdue the villain. And so it falls to you.
Musosai: Take heart, my friend. Both of us shall be close on hand, ready to pounce ere you may come to harm. Now then, let us go to the docks.

===Join Musosai===
-optional start
Momozigo: Twelve above, please keep me safe. Please keep me safe.
-optional end
Musosai: It is time. Let us set the trap.
-cutscene start
Momozigo: AIEEEEEE! IT'S HIM!
Musosai: That blade...
Musosai: By the kami, Momozigo, that scream was loud enough to wake the dead. Small wonder the villain fled with such haste.
Momozigo: It wasn't intentional...
Musosai: What's done is done. Besides, our mission was not entirely without fruit. The killer's blade—it is known to me. Some while ago, a wealthy merchant of this land came to Kugane, a port of Hingashi. The man had a fetish for blades, and proceeded to buy up the finest he could find.
Musosai: I chanced to inspect the wares at one of the many swordsmiths this merchant visited, and noted a unique katana marked for delivery to his ship—the selfsame katana the killer wields. Furthermore, according to the shopkeeper, the merchant was a Laugh a Bell.
Momozigo: A wealthy Lalafellin merchant, you say? Well, in this area there's Gegeruju, whom I once entertained with a dance troupe. But for all his vices, he didn't strike me as a serial killing sort.
Musosai: Be that as it may, this is our sole lead for now. Where do we find this man?
Momozigo: At his resort in Costa del Sol, most like. But I'm doubtful he's the one we're after.
-cutscene end

===Speak with Gegeruju in Costa del Sol===
-optional start
Musosai: No need to mince words. Let us pierce right to the heart of the matter.
Momozigo: Gegeruju's hardly a paragon of righteousness, but if he's guilty of anything, it's of being a lecher, not a murderer.
-optional end
> If the player has completed the quest {{i|In the Company of Heroes}}
Gegeruju: <slurp> Who dares disturb my slumber? ...Oho! If it isn't the resourceful and...''supremely forgiving'' adventurer!
Gegeruju: I see you've brought company today, and of the Far Eastern persuasion besides. How very exotic. But come, what is it you wish of me?
> If the player has not completed the quest {{i|In the Company of Heroes}}
Gegeruju: <slurp> Who dares disturb my slumber? ...Well, what a peculiar party you are, you with your Far Eastern companion. What is it you wish of me?
---
Gegeruju: ...Truly now! Yours truly, a suspect in the serial killings! But of course it is a mistake, and no mistake about it. However, I do have an inkling as to who the culprit might be.
Gegeruju: Gurumi Borlumi—he is your man. He made his fortune in trade, and indulges in extreme excesses—which, coming from me, is saying something. But most relevant to your investigation is the fact that he is obsessed with all things Far Eastern and owns an extensive collection of katana.
Gegeruju: Why, just the other day at a social gathering, he was bragging on about one such weapon as though it was his firstborn. When he said that he wanted to feel what it's like to cut a man down, we all had a good chuckle, assuming he was speaking in jest. The man did always strike me as touched, but to think that he would actually go and do the deed...
Musosai: To kill simply to satisfy his own twisted urges... This is no man, but a fiend in a man's skin.
Musosai: Master Gegeruju, we were wrong to suspect you, and humbly beg your forgiveness. Will you tell us where to find this depraved creature?
Gegeruju: On his ship, where he lives. It's at anchor nearby for now, but I should warn you that he recently mentioned wanting a change of scenery.
Momozigo: Ack, a ship? It's going to be tough to sneak aboard, but if we miss this chance, who knows when there'll be another?
Gegeruju: Hohoho! Thank your lucky stars, for it just so happens I've received an invitation from Gurumi Borlumi to attend a banquet aboard his—and I quote—“vessel of myriad pleasures.”
> If the player has completed the quest {{i|In the Company of Heroes}}
Gegeruju: You may have it—a small token of my remorse to you, my dear adventurer. Show it to the man's retainer at the pier, and you will be shown to his ship.
> If the player has not completed the quest {{i|In the Company of Heroes}}
Gegeruju: You may have it—I had no intention of attending, at any rate. Show it to the man's retainer at the pier, and you will be shown to his ship.
---
Gegeruju: And you, showmaster—I will lend you my garb. Disguised as yours truly, none shall raise an eyebrow were you to have “bodyguards” in your company. And with that, I bid you success. Gurumi Borlumi is a troublesome business rival, and I shan't shed a tear at his demise.
Musosai: We are grateful. Without further ado, then, let us assume our roles and head to the pier.
Momozigo: Why do I have a terrible feeling about this?

===Hand the invitation to Gurumi Borlumi's retainer===
-optional start
Musosai: A breathtaking view. It reminds me of the Ruby Sea. Of home.
Momozigo: Hohoho! 'Tis a fine day for a banquet aboard a ship! A fine day indeed! (...Well? Was that convincing?)
Gegeruju: Present the invitation to Gurumi Borlumi's retainer at the pier, and you will be shown to the ship. I shall be praying for your success and my rival's demise.
-optional end
Gurumi Borlumi's Retainer: Master Gegeruju and company, you do us great honor. The invitation, if I may?

''The player hands over the {{i|Banquet Invitation}}.''

Gurumi Borlumi's Retainer: All appears in order. Thank you kindly. If you would care to step aboard, we shall cast off presently.
-cutscene start
Ingratiating Guest: Your dedication to your passion is beyond impressive, my lord! Would that we all had your fine taste!
Gurumi Borlumi: Come now, we've scarcely scratched the surface. Save some wonderment for my prized katana.
Gurumi Borlumi: Ah, Master Gegeruju, always a pleasure. I say, are those samurai I see beside you?
Gurumi Borlumi: A commendable first effort, my lord. But they pale in comparison to my katana collection.
Musosai: You would flaunt the blades you used to cut down innocents? Twisted fiend, your reign of terror ends here.
Gurumi Borlumi: You are not Gegeruju, are you? And yet I would swear we've met.
Momozigo: Damn right we've met! I'm the would-be prey who screamed his lungs out!
Gurumi Borlumi: Ah, yes, from the other night. Heh heh heh... You see, 'tis well and good to admire a blade upon a stand, but its true place is in one's hand. This I discovered to my sheerest ecstasy.
Musosai: The law is too good for the likes of you. You shall face the selfsame end you visited upon innocents.
Gurumi Borlumi: Not only do you sneak uninvited into a private gathering; you make violent threats against an upstanding citizen? It seems I have no choice but to summon the guards. Now, let us step above, and pray put on a good show—I have a reputation as a host to uphold.
Gurumi Borlumi: Ostyrgrein, ''koi''! Time to work for your keep!
Musosai: That is no way to hold a katana. You are no true samurai.
Ostyrgrein: Bah, like there's a difference. A samurai's jus' a swordsman what fights with a katana, an' this champion gladiator's gonna show you how it's done.
Musosai: You heard that, [Forename]? The difference is lost on this man. We must free him from his ignorance.
Gurumi Borlumi: Hold it. I've a mind to savor this. We shall save you for last. Let us warm the deck with an opening act.
Gurumi Borlumi: For now, we enjoy the spectacle.
Musosai: I, too, shall observe. You alone are more than enough for these false shinobi.
Gurumi Borlumi: Have at {{alternatives|f=her|m=him}}! ''Kirisuteeei''!
-cutscene end

===Defeat the sham shinobi===
Musosai: This is but part of your training. Finish them swiftly, my pupil.
Gurumi Borlumi: Come! Let us warm the deck...with blood!
Musosai: When outnumbered, use Oka or Mangetsu to smite multiple foes in one fell swoop.
Gurumi Borlumi: You're tough, I'll give you that! But how will you fare against my pet?
Gurumi Borlumi: Feeding time, my pretty!
Musosai: Hmph, 'tis a fiend who resorts to using a fiend. The beast is yours, [Forename].
Musosai: The false shinobi, you may leave to me.

===Defeat the vanara===
Musosai: That beast is a lumbering thing. You can easily anticipate and evade its attacks.
Musosai: Yes, that's the way!
Gurumi Borlumi: Nooo! My beautiful pet!
Gurumi Borlumi: No more games! Time to unleash...the samurai!
Adjunct Ostyrgrein: Right then, let's take some heads.
Musosai: Finally, the last act of this gaudy circus.

===Defeat Ostyrgrein===
Musosai: This man is but a pretender who knows not how to hold a blade.
Musosai: I should be surprised were he to offer you any trouble.
Adjunct Ostyrgrein: Shut your mouth, you old bastard!
Adjunct Ostyrgrein: I'll show you a samurai trick or two!
Musosai: Such a clumsy stroke. Seeing it fair makes mine eyes bleed.
Musosai: You'd do better to try and cut down a fly.
Adjunct Ostyrgrein: Try this!
Musosai: Slinging mud!? You have no honor!
Adjunct Ostyrgrein: Shite on your honor! Winning's all that matters!
Adjunct Ostyrgrein: B-Bugger this! Time to use the secret weapon!
Musosai: You were no samurai, but neither are you a gladiator.<br>Nay, you are naught but a craven.
Adjunct Ostyrgrein: Th-This can't be right...
Gurumi Borlumi: Nooo! It's not supposed to play out like this! Th-The banquet is over!
Musosai: Come, [Forename]! We give chase!

-cutscene start
Musosai: That is as far as you go.
Gurumi Borlumi: Wh-Who are you?
Musosai: I am Musosai, and beside me is my pupil, [Forename]. We seek out the wicked and exact justice upon them.
Gurumi Borlumi: M-Musosai!? The legendary swordsman whose tales I heard in Kugane!? Small wonder my guards didn't stand a chance!
Gurumi Borlumi: B-But even legends bleed, and with my transcendent katana, I am more than a match for you!
Gurumi Borlumi: Come! This blade shall drink deep of your lifeblood!
Musosai: Unrepentant fiend. You belong not in gaol, but in hell. Say your prayers to whatever kami you keep.
Musosai: You needn't befoul your blade with scum such as this.
Musosai: We have accomplished our goal of excising evil, and for that I am glad. But this outing leaves much to be desired for your training.
Musosai: For you see, a samurai learns best when he faces a fellow samurai of equal skill. Alas, they are hard to come by in this land, and a pretender such as that whom you faced is no substitute.
Momozigo: Whew, we did it! Pats on the back for everyone, especially me! Now, what's this about you being a legend back at home?
Musosai: 'Tis ancient history. Whatever I may have been in the past, now I am but as you see me: an old man long past his prime.
Gegeruju: Well done, my friends! You have rid us of a depraved monster. His was a brutal end, but it was no more than he deserved. Justice well served indeed!
Gegeruju: Rest assured this mess will be cleaned up. As they say, what happens in del Sol stays in del Sol.
Musosai: We are in your debt, my lord.
Musosai: Our work here is done; one fewer evil afflicts...afflicts...
Momozigo: Musosai! Are you alright!?
Musosai: Worry not, I shall be fine... My endurance is not as it once was, is all.
Musosai: Come, my friends. Let us move on, to wherever the wind should blow.
Musosai: And the wind blows, 'twould seem, to the forest. Momozigo, pray lead on.
Momozigo: The forest? Y-You mean...Gridania? Oh, dear... Er, I mean, of course! Right this way!
-cutscene end

===Speak with Musosai in Gridania===
Momozigo: Ahhh, Gridania! Always lovely to be here! Ahahaha...ha.
-optional end
Musosai: A nation at one with the forest... Simply being here is salve for the soul. Yet even amidst such seeming serenity, untold wickedness may lurk. Until such time as we find it, pray continue applying yourself to our art.
==Walkthrough==

==Steps==
*Collect intelligence in Hawker's Alley.

*Report to [[Musosai]].

*Join [[Musosai]].

*Speak with [[Gegeruju]] in Costa del Sol.

*Hand the invitation to [[Gurumi Borlumi|Gurumi Borlumi's]] retainer.

*Speak with [[Musosai]] in [[Gridania]].

==Journal==

Momozigo: So, er, the old man bought a fish, carved it up with his katana, then devoured it raw. He offered me some. I declined.
-optional end

-quest accepted

===Gather intelligence in Hawkers' Alley===
-optional start
Musosai: Hmmm, what do the victims have in common?
Momozigo: Can't say I blame the Yellow Jackets for marking us out. I mean, every ilm of Musosai screams “Look at meeeeee!”
-optional end

Swozblaet: The serial killings? Oh, don't get me started. We all of us here have been on edge. One of the victims was a regular of mine—Navigator rest his soul—and I pray that the culprit is caught soon.
-optional start
Swozblaet: The serial killings have all of us here on edge. One of the victims was a regular of mine—Navigator rest his soul—and I pray that the culprit is caught soon.
-optional end

Baensyng: The recent murders? Gruesome business, that, an' it seems no one's safe neither. Why, even a traveler got 'imself sliced up, the unlucky sod. What sort o' sick bastard'd do a thing like that?
-optional start

Kyokyoroon: Killer makes Qiqirn dead! Makes Kyokyoroon afraid! Afraidfully afraid! Kyokyoroon shake! Shaky wake all night! Brrr!

===Report to Musosai===

===Join Musosai===

> If the player has completed the quest {{i|In the Company of Heroes}}
> If the player has not completed the quest {{i|In the Company of Heroes}}
> If the player has completed the quest {{i|In the Company of Heroes}}
Gegeruju: You may have it—a small token of my remorse to you, my dear adventurer. Show it to the man's retainer at the pier, and you will be shown to his ship.
> If the player has not completed the quest {{i|In the Company of Heroes}}

===Hand the invitation to Gurumi Borlumi's retainer===

===Defeat the sham shinobi===

===Defeat the vanara===

===Defeat Ostyrgrein===

===Speak with Musosai in Gridania===
-optional start
Gegeruju: Gurumi Borlumi was a monster, and he received no more a punishment than he deserved. Justice well served indeed!
Momozigo: R-Right, then! I-I'll go about making inquiries at once!
==Journal==
*Time is running out to rescue D'zentsa, and Widargelt is uncharacteristically unsettled.

*Though you have not found a way to open your final chakra, you must confront H'raha Tia now, or D'zentsa's life will be forfeit. Widargelt bids you join him and O'tchakha near Little Ala Mhigo in southern Thanalan ahead of the rescue mission.

*Desperate to save her friend, O'tchakha bids you fight her, that you might open your final chakra. However, Widargelt will not hear of it. He harbors the hope that, in joining hands, you may yet defeat H'raha Tia. Prepare yourself for the confrontation, and tell Widargelt when you are ready to proceed to the southern ruins, where D'zentsa has been taken.

*At the ruins, Widargelt attempts to convince H'raha Tia that fighting one another is not the way. Alas, the master of the sect of shadow will not be swayed from his beliefs, and he sets upon you with fists and feet flying. In the midst of battle, your final chakra opens, allowing you to do battle with H'raha Tia on even footing. And with D'zentsa's belated help, you succeed in overcoming him and his pupils. As the dust settles, speak with Widargelt south of Little Ala Mhigo to know his mind on the battle's outcome.

*The pursuit of power was once thought to be the sole route to greatness among the disciples of the Fist of Rhalgr. But by your shining example, this old preconception has been shattered, giving way to alternate paths. Together with D'zentsa and O'tchakha, Widargelt will strive to rebuild the order as it once was, reuniting the sects of light and shadow. As the paragon for a new generation of monks, see to it that you ever exercise your powers for the good of the realm.
**※The next monk quest will be available from Erik once you have met the following requirements:
**※ You must have completed the main scenario quest “[[The Far Edge of Fate]].”
===Accepting the quest===

Widargelt: Time is running out. D'zentsa's life will soon be forfeit. We must act now.
Widargelt: Alas, we did not find it. A way to open the seventh chakra. But we must act nonetheless.
Widargelt: O'tchakha has gone to Little Ala Mhigo. She fears for her friend. Let us join her.

===Speak with O'tchakha near Little Ala Mhigo===
-optional start
Widargelt: We must rescue D'zentsa. But how...?
-optional end
O'tchakha: Zentsa is still alive, but I fear she'll not remain so much longer. But moments ago, she was taken to the ruins to the south.
O'tchakha: You will have already heard, but I couldn't find a bloodless way to open chakra of an opposing aspect.
O'tchakha: Thus far, you have opened thirteen chakra—the most of us three. But one more, and you could face H'raha Tia as an equal...
O'tchakha: Fight me, [Forename], and make the final chakra yours!
Question: How will you respond?
> Very well. Let's get this over with.
Widargelt: No, {{alternatives|f=sister|m=brother}}! If O'tchakha dies, victory would have no meaning!
Widargelt: We need power. This is true. But at what cost? You must remember what is truly important. Or you will commit a grave mistake. As I once did.
> No, this isn't the way.
Widargelt: Listen to [Forename]. {{alternatives|f=She|m=He}} speaks the truth. It is not the way.
Widargelt: We need power. This is true. But at what cost? If you die, D'zentsa would grieve. Victory would have no meaning.
---
Widargelt: Remember my words. All our chakra may not be open. But we have each other. Together, we can defeat H'raha Tia. We can rescue D'zentsa.
Widargelt: The disciples of our sects once fought side by side. Let us do so again. As we did in the days of old.
O'tchakha: Thank you, Widargelt. I shall stand with you.
Widargelt: First, I will try to persuade H'raha Tia. Convince him to see reason. But if my words fail, be ready to fight.

===Speak with Widargelt===
-optional start
O'tchakha: Zentsa was taken to the ruins to the south. We must hurry before it's too late!
-optional end
Widargelt: We go to confront H'raha Tia. Are you ready, {{alternatives|f=sister|m=brother}}?

-cutscene start
Widargelt: Hear me, H'raha Tia! We come, but not to accept your demands!
Widargelt: Nay, we would remind you of the past! Of the true nature of our order!
Widargelt: Our two sects once fought beside each other. Not against. Together, we can achieve much. Let us join hands, brother. And rebuild the Fist of Rhalgr!
H'raha Tia: Hmph, cowards like you bring shame upon our order. Plainly, it is ''you'' who needs to be reminded of our true nature.
H'raha Tia: The arduous training to hone mind and body, the blood we spill and shed—all of it is for no other purpose but to honor the Destroyer.
H'raha Tia: We pay Him great tribute by dueling to the death. And in return, He grants us great power: the power of all fourteen chakra.
H'raha Tia: By consorting with the royal house, the disciples of light lost sight of their true nature. For this, Rhalgr visited destruction upon them.
H'raha Tia: But in His wisdom, you were spared, that your existence—feeble though it is—might serve to raise us higher. Upon your battered bodies, the Fist of Rhalgr shall be restored to its former glory!
Widargelt: You are wrong. The sect of light was undone, but not as you say. We misused our power. We turned it upon our own people. For ''this'', we were cast down.
Widargelt: Now ''you'' misuse your power. You turn it upon your own comrades. It is the same. It will end the same. You will destroy yourselves as we did.
Widargelt: Do not make the same mistake, brother. If we are to survive, we must find another way. A way to prosper together. Or we shall perish in vain. All of us.
Widargelt: Those who have power must choose. ''You'' must choose. With it, will you pave the way for life? Or will you destroy it? Surely, the choice is clear.
H'raha Tia: I grow weary of your blathering. You have already declared your unwillingness to meet my demands. There is naught more to discuss.
H'raha Tia: Take the adventurer alive—{{alternatives|f=she|m=he}} will yet prove useful to us. Kill the rest!
-cutscene end

===Hold off H'raha Tia until D'zentsa is free===
Widargelt the Watcher: Hold off H'raha Tia, [Forename]! We will unbind D'zentsa!
O'tchakha of the Endless Day: Hold on, Zentsa!
D'zentsa of the Endless Night: Tchakha!? And you two as well!?
H'raha Tia Fistborn: You think you can defeat me? Fools!
H'raha Tia Fistborn: Impressive. Mayhap a different approach is in order.
Widargelt the Watcher: Beware, [Forename]! I sense a torrent of energy!
H'raha Tia Fistborn: It seems your awakening is at hand. How curious.
O'tchakha of the Endless Day: Their ranks have thinned out! Now's our chance!

-cutscene start
O'tchakha: Zentsa! Are you all right!?
D'zentsa: You came... Thank you...
H'raha Tia: So you have turned against me, the both of you. Have you forgotten who it was that saved you all those years ago?
H'raha Tia: But I pride myself on being a forgiving man. In lieu of an apology, I shall accept your life force.
H'raha Tia: Ahahaha! Your power is mine! Be glad, my wayward pupils, that you were useful to me at the end!
H'raha Tia: Magnificent! My body is as a raging furnace! It shall be as child's play to unleash my ultimate technique!
H'raha Tia: It ends here!
H'raha Tia: What!?
Widargelt: Can it be? Your final chakra has opened?
D'zentsa: That's the only explanation! Which means that [Forename]'s now an equal with H'raha Tia!
O'tchakha: If we fight together, we may yet triumph!
H'raha Tia: Triumph, you say? I do not recall having raised such a foolish child.
H'raha Tia: [Forename] is as a suckling babe with {{alternatives|f=her|m=his}} new chakra, while my entire being is fairly ablaze with the life energy of three monks!
H'raha Tia: It matters not how many of you there are! You cannot hope to defeat me!
-cutscene end

===Defeat H'raha Tia===
H'raha Tia Fistborn: Such power! My body can scarcely contain it!
Widargelt the Watcher: Fear not, {{alternatives|f=sister|m=brother}}! You are now his equal!
O'tchakha of the Endless Day: Focus on Master, [Forename]! We'll keep the rest occupied!
D'zentsa of the Endless Night: Past time I made myself useful!
H'raha Tia Fistborn: Play time is over! Prepare yourselves!
Widargelt the Watcher: Something comes! Be careful!
O'tchakha of the Endless Day: Master, please! We need not fight any longer! There is another way!
D'zentsa of the Endless Night: [Forename] opened {{alternatives|f=her|m=his}} final chakra, and {{alternatives|f=she|m=he}} did it without hurting you!
H'raha Tia Fistborn: This changes nothing. Mine is the one true path. It is to exalt Rhalgr that we fight.
H'raha Tia Fistborn: So it ends here...
Widargelt the Watcher: I was not strong enough...
O'tchakha of the Endless Day: Ungh... Please take care of Zentsa...
D'zentsa of the Endless Night: I'm sorry, Tchakha...

===Speak with Widargelt===
-optional start
D'zentsa: Tchakha has told me everything. Thank you, [Forename].
O'tchakha: To be reunited with Zentsa... Words cannot well express my relief.
-optional end
-cutscene start
Widargelt: It is over. Zentsa is safe. Together, we achieved the impossible.
Widargelt: Yet my heart is heavy. I failed to convince H'raha Tia.
Widargelt: Every step I take, blood is spilled. With my power, I know only destruction.
D'zentsa: That's not true, Widargelt. A monk's power can also be used to save, like you saved us.
O'tchakha: We have a favor to ask of you. If you are still intent on rebuilding the Fist of Rhalgr, we would lend you our aid.
D'zentsa: We'd bring whoever's left of our sect. Together, we can restore the order to the way it used to be, with disciples of light and shadow side by side.
D'zentsa: And together, we can think about what power means to us. Thinking about it alone, your mind's liable to take you to a dark place. Better to have comrades around who share your cause, I reckon.
O'tchakha: With H'raha Tia gone, [Forename] is the only soul left who has opened all fourteen chakra. And a soul of gentleness {{alternatives|f=she|m=he}} is.
O'tchakha: {{alternatives|f=She|m=He}} did not seek power for its own sake, yet {{alternatives|f=she|m=he}} has reached the zenith of our art. In so doing, {{alternatives|f=she|m=he}} has shattered our old preconceptions and shown us another path.
O'tchakha: And in opening {{alternatives|f=her|m=his}} final chakra by stopping Master's technique, {{alternatives|f=she|m=he}} has given us hope that there is a way to open ''all'' chakra without bloodshed.
Widargelt: Thank you, D'zentsa, O'tchakha. Together, we will create a new path. And lay a new foundation for our order!
Widargelt: [Forename]. It is to your shining example that we turn.
Widargelt: You are as a star. We look up to it. We strive to reach its heights.
Widargelt: The way may be dark. And it may be filled with hardship. But come what may, we will forge on. Towards your light.
Widargelt: Promise me this, {{alternatives|f=sister|m=brother}}. Ever use your powers for good. And for the realm!
-quest complete
*Speak with Widargelt.
*Speak with Widargelt at [[Revenant's Toll]].

==Journal==
*Widargelt has urgent tidings for you.

*Widargelt informs you that he has received a letter from his former students, D'zentsa and O'tchakha, who bid the two of you come to Dalamud's Talons. Though their agenda is a mystery, Widargelt has questions of his own that he would ask them. Make your way to northern Thanalan and participate in the meeting.

*At the meeting, D'zentsa and O'tchakha explain that there exist two aspects of chakra, one each for the sect of light and the sect of shadow; in order to open a chakra of an aspect not his own, a monk must fight a disciple of the opposing sect. To that end, the two Miqo'te attack you and Widargelt, the battle ending with all four combatants experiencing their chakra opening. Having thus accomplished their task, D'zentsa and O'tchakha take their leave, but not before begging you to give up being a monk. Speak with Widargelt to learn his mind on these revelations.

*Unsurprisingly, Widargelt has no intention of relinquishing his dreams of rebuilding the Fist of Rhalgr. However, if you are to deal with the threat posed by the sect of shadow, you must learn more about the two aspects of chakra. Professor Erik will soon be arriving at Revenant's Toll to share with you his insights on the subject. Make your way back to the settlement and be present for what will surely prove to be a most enlightening experience.

*Professor Erik supplements your knowledge of the history of the Fist of Rhalgr. The order was once formed of two distinct yet united sects─one of light and one of shadow. Alas, the members of the latter were expelled in the wake of a bitter feud over the order's alliance with the royal house of Ala Mhigo. The professor then appends that members of the two sects once faced one another in single combat to open all fourteen chakra. Widargelt cannot understand why the sect of shadow insists on fighting rather than cooperating. In order to find the answer, he declares his intent to confront D'zentsa and O'tchakha once more. In the meantime, focus on mastering the new power that has been unleashed inside you.
**※The next monk quest will be available from Widargelt upon reaching level 56.

{{Dialogue|<nowiki>
===Accepting the quest===
Widargelt: [Forename]! A letter has arrived. It comes from D'zentsa and O'tchakha.
Widargelt: They would speak with us. They bid us come to Dalamud's Talons.
Widargelt: What their agenda is, I know not. But I would ask them questions of my own.
Widargelt: Professor Erik also sends word. He has learned of the sect of shadow. Soon, he will come to share his knowledge. But before I see him, I would see my former pupils.
Widargelt: I wish to believe in them. They are good at heart. Of this I am certain. Come, {{alternatives|f=sister|m=brother}}. We go to Dalamud's Talons.

===Speak with Widargelt south of Dalamud's Talons===
-cutscene start
Widargelt: It has been a while. You two look well.
D'zentsa: Thanks for coming. For what it's worth, we're sorry that we deceived you.
O'tchakha: Know that it is for the benefit of both our sects that we fight.
O'tchakha: The other day, when you fended off our fellow disciples of shadow, a new chakra opened within you, did it not? Yet the sensation was unlike aught you had felt before.
D'zentsa: It's because you opened a chakra belonging to ''our'' aspect—the aspect of shadow. The opposite also applies, of course. Fighting a disciple of your sect allows us to open chakra belonging to the aspect of light.
Widargelt: Aspects of light and shadow? If this is the way of it, then why must we fight? Why can we not cooperate?
D'zentsa: Our master forbids it, I'm afraid. Our ''true'' master, that is.
O'tchakha: If truth be told, we shouldn't even be speaking with you. We are not permitted to exchange words—only blows.
Widargelt: They leave us no choice. Come, {{alternatives|f=sister|m=brother}}! We will give them the exchange they desire!

===Defeat D'zentsa and O'tchakha===
Widargelt the Watcher: Why? Why must we fight?
O'tchakha of the Endless Day: Enough talk. We have no use for your words.
O'tchakha of the Endless Day: We're just limbering up!
Widargelt the Watcher: Our own technique!? Stand clear, Colt!
D'zentsa of the Endless Night: There's more where that came from!
O'tchakha of the Endless Day: N-No... We aren't supposed to lose...
D'zentsa of the Endless Night: Bugger me... They're too strong...
Widargelt the Watcher: Ugh... Forgive me, {{alternatives|f=sister|m=brother}}...
x@???: Steel yourselves for more!
x@???: There's more where that came from!
-optional end
-cutscene start
O'tchakha: <gasp> Ahhh, my chakra has opened... <pant> 'Tis precisely as Master described...
D'zentsa: <pant> Yesss, I feel the power surging through me... But if we're to become stronger—if we're to open any more chakra—we must throw ourselves into far fiercer struggles.
D'zentsa: The kind where lives are on the line.
O'tchakha: So long as you are disciples of light, we will continue to come for you, over and over. It cannot end until one side falls, never to rise again.
D'zentsa: And that's the reason we called you here.
D'zentsa: We ''don't'' want to hurt you.
D'zentsa: So please, give up being a monk. Give up any notion of rebuilding the Fist of Rhalgr. And go somewhere far, far away!
Widargelt: Wait!
-cutscene end

===Speak with Widargelt===
Widargelt: They would have me stop being a monk. Same as telling me to stop breathing.
Widargelt: Many revelations have there been this day. The existence of opposing aspects of chakra. This not the least of all. We must learn more of it.
Widargelt: The professor will soon arrive at Revenant's Toll. Perhaps he can enlighten us.

===Speak with Widargelt at Revenant's Toll===
-optional start
Erik: Strong backs and feeble minds as far as the eye can see... Yes, this is indeed the frontier.
-optional end
Widargelt: Thank you for coming, Professor. The information I requested. Were you able to find it?
Erik: Of course I was, you incurable dolt! Elsewise I wouldn't have bothered to come all the way to this backwater! Now then, I have many demands on my time, so I shall convey my findings to you at once, and in the most concise manner possible. Ahem!
Erik: Now, it is common knowledge that the Fist of Rhalgr rose to the zenith of its power by virtue of royal endorsement. Lesser known is the dispute which broke out over this arrangement between two factions within the Fist—the sect of light and the sect of shadow.
Erik: The head priest of the sect of light believed that an alliance with the royal house of Ala Mhigo was the key to prosperity. However, his counterpart in the sect of shadow disagreed, warning that it would lead to their undoing. History has proven them both right. But I digress.
Erik: Unsurprisingly, the disciples of each sect rallied to their respective leader's side, and the two factions clashed with words and fists both. In the end, the sect of light prevailed, the alliance with the royal house was sealed, and all members of the sect of shadow were banished from the order.
Erik: So, in the past, the two sects both belonged to the Fist of Rhalgr, and their disciples trained beside one another as comrades. And yet, though the techniques they employed were identical, the manner in which they harnessed energy was opposed in nature.<br>It was this difference which gave rise to two aspects of chakra.
Erik: There is a tradition wherein monks from the two schools would meet each other in single combat. In attacking you, I posit that the disciples of shadow are seeking to recreate this tradition.
Erik: This clashing of light and shadow quickened the aether within, causing a chakra of the opposing aspect to open within them. In simple terms for your simple minds, disciples of light fought to open shadow chakra, and disciples of shadow fought to open light chakra.
Erik: And the implications of this? There are not seven, but ''fourteen'' chakra all told. Yes, yes, two sides of the same coin; where there is light, there is shadow, and all that poetic tripe.
Widargelt: One thing I do not understand, Professor. Why can our sects not cooperate? Why must the disciples of shadow attack like common brigands?
Erik: A feud caused the rift between the two sects—who's to say there isn't a feud still? I suspect only a member of the sect of shadow can tell you the truth. But now I must be off. I shall inquire further into the matter in my spare time. If there is aught else, you know where to find me.
Widargelt: We must speak with D'zentsa and O'tchakha again. I will try to track them down. Meanwhile, please continue honing your skills.
==Walkthrough==
Minfilia is in [[The Solar]].

==Steps==
*Wait for the carriage outside [[Revenant's Toll]].
*Speak with [[Minfilia Warde|Minfilia]].
*Speak with [[Minfilia Warde|Minfilia]].

==Journal==
* [[Minfilia Warde|Minfilia]] has never been one to hesitate when it comes to asking others for aid.

* It would seem that Minfilia's claims of progress on the matter of finding a way into [[Iceheart]]'s sanctuary are somewhat premature. After a lengthy discussion with [[Urianger]], the Antecedent has concluded that [[the Scions]] in [[Revenant's Toll]] lack the expertise to develop a solution and must therefore turn to another for assistance─a [[Sharlayan]] colleague who is currently en route to [[Mor Dhona]]. Minfilia invites you to accompany her to the northern gates, where she intends to greet the newcomer's arrival.

* While you and Minfilia converse upon matters deep and profound, a carriage arrives in Revenant's Toll. A tall [[Roegadyn]] woman disembarks from it, whom Minfilia introduces to you as [[Moenbryda]], an accomplished Sharlayan [[scholar]] and an authority on [[aetheryte]] technologies. Now that your new colleague has arrived, it would seem a good time to trouble Minfilia for a plan of action.

* Eager to resolve the situation in [[Snowcloak]], [[Minfilia]] and Moenbryda return to [[the Rising Stones]]. Join them in [[The Solar|the solar]] where you can discuss the matter in private.

* It turns out that Moenbryda's meeting with the other [[Scions]] is less an introduction and more a reunion─a particularly emotional one, in the case of Urianger. Setting her mind to the problem of the missing aetheryte, she quickly devises a solution involving white auracite, a material she has been researching for the purpose of capturing [[Ascian]] souls. By using it to channel a burst of concentrated [[aether]] into the aetheryte by which Iceheart escaped, she believes she can recreate the beacon at the opposite end. If successful, it should theoretically be possible for you to [[teleport]] to it. Should it fail, of course, any such attempt would result in your death─a painless death, to be sure, but a permanent one nonetheless.

==Dialogue==
{{Dialogue|<nowiki>
===Accepting the quest===
'''Minfilia Warde@Minfilia:''' As you may recall, Iceheart used the aetheryte in the depths of Snowcloak to teleport a short distance to the west─most likely to a sanctuary of some description. It is there that we suspect she means to summon Shiva using the crystals she stole from the House Fortemps caravan.
'''Minfilia Warde@Minfilia:''' The heretics believe that they are bringing about the second coming of their patron saint. But if, as we suspect, they mean to hold a summoning ritual of the kind employed by the beast tribes, it seems likely that the result will be something more akin to a primal.
'''Minfilia Warde@Minfilia:''' Suffice it to say, they must be stopped─and stop them we shall. But first, we must surmount the obstacle that Iceheart has placed in our path.
'''Minfilia Warde@Minfilia:''' Ordinarily, it would be a simple matter to tap into the established Aethernet and thereby follow our quarry. However, despite our best efforts, we have been unable to ascertain the position of the aetheryte to which she teleported.
'''Minfilia Warde@Minfilia:''' Our prevailing theory is that she destroyed the second aetheryte upon arrival─a reckless, desperate measure, but also an effective one.
'''Minfilia Warde@Minfilia:''' After discussing the matter at length with Urianger, we have concluded that we lack the expertise to develop a solution.
'''Minfilia Warde@Minfilia:''' ...Which is why we have called upon the aid of one who ''does'' possess such expertise─a colleague of ours who is currently en route to Revenant's Toll from Sharlayan. She should be arriving within the hour, in fact.
'''Minfilia Warde@Minfilia:''' Since you are here, mayhap we could welcome her together. I am certain she would appreciate the gesture. Let us make our way to the northern gates and await her coming.
-quest accepted

-optional start
'''Minfilia Warde@Minfilia:''' What manner of woman is she, I wonder...? We have spoken before via linkpearl, of course, but it is not the same.

'''Yda:''' I can't wait until she gets here! We have ''so'' much to talk about!

'''Papalymo:''' Master Louisoix did think quite highly of her. On the other hand, so does Yda...

'''Thancred:''' The arrival of a newcomer has ever been cause for celebration─doubly so when she's an attractive young lady. A bard could wish for no better audience. Mayhap I shall regale her with the tale of our battle against Leviathan's thralls─how I soared over my opponent's axe and brought him low with my blades...

'''Y'shtola:''' Only those with proven expertise receive the mark─as our newcomer has. Pay no heed to her manner.
-optional end
===Waiting for the carriage outside Revenant's Toll===
'''Moenbryda@???:''' Minfilia, am I right?

'''Minfilia Warde@Minfilia:''' None other. I bid you welcome to Revenant's Toll, and thank you for traveling so far on such short notice.

'''Moenbryda@???:''' Hah! As if I could ever say no to Urianger!

'''Minfilia Warde@Minfilia:''' Moenbryda is an accomplished Sharlayan scholar and an authority on aetheryte technologies.
'''Minfilia Warde@Minfilia:''' She has played an invaluable role in our search for a means to capture Ascian souls.

'''Moenbryda:''' Charmed, I'm sure.
-cutscene end

-optional start
'''Moenbryda:''' For an outpost in an aether-rich wasteland, this place is a good deal livelier than I expected. Just goes to show that you never know until you know.
-optional end

===Speaking with Minfilia===
'''Minfilia Warde@Minfilia:''' Let us return to the Rising Stones at once, then. We have much to discuss.

-optional start
'''Moenbryda:''' Is that Tupsimati on the wall back there? I'm amazed you managed to find all the pieces after...well...you know.
-optional end

===Speaking with Minfilia===
-voiced cutscene start
'''Yda:''' Moen! Gods, it's been ''ages''!

'''Moenbryda:''' Oh, longer, sister!

'''Y'shtola:''' A joyous reunion indeed.

'''Yda:''' Well, of course it is! Moen and I are like twin sisters!

'''Papalymo:''' ...Save in appearance and aptitude.

'''Minfilia Warde@Minfilia:''' Everyone, if I could have your attention!
'''Minfilia Warde@Minfilia:''' We have with us an esteemed guest who is come from Sharlayan to assist us.
'''Minfilia Warde@Minfilia:''' I bid Moenbryda join us here that she might share with us her extensive knowledge of aetherytes.
'''Minfilia Warde@Minfilia:''' Also, as many of you are already aware, she has been overseeing our research into white auracite─a sample of which she has been good enough to bring with her.

'''Moenbryda:''' Well, I had to come, didn't I? You'd have to be bloody ''daft'' to turn your nose up at a chance like this. Where better to conduct my final tests than a land so steeped in aether you can taste it!?

'''Urianger:''' 'Tis plain the passage of the years hath done little to dampen thy youthful spirits...
'''Urianger:''' ...And nothing at all to reform thy youthful manner.

'''Moenbryda:''' Urianger! Where in the hells've you been hiding?

'''Urianger:''' Un...unhand me.

'''Moenbryda:''' I come all this way, and ''that's'' what you have to say to me!?
'''Moenbryda:''' I much preferred when you were pleading with me to drop everything and hurry to your side. What was it you said? “None save thee can satisfy this need─”

'''Thancred:''' Go on...

'''Urianger:''' Th-Thine artless attempts to misrepresent mine all-too-innocent motives do thee little credit!
'''Urianger:''' Mine intent, as well thou knowest, was but to impress upon thee the gravity of the circumstance. Lest thou doubt, a deiform entity shall shortly be summoned, save if thou, and no other, grantest my compeers thine aid.

'''Moenbryda:''' You still haven't found it, then? Your missing aetheryte?

'''Minfilia Warde@Minfilia:''' We have not, no.
'''Minfilia Warde@Minfilia:''' We know that Iceheart teleported to an aetheryte not far from the first, yet even after careful analysis, we could not locate the second beacon.
'''Minfilia Warde@Minfilia:''' We now suspect that the heretics destroyed the second aetheryte to impede our pursuit.
'''Minfilia Warde@Minfilia:''' Our allies continue to scour Snowcloak for Iceheart's sanctuary, but we have no guarantee that they will find it. Yet it must be found, for even now Iceheart prepares to call upon Saint Shiva.

'''Moenbryda:''' I'm sorry but...if the aetheryte's been destroyed, then that's that.
'''Moenbryda:''' Although... You're absolutely sure she used the first aetheryte, are you? She didn't just use teleportation magicks?

'''Minfilia Warde@Minfilia:''' One of our own bore witness to her escape. I can say with absolute certainty that Iceheart used the aetheryte.

'''Moenbryda:''' In that case, there might be a way─so long as the aetherial current is still flowing.

'''Minfilia Warde@Minfilia:''' Truly? How?

'''Moenbryda:''' We use the current to recreate the beacon.
'''Moenbryda:''' As you know, aetherytes are a bit like lighthouses. We use them to reconstitute our physical forms when crossing the aetherial sea. Without them, we'd lose all sense of direction and our essence would dissipate.
'''Moenbryda:''' However, we don't rely solely on these beacons. There are currents of aether which flow between them─currents which help guide us to our destination.
'''Moenbryda:''' Now, these currents will gradually dwindle away to nothing if an aetheryte is destroyed. But if even a sluggish flow remains, we could theoretically use it to direct a surge of concentrated aether towards the void left by the beacon and thereby fill it up again.

'''Thancred:''' Like opening the floodgates to fill a dry riverbed. Though, correct me if I'm wrong, but would we not need a veritable reservoir of aether?

'''Papalymo:''' In concert, we ''might'' manage to channel a sufficient volume, yet that is not my chief concern.
'''Papalymo:''' To direct the flow of so great a volume of aether with the requisite precision would be a nigh-impossible task in itself.

'''Y'shtola:''' I barely succeeded in facilitating travel to an unattuned beacon. That which you describe sounds considerably more difficult.

'''Moenbryda:''' And dangerous! Every person who has attempted to teleport in this fashion has died in the process. They, however, did not have white auracite at their disposal!
'''Moenbryda:''' I can use it to channel all the aether you can give me into the aetheryte. However, white auracite cannot retain aether for an extended period of time, so we would need to infuse it immediately beforehand.
'''Moenbryda:''' Just so you know, I'd confidently give this plan better than even odds of success. And if the worst comes to the worst, your people won't suffer.

'''Minfilia Warde@Minfilia:''' Though it risk the lives of our best and brightest, we have not the time to seek other options.
'''Minfilia Warde@Minfilia:''' If the aetherial current still flows, we shall carry out Moenbryda's plan.

'''Moenbryda:''' That's the spirit! Let's roll the dice!
