Beast Tribe Quests are daily quests that require the players to perform tasks dictated by various Beast Tribes. Beast Tribe Quests for Sylphs and Amalj'aa were added in patch 2.1. Quests for the Kobolds and Sahagin were added in patch 2.2. Quests for the Ixali were added in patch 2.35. Players will not only earn experience, gil, items, Tomestones and ventures for completing these quests, they will also earn Reputation points. By increasing your reputation, you will gain access to the Beastmen tribe vendor which sells unique mounts, minions, furnishings and other items.

*Beast Tribe Quests don't unlock until you reach level 41 of the Main Scenario Quests, even if your character is over level 41. Once unlocked via the Main Scenario Quests the Beast Tribe Quests become dependent on character level and not Main Scenario Quest level.

*Players can perform 12 daily quests per day. At neutral reputation rank (Rank 1) players can only accept 3 quests from any individual faction.

*Each Quest gives you a certain amount of Reputation points, depending on the rank of the quest, starting with 5 points for the initial three except for Ixali and Vanu Vanu. See Reputation for more on ranking up

*The quests available to you on a given day are random, from a selection of up to 10 quests, each of which also has some randomness to them in terms of objective locations and such. In general, completing a set of 3 quests from a faction will usually take around 15 minutes, but this can be up or down by an additional 5-10 minutes depending on which quests you end up with. Some quests will require an item from participating in specific FATEs in the general area, and waiting for these can take a long time. However, you can participate in them without the quest and will still be rewarded with the item, making it possible to save them up for later.
Some dailies also involve gathering, but don't require more than level 1 in the gathering class.

Ayuki2: Created page with "Macro On occasion I run across discussion about macros, often it's someone asking for help on how to create a macro, and then someone else chiding th..."

Macro
On occasion I run across discussion about macros, often it's someone asking for help on how to create a macro, and then someone else chiding them about using macros because it's bad for their DPS. While it's true that improperly used macros can lead to sub-optimal play at high levels, I think it's important to understand how macros work because a properly used macro can be a great boon to how you play the game.

At its most fundamental, a macro is just some lines of text that are being fed into the game's chat box. You can do a lot of things with this, but the most basic is probably a simple chat macro, like this:

:/p Nice to meet you!
:/p This is my first time here, please let me know if there are mechanics that I should know about!

Properly and respectfully used, chat macros can be a handy and fun tool, allowing you to tell people about mechanics, automate greetings, or send cute pictures of moogles saying "Good job, kupo!"
But what about macros that do stuff? Well the chat box also accepts a variety of commands that will do things. For example, you've probably used emotes, such as /dance or /sit. Anything that starts with a forward slash "/" will issue a command to the game As an example, let's take a look at this simple macro:

:/macroicon "Benediction"
:/ac "Benediction"
:/wait 300
:/echo Benediction available for use again! <se.10>

This macro consists of four separate commands:

*/macroicon: This sets the macro icon to the indicated ability. You can use this to set any available icon to your macro, even ones for abilities you don't know or things that you can't normally use, like mount abilities. Generally it's best to stick with an icon for the ability you're actually using, though.
*/ac: This is the generic macro command to perform an action. In this case, the action being performed is Benediction, the full-heal from White Mage.
*/wait: Wait is a handy too. It does exactly what it says - it waits before performing the next command. In this case, it adds a 300 second (5 minute) delay. Note that you can only have one macro running at a time, though, so if you run another macro during this time period, it will cancel the wait command and you won't get the notification.
*/echo: This one is a chat command, it sends a chat message. Echo is a private chat channel; only you can see it. The <se.10> is a notification sound.

So in summary, what this macro does is use Benediction, wait 5 minutes, and then tell you that benediction is available again.

Simple enough, but what if you want to do something more complicated? Well, here's the part where it becomes important to understand the details of how macros actually process.

Unless you are using wait commands in your macros, macro lines are sent to the text box one after another, in rapid succession. Just imagine you're mashing the enter key as fast as you can and it's sending one line each time to get a rough idea of what's happening. This means that it can sometimes take a moment to complete the full macro. Let me show you an example macro that I've used for a long time that helps to illustrate the details of how macros work:

:/macroicon "Fight or Flight"
:/ac "Fast Blade"
:/ac "Shield Lob"
:/ac "Mercy Stroke"
:/ac "Fight or Flight"
:/ac "Bloodbath"

Experienced players are probably looking at this and have warning sirens going off in their head, and they're right to do so. This is a bad macro, and I feel bad for using it, but it is very helpful in understanding how priority works in macros. Let's walk through it, shall we?

The purpose of this macro is to combine a bunch of commonly used skills into a single button, thus easing the load of buttons I need to push when tanking. It gives me an "all-in-one" combo starter button, essentially a "I want to build hate" button to do my tanky thing. It combines several buffs with a ranged attack, an execute, and a combo starter, and it works. Usually. Sometimes.

Remember how I mentioned that macros are sent to the text box one line at a time in rapid succession? This means that you can have multiple skills going out in a quick blast, and the and it will use the first available one. Here's the blow-by-blow of what happens:

*First, the macro tries to use Fast Blade, the combo starter for all of the paladin's combos. If the enemy is in range, and the Global Cooldown isn't rolling, this is what's used.
*Second, the macro tries to use Shield Lob. If you're out of range for Fast Blade, but within Shield Lob range, and the Global Cooldown isn't rolling, this is what will be used
*Third, it tries to use Mercy Stroke. This is an off-global cooldown ability, but it requires that an enemy's health be below 20% in order for it to activate. If the Global Cooldown is rolling, you're in melee range, AND the enemy is under the HP threshold, this will activate.
*Fourth, if none of the above conditions for the above abilities have been met (that is, the Global cooldown is rolling so that Fast Blade and Shield Lob don't activate, AND the enemy is not under 20% HP OR there is some other reason the above skills can't activate, such as having no target selected) Fight or Flight will activate.
*Finally, if the criteria for Fight or Flight has been met, AND Fight or Flight is on cooldown, Bloodbath will activate.

Complicated? Sure sounds like it. In practice it's far simpler. Let's run through how I use it on a typical pull.

I haven't pulled yet, and am running toward a pack of enemies. I target one of the pack, and am in range of Shield Lob, but not Fast Blade. I press my macro. What happens? Shield lob.

I immediately press the macro again, before the Global Cooldown finishes cycling. What happens? Fight or Flight.

The global cooldown has finished rolling, and the mob is now in melee range. I press the macro again. What happens? Fast Blade.

I immediately press the macro again, before the Global Cooldown finishes rolling. What happens? Bloodbath.

I forgot to flash, so one of the mobs decides to go run over and eat the healer. I quickly target that mob and press the macro. What happens? Shield Lob.

"Well this just seems super convenient, why did you say this is a bad macro?" you might be saying to yourself. And you'd be right! It is super convenient! However, there are some major drawbacks to doing this, and you have to understand how the macro system works in order to understand why.

First off, let me explain skill queuing.

Skill queuing is a function of the global cooldown system that allows you to use one skill right after another without any real delay. The way it works is that you press the next skill button in your rotation partway through the global cooldown for the previous one. For example, a paladin's basic aggro combo is Fast Blade > Savage Blade > Rage of Halone. When queuing up the attacks, you would first hit Fast Blade, then about a little over halfway through the global cooldown for Fast Blade you can hit Savage Blade, and it will execute that skill as soon as the cooldown period finishes. This is crucial for DPS classes to maximize the damage they're doing, as it allows a very smooth flow from one skill to the next. Why is this important?

Macros are incompatible with skill queuing.

When you press the button for a skill normally on your hotbar, it hands that to the game's system to execute right after the current skill completes. With a macro, however, it just dumps those text commands into your chat box right when you press the button. This means that even if you're 100% efficient about pressing the buttons at the right time to have it execute the skill with minimal delay, there will still be more delay than if you had queued up the skill. In practice, it's usually a lot more than just a little tiny delay, and over a long fight this downtime where you're doing nothing can really add up.

The other reason is lag. When you execute a macro, it sends all those text commands in rapid succession to the game. Sometimes, though, one of them won't be able to execute, which can cause problems. A common issue that I run into with the macro I've listed above is that I execute it too soon before the GCD has rolled, and instead of getting Fast Blade, I Shield Lob at melee range. This screws up my combo, and eats a ton of TP. This is a possible situation you can run into with any macro, so it's best to be prepared for it.

So what macros are good to use?

If you understand the limitations of the macro system, it's time to put together some useful ones. What makes a good macro? Macros are good for things where you won't be trying to compete with a global cooldown, and situations where you're ok with the outcome of the macro being not set in stone. For example, here's my absolute favorite macro, one that I use all the time:

:/macroicon "Raise"
:/ac "Raise" <t>
:/ac "Raise" <2>
:/ac "Raise" <3>
:/ac "Raise" <4>
:/ac "Raise" <5>
:/ac "Raise" <6>
:/ac "Raise" <7>
:/ac "Raise" <8>

This macro will raise my target, or if they're not dead or I have an invalid target selected, it goes down the party list and raises the first available KO'd party member. It's great for when I want to raise someone, but there's only one dead person, or it's not important which party member gets raised. 24-man raids love it! Since it's not something I'll be fighting with the GCD on (you pretty much never Raise multiple people in rapid succession in a heated fight... hopefully) and it's not crucial that it target a specific person, it works out just fine.

As a note, you can use a similar one with Aetherial Manipulation. It will let you zip over to your target, or if you don't have anyone selected, it'll just take you to the next available party member (reorder your party list to set the order that you'd like to have it go in).

Here's another one that I use regularly:

:/ac "Hook"
:/ac "Mooch"
:/ac "Cast"

This one's a little less obvious, but if you read through the lines it's pretty simple. First, it tries to hook the fish. If it can't, because I'm not fishing, it tries to mooch. If it can't mooch, because I don't have a moochable fish caught, it casts the line with my current bait. It's a one-button lazy fishing solution.

If you do beast tribe quests regularly, you'll probably really appreciate this one, it's a real time saver:

:/sundropdance motion
:/s Uhm Ala has sent me with a message: There are free kupo nuts Amid the Flowers

That macro will meet the objectives for quests for four separate beast tribes, making it a one-button solution to dealing with birds/bugs/moogles. It contains the text strings for completion of three separate quests, and has the Sundrop Dance for all those Vanu Vanu quests.

There are plenty more ways to make good macros out of your existing actions, and many more ways to make bad ones. The important part is understanding the limitations of the macro system and how they apply to the macros you create.
Commands You Should Know
While there are dozens of commands that can be used in macros (You can find them here), these are the ones that are commonly used with emotes.

*/emote (/em) - Posts emote text in the local chat channel. This line of text will always begin with the name of your character.

*/say (/s) - Posts a message in the local chat channel. There are similar commands for other chat channels, such as /party (/p) and /shout (/sh).

*/action (/ac) - Uses a specified action. If the action’s name is more than one word, it must be contained within quotation marks.

*/wait - Inserts a pause between commands. The length of the pause can range between 1 and 60 seconds in increments of 0.5 seconds. If a number is not indicated, it will default to 1 second.

*<t> - A placeholder command that can be used within a line to display the name of your current target.

*/facetarget (/ft) - turns your character to face the selected target. This command is rarely needed, as most emotes automatically turn your character towards your target. This can be useful if you start the macro with a facial expression.

Standard Animated Emotes
There are 51 standard animated emotes: /bow, /welcome, /goodbye, /wave, /kneel, /salute, /chuckle, /laugh, /joy, /happy, /rally, /soothe, /blush, /comfort, /psych, /pray, /blowkiss, /dance, /yes, /thumbsup, /clap, /congratulate, /cheer, /no, /deny, /cry, /furious, /fume, /panic, /upset, /disappointed, /sulk, /angry, /huh, /shocked, /shrug, /stagger, /surprised, /doubt, /grovel, /pose, /beckon, /think, /examineself, /doze, /point, /poke, /stretch, /lookout, /airquotes, and /me.

As you’ve learned through quests, every emote has a command that can be typed to activate it. However, these commands are accompanied by the default emote text. For example:

:/thumbsup

Results in:

You agree wholeheartedly.

Making a simple custom emote requires a two-line macro; one line to play the animation without the default text, and a second line that displays your new custom text:

:/thumbsup motion
:/em gives a thumbs up.

Adding “motion” next to the command plays the animation and any accompanied sound without the default This results in:

John Smith gives a thumbs up.

Inserting <t> into the line will add the name of the subject you’re currently targeting:

:/thumbsup motion
:/me gives <t> a thumbs up.

Allowing it to do this:

John Smith gives Mary Kate a thumbs up.

Unlike the default emotes, it’s not currently possible to create custom emotes that display alternate text if no target is selected or use the correct gender pronouns for the target. Without a target, <t> will insert an extra empty space in place of a name.
There are many other placeholder commands that are great for combat macros but have limited use in emotes. The example below uses < tt >, which displays the name of whatever my target is currently targeting:

:/em cheers on as <t> battles < tt >!
:/cheer motion

Resulting in:
John Smith cheers on as Mary Kate battles Little Ladybug!
Each macro can hold up to 15 lines. This allows you to sequence multiple animations using the /wait command:

:/think motion
:/em considers it for a moment…
:/wait 3
:/huh motion
:/s Nope. Got nothin’.

You MUST use /wait to separate animations or else the first will overwrite any animation that comes after it. Using /wait to start another animation before the last has finished will immediately begin the next one. This will cut off any sound the emote plays, but can be useful for complex animation sequences or making silly

Facial Expression Emotes
Facial expressions are emotes that animate the face only, and can be used individually or stacked on top of other animations. There are 13 different facial expressions: /straightface (the default expression), /smile, /grin, /smirk, /taunt, /shuteyes, /sad, /scared, /amazed, /ouch, /annoyed, /alert, and /worried.

You can completely change the feeling of an animation by stacking it with a facial expression. For example, the /welcome emotion as played by my female Hyur is a cheerful greeting where she opens her arms. But by stacking the /alert expression on top of welcome, my character looks like she’s angrily demanding an explanation from someone. Likewise, combining the /shocked animation with /smile makes her look lovestruck.

Facial expressions last 5 seconds and, like all other animations, will not activate unless they’re separated from the previous animation by a wait. For example:

:/em is deeply ashamed by what Square Enix considers to be suitable armor.
:/examineself motion
:/wait
:/scared motion
:/wait 2
:/blush motion

There’s no way to end the expression animation once it’s been activated other than replacing it with another one. Adding /straightface to the last line will restore your default expression at the end of a macro. Alternatively, you can add an expression at the end of an animation to make it look more natural, such as putting /smile at the end of /laugh so your serious Hyur Man doesn’t look so sarcastic.
Here’s an example of a complex animation sequence that uses multiple animations and facial expressions:

:/facetarget
:/alert motion
:/wait
:/em criticizes <t>.
:/welcome motion
:/wait 2
:/doubt motion
:/wait 2
:/upset motion
:/wait
:/worried motion
:/wait 3.5
:/straightface motion

Sitting
The /sit emote allows you to toggle between sitting down and standing up. Certain objects, such as chairs, benches, and beds, allow you to sit on them if you use the emote while stood next to them. Otherwise, you will sit on the ground. Sitting can be stacked with certain animations and all of the facial expressions.

The chair sit animation can be combined with: /welcome, /goodbye, /wave, /salute, /chuckle and /laugh (shared animation), /joy and /happy (shared animation), /soothe, /comfort, /yes, /thumbsup, /clap, /congratulate, /cheer, /no, /deny, /cry, /furious and /angry (shared animation), /upset and /disappointed (shared animation), /huh, /shocked, /shrug, /surprised, /think, /examineself, /doze, /point, /poke, /stretch, /lookout, /airquotes, and /me.

The ground sit animation can be combined with: /goodbye and /wave (shared animation), /chuckle and /laugh (shared animation), /yes and /thumbsup (shared animation), /clap and /congratulate (shared animation), /no and /deny (shared animation), /furious and /angry (shared animation), /upset and /disappointed (shared animation), /huh, /think, /doze, and /lookout.

As always, you must put a /wait between /sit and any other animation. This example will work with both the chair sit and ground sit:

:/sit
:/wait
:/annoyed motion
:/em sits down and waits impatiently.
:/wait
:/think motion

/sit will last indefinitely and prevents you from performing certain actions; it can be canceled by toggling it off or by jumping.

Other Emotes
There are two emotes that need to be unlocked through gameplay before you can use them: /gcsalute and /imperialsalute. The first becomes available when you join a Grand Company and plays the salute animation of the company you’re enlisted in. It’s not possible to play the salute of the other two companies. /imperialsalute is unlocked through the main story quest and allows you to perform the Garlean Army salute.

/visor acts more like a toggle command than an emote, allowing you to change the appearance of certain pieces of headgear. There are very few hats that have multiple states.

While not an actual emote, /battlemode (/bm) will toggle your battle stance on and off. Facial expressions work with the stance, while other emote animations will temporarily sheath your weapons and overwrite the stance before returning to it.

Combining Emotes with Actions/Functional Emotes
Class and job actions can be used in custom emotes, but only if conditions allow for the skill to be used. Not only must you be the right class, level, and have enough MP/TP to use the action, you must be able to use the action on the correct target. Like /battlemode, facial expressions can be used with actions, allowing for subtle customizations to your combat macros.

Emote animations won’t override actions and won’t play at all unless /wait is used to start the animation after the action ends. This is the macro I use when my Lalafell arcanist summons Topaz Carbuncle:

:/macroicon “Summon II”
:/ac “Summon II” <me>
:/wait 7
:/joy motion

You can also use the /gearset command to make “transformation sequences” when you change class or job. Unfortunately you can’t change gearsets in the middle of an animation, but you can automatically time it to activate buffs and stances as soon as they become available:

:/bm off
:/wait
:/gearset change 2
:/wait
:/welcome motion
:/wait 1.5
:/psych motion
:/wait
:/ac “Fists of Fire” <me>

Remember, custom emotes can be cute and funny, but you’ll annoy the hell out of everyone around you if you use them excessively in combat. There are a few times where using sound and movement to draw attention to yourself can be practical:

:/bm
:/p I’m rushing <t> in 10 seconds, get ready!
:/wait 7
:/p Three!
:/wait
:/p Two!
:/wait
:/p One!
:/wait
:/p GO!

If you really need to get a message across, you can use a custom emote to add movement, sound, marks above your head, auto-translated text, AND change your online status:

:/away on
:/mk “Cross” <me>
:/p {Will be right back.}
:/sit motion
:/wait
:/doze motion

:/away off
:/mk “Cross” <me>
:/p {I’m back!}
:/sit motion
:/wait
:/stretch motion

To use the example above, you must press tab while typing in the macro window and navigate the auto-translate menu to insert the text in brackets. Auto-translate text cannot be typed manually or copy-pasted.

Other Notes & Useful Info
*If you can’t fit all of your custom emote buttons on your screen, you can create a macro button using /macros to open up the macro menu.

*In 2.1, /doze will display unique animations when used with a bed.

*Pet macros will also be added to 2.1, allowing you to use animations to pretend you’re a Pokémon master.

*For taking screenshots: The Scroll Lock key can be used to toggle the UI on and off, while Print Screen takes the screenshot.

:/thumbsup motion

:/away on
:/mk “Cross” <me>
:/p {Will be right back.}
:/sit motion
:/wait
:/doze motion

:/away off
:/mk “Cross” <me>
:/p {I’m back!}
:/sit motion

List of Commands
This section is largely incomplete and is in need of detailing.
Text Commands
Entering a text command starting with the / (forward slash) key allows players to change equipment, use abilities, perform emotes and various other actions. Additional directions such as subcommands and placeholders can be added to commands for even greater customization, such as specifying targets, toggling functions on and off, and so on. The additional directions should follow the main command, separated by a space.
